Team Reveal – Motts

Written by Schwarzwalder on March 15 2017

Here’s the team as it stands after the JLT series. I know Chips and Hutta have gone into great depth justifying their selections and omissions.

I won’t be doing that but I’m happy to answer questions about it. Fire away!

  1. Very Solid Motts only concern is Brodie don’t think he’s in Gold Coast’s best 22, could use extra cash to upgrade Swallow to JOM and get Barrett in for Brodie

  2. That’s a lot of players missing in round 9 Motts!

Might want to look at adjusting those rookies so that you aren’t forced to cash in your cows prematurely just to avoid a doughnut or two in round 9.

Otherwise, love it. Bit different, with just enough mid-price madness to send you loopy but not to the asylum.

    1. Cheers Duff! Seems to be a lot of focus on the rooks. They’re the blokes most likely to change depending on if they’re named or not in R1.

  3. Solid enough team Motts , but not sold on Mills and Swallow. I think your rookies might need some adjusting as well.
Also surprised no Jarrod Pickett or Parfitt in the Mids to open up mid – fwd link.

  4. Ive been leaning towards gawn /sandy for the a while but have also changed to a Goldy / Sandy combo recently.
Goldy has been the most reliable ruck till his knee injury last year. He has recently said he has gotten over the niggles and at his best I dont think there is much difference between him and Gawn.

      1. I’m in on the Goldy / Sandi combo. Seeing a lot of teams running cheap in the rucks which could pay off, but the odds of this happening are slim IMO.

  5. Interested in the Marchbank pick, how does he fit into your long term strategy – does he fall into the expensive rookie category and you’re planning on an upgrade, or do you think he’s capable of averaging above 80 (as he has over the JLT) and being bench cover for finals? Cant say I saw any of him at GWS (because you know, f*ck that side), what’s his role at Carlton?

    1. Marchbank = expensive rook that I’m expecting to play a lot early on. I believe he’ll be a half back sweeper for the Blues but I haven’t spoken to my “inside man” at the club this year so don’t know for sure.

    1. Love the guy but he’s surrounded by so much point-sucking talent these days that I can’t justify his selection.

  6. Familiar looking forward line for me. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’d suggest swapping out Bowes, Brodie, and Marchbank for cheaper rookies and then use the funds to turn Mills and Cripps into premiums. If you can’t bring yourself to lose Marchbank and Cripps, I’d still use Brodie and Bowes money to upgrade Mills.

Any reason you jumped off the Zac Williams train?

Looks like a very Motts team, so probably good to go!

      1. In that case I would instead say “turn Mills and Cripps into established premiums,” or use whatever term for then you feel describes players like Hannebury, JPK, J Selwood, and Treloar and distinguishes them from players like Cripps and the Bont who are still on the way up. Whatever you call them, players like Cripps and the Bont are not currently in the same group as Hannebury, JPK, J Selwood, and Treloar.

        1. I have no idea about Mills, but Cripps and Bontempelli will definitely be in that group by the end of the year.

  7. Nice looking team, but I’m more interested in the Round 1 Big Move, a la the great Barlow-Zorko swap of 2016. Any hints??

    2. Love that you remember my Masterstroke from last year. Watch this space after the first couple of games of R1….

  8. I currently have Marchbank in DEF, think he’ll deliver the same kind of consistent value as Thurlow. I had Cripps, but ‘back’ injuries are one of the worst “problems” to have pre-season, which has put me off him. He is a contested beast and hjave great scoring potential; so a flare up of that made me trade him out…unless you know something we don’t Motts?
