The Captaincy Loophole

Written by Motts on March 19 2011

OK so you’ve got your team settled. That’s good. Now for your next big decision: are you going to exploit the loophole that allows you to change your captain on Friday next week by naming one of the Carlton or Richmond superstars as your vice-captain on Thursday night?

If any team were to drop out of the Top8, it would be...........(two choices)

  2. I presume that your logic is that if Gibbs doesn’t score big you swap over to Goddard. I have that option, or could go Delidio -I wont.

Do you think that the news that Judd is prepared to miss Rd 21-ish for the birth of his daughter, coupled with the bye, now make him someone to steer clear of?

  3. Hi, so given that we can pick a Captain, emergencies etc on Friday for the rest of the weekend…do we still have unlimited trades too? (excepting carlton/richmond players)
    Cheers 🙂

  4. You have to select a Captain – it won’t let you not have one. The idea is to select a Blue or Tiger (HAHA) as VICE Captain and someone not playing as Skipper. Then if your VC kills it you can pick someone who is not going to play on the W/E as your C, alternatively if your VC spuds it you can revert to Gods/Swanny etc.
Be careful about picking your “dummy C” that you think won’t play though as if he’s a late change in then you will get his score doubled.
eg: I will have Juddy as VC, and McCaulay as C. If Juddy kills Macca will retain the C, if not Gods gets it.

  5. My understanding with the partial lockout is that you can still make unlimited trades (other than the full Blues/Tigers lists) up until final lockout on Fri night.

  6. Guys, as an avid Tigers fan I’m as self-deprecating as the next person (call it a survival technique if you will). But can we at least wait until the season starts until we lay into ’em too heavily?

  7. Anybody know if there are many Thursday or Monday games fixtured this year? I like Fr-Sun fixturing myself with Sunday night SC scores.

  8. You’re right PA my apologies -I remember trying to get my head around this stuff last year as it was a mess. I know that once you’ve selected someone as C (ie: physically clicked on the C icon under the player’s name, then you have to have a C. You can’t “de-select” a C you can only transfer it.
Will have to read up on the rules for not selecting a C (in case there is a default mechanism) as I’m yet to do so however I don’t really see an advantage to not having one (other than the obvious Rd 1)

  11. Deano, if you don’t select a C or VC once the has started, then none of your players get double points, i.e. there is no default mechanism.
The first few rounds of my first SC year provided me with this knowledge.

  12. Rd 5 should be painful. Teams in on thursday, results on tuesday night. Why schedule a game on tuesday night? Then teams in again for thursday game.

Disclaimer: no offence to aforementioned nob if he/she reads this.

  14. Cause it’s Easter/ANZAC weekend. Mon and Tues are public hols that weekend so it’s perfectly logical to have footy on those days. I’m fairly confident it would be a Tuesday day game day, not night.

  15. I’m going to give Gibbs a shot at the double points on Friday night (it was him or Deledio and with an expected Carlton win plus lots of talk in the last few days of Gibbs getting more midfield time he’ll get the VC). If he scores sub 120 (which i expect he will) BJ or Pendles are likely to get the Captain’s armband.

  16. I am still unsure as to how this loophole works. Would you named Gibbs as say VC then a bench player as C. Then on the friday you change you C to say Goddard if you are not happy with the score from Gibbs? Is that how it works?

  17. Here’s what I’m doing, and Deano correct me if I’m wrong.
First of all, I’m putting a Gold Coast player on the field somewhere and naming an Emergency in that position that I know will play. Then I’m giving that GC player the captaincy and making Gibbs VC.

After Thursday night, if I’m happy with Bryce’s score (which I probably will be!) I’ll leave the captaincy on the GC bomber. If, in the highly unlikely eventuality, I’m not happy with Gibbsy’s score, I move the C to Goddard.

  19. Purely as a result of the continual Richmond jibes besmirching this otherwise useful thread, I’ll be plonking it on Foley. And yes I have Gibbs.

  20. might be ’cause your team’s better than there’s

i’d be pretty happy with this team … personally would change Boak and Boyd but i can see the reasons why you have picked them both.

  21. I dont see the point in this.
Lets say u select gibbs as ur VC, and he plays very well.
does that mean u have to make a spud captain?
if this is the case u will have a doughnut that u couldve prevented…?

  22. if you dont understand the loophole its safe to say you shouldn’t use it! lol

    how hard is it!

Step 1) Put a gc player on the pitch for one of ur rookies and name him/her as emergency
Step 2) Make the Gc player you placed on the field in step 1 a CAPTAIN
Step 3) pick Foley,Gibbs,Judd,Delidio, Matthew Richardson,Ratten as your VICE CAPTAIN
Step 4) if they score well dont change anything
Step 5) if they score like Relton Roberts make someone who is yet to play like Godds,Swan,Selw,Pendl,Modra, Dunstall, your CAPTAIN

its pretty easy, ur mum could do it!

Sorry im Angry because my dreadlocks are all tangled and I can’t play round 1

    🙂

  23. Okay I didn’t quite understand this last year and i still don’t.
But does this mean if you use it, you will get a 0 from the captain and therfore only 21 players?

    0

  24. It’s quite simple people
Step 1: Select a Blues or Tigers gun as your VC.
Step 2 : Depending on how he performs (if he scores 120+) then put in a GC player and put someone like Goddard on the bench and make him your emg. Or if he has a shocker just select a gun as you’re C.

  25. Aren’t you missing a step 6?

If they score badly, you make Gods (or other) captain, but you then need to get your GC player of and your rookie back on… right?

    0

    0
  26. I understand all that (thanks Motts) but one thing remains unclear.

If I’m not happy with Gibbs score and change the C to Goddard, I then need to get the GC player off the field and replace the rookie… right?

  27. Personally i’m weighing up Royce Hart and Earl Spalding to be my captain selection for Thursday night … leaning towards Earl Spalding

    0

    0
  28. Yep. But make someone who’s sure to play the GC player’s Emergency just in case, for whatever reason, you don’t get back in and change it.

    0

    0
  29. In the cold light of day i realise the error of my ways … Royce Hart was clearly a nonsense suggestion as my Thursday night vice-captain

… Earl Spalding, you’ve got the VC armband, my team needs you, now go out there and “win one for the gipper”

  30. also really ellitarate!!!!

if a red squiggly line comes up under your word, give it the old right click Maxibon and see what it suggests is wrong with the spelling of the word

  31. If Gibbs smokes 130 Thus night i’ll be playing Joel Tippett at R2 and have Cox as an emergency

If Gibbs stinks it up with 80 Thus night i’ll give the C to Goddard, Riewoldt, Selwood, Pendles or Sandi

If you don’t think it works JJ then just leave the theory, and us nuts that love these little loopholes will try and eek every last advantage we can over the system

  32. is thursday night a partial lockout ? and can you still tweak your side right up to friday night,s full lockout ?

  33. Ok GuysI will give this cappy loopole 1 more go and if i still dont get it i will go with the norm
here is what i think i should do correct me if im wrong
I make gibbsy my vice put on a gold coast rookie take off goddard make him emergency for the gold coast player . if gibbs plays a blinder then goddard comes in as a normal player .if gibbsy has a stinker , i am allowed to make gods my captain on the friday. is this even close to correct

    0

    0
  34. Close but no cigar, if gibbs plays a blinder leave as is don’t bring Godds on , leave him on the pine as the emergency for the GC player.

    0

    0
  35. ok i get that. He will come on anyway as GC have a bye BUT IF GIBBSY HAS A STINKER I AM ALLOWED TO MAKE GODS CAP ON THE FRIDAY IS THAT RIGHT

    0

    0
  36. So I take my vice captain off and make him a GC player. Then replace a rookie with a spud who won’t play. I make Gibbs a Ruckman and hope he plays a blinder. The rookie who was swapped with a GC player becomes Goddard. Any other rookie who plays crap becomes a Richmond player??

  37. Seriously now, there is an easier way to do this.

    1. Name a Vice Captain (e.g Gibbs) for Thursdays game.
    2. Don’t name a Captain
    3. If VC performs, do nothing
    4. If VC doesn’t perform, name a Captain (e.g God) before final lockout.

If you have already named a captain, you can remove this. Here’s how…

    1. Remove the player you named as Captain.
    2. Temporarily Add another player of equal or less value to replace him.
    3. Save your team.
    4. Remove the replacement player.
    5. Add back your original player
    6. Save your team – he shouldn’t be captain anymore.

  38. Is it possible to see how Yarran goes tonight…..and if he kills it in his “new” role then bring him in after the partial lockout re-opens??
(i’d assume he’d then need to be a non-scoring bench player for this round but also not costing an actual trade at a later stage) or are all Carlton/Richmond players unavailable….????

    I don’t have him obv 🙂

    0
  39. Name him as an emergency… if he pulls 100 points then swap in one of your Suns and make him your 0 point scorer to take advantage.

I’ve done this with Foley, Yarran and Duigan with the hope that there is no substitutions or injuries.

  40. With Gibbs getting 133 as my VC which i am happy to double, can someone please reconfirm if:-
    A) I can avoid putting in a captain prior to lockout?
    B) I start GC player as Captain but Goddard as emergency on bench. Goddard would not now become captain?

  41. 133pts is something i’ll take for my captain so i will be putting Petrie into R2 and Cox as my R3 emergency. Will make Petrie captain knowing he’ll cop a doughnut, Cox’s score will count and Gibbs’ 133pts is now 266pts!!

  42. Guys.
You just have to not nominate a Captain. If you already have one then trade that player out for another, save your team and then trade the original back in. You will now notice there is no C highlighted.
This alleviates the possibility that a late exclusion will give you a 0 with the Petrie/Stanley etc onfield Captain option and your E covering them. Its not rocket surgery!!!

  43. Ok…. so i had Gibbs last night as VC….I’m happy to take his score…..I also put Smith (GCS) on the ground as Captain and named Sandi as EMG.
    Question…
If I remove and then add Smith from my team to un-select a Captain and thus enabling Sandi back on the ground to free up my EMG selection will I get double for Gibbs if I have no Captain selected?

I ask as i’ve had conflicting information saying I need to leave it how I have set it up otherwise my VC does not score double without a C selected in the team….

  44. i had gibbsy as my vc last night happy to take the 133 + double as Captain .i had gods on the bench and a gold coast player in the side i will now bring in gods for the GC Player who obviously wont play to be sure name the GC player captain . I am pretty sure this is allowed any one can correct if this is wrong .
