The Captains Table – Rd2

Written by Schwarzwalder on March 29 2018

Not a bad effort last week if you stopped by The Captains Table.  Guests included Dusty Martin and leather-poisoning victim, Tom Mitchell.  Let’s see if we’re as lucky this week with our selections.  The Invites have been sent out for Rd2 and the recipients are…………(times shown are in AEDT)……….

Dustin Martin (RIC), Thursday Night 7.50pm (vs ADE) – Started his 2018 campaign with a lazy 32 touches against the Blues which amounted to another 139 SC pts.  Just keeps producing the big numbers, how could you back against him at this stage?  Historically has a decent record against the Crows as well…….150 (GF), 93, 81, 145, 79, 126, 134, 114

Patrick Cripps (CAR), Saturday Afternoon 1.45pm (vs GCS) – I’m a big fan of this kid, love the way he goes about it…..luckily enough, that is very SC-friendly 😉  Make no doubt about it…..if Cripps stays fit this season, you will see elite numbers across the entire year.  Began the year with 36 touches against the Tigers, 25 (!!) of which were contested, and ended on 130pts.  If not for the seven clangers, Cripps would’ve finished well over 150+.  Height, strength, endurance (94% Time On Ground last week)……this kid has it all.  I have a feeling he’ll be appearing at the Captains Table quite often in 2018.  Last time against the Suns: 27 disposals & seven tackles for 114pts.

Max Gawn (MEL), Saturday Night 7.25pm (vs BRL) – Could’ve been a larger result last Sunday against the Cats but Gawn still had the big game that we’d all been hoping for.  Looks to be the clear #1 SC Ruckman after a 139 performance against Geelong.  20 disposals , 47 Hit-outs and a goal……very hard to ignore that.  Only worry that I have is his record against Stefan Martin…..78, 56, 105 & 65.

Nat Fyfe (FRE), Saturday Night 7.40pm (vs ESS) – Was tagged by Ebert last week against Port but SuperCoaches were still left a little disappointed with the 75pts.  Could’ve been better if not for the seven clangers but I’m expecting a big turnaround against the Bombers on Saturday night.  The Bombers didn’t bother with the tag last week despite Laird & Crouch racking up 40 touches each.  Wouldn’t expect them to use it here either. Last three against Essendon: 121, 99 & 121.

Tom Mitchell (HAW), Monday Afternoon 3.20pm (vs GEE) – Speaking of a tag…..maybe Buckley will send one his way in the future?  Fair dinkum……when an opposition player has 30 touches to half time, and you’re getting beaten, maybe the thought should cross your mind?  It was terrible coaching for Collingwood supporters but absolute gold for SuperCoaches that had the Big C on Mitchell 😉  Rarely goes under 30 disposals, he gets an invite to the Captains Table just through sheer weight of numbers.  Last three against Geelong: 136, 85 & 121.

HONORABLE MENTION

Geelong Midfield, Monday Afternoon 3.20pm (vs HAW) – At time of writing, still not clear if Dangerfield was coming back into the side as planned.  If he’s there and you patiently waited a week then he’s an option.  If he’s not out there, then Ablett and/or J.Selwood become the main focal points.

Good Luck this weekend, Coaches!  Have a lovely Easter break!

  1. I never realised Cripps had 94% TOG last week. That’s rather impressive. Fits the mold of “goes forward for a rest rather than the bench and might snag a goal while doing so” – hence why Danger/Dusty have been so prolific for SC scoring the last few years. No doubt top 10 mid if he stays fully fit.

Locked in for the VC for me.

    1. Following nateo. Reckon Cripps could go off against gc. What r the chances Geelong will shut down Mitchell?
