So having had a quick scan (who am I kidding – I spent HOURS looking at player values yesterday) I’ve put a quick list together of the blokes I think are bargains this year. Of course, with some of them there’s going to be the old risk/reward thing that you’ll need to balance, but here’s what I’ve got so far:
Josh Drummond (back) – $401,000
Andy Otten (back) – $185,100
Jed Adcock (back) – $333,000
Ricky Petterd (forward/mid) – $367,100
Liam Anthony (mid) – $362,900
Brock McLean (mid) – $311,700
Drew Petrie (ruck/forward) – $216,000
Shaun Higgins (mid/forward) – $379,200
Patrick Veszpremi (forward) – $214,600
There are other fellas that I expect to have a breakout season that I haven’t included on this list because based on their efforts last year their prices are pretty fair. Blokes like Pat Dangerfield, Chris Yarran (great doco on the ABC last night about him – 3 Boys Dreaming), and Stephen Hill. I also haven’t included any rookies.
Who do you think is undervalued this year? Who do you think will have a breakout year? Who will you be avoiding like the plague?

Is Brock McLean there in hope as a Carlton supporter Motts that he will do great things…
I find as a player for Supercoach purposes he has always been a great let down he seems to get spoken up every year.
I to think Jed Adcock is a nice price after missing most of last year.
Chance Bateman (MID) I am as a Hawthorn supporter expecting better from him this year at $285100 might worth looking at.
Chris Knights (FWD) as well seems like a good price, nit sure where he is at injury wise though.

Jolly .. his season average for last year is misleading. Look at how his score inflated after Mick switched Fraser for Brown in the ruck. He’s pretty underpriced for a ruckmen who floats forward and kicks a couple even 2nd week.
Fair chance he’ll be in my side.

J Selwood’s stats towards the end of last year were jaw-dropping. Putting GAJ in a new strip means Joel will be shouldering more of the load. I don’t think you could go wrong with him.
Then again, I don’t think you could go wrong with Judd, Swallow or Boyd either. I just can’t think of such compelling reasons to get them.

I’ve been doing some deep thinking about the Gazza quandry and about GC in particular.
There is tones of money to be made in the GC this year, with so many no names playing for them, they have to be cash cows. But IMO, I won’t be selecting to the forwards. It takes quite a while to get a forward line functioning, and if they’re relying on nathaN or Joshy, then they really are buggered. However, they have got a decent bunch in the backline, and considering that’s where the ball is going to be all year, makes sense to load up on them. Just a matter of watching the early hitouts to see which ones are going to play.
But then, that’s where the big questions come in. How many players from one team can you select and expect to still be able to win over their bye rounds? It’s all a bit confusing, and I need to look into the rules once more, as 3 round played won’t be in official SC comp (3, 9 + ? (correct?)). Assuming that each team will have at least 1 match not in the 3 rounds above, then you could run a bit thin of players.
Ha, but wait, there’s more… because now it again builds the case for selecting many GC players. Because GC have a 1st round bye, you could effectively have 11 GC players in your side (if you were so willing), as you SHOULD be able to select a side where you know every player will play in round 1, barring late withdrawal, and all GC players to sit on the bench.
What are people’s thoughts?
Mottsy or Big Sexy – maybe worth a full article.

Not 100% on what you’ve said, Mr Jolie, but here’s the rule which I think you’re referencing:
“Leagues head-to-head competition begins in Round 1 – you’ll play over 15 rounds, with the 5 rounds where three AFL clubs have a bye (Round 4, 5, 6, 16 and 19) also being ‘bye’ rounds in your leagues (no head-to-head match ups). Your team continues to play and score as usual in the general comp over those 5 rounds. Finals series follow during Rounds 21-24.”
But its definitely worth a full post. Once we’ve digested everything we’ll whack something up.

OK, I’ve had a look at the byes, and the SC league byes (SCLB). If you were tossing up between players from 2 teams, it may help to know the following:
Teams that have 2 byes during the SCLB:
Brisbane, Fremantle, Melbourne, Sydney.
Teams with 0 byes during SCLB:
Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Gold Coast*, North Melbourne, Port Adelaide.
*GC have bye 1st round – see earlier posts
What does this mean? If you, like me, are more interested in winning your league than overall ranking then choose a player from the above teams with 2 byes in SCLB, and don’t choose players from 0 byes in SCLB as this may leave you short of on field players.
Hope this makes sense to all. Motts, still would like an article from yourself, as you could say it much more eloquently
than I.

*URGENT* Brad/Mott – Feb.2 @ 10:37pm RE: AFL & SC Bye Rounds
- Brad this is the only thing I am worried about at the moment, and the main reason why I can’t finalize my side until I understand it. I know exactly what your trying to say, but I can’t make sense of it either….
Im focused on my league – So would like to know what angle your coming from about Choosing players from clubs involved in SC Byes…?
Mott – I reckon this would make a cranker read.
Also: Not sure there is too much in the way of price discounts advertised due to the extra 3 players. So will be having a real hard look at Rookies/Injuries in the NAB Cup. But wanted to know what you thought about blokes like Kerr, Fev, C.Bolton, N.Krakouer, Bateman etc.
Obviously all have thier own issues, but some of these prices are ridiculous and could surely be worth a punt?

Agreed Lace Out & Take It On the Chest.
It would appear you could have unlimited number of players from the teams with the 2 byes in SCLB, but for all other teams you would look at having no more than 4 players from one team, otherwise, you could be handing over an easy win to your opponent. The 6 teams mentioned above even more so, maybe max of 2, and both quality either. Imagine having Swan and Pendles out for 2 rounds through the season, at the same time, and not due to injury or suspension!
Like or Dislike:

So what your saying is PICK players from sides that DO have the byes in the SC BYE Rnds? This is what I’ve been thinking also.
Obviously because then there is less chance of have to replace someone because of a bye during a league round…
Brad – I reckon you post a list of the SC Bye Rounds, and the teams that have the bye eg: Collingwood – 2
VERSUS another list of teams that have an AFL Bye in SC LEAGUE ROUNDS.

They could be worth a crack, but reckon if your gonna select them make sure you have back up that”ll play and have the as a second ruckmen at best if your using them in the ruck. Drew is more of an injury risk because of his feet. Some people think the same about Kurt, but he did play all 22 last year. If they both play consistently i reckon their averages won’t be far apart.

EM: Coad, Duigan, N Lower.
Midfield – Swan (Capt), Joel Selwood, Hodge, Goodes, Harris, Swallow
EM: Jacobs, Atley, Callinan.
Rucks – Sandilands, J Trengove
EM: Charman, Lycett
Forwards – Chapman, N Riewoldt, Rioli, Higgins, Dangerfield, Petrie, N Ablett. EM: Daniher, Retzlaff, Darling.
Cheers mate!

Good to have you back BK. The ones I’d query are Nablett (never a super scorer at the Cats) and Trengove (not yet worthy of your second ruck spot). Otherwise all looks good. Rus mentioned that Drummond could be injured – I haven’t heard that so look for nab cup results.

Motts – After a few or 10 frothies I’ll give ya another option.
Backs – Goddard, Gibbs, Deledio, Broughton, Adcock, Otten, Heppell. EM: Talia, Duigan, Puopolo.
Mids – Swan, J.Selwood, Hodge, Goodes, Harris, Swallow.
EM: Jacobs, Atley, Callinan.
Rucks – Sandilands, Petrie. EM: Spencer, Bailey.
Forwards – Chapman, N Riewoldt, Rioli, Higgins, Hurley, Knights, A. Krakouer. EM: McKernan, Darling, Smith.
Rolled the dice a bit. Spence in ruck could change and McKernan for the Crows one to watch me thinks.

Backs look very strong.
Mids look good, without being sensational
Rucks look a bit week. Mummy was great last year, but will he fully recover. Petrie is a risk
Fwrds are ok, but could be better. Chappy and Brown are injury risks, and Pavlich is getting on in age.

Richard,
At that price he is, but not until we have more of an idea about fitness. My research suggests he’s still along way off. He won’t play in the NAB cup and will likely have a slow start to the season. Either way, he’s break even will be low, so will still increase in value with mid range scores. Don’t see him scoring high early in the season.

OK so its early tf but here’s who I’m liking right now:
backs: Heppell, Duigan, Watson, Faulks, and after today Puopolo
forwards: Krakouer, Smith, Darling, Callinan, and if you’re looking to differentiate yourself, keep an eye on Levi Casboult at the Blues.

This is my current team:
DEF: Lake, Malceski, Gilbert, Drummond, Mackie, Toovey, Heppell, Cripps, Duigan and Taylor (the last three being subs)
MID: Ablett, Barlow, Watson, Trengove, D.Swallow, Gaff, Krakouer, Conca and Mzungu
RUCKS: Ryder, Clark, Simpson and Gorringe.
FOR: Pavlich, JRiewoldt, Podsiadly, Walker, Rohan, Hardingham, Petrie, Veszpremi, Day and Von Bertouch.
I’m not sure about my Forward line, but i seem to like the rest of my squad

Backs are ok. A lot of risky player IMO. Will Lake have mobility? Gilbert, Mackie and Toovey can all go missing for games on end.
Mids – again just OK. Jnr and Jobe are good. Barlow is expensive considering coming back from serious knee op.
Rucks, I like your rucks. Solid with just a hint of risk.
Frwds, an interesting bunch. Good without being fantastic.
How much money do you have left?

I prefer Voldt and Buddy over Chappy and Brown. Good call I think.
Players from teams with 2 byes have a large advantage over all other teams and the teams with 0 byes are most disadvantaged.

How does that work because you would think that players who have byes and miss games would be worse off than players that get to play every week??

I’d take Pendles out of that group. Should only get better this year. Murph is good but will face a lot of competition for the ball from the likes of Judd, Gibbs, Simmo, and McLean. Priddis is also good but plays for WC so you’ve gotta ask: is he going to get enough of it?

hey luke
I read your two teams above this and this one is the best out of the three. Backs are good but not sure about nuigan in your starting line up. Midfield very strong and will do a lot of damage. Rucks are good, i still have a thought that mumford might not do as well this year with a lot of pressure on him, but that’s just my opinion. Forward line the weakest out of them with a lot of money spent on your midfield! I’d have a second thought about grundy and wright. Maybe put petrie in your forward line for a new ruckman.
Nice team overall

Interestingly, (and probably rightly so) Gary Ablett has been named in very few teams. There is value all over the shop at the moment, but value doesn’t mean consistency. Also for those looking for quality bench players, look to those mature age recruits. It is rare for a club to recruit a player between 23 and 28 with no AFL experience, with the intention to develop them over the long term.

I agree, only 5-7 100+ players there. You need 11+.
If you’re worried about the bye situation, choose players from Melb, Syd, Freo or Bris as their byes are all during the SCLB.
So spend that money else where.

I think you’ve loaded up too much in your midfield. I would downgrade two or three of them. Your rucks are a bit risky use the money from downgrading midfielders to upgrade them. Backs seem okay. And forwards look fine except for Osborne? Maybe someone like a Veszpremi could take his place?

Not sure about Drummond. Very injury prone, is a massive risk. But if he could stay fit for the season he could be a big mover. Lachie Keeffe looks alright, but hard to see him get a game ahead of Jolly, Wood and Leroy Brown. Better options out there, like Zac Smith (GC) or Tom Derickx (Rich)

still $552,300 left in the bank but i dont think ill spend it cos the players i have i believe will improve in price and ill be able to buy more superstars faster, so im sacrificing maybe 1000pts in the first 10 rds so i can make at least $1 million more than people who have used that extra $552,300 which i havent used

Not a big fan of Miller. Put on the rookie list and reckon he is only there if one of the youngsters goes down. Astbury is a better buy. $229k, can play def/fwd. Was given the number 12 guernsey so gotta mean something. Mitch Duncan could be a big pick up. Expect to play more midfield with Ablett gone.

Wilson $270,200 if not injured and plays regular games for wce which i believe he will if not injured he can ave around 70pts per week it actually cost you around $370,000 for a player who scores you 70 points per a game so in 10 weeks time if he doesnt get injured i will make $100k, while some else could buy Enright with that money it will cost 478k and he will make 98pts a week so each istand to lose 28pts not that much that 478k i spent for enright wont add value to my team because ill probably keep enright for the year if i choose him for that price, were as save myself 276.5k and gain 100k so i stand to make 376k and the cost for it is 28pts x 10rds so 280pts, but now i have a player worth 370k and i saved 276.5k (477.5-270.2) so i essence i now have 370k+276.5= 646.5k to spend and in fact at the same time ill have a rookie worth 100k who has increase 230-240k or something i now have so i sell both players and i now have 2 supertars to buy with 886.5k and hopefully i find a bargain or two and i buy 2 players for 886.5k who are worth more than 900k. So lose 280pts for the first two rounds but when it comes to round 10 i now have more money to buy superstars, if had enright from the start im missing out on 646.5k that i could spend at rd 10, i make a 276.5k increase in value it costs me 280pts but 276.5k, if make that much money on all your cash cows you will have superstars in no time.
Duncan 282k, Dangerfield 340k, Knights 237k, Miller 209k Petrie 216k are all cash cows so you think or them in the same way so if i went with wilson over enright for example i save 276.5k, if go with Duncan instead of franklin for example 522k-282k=240k i save 240k, if by rd 10 duncan was able to play 8 games out of 10 for geelong (no garuntees but it is possible and with the 2 weeks he doesnt play i put my rookies which sit on the bench in for those two round) in those 8 round he may ave 75-80 seeing as he plays in the midfield even though you pick him in the forward line in sc that is very possible) and the price for a player with an ave of around 75-80 is 400-410k so again i have gained 240k + Duncan has increased in value by 118k so i now have 400k+240k=660k to spend on superstars. so wilson 370k in def doesn’t count in my calculation, Duncan 400k, Dangerfield 440k (ave of 84-85 i hope) knights 440k by rd 14 (ave 84-85 i hope) Miller by rd 12 390k (ave of 73 i hope) Petrie by round 14 440k (ave 84-85 i hope). plus the increase of value of the bench rookies and in the forward line i have maybe $2.7 million to spend that amount included the rookie prices i have Goodes and Riewoldt already so i need 5 superstars and with $2.7 i can buy 6 forwards on top of the two stars i alreadty have at an ave price of $450k so by round 14 i have already got Goodes, N Riewoldt, Franklin, J Riewoldt, O Keefe, J Brown, Pavlich, Waite and 1 decent forward on my bench. If you buy many cash cows and they produce goo milk your forward line could look like this by rd 14, and in defence already have Goddard, Gibbs, Connors with cash cows Otten and wilson and 5 rookies by round 14 if they all play i have Otten 360k-370k (ave 75) Wislon 370k (ave 75) 5 rookies at 260k each
I have 2,050,000 to spend and with that money i can buy 4 or 5 defenders depending on whether i can pick up some bargains. so by rd 14-15 i could have a team full of superstars but in doing so i must sacrifice having a team with a fair number of gains at the start to do so, and with players like petrie, otten, knights, dangerfield, duncan etc they may just play really well and i dont have to even sell them off.
As for players such as Connors 416k, Corey 427k, Anthony 363k and even Hayes at 503k all can produce much higher than there prices suggest Connors at 416k that is only expecting him to score 80pts he is capable of 90-100 no probs, corey only expecting 83pts for that price can easily score 105pts, Anthony 363k expecting him to score 69pts to make his price worthwhile he can score 90-100 as well so my theory is fill your team with cash cows and rookies and potential superstars and only have your must have superstars such as Goddard, Gibbs, Swan, Hodge, Montaga, Sandlilands, Goodes and Riewoldt. So only 8 superstars there you could put in 10 or 11 but your stuffed when 1 breaks down injured.

IMO too many inconsistent performers, e.g.Grigg, sherman, Cox, Waite, Anthony, Vez. You’ll be waiting very nervously each week on those guys to post respectable scores. you’d be better with Swallow on the park and Grigg warming the pine.
Good Luck,

Hill not predicted to do much (not in way of big consistent scores) , in fact price predicted to drop, not a great average over past couple years, i’d look at Liam Anthony at the Roos for cheaper and personaly i think he’ll have a huge year,

Supercoach predictor is pretty poor in my opinion. Stephen Hill should be a gun when he gets going and I think this will be the year. Liam Anthony coming off a big layoff with injury looks like a bigger risk than Hilly.

Here is what I am looking at:
Backs:
Bryce Gibbs
Brett Deledio
Corey Enright
Tayte Pears
Lindsey Gilbey
Sam Gilbert
Andrew Carrazzo
In the Backline I am hoping Tayte Pears has a break out year and Sam Gilbert can put the off field issues behind hi. Carrazzo I am not real sure about
Midfield:
Gary Ablett
Luke Hodge
Leigh Montagna
Steele Side bottom
David Swallow
Dyson Heppell
Clearly Swallow and heppel are my big risks, they are young and keen and I truly hope they have a big first year at thier clubs. Sidebottom was merely in the price range I needed….any thoughts on him?
Rucks
Aaron Sandilands
Robert Warnock
Sandilands is a solid player and Warnock found a little form towards the second half of 2010
Forwards
Nick Reiwoldt
Lance Franklin
Mathew Pavlich
Liam Jurrah
Scott Gumbleton
Andrew Krakeour
Nathan Ablett
I am takign a few risks in this lineup… A fit Liam Jurrah could be a game breaker for the Demons, I hope he gets there. Gumbleton is due to deliver for the Bombers. Krakeour should fit in nicely to the Pies and I am very uncertain about Nathtan Ablett….. Perhaps he might not even play, but damn he is cheap…
any ideas would be great?

Carrazzo could be a good pick up at the price he is. I’ve toyed with the idea of getting him. As for Jurrah, watch closely in the preseason. Past seasons have shown us that he is a bit too erratic for SC. He best is 120+ but his worst however is 30-50. N Ablett is well priced and looks like he will play majority of games, not sure if he will score big enough though. To me he is an ave 50-60. And if you were to put Heppell in the backline you will be able to get another young potential in the midfield like Gaff, Conca or Harris.

Not enough premiums in the Fwd and Def lines Jay. Try to downgrade some of your lower end mids to upgrade your upper ends such as Rawlings, Bock, Boomer, Tuck, LeCras to guns.
You have plenty of Captain options in the 4 best scoring players in the comp.

Ok, well…
DEF: Get rid of waters, obrien and murphy. There is better value out there.
MID: WAYYYY too much money spent here… veryy good, but your defence and forwards need upgrading big time.
RUCK: Maybe upgrade Natinui, and the bench players are rookies, so they wont play.
Betts, varcoes, lecras, roughead and watts are extremely inconsistent, and i dont think krakouer will play much.
My suggestions:
DOwngrade Ablett and kerr, upgrade defence, forwards and rucks.
Hope this helps (and isnt too harsh)

Lake is injured and out 8-10 weeks,K.Hunt is not popularly picked, two magpies in the mids may cause dramas when they have their byes, Chappy and Hurley both have a bye when SC finals are on, but otherwise not a bad side.

What does everyone think of grimes? Is he too much of an injury risk?

Cam i really like grimes this year. ok yes he has had injury concerns in his career but has just been promoted to the melb leadership group after only something like 26 games. Very very impressive SC scores from the adelaide and port games on the weekend. He will turn 22 during in May and is now entering his fourth season at AFL level and should go BOOM if he can get his body right. However in an article i just read he says that last year he trained with the midfield group but this year he has trained with the defensive players. I thought a call to the midfield was on the cards before reading that article. Although the raps on this bloke are huge.

what do people think about Grimes, Connors, Otten, N Lower, Gibbs, Corey, Dangerfield, Sylvia and O’keefe and Goodes these are some of the guns ive been thinking about putting i my team most of the other players i have in my team i think are definites.

Grimes – will be a premium some time in the future however queries on his durability with injury and ability to handle a defensive tag;
Connors – hard to justify paying that price for a player that has only proven himself over ten games after his injury/alcohol problems;
Otten – is a lock at that price because of the CD discounting after missing all of last year. Likely to be this year’s Malceski/Waters type if he stays fit;
N Lower – JS is the main issue so no.
Gibbs – a lock at D2 with M/F DPP he will probably be running through the midfield more now that Judd is gone however playing in a losing side may adversely impact on his scoring;
Corey – at that price he is very attractive given that his averages over the previous 3 seasons were 108, 109, 107 playing a possible 73 of 75 games. Obviously the knee is the risk however could be a very cheap keeping M 4/5 premium;
Dangerfield – game is suited to SC scoring and will no doubt have the big 100s, its the injury potential from his fearless style and inconsistency that need to be weighed up against this. Has enormous upside at that price if he keeps it on the cut stuff;
Sylvia – has undoubted ability but has now played over 100 games and not reached his potential. Best return in 6 seasons is 18 games in ’08 and ave of 88/90 over the past two years. Durability risk that is hard to see scoring as a premium Mid/Fwd;
ROK – disappointing ’10 but by all reports played with injury. I think he failed to handle the heavy tag. If the former is true and he can get back his free running style then there’s no reason why he can’t get back to the ~105 Ave’s of the past and be a cheap F3/4 keeper. Has missed just 2 games in the past 7 seasons;
Goodes – ’10 scoring was adversely impacted by his positioning up forward. Good to see he is up and running in the PS by all reports as he’s usually a slow starter and the new coach should freshen up his approach. Hopefully for his SC coaches Horse will rotate him through the middle. I think with the new interchange restrictions this is highly likely. Has missed 3 games out of a possible 240 so durability is amazing.

If you want to increase your blood pressure and stress levels then he’s a must.
Wait ’til he can score cosistently like the other Fwd premiums before outlaying that sort of cash.

hey guys, let me know wat ya think,i still have 310,000 in the bank, i reckon there are only 2 changes i would make.
Backs: Goddard , Deledio, Grundy, Waters, Otten, Heppell, Tape, res: smith, Jacobs, Duigan,
Mid: Swan, Hodge Pendlebury, Boak, Gaff, conca. res: swallow, mzungu, smith.
rucks: Sandilands, Seaby. res: petrie, campbell
Forwards: Riewoldt.N, Franklin, Pavlich , Rioli, krakouer, darling, howe. res:prestia, day, pitt.
the only concerns i have are heath Grundy and travis boak, i want sidebottom in, but can not justify 3 colllingwood players thru the midfield, especially when they have their bye. i plan to let me juniors gain price and trade them off, clearly everyone does that but lemme know ur thoughts

Hey Guys, i posted my team not long ago n since have made a fair few changes.
im pretty happy with my team n the only changes im thinking about making are trading in Callan Ward for Dangerfield in the Midfield then putting Dangerfield in my foward line n taking out Fyfe?
And i cannot decide between Riewoldt and Franklin!!?!? all the talk has been about buddy n i think the hawks will have a good year with him dominating a fair few games but i think riewoldt would be more consistant?

Hi Everyone,
Found this forum via google:) thankyou google!… This is my 2nd year in SC and after coming to some harsh realities in the business end of ’10 not having any experience with SC I’m looking to be competitive this year, if you could give me some advice on how my team is looking it would be appreciated.

I’ve got $180k left in the bank but I’m not quite sure if I’ve gone too all out on the midfield, I’ve done a bit of research on the guys that I expect to post some good scores and personally like how Heppell is performing already. There’s one decision which i found quite difficult which was whether or not to take Scully or Trengove but i think Scully could well have his mind on something else… Tell me your thoughts:)

Drummond and Adcock in the same team is also potentially problematic as they will compete for the same role and hence points (when they’re not on the physio table that is.)

Bench players are probably the most important component to setting up the right team balance do you need to post them to get a reasonable assessment.
Having said that, these are my thoughts:
Lake is injured and is highly unlikely to be fit let alone playing in Rd1 so look to him as an upgrade target;
Waters, McPharlin, Greenwood are unlikely to be keepers hence you will be expending trades to upgrade them. Try getting two premiums and one rookie for their combined cost;
Only two premiums will not cut the mustard in the midfield – see previous comment about your Def midpricers re: Jack, Dougherty, Foley;
Zac Clark will struggle to get a game, especially now with Griffin;
Fwds look pretty good but beware of the injury risk to your last four which once again will chew up the trades.
Good luck!

Hi Steve
very good defense, as many have already said Adcock is risky injury-wise
great midfield but i cant see both Wallis and Liberatore getting regular time at the same time so I would choose or the other but not both the bulldogs dont have the room for the both of them.
Ruck why are you wasting 260k on the bench with Campbell he isnt that great to begin with and fraser and bailey once their price increase you could quite easily do a double trade both fraser and Bailey out and you would 600k to spent on a good 2nd ruckman and a new rookie defender on your bench. Go for Derickx or someone like that dont waste 260k on your bench.
Forwards: A lot of potential not a bad forward line
Hope i have help you in some way

Thanks Catblitz,
I agree with the two Bulldogs so will keep the one with the best NAB cup form. I think both are picked for tonight. Campbell is only $103k and I think he will get game time with the D’s. Again, the NAB cup will decide the bench.

Hey guys i’ve had a play around and think my team is a bit better than before, what do you think:
Defense: Goddard, Enright, Grimes, Connors, sheppard, Astbury, Otten
Heppell, Toy, Batchelor
(i think he will improve who else do the tigers give the ball to when running out of defense? maybe Newman but other than Newman, Connors is the next best option to give the ball to and he has a great kick)
Midfield: Swan, Hodge, Hayes, Corey, mzgunzu, callinan
Bench: Swallow, Harris, Iles
Ruck: Sandlilands, Petrie
Bench: Bailey, Derickx
Forwards: Chapman, N Riewoldt, Sylvia, Franklin, Dangerfield, Knights, Darling
Bench: Matera, Richardson. I Smith
Sylvia is as good as any option fpr the forward line, Didak injured through pre-season, pavlich and harvey probs wont get any better, brown no way, Roili potential but no from the start of the season, Goodes starts slowly, Giansircusa capable of poor games here and there, Gilbert, J Riewoldt, Pods, Cloke no thanks to all of them,
O’Keefe i might pick him and most of the players cheaper than O’keefe not really worth choosing, higgins is a player that plays 5 weeks then gets injured for 3 or 4 plays another 5 or 6 games and get injured again i know this because i made the mistake of choosing the last few years.

the other thing i wouldn’t mind asking do I spend 522,000 on franklin i know he will improve because the hawks will be a better team this year but there is a good chance he’ll get himself suspended or do i choose Goodes or O’keefe nowing they both could improve i save myself 60k+, i know i ill get at least 18 games for the season i choose them.
So how much can franklin improve? at 522,000 you expect about 105-110pts per game can he improve his ave to 120? or is 105-110pts per game what he will give me? on other hand Goodes and O’keefe ave between 92-96 so will they improve or at the very least maintain that ave?
if goodes and o’keefe at least maintain their averages are they more valuable than franklin? I not sure so it would be great to see what people think Franklin, Goodes or O’keefe?

i ask myself the same questin ,is fanklin really worth his high price ….and i come to the answer ,is yes …first up he is a keeper in the side and i wont have to burn a trade to get him later on ,and he will dish out 100 to 120 average in the forward line this year hopefully ..and hawthorn has the multi bye in round 6 …i have goodes and franklin in my side and left out okeefe ..

franklin for me….he will have a run through the middle now aswell with petrie in the forward line.
i maybe be biased but i think the hawks will fire this season, rioli,burgs,franks,rough,mitch,hodge..i could go on forever! haha

Sorry D-Mac, but the list pretty much stops there. That’s the one thing about Hawthorn, they dont have a very deep list. Their good players are very good indeed but they drop off significantly after that. They have nowhere near the depth of say Collingwood, who have players in their vfl team who could easily play in 16 other teams best 22.

I think you are mixing real world and fantasy football D Mac. Petrie’s return at North Melbourne will probably not influence Alistair Clarkson at Hawthorn to run Franklin in the midfield more.
I know it feels like we have absolute power in SC but our power has it’s limitations (unless this a feature of SC gold)

i love that defense youve got rusty it is pretty wicked, midfield deledio is the only player I question.
Ruck is awesome
Forward line very good
you have many players who can play in a number of positions very well done and as i can see you have a team full of keepers
Goddard, Gibbs, Malcheski, Grimes, Hurn, Swan, Cross, Deledio, Goodes, Dangerfield maybe, D Swallow could be a keeper, Sandlilands, Jolly, Riewoldt Pav, Rioli, Petrie maybe, Mzungu maybe
and you have cash cosh cows otten, puopolo, toy, duigan, mckernan, Heppell, Callinan, McNeil, Derickx, Kraka, Talia, Smith and Darling
very good team

Your rookies aren’t ‘gold’ enough for SC. They won’t earn enough cash to allow you to upgrade your 80pt scorers into 100+pt scorers. Your rookie selections don’t include any of the dead certainty <200K players in Swallow, Harris, Hepell, Z Smith, I Smith, Atley, Toy, Coad, and the list goes on…….
Rucks are an obvious weakness also. You could easily cop doughnuts from the get-go with this set up. Smith will play for GC and Cordy will play over the course of the season at WB.

Rookie KPP find it very difficult to score let alone get games so I would go for a DPP in the mids such as Smith/Callinan/Mzungai etc.

*Andy Otten will replace Bock and play every game – only $185,000

Watched them saturday night and was mighty impressed by the standard in football and that was without Ablett and Bock.
For the flag, inexperience will hurt, but definetly top 8.

is hibberd any good, i have no idea if he plays rd 1 he may be an option for me i need a player to sit on my midfield bench who is a defender/forward and he and heppell are the only players who fit that catergory but i dont want heppell in my midfield because he could possibly be a keeper in my defence depending on how he does this season

defence so far Goddard, Grimes, Connors, Gibbs, Otten
so i need 5 more players have the option to pick 5 rookies for example:
Lower, Toy, Duigan, Puopolo and Tarrant (maybe heppell not sure whether to put him in the defence or midfield, that all depends on whether hibberd plays rd 1)
or i can pick 1 or 2 2nd or 3rd year players for example:
Tarrant, Astbury or Wood and 3 rookies (Toy, Puopolo, Duigan)
I suppose what im asking is if I choose option 1 do you think there are 5 rookies in that list who will play most of the games during the year and do you think they will score as well as the 2nd and 3rd year players such Astbury, Sheppard, Urquhart, Wood etc. i want at least 3 of my 5 players to score 70+ points
My Defence: Goddard 120pts, Gibbs 105pts, Grime 95pts, Connors 95pts, 6th player i want 70pts per week, 7th player i want 70 points per a week, Bench player 1: i want 70 points per a week and the other two bench players i want at least 55pts per a week

Any thoughts on Cyril Rioli – I know he is a superstar but I have him as my second best forward (behind Nick Riewoldt) I want to know what you guys think, and is he going to give me a consistent 100 point avg? I have also got another one in Robbie Tarrant – I watched him in the matches against Geelong and Dogs and he played pretty well – getting 9 touches in both games and a fair ammount of marks? And seeing his only 185,000 is he worth the risk?

I’m still not convinced on Cyril.
Will be very inconsistent so for that price, I’m not sure.
As for Tarrant, not sure he’ll play 20-22 games so I’d go with Otten instead for a similiar price.
Hope i could help.

through the midfield i have:
Swan, Bartel, Dangerfield, Hodge, Gaff, Heppell
Bench: Judd, Swallow, Harris
im unsure about Gaff i could choose M Wallis, Prestia, Atley, Claye Beams, Hibberd, Liberatore or isaac smith in that same
the other thing is heppell if i play heppell in the midfield he will be sitting on my bench because i would probably have Swallow and Harris as my 5th and 6th midfielders from rd 2 onwards, so heppell is a bit of a waste sitting on my bench because he will score 65+ points but if i dont choose him in the midfield i wont have be able to swap my defenders with my midfielders unless i play Gibbs or Goddard there and if i play them there i have Swan, Judd, Bartel, Hodge, Goddard and i will only be able to play swallow and not Harris in my starting 6.
so Gaff or someone else?
What do i do with heppell and Goddard, both in my defence and pick hibberd in hope he plays, play heppell in the midfield knowing he will only sit on the bench and could be a waste, or i play Goddard in my midfield leaving Harris a waste on my bench.

the other problem with this heppell, Goddard scenario is if dont play one of them in my midfield or i don’t choose hibberd i can’t swap midfield players with defensive players, but on the other hand if i play one of them in the midfield one of the two will always have to be in my midfield
which is not good for starters Goddard is made be to the best defender in the game so putting him in the midfield stops you from choosing another gun midfielder say at the end you Swan, Hodge, Montagna, Cross, Pendlebury and in your fifth position you want another midfield if Goddard is still sitting in your midfield you can’t buy that 6th midfield you want instead your forced to have goddard so now you would have to buy a gun in defense instead say deledio, i know as a fact i would rather buy a M6 eg G Ablett before a deledio.
If i play heppell there what if heppell becomes a gun and turns out to be a keeper in my defense very possible he will play in the midfield for essendon so it could happen if he stuck in midfiled i can’t keep him in my defense

Def: Goddard, Connors, Grimes, Gibbs, Otten, Heppell, Tarrant
Bench: Toy, Lower, Puopolo
Swan, Bartel, Dangerfield, Hodge, Gaff, Krakouer or Isaac Smith depending on which of them plays round 1
Bench: Harris, Swallow, Judd
Ruck: Sandlilands, Fraser
Bench: Zac Smith, Petrie so i’ll cop a 0 in the 2nd ruck position for the 1st week crap happens
Forward: N Riewoldt, Goodes, S Johnson, Sylvia, Higgins, Gamble, Mzungu
Bench: Richardson, Darling, Callinan
By finals time I’ll have to trade out Gibbs, Judd, Bartel Petrie and S Johnson or at least sell some and keep some on the bench

I’m pretty sure Judd is not playing rd 1 (suspended i think, and if he isn’t he will play in my top 6 midfielders from rd 1.
Im not choosing C Tarrant, im choosing R Tarrant from the kangaroos $184,900 looks like a player who could play most games this season in the heart of the roos defense, gets a lot of the ball and likely to mark a lot of the opposition kicks which in supercoach is worth 10pts for a contested mark from a opposition kick.
I want to choose Hibberd or Wallis or Gaff in my midfield but i just cant do it, i cant find the room + im not sure which one id choose (I can only choose 1 of them) .
L Franklin im not sure about i have the money to replace one of these players: S Johnson or C Sylvia or A Goodes for Franklin but im not sure, suspension is the biggest worry.

Hi,
Can someone please provide me with some advice… I believe I’ve got a pretty solid side with what I think are going to be good cash cows but with the inclusion of my guys that I think are going to be my safe bets I haven’t left my self with much to spare… Should I adjust my team to allow myself more spending money or should I just bank on what I already have and wait until the business end of the season?

Hey Kevin I am living by one rule this year do not pick KERR, he has burnt me the last two years and realise way to big a risk to pick in the midfield no matter how attractive the price maybe.
Also Kossie is a Dud get him out of your forward line, rucks well I would have Smith in From the GC on your bench he will play every game perhaps take out frazer and put in Jolly for the bye, if you can manage Petrie even though suspended makes a good rotation for you.
Apart from this looks a good team hope this helps

Hi Adam reckon you have a pretty solid team there not overly sold on campbell on the bench for you in the ruck, injuries a concern. If he comes up could be a good risk you took.
Not sure on the players in your midfield however always good to have one that could rotate to the backline, can see coverage for the forwards however seems to be none that can go back, just a nice coverage. I maybe over doing the issue with the bye but took Gram as my number 4 in the midfield few late injuries but can be a solid 90+ for you all fit and ready.

Your reserves are no good. You are too top heavy. The bye rounds for the teams will mean you will have too many zeros. Cut out one or two of Judd, Hodge Pendlebury and Cooney and save a few hundred thousand dollars, and spend on better rookies or do more homework on GC etc

Who do we all reckon is the best in the ruck (minus Big AS of course)
Personally I think Ryder might have a great year. And rack up the Sc scores more importantly

Hi all,
I am new to this and looking for some feedback. I am female who wants very badly to beat her brothers! This is what I am thinking:
Back: Goddard, Gibbs, Broughton, Grimes, Otten, Heppell, Hunt (Puopolo, Stanley, Hibberd)
Mid: Swan, Judd, Selwood, Pendlebury, Kennedy, Mzungu (Swallow, Harris, Wallis)
Ruck: Sandilands, Cox (Smith, Derickx)
Forward: Goodes, Pavlich, Riewoldt, Higgins, Krakouer, Gamble, Richardson (Michie, Smith, Callinan)

straight away trade out hunt, he wont be a big point scorer… and i recommended starting swallow on the ground instead of Mzungu.. other then that look not to bad

Get Hunt out and put Coad or Toy from GCS instead, i’d go with Coad. I’d take a chance and take Selwood out (gonna be hard tagged now GAJ is gone, have either Harris or Swallow in the starting line up, use the money saved elsewhere, you’re gonna need to take chances and worst that can happen is Harris or Swallow will increase in $$$s therefore allowing you $$ to upgrade later.
Goodes and Pav both same for me, leave 1 in and lose 1 for a chappy or dids, more likely to get a run on the ball and more points.
just my opinion and hope some help mate. Good Luck

a question open to everyone who are the best 6 supercoach superstars in the midfield in your opinion + a good bench player. I ask this question because when it comes down to it I want to pick a starting team that is based around a team that i want at the end of the season:
In my case my top 7 midfielders no including the midfielders that have a bye during finals are:
Swan, Montagna, Cross, Hodge, Ablett then in 6th and 7th midfield positions 2 of the following players:
Barlow, Pendlebury, Watson, Boyd or Hayes
so i want to finish the year with Swan, Montagna, Cross, Hodge, ablett and probably Hayes and Pendlebury

you can however choose to have a judd or selwood or bartel in your best 7 knowing they will sit on the bench for 1 rd during the finals but you probably who only choose one of them

In defence who are your top 8 supercoach defenders:
here are mine:
Goddard, Gibbs, Grimes, Connors, Broughton, malcheski, Bock, Otten
i only need to buy in broughton, malcheski and Bock, ill by Bock in after GC have had their 2 byes, malcheski i will by if he’s price drops and Broughton all buy after round 16 cos then he wont have any byes

who are your top 8 fowards?
These are mine:
Chapman, N Riewoldt, Franklin, Didak, Goodes, Higgins, Dangerfield, Richardson or Mzungu depending on who scores more consistently and how has the bigger ave.

Goddard, Gibbs, Grimes, Connors, Broughton, Malcheski, Bock
Bench: Otten, Hurn, Adcock
Swan, Cross, Hodge, Ablett, Montanga, Watson
Bench: Pendlebury, Selwood, some else
Ruck: Sandlilands, Cox

the difficulty im having is sidebottom in or out of my side
and in the forward i have darling, mzungu, michie, prestia, richardson all bound to get good game time this season.
I have dangerfield and higgins must cash cows if you ask me
N Riewoldt and Franklin must haves if you ask me leaving 1 forward spot with 5 players who could easily fill that position:
knights, vespremi, gamble, karkouer or Petrie

thanks Jack the question i have is all of those players will play this year, who will play more games for me knights, krakouer and gamble are all possibilities petrie may not choose him at all i think he may be past his best because of injuries and body full of wear and tear and for me i reckon. i considering this:
Mid: Swan, Hodge, Bartel or cross not sure, sidebottom, Kennedy, Higgins
bench krakouer, harris, swallow
forwards: N Riewoldt, Franklin, Dangerfield, Knights, Gamble, Richardson, Mzungu
M Duncan is also a chance to feature in my team along with prestia which means 1 or 2 of knights, gamble, krakouer or callinan may go so i can play either or duncan or prestia
Bench: Callinan, Michie, Dariling

why is that PA?
Chapman at 567k too expensive
Didak will start slowly because of a injury prone pre season so he will be a good pick up after Rd 13 as collingwood dont have any byes after rd 13
Harvey – inconsistent due to tag not getting any better chances of injury i think ill wait until his price comes down before buying
Pavlich – wont do much more Ave wise 100pts per week is his max
Brown – do not even bother he will hardly play a game all year injury prone
Green – I personally won’t choose him
Riolo – inconsistent until proven otherwise
Goodes – getting old less time in the midfield possibly will increase his ave but i would rather choose Dangerfield as he is cheaper is more likely to increase his ave by more and could be a keeper. Goodes wont ave anymore than 100 were as Dangerfield will ave 90 and for his price of 340,000 you save 219k
Gian – can have weeks were he just doesn’t score much at all, higgins is more consistent
Gilbert – ?? why would you ever think a key defender can turn into a key forward over one preseason it takes longer that to change a player
O keefe – thought about but too much chance of injury
So i have went with Dangerfield 340k, Higgins 380k, Knights 238k, Gamble 185 Krakouer 201k these players.
all of these players will play most games this season they wont score me 100 per game but it costs me $1.360m for 5 players and ill score say 90pts from danger, 90pts from higgins, 75pts from Knights, 70pts from krakouer so in total 325pts at the same time if went for Montagna, Chapman i would pay 1,130,000 for just to players and then ill be forced to buy 3 rookies with 230k. Chappy and montagna are worth 250pts at the most between them they wont make you any money because they are keepers but in my opinion i could pick both players up mid-season for alot cheaper and at the same time make so much money out of my 5 player. By rd 17 if all goes well and injuries stay away this what my team will look like:
Goddard, Gibbs, Grimes, Broughton, Connors, Otten, Bock
Bench: Hurn, Rookie, Rookie
Swan, Ablett, Hodge, Montagna, Judd, Pendlebury
Bench: Rookie, Rookie, Rookie
Sandlilands, Cox
Bench: Derickx, Rookie
N Riewoldt, Franklin, Didak, Higgins, Dangerfield, Goodes or pavlich or Harvey etc, Richardson or Mzgunzu or Ducan etc depending on which of these players averages the most
so going for players costing between 200k and 350k i can buy more players i can make more money and i can buy superstars when there price declined and pick them up for cheap

well you could say that PA but the winner of the competition is usually the person with the best team in rd 24 so to be able to indentify all your cash cow players and guessing which ones will play the most games in a year is a necessary question because the team you start with makes a big difference to whether you win or lose if i choose duncan ahead of gamble for instance duncan plays 19 games for the year while gamble only plays 15 that is 4 rounds were i have headaches because i have to find a bench player to cover for gamble. So think about who you think well be the best 33 players of year although it may not be a completely correct guess, this gives you a team of the future and that is what this game is all about ending up with the best team by rd 24 so choosing your guns from the start you want to choose consistent players such as Goddard, Swan,Sandlilands, Cross, Judd, N Riewoldt etc you want at these 9 of them. These players are players you hope will play every week so they are called keepers. Next catergory potential superstars 300-450k:
players such as trengove, sidebottom, anthony, Boak, Vince, Higgins, Kennedy, Dalziell etc. you want at least 3-6 of them 1 or 2 in each of your defence, midfield and forward for example i have Grimes, 428k, Connors 416k, Sidebottom 410k, Kennedy 394k, Higgins 380k, Dangerfield 340k these players i believe will be worth far more than the price i pay for them by the end of the season, Grimes will ave 95-100pts a game i save 50k choosing him because i could easily spend 480k for broughton or enright etc and get the same ave pts per a week, Kennedy and higgins to ave 95pts per a week so i spend 774k for two players with that money i could buy montagna and rookie.
I could keep on going on but thats ok
Supercoach is all about choosing a balanced team a team with 14+ keepers if possible and to do this you may have to settle for less superstars at the start and buy bargains players instead, this mean predicting how players will play this year and how many games they play is an essential part of choosing a team here are bargains i have found:
Def:
Bock 404k
Hurley 338k
Hooker 316k
Suban 296k
Sheppard 292k
Henderson 283k
N Krakouer 269k
Wood 256k
Astbury 230k
Suckling 224k
R Tarrant 188k
Otten 185k
Heppell 154k

B Smith 124k
Coad 124k
Mckernan 110k
Tahlia 110k
Toy 110k
Puopolo 104k
Lower 104k
Duigan 104k
Watson 104k
Bargains are players who you predict will do more than their price suggests in my opinion all of these players of on my watchlist because i believe every single one of these players will improve this year, then there are between 4-10 of them who i will choose from the start or consider choosing from the start or ill plan to buy a few of them in like Bock

Geez Catblitz, you have been doing your homework. Also to get you through you need to ensure you do not have too many from one team on any line as the bye will kill you. So it is a balance of players, teams and rookies making 2011 the hardest supercoach one to Win.
I would not totally agree with all the ratings:
Watson, Boyd, Hayes will not get much better already stars. I really think Sewell you are spot on he can average over 130 just copped injuries last year and does the hard work to get the points. I am not sold on B Ebert, shuey is like a rookie this year.
Would drop half the rucks you have Grimely from Hawthorn will not play unless Renouf, Bailey, Hale get injuries Zac Smith GC a must and Petrie, well if you do not have him you are mad. Sandilands you are right reckon every decent supercoach has him, although Cox is tearing it up early. I am struggling with Chapman this year had him in then out then in, learning towards putting Steve J, Rioli, I know I am a hawks man, but if Rioli stays fit Hawthorn love him and he will get plenty of game time he will be a superstar this year right along side Buddy. I did not put hodge in this year will probably bite me, just think cannot rotate is expensive can only have so many from one team Hawthorn midfield pretty strong this year Mitchell, Sewell, Burgouyne, Hodge, Lewis, Rioli will rotate through Bruce has moved into the team, then there is Young and So-on. I reckon Bartel is the one this year from the cats, Ablett gone think he will really step up good value. I love the supercoach keeps me suriving in when I work in Vietnam and China, all the comments great the site fanatstic, will send through my final team and you guys can rate it for me Cheers All.

Well you’ll obviously have to swap Malceski now that his knee has gone.
Your team will be unique but you don’t have Goddard, Swan, GAJ, Hodge, Judd, Montagna, Pendlebury, Riewoldt, Selwood, Sandilands .. these players are all likely to be in the top 10-15 points scorers. You are missing too many of the elite’s of SuperCoach. I’ve got 5 of the above and most SuperCoach Talk readers will have similar, if not more.

Hey Thommo
All looks ok however I be a bit concerned about the forward line, remember you need to take the bye into consideration and when Sydney do not play you loose Goodes, O’Keefe, McGlynn I would probably take out McGlynn, assume you have a couple of grand sitting there and put in Steve Johnston, you have plenty of coverage of Midfield swaps with Goodes O’Keefe, Pavlich so no issue to remove one if you have enough cash Rioli is a good option also you seem to be lacking in the Hawthorn players. Tried to stick to a Normal Rule no more the 4 from one club and never anymore than 2 from one team on the ground in the lines. You would leave yourself open to lots of trades to Maintain your team. GC is the tougher as they have a few cash cows so you could overload mainly Bench with them.

John, that is a great team, impressive. As you said Midfield a bit light on but cannot have everything and plenty of cash cows their to upgrade later. Plenty of the big names I reckon worth the risk.

in trouble everbody – im a saints supporter and this is year these are my saints, i am wondering if i’ve got to much saints because of Hawkers comment about no more than 4 from each team, these are my six
BACKS: Brendon Goddard – James Gwilt
MIDFIELD: Lenny Hayes – Leigh Montagna
RUCKS: Ben McEvoy
Forward: Nick Riewoldt,
I also think i’ve got strong reserves for when the saints have a bye, these are my reserves
BACKS RSV: Nicholas Duigan – Paul Puopolo – Cameron Guthrie
MIDFIELD RSV: David Swallow – Andrew Gaff – Rohan Bewick
RUCKS RSV: Max Bailey – Jarrad Redden
FORWARD RSV: Jed lamb – Jack darling – John Butcher
In my midfield you might worrry that when montagna and hayes go out there will be a biggap in themidfield and play 3 first years, but josh kenneddy (SYD) is my nuber 6 so I will only have to play 2 first year players, Swallow will play every game if fit so he is easy my first one in the team, and then out of gaff and bewick, whichever with the highest average, in my backs i got Hibberd as number 7 in team, Puopolo and Duigan mature age recruits, and if a team gets mature age recruits the club obviously intends to play them, and then i have got Cameron Guthri from Geelong, he’s got Ablett’s number so he’s obviously a star!
THANKS EVERYONE – TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK – THUMBS UP OR THUMBS DOWN?

Goddard & Roo are must haves.
Joey is just about a must have.
Gwilt is a nice p.o.d.
Probably not a good idea to have both Joey & Lenny.
McEvoy is a good choice, but dispensible in your present structure.
You could have Goddard and Gwilt on the same line if you have adequate DPP Defenive bench coverage.
So I would change Lenny, then McEvoy and possibly Gwilt.

yeah i chose Lenny.. Its not a good idea to have both i agree.. But lenny is my man.. and definitely not too old lol
McEvoy i think is too slow. I think he is great but the way the game is going you need a ruckman who can cover more ground or play in a couple of positions.
Jimmy Gwilt is very fast from the backline. He is going to have a massive year! If they stick with sammy gilbert up forward jimmy will have to take on his old running back role. and hes pretty cheap.. should go up in price!

I have Gwilt on my backline and think he’ll improve his score to a point where I can either, upgrade him into a prem, or, he becomes a prem in his own right.
I obviously prefer Joey, but, it these differences that prevent us all from fielding the same team.

Hi Jack if you look at Round 6 I think you could be even more strife, St Kilda share the bye with Westen Bulldogs abd Brisbane I think that round does not contribute to the local team challenge however if you have any interest in winning the cash that will really hurt you if Doggies and Lion players are in your team as well, I am a die hard hawk fun however I kept them to 4 yet I have same problem Hawks Share with Geelong Freo and the cats. The fun and games over it all

Hawker you’ve got great advice mate, j.w said to ditch Hayes. Maybe I should, but for same price I have bartel already, any suggestions and I have only got 6,000 spare for my team – and jw said ditch mcevoy – what do you think about Macca – definetly will be #2 ruck and pushing forward, and Gardiner probably won’t be fit for all of the season, and gardiner might get suspended too, so that would make McEvoy #1 and that’ll give him stacks of points, I have had him the previous two years, and averaging something like 65 I think in his 5th or so season he could have a breakout????

Looks pretty good but personally I would be concerned with having 3 mid-priced midfielders (Anthony, Palmer, Houli). All good players, but not sure that all 3 will turn into keepers. Better off turning two of them into a premium and a rookie IMO. I think picking the mid-pricers who take the step up to premiums is the hardest part about choosing a team and I think its very risky to run with three of them in the midfield, where you normally rely on your best players.

Hey Jack all comes down to choice. Normally if a pick a midfield saint I go for Dal Santo just me, but hayes will be good he fits into the Premium Class so if you like the man keep with him.
The two Mcevoy and Gwilt. Replace Mcevoy with Petrie Nth. He will get you more points just the type of player and can rotate forward if you have the right forward to move with. One of the reason I took K Tippett again (who let me down big time last year) If my calculations are right with Gwilt out you then have around 459,000 Gilbee would be nice scores well rotates, however the bye so you could go Chris Newman Richmond he scores well. Main thing this year keep your team balanced, but pick the players you like (more fun) but you will have to make the odd sacrifice.

Hey Catzbiltz rule one do not leave any money hanging around. 364,000 start looking at players that will probably not play or unsure, trade them out get a premium then rotate your team around this, Also I had Tarrant spoke to one of my Nth Melbourne supporter friends reckon he is to prone to injury so took him out.

Hey Jack also for your ruck I would give serious thought to Zac Smith from the gold coast, Max Bailey from the hawks I am a little unsure they are still treating him with a little cotton wool and injuries are a concern, makes it tough Round 1 as Petrie will now not play and if you then take Zac Smith as well you need two Rucks on the Park round 1 if you can manage that chuck him in the two will both go up in Value as the season progresses.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Hawker. I’m pretty happy with it but always good to get a 2nd opinion as your own can sometimes be clouded. I think it might come down to how well Anthony/Palmer/Houli perform this year. I might have left the mids a little weak but it might just come off

Hey Tim Midfield was my thoughts however you cannot have the same team as everyone else, Richmond seem to be rating houli high you have got both Harris and Swallow as back ups, so the risk looks less, you also took hibberd which allows you to rotate either Goddard or Gibbs, premium, to the midfield and Mzungu can swap with higgins. It does your brain in, the bye, but think you have set up the team well.

Cheers – yup that was the plan. I also tried to cover round 4 as that could be a big problem for many. Barring injuries I should be able to rotate Higgins with Mzungu and still have a full forward line up – depending on the rookies all playing of course.

Hey Jack Shannon Byrnes not injuried as fair as I am aware, but I do not think he is a guy which will average more than 80 spending that cash you need to pick someone you think will get to the 90 – 100. Started good last year but faded to the point of being dropped I think or nearly dropped. I would keep hayes if you like him he still a good player every one will have a different point of view on their midfields. I got Sewell in mine bit of a risk but he is the type if fit can move well over the 110 average, just the risk you need to take to be succesfull. I agree there still a few weeks away and selection in Round 1 for all the teams will probably supercoachs changing their sides around a bit. Poupolo pretty Popular however he is fighting against Cheney for the position so interesting to see which one gets the first nod.

Definitely considered Cotchin. Just think Anthony is already a step or two ahead of him and Kennedy will take a massive step up this year. Still got doubts on Cotchin’s durability too. Not rating Zaharakis though. Maybe next couple of years but has a lot to learn before he’ll be a genuine midfielder and consistent point scorer.
Judd/Chappy? Judd consistent but Chappy will always score bigger.
Bruce for Broughton. Done. I’m a hawk so am looking forward to seeing him off the leash and racking up the points this year.

Evening Fletch, here’s a couple of points:
You must have Goddard. Do whatever you have to do to get him into your team.
Do not have premiums (worth $500k+) from Essendon (ie Jobe Watson) – he’s not going to be playing for you in R24 (the SC final)
Get rid of injured players – Callinan went down on Friday, Maxwell went down yesterday.
Make sure you have plenty of dual position players (DPPs) to give you flexibility. You’ll need a pair to make it worthwhile ie a Fwd/Mid in your midfield and a Fwd/Mid in your forward line.
There’s other things I could say but for the sake of brevity I’ll leave it there. Keep reading the site for more tips.
Cheers pal and good luck!

well at $340,000 left for your 6th forward, i think it’s out of Dangerfield, Hurley, Leon Davis, Kenneddy(WCE) or Matty Stokes
Now that Nathan Krakouer is in Collingwood Davis im not sure about, he’s been “reinvented” as a half back, keep in mind at 337,000, he’ll be worth every cent if the risk pays off, remember he used to be 600,000+ 2 years ago and he was a available as a midfielder too, and everyone wanted him. But out of all of them Beats i think Kennedy from WCE or Matty Stokes would be good buys, keep an eye ot for Ben McKinley NM – Brad Scott said when they traded him in that he would be used as a midfielder also, hope i helped

Masten has issues with disposal, but works hard and apparently has been given ‘the wake up call’ from Worsfold.
He might get with the program and if you are on him you’ll gain a major benefit. That said, it’s a big if. I think you can find safer choices.

Questions:
N Bock at $404k good buy or not?
N Krakouer 269k good buy or not?
Bartel 497k good buy or not?
J Corey 427k is it worth it?
S Burgoyne 484k is he worth it?
Broughton 479K?
Goodes at 458k?
I might go with Pendlebury over Swan save 75k and score as much and possibly even more, i believe Pendlebury is more efficient than Swan and if Pendlebury gets a bit more ball he more than capable of averaging 120pts a week

other question i am a true believer of finding bargain players over superstars having said that
instead of choosing Swan why not go with Pendlebury
instead of choosing a Hodge or Judd or Montagna or Dal Santo from the start why not go with someone like Bartel, Burgoyne, Cooney, Sewell or J Corey at worst they will give you their ave pts per week for example Bartel’s ave is 102 he probably wont drop from that Ave but he could easily improve it to 110pts per week, while if you choose hodge or Judd etc they will only give you their ave, Judd for example Ave of 118.5 how likely is it for his ave to improve? you can always upgrade a bartel or J Corey or Burgoyne later on because one of those superstars will drop in price.
by choosing two of these bargain type players you can save up to 200k and if they increase their ave you make more money but if you buy a superstar you make no money at all you get their pts every week but there are no garuntees they will perform at the high ave
Like or Dislike:
0
0
if you choose Judd and Swan combined they ave 245.5pts per week
while Bartel and Sewell combined make 194pts per a week so 51.5pts less but with 200k i have more money to make those 51.5 pts anyways somewhere else maybe instead of buying a rookie at 110k i buy another bargain type player for 310k id probably find that i make 30pts there.
Upgrading Bartel and Sewell is easy as well trade each one out along with a rookie and you the money to buy a superstar, another rookie and possibly find yourself with a bit of money left over. by round 12 say i have the superstars i started with Pendlebury and Selwood for example and by round 12 i have Ablett and Swan at a discounted price.
i buy in Ablett at 595k and Swan also at 595k and two rookies, i sell Bartel (540k) and Sewell (490K) i also sell Swallow at 330k and Harris also at 330k.
I sell:
540+490+330+330= $1.690 million
I buy in: 595+595+130+110= $1.430 million
I make 260k i now have a midfield as good as the best players and i may also find that my 310k player has turned into a keeper worth 400k and upwards.

Most would have Swan as a lock for the Captain armband so you are potentially losing another 30-40 points per round if you don’t play him and don’t have another option that scores as well as Swan does for the purposes of a Captain… having a strong captain which scores high consistently is an extremely important decision when selecting your squad I reckon.

By round 14 your next trades are out go:
M wallis
A Krakouer for example i already have 260k or so in the bank
ill sell wallis for 290k
ill sell krakouer for 320k
320k+290+260=870k to spend so ill buy a gun and a rookie
Hodge is worth 560k basically the same as the start
I buy a rookie 115k
560+115=675
870-675=195k
i still have 195k
i have a midfield that looks like this:
Ablett, Swan, Hodge, Pendlebury, Selwood (mzungu) Bench: 3xrookies
(mgunzu is a forward/midfielder i also have Goodes, Higgins, Duncan and Prestia who can swap into Mzungu position i have a gun midfield a flexible team to cover for byes.
My keeper Duncan started at 282k he is now worth 390k and aves 84.
while the other team that started with more superstars looks like this:
Montagna, Swan, Ablett, Judd, Hodge rookie Bench: 3xrookie
while in the forward line 1 extra rookie can be found because this team didn’t have enough money to by a potential keeper.
So both midfields look similar, but this team has little to no money in the bank, while the other team has 195k. While the other team has a keeper this team has 7th forward scoring only 60pts, this forward will need to be sold because he holds no real value to the team anymore.
This rookie is worth 285k but as i dont have much money i am forced to trade out another forward rookie worth 290k so now i have 575k enough to buy a star forward and rookie.
Forward now has O’keefe + a rookie
O’keefe aves 92 at this time 8pts more than Duncan but while O’keefe had to be brought in using 2 trades Duncan was already there and the other team with 195k in the bank sold off to rookies Prestia in the midfield and mgunzu in the forward line a
prestia 290k + mgunzu 345k+ 195k in bank= 830k
I buy Judd and a forward rookie my team looks like this:
Midfield: Ablett, Swan, Pendlebury, Selwood, Judd, Hodge 3xrookies
Attack: Franklin, Mcglynn, Higgins, Duncan Ave 84, Goodes, Knights ave 70 rookie
Bench: 3x rookies worth 900k combine
the team that started stronger with more guns in the midfield now looks like this:
Ablett, Swan, Judd, Montagna, Hodge, rookie worth 300k bench: 3x rookies
Franklin, Mcglynn, Sylvia, Goodes, O’keefe, gamble ave 70, 1 new rookie
Bench: 1 new rookie
2x rookies worth 600k

anyways ive probably bored you, i hope for those of you who were reading along it made sense anyways
Team 1: You could go for 3 or 4 Guns in the midfield start away Swan, Montagna and Judd etc
or
Team 2: you could go with Montaga, Judd with two bargain type players like bartel and Cooney
the benefits of team two: more money to buy in more bargains, if one of the bargains pull off you save yourself the effort of wasting two trades to buy gun, if your midfield bargains bartel, cooney etc payoff you use will make 100k there + wont lose any points for choosing them. By saving yourself trades is very beneficial, if you didnt understand what i was trying to explain is if this tactic works by rd 14 you will have 6 gun midfielders while in team 1 your would only be able to get 5 in. It works out that you have more money to trade in Guns if you start with a few less guns to begin with. It is like a multipier effect: by saving 200k that 200k turns into 400k player while on the other hand you dont have that 200k and instead you only get a rookie that youll have to trade out + youll find that youll end up with a handy 150k-250k bonus in your bank if bartel and cooney make 100k between meaning that youll buy guns faster

sorry PA i meant rd 12 two trades and rd 13 two trades and rd 14 two trades
as for Swan and Judd increasing 20 pts per a game i think that less likely than Bartel and Burgoyne increasing there aves, i think Swan and Judd are at a level were it would be very very difficult to increase their averages but Bartel and Burgoyne for me could quite easily improve by 10-15pts per week during the season, Bartel will because when Ablett was there he was forced out of the midfield alot so lost a good 10pts per game on ave last season because of that, this year the midfield is his and selwood will be the one every team will tag so he has freedom, burgoyne for me i can see improvement he only aved 22 touches last season but that was due to injuries early on in the year and he only play 16 games. This year Bartel should increase, burgoyne if he plays every week no doubt he will start averaging 27-28 touches a game.

Assuming in the mean time you cop no LTI to current playing list and you don’t have issues in the other 3 departments of your team that need addressing during those times…
I understand your thinking but there is a lot of speculation and assumption that all those players are just going to by right play better footy which is not always the case, for instance I reckon it is a stretch to assume a bloke like Duncan you played 8 times last year for an ave of 58 is going to get a game every week and increase that ave by 26 points a round.
Geelong may (big may) not be as dominate as previous years meaning their scores maybe affected, Bartel may struggle without little Gazza and stay where is.
Sorry mate just playing devil advocate I know you need optimism but I reckon your bound to have 2-3 players that don’t perform to the level you’d expect and your theory is up the creek.
My personal believe is pick the best team you can for round 1 and then as the season goes on you can decide where and who is making you money and who is leaking cash and trade accordingly.
The joys of the game I guess and how it pans out we won’t know until the season ends.

one thing about supercoach is there a lot of ifs, buts, maybes your choosing a team on a basis of who you think is worth a spot, when i think about these things i want to know what my options are before choosing a team you can go for a guns/rookies approach that is fine it has its strengths and weakness, you can go for a bargain-midprice team full of players in which you think will improve or you can go for a mix of both ive looked at both the mid-price strategy and guns and rookies strategy and now i think a guns and rookies team would work well if you brought a few players who could improve their average but are not abosolute guns.
A guns and rookies team is like this one:
Goddard, Grimes, Broughton, Deledio, Otten, Heppell, Puopolo
Bench: 3 times rookies
Swan, Montagna, Ablett, Cross, D Swallow, Harris
Bench: Krakouer, M Wallis, Gaff
Ruck: Sandlilands, Cox
Bench: Bailey, Zac Smith
Forwards: N Riewoldt, Franklin, Roili, Johnson, Gamble, Vespremi, Mgunzu
Bench: Richardson, Darling, Michie
A midpricers team is like this one:
Goddard, Gibbs, Grimes, Adcock, Suban, Otten, Heppell
Bench: 3 rookies
Ablett, Pendlebury, Bartel, Kennedy, Higgins, Krakouer
bench: Swallow, Harris, Wallis
Cox and Sandlilands, derickx and bailey
forwards:
Franklin, N Riewoldt, Dangerfield, Knights Gamble, Vespremi, mgunzu
bench: 3 times rookies
or last one
a mixture like the one i was talking about before
A mixture of bargain players and guns
going for player such as pendlebury over swan
Bartel over Judd
Burgoyne over Selwood
allowing yourself more money for a few bargains like higgins, duncan etc

Yes, I think Wood has quite a lot of potential. Is he about 250k? Not in my side, but, I like him all the same.
I’d be wary of Dick & Sack @ this stage as both have afflicted by injury/illness.
Massive is looking like a must have.

Wasn’t sure where to put this. Jamison has just accepted a 2 match ban. He was a certain starter for the blues. Who will replace him in the backline?
Is Duigan a certainty now?

I reckon Duigan could be definite starter. What about Thornton? I know he fell out of the side last year. But he is a pretty good tall defender? Then there is Waite?
So back 6 for the blues against tigers??
Carrazzo, Bower, Laidler, Russell, Waite, Scotland, Duigan, Watson, Yarran, Gibbs, Thornton, Armfield??
and where is new recruit collins gonna play?
Like or Dislike:

Waite won’t be anywhere near the defence for the Blue baggers
Yarran def’ gonna be across the half back line with loadsa’ touches, Duigan in the full back line for sure, good by foot too, Watson will indeed be there on second tall I reckon, a stopper is correct, but looking at Carra, Yarran, Gibbs, Scotland, there’s some pretty good scores to be picked up if Carlton get theirS@#t together.

Agree with Giller, Duigan was always fillng a spot in Carlton’s backline. Motts has been spruiking him and Watson for a while now. That said, I’m not sold on Watson. He may be a spoiler rather than scorer.

Hey Heidi
Backs – You can do better than Petrenko. Cripps is good but can you really see him getting game time in the Saints midfield/backline?
Forwards – Judd and Selwood will go missing in the SC Finals because of byes – you’ll need to keep 2 trades up your sleeve for them. Masten’s cheap but I prefer Anthony – spend the cash on him if you’ve got it.
Rucks – Petrie will be out for 2 of the 3 first rounds. You may want to grab another premium for your R2.
Forwards – Look good. Haven’t seen a lot of Lamb in other teams. Sounds like an excitement machine.
Be wary of having too many guns from the one team – when the Saints have a bye you’re going to lose Goddard, Hayes and Riewoldt – that’s a LOT of firepower and a big chunk of points.

If you have an extra 10k then Easton Wood might fit. He is young and likely to have a greater impact this year.
Or you may want to downgrade to Cheney @ 163k and use the extra dollars to improve another spot.
Or follow the same philosophy with a rookie like Toy or Coad.
B.T.W I agree with Motts about Cripps.

It is permissable to have those 2 starting. I have 3 rookies starting.
Wallis may not play early. Conca and Gaff is a lot of money to sit on the bench. Swallow wont play R1 because of the GC bye.

Whats everyones thoughts on Ablett. Surely he wont have any match fitness what so ever. He hardly trained with the suns because of his injury and because the gold coast let him party it up in Melbourne due to his ‘lack of adapting to life in the GC’.. Thoughts?

I think alot of people (including myself), are planning on upgrading a mid pricer or cash cow after to Yablett after GC have their second bye (round 10). Also, after round 10, he should’ve settled in well, and maybe dropped a bit in price…. well, thats what I’m hoping for anyway

This bye, Overall and finals doing my head in.
I have Judd, Bartel, Gibbs, Enright, Class players then the likes of Heppell, Hibberd, Petrie, Richardson, Duigan which all go missing final times.
There 9 Trades gone for sure, plus then waiting to upgrade some GC players then trying to cover the injury to players shit this year is hard.
What have others done when picking towards the end, and can you really leave these players out, maybe enright from geelong, others would be reluctant to.

Rohan Callinan out for at least 12 weeks, From a rough look you do not
have enough rotation in your team especially with the on field 22. Goddard get him down back, Lake I think also is injured. Try and have at least two on each line can rotate somewhere.
When round 4 comes around you are in serious trouble you loss Lake, Goddard, Cross, Rewoildt, Giansiruca, hard men to cover so if you won’t to overall do well, move them out, however if it just to win the private league no issue. Need to consider who bye’s with who and when.
Round 4: Brisbane Lions, St Kilda, Western Bulldogs
Round 5: Melbourne, Sydney, West Coast
Round 6: Fremantle, Geelong, Hawthorn
Round 16: Adelaide, Fremantle, Melbourne
Round 19: Brisbane Lions, Richmond, Sydney
I am likely to get killed Round 6 Bartel, Franklin, Rioli, Sandilands, Sewell, So planning to ensure either Bartel and Sewell are traded by then to some one else Round 4 bit to close.

Just because this is a long comment please do not skip, if you need help with yur team read this and i hope i have helped you.
If your looking for a good allround team with good forwards backs midfield and ruck and dont know how to manage it, then read this!
~FOR~YOUR~BACK~LINE~
In your backline your going to need at least 3 premiums and a mid priced player. This is how your players could be.
#1 Defender – For your #1 defender i would pick Goddard, but if you want to have Goddard in the midfield than Lake or Gibbs are must haves. So make sure you stay between the 500,000 – 630,000.
#2 Defender – for your #2 defender You’ll need a player between 450,000 and 480,000 – good options for that would be Greg Broughton, Corey Enright or Chris Newman.
#3 Defender – #3 defender, the price range should be around 400,000 – 430,000 – good examples Jack Grimes, Brad Symes, Jordan Russell, Shannon Hurn. Beau Waters and Josh Drummond would be GREAT options.
#4 Defender – A #4 Defender should be a mid-priced player at 330,000 – 370,000. This player only needs to score you at least 70+ points a game, as your first 3 should average 90+. Good examples would be Xavier Ellis, Josh Hunt, Harry O’Brien, James Gwilt. Great buys would be Jed Adcock or Michael Hurley.
#5 Defender – For my #5 defender I would settle with a 250,000 – 300,000 player. This player could be a bargain like Gavin Urquart or Nathan Krakouer. Both these players are capable of averaging 75 – 85 points a game. Or the other option would be to go for a player who will earn you some cash to trade off later in the season to pick up someone around 400,000 +. A player like that could be Andy Raines, Callum Wilson, Taylor Hunt, Easton Wood or David Myers.
#6 Defender – This year your #6 Defender needs to be 200,000 and below. The obvious option would be Andy Otten at 185,000. But Mark Nicoski, Robbie Tarrant, Kyle Cheney. Marcus White and Marcus Davies would be great if they can score 60+.
#7 Defender – your #7 defender which is your last defender on field should be 160,000 and under. First year players like Dyson Heppell, Sebastian Tape and Michael Coad are good examples of a good 7th defender. I have saved 50,000 in my team and gone with Michael Hibberd at 103,000. Peter Faulks, Cameron Pederson, Andrew Hooper are some options. Xavier Clarke would be buy of the year at 111,000. If he plays well and stays uninjured for the season he’ll be great. Your #7 defender should score at least 50.
x3 REERVES – Your reserves should be 110,000 and under, and scoring 35 points minimum a game. And ofcourse you need one who is scoring as much as your 7th defender, when a there is a bye in your backline then you need to make sure you dont have a reserves full of no names. I have gone with mature age recruits knowing that they should play most games, Puopolo and Duigan are my first two defenders. For my 3rd reserve player i have picked Cameron Guthrie from Geelong, he’s 103,000 and has been given Gary Ablett’s number and they wouldn’t just throw that away to someone thats not good. I would suggest Mitch Golby, who has a kicking style like Daniel Rich, Matthew Watson or Blayne Wilson.
i hope I have helped with your backline! Cya!

Midfields turn.
~FOR~YOUR~MID~FIELD~
#1 Midfielder – Your #1 midfielder is obviously very important and may end up being your captain so he needs to score BIG! Your first midfielder will have to be over 600,000, or exceptions good be Hodge or Judd. Ablett, Swan, Judd, Hodge or even Goddard if he’s not in your backline, 1 of those players should be your number 1 mid. If you choose Swan Ablett or Goddard than you’re on way to having a great midfeild. My pick was Swan, I chose Swan because Ablett is in an inexperienced side and may struggle earlt on, and i didnt go with Goddard because he’s in my backline.
#2 – Midfielder – #2 Midfeilder can be between 545,000 and 575,000. If you went with one of the three over 600,000 then pick one that you were chosing hard between, than Sewlood, Hodge or Judd would be good #2s. My choice is Hodge but still wondering how he’ll go as the news said he “will be eased into the season.”Don’t let that affect your decision on Hodge because we all know what he can do in a game of Footy.
#3 Midfielder – Your number 3 should be between 515,000 and 570,000. Leigh Montagna, Nicky Dal, Andrew Swallow, Priddis, and Cross are good options but if you chose either Hodge, Judd or Selwood than your 4th or 5th midfeidler will have to be 40,000 cheaper. I went with Montagna.
#4 Midfielder – A #4 Midfielder can be between 450,000 – 520,000. With this i would try to pick a player who will iprove and average 105 +. Keiran Jack, Sam Mitchell, Adam Cooney, Jimmy Bartel, Travis Boak and Lenny Hayes would be good players to choose. A real bargain would be Luke Ball if you don’t already have Pendlebury or Swan.
#5 Midfielder – With your #5 Midfielder try to get someone in the 300,000s. With your #4 midfielder if you chose someone closer to 450,000 than 485,000 than Josh Kennedy would be a good pick at 394,000. Knnedy, Anthony, Palmer, Sherman, Vince, Foley and Howlett are players that could fill that postition. Dont get Kennedy if you got someone closer to 485,000 than 450,000. Liam Anthony would be a good option if replacing Kennedy.
#6 Midfielder – Your number 6 is the last midfielder on the field. 200,000 or under for this one. Swallow, Gaff, Conca, Polec, Mzungu and Atley are nice picks to be your 6th MID. I went with Swallow (obviously will be in my reserves for R1).
x3 RESERVES – In your reserves you could have 2 players around 150,000 like Polec and Conca. The 2 first reserves in your midfeild will need to score 70+ or at least 1 of them, because when a bye disrupts your midfeild, just like your backline you dont want someone who averages 30 out there replacing someone like Swan. The last reserves player can be someone at 110,000, 103,000 or 91,000. Ryan Neates, Mitch Wallis, Isaac Smith and Tom Liberatore are good examples.
I hope I have helped you with your Midfield! I will post RUCKS AND FORWARDS tommorow night! Cya!

If you guys havent realised yet i love to analyze things, some of the things i analyze may seem pretty silly or idiotic but by analysing different tactics and different ways of putting teams together id like to thing ill be able to find an awesome team. My next thing i want to analyze about is multi-positional tactics.
the team im analyzing now has alot players who can play in both forward and midfield positions and via-versa and also a lot of player who can play both defence and midfield and vice-versa.
What do people think about multi-position players?
How many multi-position players should we have?
How many multi-position players can we afford to choose in the midfield?
the team im analysing have these multi-postion players
Goddard, Deledio, Heppell, Gibbs, Dangerfield, Mzgunu, Hibberd, Higgins, Krakouer, Prestia, I Smith
that 11 multi-position players in total pretty big list
i have 3 multi-position players in defence who can swap into the midfield
i have 2 multi-position players in midfield who can swap into the defence
i have 2 multi-position players in midfield who can swap into the forward line.
i have 4 multi-position players up forward who can swap into the midfield
I want to know what people think of this stategy as i said above i like to try every tactic that is available to me find out what works and what doesn’t, i think this strategy may be the way to go this year.
What are the advantages or disadvantages of having so many multi-position players?
thanks guy anyone is welcome to have a say, as chat site followers we all want a good team and i think learning from each other is a good way of producing a good team and looking at various strategies will only make you better equipt for supercoach.

You Guys know that the best bet would be to have mostly your rookies on the field in the midfield right, they are the ones that gain the most value and biggest scores, also best midpriced players are in the forward line.
eg
DEF
Goddard, Gibbs, Enright, Grimes, Broughton, Otten, Heppel
RES. J.Batchelor, Puopolo, M. Coad
MID
Swan, Judd, Deledio,Chapman, Swallow, Conca,
RES. Hibberd, Polec, Mzungu
RUCK
Sandilands, Jolly
RES. Z.Smith, Derickx
FWD
N.Riewoldt, Franklin, Higgins, Krakouer, Knights, Gamble, Richardson
RES Prestia, I.Smith, Darling
This team provides Duel position players that you can rotate 2 def-mids and 2 fwd mid handy for the byes. Also leaves 126,500 in the bank. Plenty of room to play with before the 1st round to cater for the injuries

Here is my DPP team full players who can play two different positions:
Goddard, Deledio, Scotland, Grimes, Connors, Otten, Heppell
Bench: Tape, Puopolo, Duigan
Swan, Pendlebury, Montagna, Gibbs, Dangerfield, Mzungu
Bench: Harris, Swallow, Hibberd
Sandlilands, Cox
Bench: Zac Smith Derickx
Franklin, S Johnson, Higgins, Knights, Krakouer, Gamble, Richardson
Bench: Prestia, I Smith, Darling
167,500 in the bank
so that is DPP team 1 that could choose or i can go the other way:
same team as above but change Gamble for N Riewoldt and pick Urquhart, Wood or Astbury for Scotland

daniel are you sure kennedy will ave 100 thats what i thought too until i realised he handballs far more than he kicks for someone like that he could ave 26 touches and for any player who kicks more than handballs that is 100+ but for a player that handballs says 16 times out of the 26 touches he is less likely to score 100+ and he isn’t really a contested ball winner

~FOR~YOUR~RUCK~MEN~
#1 Ruck – For your #1 ruck it should be a premium that is 380,000+. Some options would be Sandilands, Mumford, Ryder, Jolly, McIntosh(if fit), Jamr and Kreuzer (if fit). Having Sandilands or Cox would be good because if your captains keep having byes than Sandilands is capable of scoring 135+ so he would be a good option and also Cox. I would pick Ryder if you don’t want Mumford, sandilands or Cox. Ryder will take a lot of the ruck load with Hille injured again.
#2 Ruck – your #2 ruck should average 65+ points a game and be between 250,000 and 320,000. Goldstein, McEvoy, Seaby, Warnock and Roughead would be good options to take as your second ruck as they should all score 65+ this season. I’ve gone with McEvoy as he will be St Kilda’s number 1 ruck for the first 2 months of the season but Goldstein and Seaby were the players II was choosing from.
x2 RESERVES – Your 1st reserve needs to play a lot and score 40+. I would suggest Zac Smith, who I’ve gone for, Robert Campbell, Max Bailey, Josh Jenkins (who may play if bellchambers isnt in), Brad Moran if he gets a go or Jamie Charmain. For your #2 reserve ruckman, if you went with Smith or Jenkins I would pick Broc McCauley or Ryan Bathie. If not then Scott Lycett would be a good pick.
Hope I’ve helped everyone with there rucks!Cya!

Hey Jack love the insight although do not totally agree all the time, however is solid, but here is a challenge, which provides the greatest challeng this year the Bye.
What is your advice for taking the bye into consideration this year,
Cheers

~BYES~ÃDVICE~
As I’m only 11 years old i dont have too much interest in winning the 55,000 and i know there are better teams out there than mine so i dont worry about it too much. im in my school league and 5 others. Because my main interest is beating my mate rohan and my dad in another league, and taking down a girl in my class little brother, i try to get as much players in my team as I can without overloading too much with the players that have byes in SC league byes.
For E.G ~
Round 4: Brisbane Lions, St Kilda, Western Bulldogs
Round 5: Melbourne, Sydney, West Coast
Round 6: Fremantle, Geelong, Hawthorn
Round 16: Adelaide, Fremantle, Melbourne
Round 19: Brisbane Lions, Richmond, Sydney
Those are the SC league byes and the teams that have there season byes in them.
FREMANTLE have both byes in SC league byes –
MELBOURNE have both byes in SC league byes –
BRISBANE have both byes in SC league byes –
RICHMOND has one of there two byes in SC league byes -
SYDNEY has both of there byes in SC league byes –
ADELAIDE have one of there two byes in SC league byes –
GEELONG have one of there two byes in SC league byes –
HAWTHORN have one of there two byes in SC league byes –
WEST COAST have one of there two byes in SC league byes –
ST KILDA have one of there two byes in SC league byes
so as i want to win a couple of my 6 leagues these are the players i have picked from these clubs with the bye.
FREMANTLE:
B) Broughton
M) -
R) Clarke
F) Mzungu
MELBOURNE:
B) –
M) –
R) –
F) Sylvia
BRISBANE:
B) Drummond
M) –
R) –
F) –
RICHMOND:
B) –

R) –
F) –
SYDNEY:
B)
M) Kennedy
R)
F) McGlynn
ADELAIDE)
B) Otten
M) Van Berlo
R)
F) Knights
GEELONG:
B) Guthrie
M)
R)
F) Motlop
HAWTHORN:
B) Puopolo

R)
F) Rioli
WEST COAST:
B)
M)
R) Cox
F) Darling
St Kilda:
B) Goddard Gwilt
M) Montagna
R) McEvoy
F) Riewoldt
So that’s 23 of my 33 players in my team from 10 out of 16 teams that have the bye in SC league byes. hope i have helped.

s it better to have a premium d/m or a rookie?
EG goddard gibbs or lids i got all three should i have 1 in the mids? I am reluctant to doing that since defenders score much less that mids which means that im wasting a midfield position with a premium who could play back. I am finding it hard to pick a mid premium besides from pendles swana and boyd and if i have gods in my mid it would free up heaps and heaps of cash.
Cheers guys

Hey Max, I have the same three in Back keep,
There are others in the Midfield you can have agree Pendlebury and Swan Boyd, but plenty of others Dal Santo, Montagna, Cross, Hodge, god of course, Judd, Grab some one like Hibberd Rotate Back, Also Gram maybe as a number Six goes back all that will add up to good scores.
You can also help out your midfield with Forwards, plenty of those to rotate through.
Hope that helps.

See a copped a few dislikes in the Mitch Brown from West Coast.
Know last year a disaster (Remember first round pick)
Well Collingwood got Injured 56 Points
Gold Coast 110 Points 93% EFF 4 Marks (Know not much of a team)
Hawks Only half a game 89% EFF 5 Marks 140 points
208,000 3rd year player
Comments from Big FootyFan on Mitch Brown:
I am confident 2011 will be his break out year where he will lock down the CHB position and score plenty more dream team points, living up to the number on his back…
Week in and week out he will crush opposition key forwards and 2011 will be forever remembered as…
YEAR OF THE BEAST!
Bit of a over statement but at 208,000 half that you will not go wrong

True Rich, but I do think he will be a similar 350,000 player halfway through the year (Barring injuries), Otten good Heppell young maybe inconsistent ( But a must have) used him as my 5th with Otten and Heppell at 6 and 7 Looks like he will have over 100 Point games this year, so well worth the consideration, but everyone different still think a worthy consideration for SC teams.

~FOR~YOUR~FORWARD~LINE~
#1 Forward – your number 1 forward should be between 500,000 and 566,000. Chapman, Riewoldt, Franklin and Didak are the players to choose from as your number 1 forward. To me your number 1 forward should average 105-110+.
#2 Forward – your #2 forward should be between 450,000 and 500,000. If you want Didak than he would be the one to pick. Pavlich, Giansiracusa, Rioli, Brown and Harvey are all good options for your #2 forward. Make sure this player averages a minimum of 95, but preferably 100-105+.
#3 Forward. Your #3 forward should be between 390,000 and 440,000. If you went with Didak, then your number 1 forward needs to be 415,000 and less. This player needs to average at 85 minimum but I look for a player who will average 95. McGlynn, Sylvia, Waite, Varcoe, LeCras, Schneider and Stevie J are some options for your number 3 forward.
#4 Forward – Your number 4 forward should be priced between 350,000 and 380,000. This player needs to average 75+ but is capable of scores over 100. Shaun Higgins, Mitch Morton, Robbie Gray, Jason Davenport, Chris Dawes and Angus Monfries are good players that can fill that 4th forward position.
#5 Forward – your number 5 forward should be priced between 280,000 and 320,000. I would suggest Trent Dennis Lane who ha been kicking goals for the Swans in the practice matches, Taylor Walker who has recently come off bags of 7 and 5 and Ben McKinley. A bargain buy would be Callum Wilson who is 270,000. This player should average 65 minimum but needs to average 70+ this year.
#6 Forward – this forward at number 6 should be priced between 210,000 and 245,000. With this pick you can either go with a bargain who has recently been injured or hasn’t played much that will have a breakout season, e.g Beau Waters in the back line last year started at 150,000 but take this player between 210,000 and 245,000. OR, you can go with a player who will earn you money and then you can trade him out when he reaches a high price later in the season. For the breakout season option there are players like, Knights, Petrie, Mark Williams, Vezpremi and Hale. This player should average 70 – 75. If you go with a player who earns you money than take Taylor, Jones, Newton, Maric, Hicks, Walters, Astbury or Hitchcock.
#7 Forward – The number 7 forward is around 200,000 and I don’t need to talk a lot about this position because people will take Andy Krakouer like *** that.
x3 Reserves – Some options in your reserves could be Mzungu, Darling, Richardson, Sumner, McKernan, Steven Motlop, John Butcher, Retzlaff, Broome, Lamb and Isaac Smith. Pick 3 of these players or choose others for your reserves.
Hope I have helped you with your team!

hey guys i was just wanting some opinion on this strategy that i have seen from a guy on a website.
His strategy is to have
7 premium backs
2 premium Rucks
7 premium Forwards
0 premium Mids
This means that he will only need 6 upgrades for the whole season and will end up having a great midfield because he will know who is performing since mids are the highest scoring position you want to be correct with your premiums. This will sacrifice points early but he will end up having a full premium team by about round 8 ( which is earlier than most teams have a full premium team) and all he needs for the rest of his trades are for injuries and form slumps. I think it is a great strategy and i think he will get rewarded this year.
tell me what you think since i am seriously considering this strategy,

Hey everyone looking for some feedback on my team, and about the strategy i have for my reserves. For my reserves I have all GC players, because they are the players who will go up in price the quickest, because other than Hunt, Ablett, Brennan, Fraser, Rischitellie and the mature age players like Danny Stanley there are mostly young 18/19/20 year olds, and they’ll be very important to the SUNS. I ‘ll then trade them off. This is my team:
BACKS: Goddard Gibbs Deledio Broughton Urquahart Otten Buckley
RSV: Tape Hunt Stanley
MIDFIELD: Murphy Pendlebury Dal Santo Kennedy Rosa Krakouer
RSV: Harris Bennell Swallow
RUCKS: M.Clark B.Moran

I disagree with your assertion that the GCS roohies will appreciate quicker that others for three reasons:
- their two byes come in the first and ninth rds so by rd ten only seven games are possible. History tells us that between eight and ten is the number of games for very good rookies to reach B/E;
- they will not win many games at all therefore the points allocation as we know with SC will be skewed against them; and
- McKenna has been quoted as stating that he will rotate the young rookies, expecting them to play approx. 12 games each during the season. Prestia is an example of this playing in the intraclub “possibles” instead of “probables” and missing this W/E gone in what was considered a Rd 2 team without the guns.

In a news it said that Hawthorn didnt give Trav Tuck a spot on the rookie liest, but chose former demon Paul Jonson……….. So……oes that mean he is available for SC or is he just in their reserves? in the VFL.

You have a pretty strong backline – midfield – ruck but your forwards aren’t great, but Higgins Walker Knights Krakouer will go up and average high so I guess it’s not that bad. But some injuries are in your team with Levi Greenwood and Adam Selwood. And my opinion is to get rid of Shoenmakers on your 7th back and bring in Duigan 103,000 from the BLUES. Tht would free up some cash, and the replacemet for greenwood could probably be pearce hanley or Andy raines , hanley one of lions best in GC win and raines has been playing midfield. That is only my opinion and make sure greenwood and selwood are out, I just don’t know how long greenwood is out.

what are people doing about these double byes they are painful, I personally dont want any more than 2 of my guns sitting on the bench on any given week this means i can’t choose too many lions, st kilda, bulldogs, melbourne, sydney, west coast, fremantle, geelong or west coast players from the start as i don’t want anymore than 2 stars sitting on my bench

hope so, say, if all our 6 midfielders average 80+ by round 8-10, we can load them off and then we will have full strength sides, we will be powerhouse mate, and by rounds 8,9,10 – in out leagues we may not of won a whole heap but when we have our full strength sides we’ll be undefeated, (or close to it)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LETS GO BIG V AND MAX
