Tech League Criteria Reveal

Written by JimmyDee on February 11 2020

In my previous post I mentioned that the Tech Team this year will loosely follow the theme of some of the most topical and relevant events and news of the summer, namely the bushfire crisis and supporting the rebuild.

I say loosely because in the vein of almost all the sporting aid themes to help the bushfire appeal, individual sportspeople, associations and teams are finding ways to support and donate to the cause.  Charity matches in many sports have sprung up variously and have been a massive success with the public and administrators alike. Associations have banded together to collectively lead the way in delivering their own piece of the package and one of those is our own ‘beloved’ AFL.

The AFL’s contribution will be to manage and conduct and/or resurrect a somewhat tenuous state of origin concept match to raise funds, a fabulous idea and apparently well received by most of the associations, clubs and players. I also suspect the public will support it, if not for the fiercest of loyalty to either the Vics or Allstars, but for the bushfire aid concept and wanting to be a part of the rescue package in their own little way.
eg Crows Vs Power Bushfire Big Bash in front of 35,000 raising more than
a mill for the affected.

Now I’m not suggesting for a moment that our dedicated SCT community can use this forum to raise funds, but I am suggesting we can show our philosophical allegiance to the cause by playing a Tech Team in Supercoach entirely in the mould of the AFL’s Vics v the rest, with us being the rest! So, an All Stars side for the Tech Team both for variety and a serious challenge, and maybe even to throw in a tiny protest against the Vic-centricity of the AFL assuming only one team is worthy of its own identity, and all the rest are a melting pot of talent and jumper colours.

In order to take that melting pot and put a team on the park, I’m kind of mirroring the AFL and setting a selection criteria. That is, at least three players from each footy state and at least one each from ACT and overseas. Now that may sound simple enough, but in order for that team to be competitive in a Supercoach sense, it’s quite a juggle. The good news is that there’s some top premos as keepers, good rookies to generate that essential cash build, but it then necessarily needs some risky midpricers to make up the numbers. To help out, I’ll try and leave a generous bank for immediate upgrades after round one should you so desire, but let’s not forget, we are not likely to win the overall, but merely to be furthest ahead after round 23 to take home the silverware (and cash), as well as bragging rights, and all from the same starting point . Tactics will play a huge part!!

Team reveal will follow in separate posts (more carrots), possibly by position, maybe by price or even possibly by state. So, go ahead and generate some discussion and if a trend occurs in the posts on the gradual reveal, or whether the trend is to have a one off reveal of the full team, I’ll honour your thoughts and reveal as per the trendiest in the first instance. There may even be the odd advance poll for Tech Leaguers for that little extra personal input whilst still fielding the same starting team. Hopefully, by the end of the Marsh series, we get the feel for those in the selection frame for round one and don’t end up with too many bench warmers.

Jump in and get your random tech team registered and get ready to rumble – my beautiful wife just can’t wait, or so I tell her!!

Wasn’t going to run a second team this year but sounds like a lot of fun starting out of the blocks then going in your own direction.
