Team Reveal – Schwarzwalder

Written by Schwarzwalder on March 7 2020

G’day Coaches!

Happy that I can chime in with my shambles of a team before the season starts.  I should probably start by saying that I really haven’t had much spare time to properly research every line.  Have been busy in my personal life which has resulted in limited time for SuperCoach.

Judging by past results…..who knows? …..Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise?  So without further ado……………….here is Schwarzwalder@SCT Version 2020……..

I won’t go into great lengths here with team description.  I’ll be trying my hardest to start with the ‘ol Guns ‘N Rookies set-up but, as you know, all will be dependant on Rd1 selections.

Lloyd and Docherty are the only two backmen capable of a 110+ average and I’m happy to start with both of them.

Don’t see too many changes to the midfield elite.  Tim Kelly is the one that I can see cracking the Top 10 MIDs.  West Coast have a good run up until their bye with all the ‘tough’ games being played at home (Geelong, Richmond…….) so I’m banking on a quick start and plenty of pts from T.Kelly.

Gawn and Grundy both played game time in the Marsh Series and came through fine……that’s enough for me. If you simply have to look elsewhere, then Scott Lycett looks like he’ll continue on with his good form from 2019.

After plenty of moving and shuffling, Whitfield and Dusty are the only two FWDs that I can cement into the Top8 for the year.  I like the defensive options better which is why I’ve thrown in Dawson after his massive finish to 2019.  Hoping that it pays off and that we have plenty of rookies to choose from in Rd1….

Any input is greatly appreciated!

Good luck in 2020, Coaches!

  1. Glad to see someone else with the Kelly/Kelly combo. You seem a bit light on guns, only 11 keepers (12 if Dawson steps up).

  2. Hope you are well Schwarz, you’ve been missed!! Like the structure of the team and the Dawson pick, we’re all sweating on rookies onviously.

  3. I like it Schwarz! I think that some of us get a bit too wrapped up in the pre-season hype and overthink quite a few things, so maybe this approach is beneficial! Almost all of it looks good, I just have a few little personal nitpicks.

I’m not a huge fan of Telly personally, I just don’t see how he improves going into an even more stacked midfield and an average of 100-105 is not good enough for a premo mid.

I also am not a fan of Lloyd to start, I think after his poor finish to last year and Dawson getting more of a role he’s overpriced to start. I think he’ll still finish in the top 6-8 defenders, but I doubt he’ll be worth paying nearly 600k for.

Personally, I’d downgrade Lloyd to one of Daniel/Laird/Ryan/Sicily, and use the money banked to upgrade Telly to an uber premo, like Oliver, Dunkley, Danger etc.

But other than that, really good looking team.

  4. I don’t dislike this at despite going against a bit of my thinking, I couldn’t start Lloyd or Dawson I think they cap each others scores (with Mills & Rampe as well)also I think it’s a bit over stated that Dawson went “massive” last season,

I’m also big on Ryan & Sicily to be the highest averaging defenders but I’d assume i’m very much in the minority there, I like the simplicity of Whitfield Martin & Premium F3 as I think I’ve gone a bit too weird in the FWD line.

Geelong supporter so maybe i’m bitter but Kelly is going to struggle to be a real premo in the mids with his DE%, think Shiel, but maybe the service from Nic Nat and co counters that a bit?

  5. No.
At least 6 of those rookies wont play R1 (Flanders, worell, McHenry,Rivers,Greaves, Starcevich) and Anderson, Brander, Green are highly unlikely. Not many other rookies available who will play.
You wont like this and all the little bah lambs will thumbs down it but, You will have to drop at least one of your prems and take some risks if you want to have 29 players for round 1.

Obviously the team will change from now to round 1, these team reveals are to give people a general idea of how the wonderful writers here at SCT are planning on tackling the 2020 season, and giving them a platform to justify some of their premo/midpricer choices. Hell, I made my team reveal last year 1 week out from round 1 and I made about 6 changes from then to the ball being bounced. Don’t focus on the rookie selections and instead focus on the structure, premos picked etc., because that’s the stuff that we can worry about before teams are named.

You will have to drop at least one of your prems and take some risks if you want to have 29 players for round 1. (possibly true and a relevant comment….though the focus on the rookies isn’t needed as even us lambs know we have to wait until last minute to see who coaches name – the high priced rooks currently in Schwarz team gives him flex…)

    3. You’re finger on the pulse of which rookies will play is way off. Don’t speak anymore until round one teams.

  6. Looks fine Schwarzy, I think we just need to have a plan B ready in case no rookies are named for Rd 1.

  7. Thank you to all the Coaches who took the time to share their advice!
I’ve been made aware of the expected rookie shortage and will be planning a “Team B” just in case of an emergency. Thanks again!
