Target Test – Joel Selwood?

Written by Motts on February 22 2012

Time to get back to what we do best: analysis. Joel Selwood was PA’s first picked this year and with good reason. He’s capable of scoring big numbers and with a number of retirements at Geelong there’s a big chance he’ll score even more points than he did in 2011.

There’s also his delicious price – $604,600. That makes him cheaper than many of his contemporaries including Judd, Mitchell, Swan, even Rockliff.

But, and there’s always a but, he’s a captain now. Will he turn out like Steve Waugh who thrived with the extra responsibility associated with leading a team? Or will he be more like that sooky la la Kim Hughes?

So, what are you doing with Joel?

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

  1. No contest, there’s always half a dozen who are ‘first picked’ in any team, and he’s one of mine. Of course he will thrive on the captaincy, and I always feel a skipper is less inclined to be rested or miss a game with niggles, so you get extra durability. In summary – he’s concreted in.

  2. He is in and out of my team like a Joel-in-a-box so far, but I am currently leaning towards S.Thompson because of Adelaides easier draw, and the other prems in my mids are Swan, Ablett and Mitchell.If he dominates some more in the Nab he may yet be selected over Thommo.

  5. If you take away his first game where he got knockout in the 1st quarter, he’d avg 119 (including finals), which should make him priced at around $645k. I think at his current price he’s a monty and will be the No.1 player this year taking home Chas 😉

  6. my midfield prems look like:

    GAJ, Murphy, Priddis, Selwood…

    how ever i have 80k left over, does swan deserve a spot in their over any of them? I struggle to put him in just cause i see him losing value in the first half then coming strong in the second making him a serious upgrade candidate.

  10. Selwood was an easy choice this year at that price.

    Hayes is firming ahead of Barlow also. Could be worthy of a poll of the SCT Universe if the powers that be are reading.

    First time doing this so here goes…

    Hayes = Thumbs Up
    Barlow = Thumbs Down
    Both = Comment

  11. Do you think callan ward is a viable option in the midfield – he may get a lot of ball from the rookies that panick and just want to get rid of it to the closet senior player? lets us know what you think?

  13. Ahrm… Who?

    What does everyone thing Joel Selwood as a POD. He could be a game changer based on almost 70% of people suggesting he is a lock in. Hell, I need to subscribe to the herald sun to get the inside info.

    Sarcasm is like napalm in the morning!
