The Captains Table – Rd4

Written by Schwarzwalder on April 15 2016

No shortage of great Captains choices last week.  Robbie Gray started the weekend off with a respectable 123 on Friday night.  Hannebery & Parker pumped out 125 & 129 respectively against GWS.  Saturday night saw Ablett score another 135 while Priddis (117) & Fyfe (115) duked it out in the WA Derby.  However they all paled into comparison on Sunday when Goldy (172) and Danger (166) decided to beast things up a touch.  Well done to those Coaches that had the patience (and cojones) to jump on the Sunday options.  Just quietly……they all had an invite to the Captains Table last Friday!  Let’s see who made the Short list this time around……..in order of appearance, Times are in AEST:

Matt Priddis (WCE), Friday night 8.10pm – 2nd only to Robbie Gray for contested possessions this year, Priddis faces an out-of-sorts Richmond at home in the Friday night game.  112 & 149 in his last two against the Tigers, he looks the perfect Friday night loophole option.

**  WARNING **  Essendon play the early game on Saturday against Geelong.  So if Sam Grimley is your team’s loophole option, then the Friday game is your ONLY chance to use the Captains Loophole…..you’ve been warned!

Patrick Dangerfield (GEE), Saturday Early Afternoon 1.45pm – One of the must-haves at the moment.  If you haven’t got him yet, then you’re most likely falling behind the pack.  162 & 166 among his first three games and coming up against the Essendon Top-Ups this week.  Last time out against the Dons, Danger belted out a 157.  If you have M.King (Melb) or J.Dunkley(Dogs) in your team, then Danger looks the best of your VC options early in the Round.

Gary Ablett (GCS), Saturday Twilight 4.35pm – How good is it to have Ablett back and firing?  139, 120 & 135 from the first three Rounds, Ablett is providing a safe C each week.  In his last four Q-Clash outings, The Little Master has scored 182, 112, 150 & 129.  As always, he’ll provide solid back-up as Captain……….

Luke Parker (SYD), Saturday Night 7.40pm – Has made a blistering start to the year and is currently the 2nd-highest SC-scorer with an average of 135.33! Last two games against the Crows have produced a 114 & 131.  In rare form right now, anything is possible……….

Todd Goldstein (NTH), Sunday Twilight 4.40pm – Showed us on Sunday why he’s the most expensive player to start the year with.  Nineteen touches (15 contested) and five goals plus 38 hitouts left him with a massive 172 pts in the shootout with Melbourne.  Normally Freo would be a daunting prospect with Sandilands but he’s recovering from a punctured lung.  Since Zac Clarke is also on the sidelines, Goldy is up against the 3rd-tier Ruckman Griffin.   I reckon this could get messy for Freo……..

** WARNING ** The Coaches aren’t playing too many hard tags in this day and age, but Ben Jacobs (NTH) is certainly the exception.  Be aware that he’ll most likely stand next to Nat Fyfe on Sunday.

Honorable Mention

Leigh Montagna (STK), Saturday Afternoon 2.10pm – Reminded us all again of his SC-Beast potential with a 150 against the Pies last week.  The Hawks might seem like a hard task but Joey’s last three encounters with Hawthorn have produced a 128, 144 & 129.  The Hawks don’t often use a tag so there’s no reason Joey can’t return those sort of numbers again.

Smokey Tip

Nic Naitanui (WCE), Friday Night 8.10pm – Has hit the ton in his last five games against Richmond, the most recent being a 146.  With or without Maric, NicNat poses a huge threat to the Tigers.  A monster score wouldn’t surprise.  Perhaps an alternative VC option this week?

Who have you bestowed the big C on this week?  Let us know in the poll and comments………

  1. Dangerfield v the topups, into Goldstein v the Sandi-less Dockers for me.

Would not surprise me to see Naitanui score well tonight though.

    1. Had to do the same. I’m even tempted to raise my regular 130 guideline on this one, won’t be taking Danger’s score unless it’s 140+.

  2. Who should I put as captain out of Ablett, Hannebery, Dangerfield, Goldstein, Naitunai. I am leaning towards using the loophole with Nic Nat or Danger and if they don’t score around 135+ the c will be put on goldy.

  3. Nic Nat as the VC as it means less stress on saturday and I think he can go 140+

Danger as the C. That could get messy.

  4. im tossing up between Houli and Nic Nait as my VC on Friday. I’m inclined to go Houli as I think richmonds Defence will get a lot of the ball. T/u Houli; t/d Naitanui

  5. I’m on the Danger to Gaz bandwagon. Too good to pass up. I’ve already set a very lout alarm on my phone to check my loophole option as it’s a tight window!

  6. Well Dangerfield is averaging 164 in wins this year so hard to go past him cause I cant see them losing to Essendon
    (Obviously I’m not being serious) 😉 😉

For me its Danger into Goldy

  7. Danger VC in to Goldy for me but not expecting Goldy to be needed for the Captains role as I have a gut feeling Danger will score 150+
