The Big Sexy Machine 2013 Unveiled

Written by Big Sexy on March 21 2013

Ok, so Picasso wans’t asked to show a half finished masterpiece to anyone for them to critique … but having been forced to bow to peer pressure (aka schoolyard bullying) the Big Sexy is putting up the unfinished symphony.

Disclaimers:

  1. I’ve got $250k in the bank likely to go into the back line, but potentially rucks.
  2. I really like the idea of Burger, but succumbed and got Kreuzer this week, but still not sold so Cox and Mummy may still get a run.
  3. No rookie will get a run if not named in round 1.
  4. Before Motts wets his pants and comments on Byrnes and Varcoe, my explanation is simple, the extra $100k on each play is buying me job security up forward.  I don’t expect they will average much more than 70.
  5. I’m realistic and not going for the $50k prize, purely focused on my cash league win (which is 2 out the last 3 years)
  6. Regardless of what Motts says, MJ will smash us both.

Tear it apart, appeciate all feedback (except Motts!)

  1. Can see why you went Langford down back but better options out there. Forwards a little weak but strong prem mids.(who doesn`t though?)

No Kerridge in rookie mids, would use Byrnes` coin to get Wines in. Like the value option in the rucks but no Cox and Ryder in forwards is shotgun to the foot. Good luck

  2. Hey Big Sexy.

Thanks for putting that up. I’m with Motts, I don’t like your team. (not that you care but that’s my thoughts).

    Backs – Weak
    Rucks – Weak
    Fwds – Weak

Lee, Neade, Byrnes and Varcoe will be lucky to get 100pts between them.

Potentially change Grimes to Heppell/Hartlett, Hanley all for roughly the same coin.

Upgrade Byrnes to JJ Kennedy (WCE) and take an extra $200K and upgrade Varcoe to LeCras/Walker/Cloke/Lynch/Milne/Shultz/Gray/Betts/Garlett/Hurley/Hill/Bird/Gunstan/Martin pretty much anyone.

  3. Just thinking

If everyone has near the same number and names in Rookie Mids and the average differences in ultra premiums is pretty close shouldnt we see lots of close scores in the midfield wars?
If so doesn’t that add a lot of emphasis to the scoring abilities of the other lines? Seems that people are selling themselves a tad short in defence and attack (noting most are going A gun and A mid/rook Ruck line) and putting all the cash into the middle where there are very few POD.
I think finding “value” in the middle (via some mid priced mids) and using the savings to get you another gun back and forward could be the biggest POD this year….

  5. Actually don’t mind the side BS. I like Grimes as a selection. I like your premium midfield brigade, in that they are all proven SC elites over many seasons. I also respect your ruck department. Goldstein and Kreuzer should certainly improve on their averages from last season. Forwards are my only concern. I don’t like Varcoe or Byrnes, and I’m not sold on the prospects of Lee or Neade. Any reason you dismissed Karnezis? Or is it just that you’d rather the older bodies of Varcoe and Byrnes?

  6. Not a bad side Big sexy! some suggestions for you to consider (probably already have).

Backs – Jasper Pittard @ Brett Goodes could be worth inclusion in the back line for some of the other selected rookies?

Mids – I think your mids are very strong, like the Selwood selection as hes probs not as popular as some of the other premo’s atm and still scores well.

Rucks- I don’t mind your ruck selections. Watch Smith and the Buger situation for good downgrade options if one of your current selections starts under performing.

Fwds – Personally I think Franklin might have a slow start to the season but who knows with Buddy right :p also as a Brisbane fan id have to say your mad not having Karnezis in your side over Varcoe/Bynes. Karny showed in NAB cup that hes ready to take his game to the next level running from 50-50 arcs and for only 262k he can only get better.

Anyways good luck for the season!

  7. Solution to the forward line could be to use some of that cash to upgrade one of your rucks to Cox, Roughy or Ryder, then switch out Lee with Rowe for the DPP flexibility. Would still leave you with some cash as well.

On the ruck note, I’ve hit the wall with my R2 spot. It’s now being decided on amusing name combinations, as that seems as good a strategy as any.

    Rough-Cox
    Cox-Ryder
    Goldy-Cox
    Cox-Kreuzer
    Jolly-Cox
    Cox-Berger
    Longer-Cox

Too many options for a TU/TD but anyone who comments a preference will have their vote counted during my considerations. With every option except Cox-Berger/Longer-Cox my M5 spot will be taken by Moloney. Berger/Longer would allow for one of Murphy or Cotchin to take that spot.

**Please note that Jacobs and McEvoy will not be considered as they don’t combine with Cox to create an amusing name**

  8. Surely Grimley is there for the VC loop-hole, right? As you need a non playing player to whack the Big C on if your VC guns it. And Hawks is the best option for the first few rounds, as they play their games late in the rounds, thus giving you the most options to name as your VC. I have Grimley in R4 for this reason too!

  9. Forget putting the $250K into your backs, that forward line is horrendous. Need a serious upgrade in that area BS!

  11. Can you tell me if we get unlimited trades after these first 2 games and the rest of round 1 as I’m not sure if some of my team will get selected

  12. Hey BS very gutsy team – it’s so hard to assume in this game.. But if you go with your gut – it can definitely end up rewarding you! Good luck buddy!

    Dilemmas on my own team..

B: Gibbs, Grimes, Heppell, Goddard, Vlast, Goodes (docherty, terlich)
M: GAJ, Pendles, Murphy, Danger, Moloney, Jäger, crouch, wines, (kerridge, colquhuon)
    R: Gold, Berger (Rowe, currie)
F: Cox, Zorko, Rocky, Martin, Karnezis, Mcaffer (Neade, Cameron)

$110k cash….. Any tips guys? Where should I be moving the cash/rookies?
