  1. Pick 11 west coast eagles
hopefully west coast gets the opportunity to pick up Dom sheeds ,but i would be very surprised if sheeds is still around at pick 11 , Brisbane are interested as well .
If sheeds is not available my other choice would go to blake acres or cam mccarthy .
fingers crossed we get the underrated dom sheeds .

  2. Given that he has been nominated to drop at just about every position in the top 20, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bontempelli drop @ #1.

    Then, I’d like to see Kelly drop @ 2 followed by Billings @ 3, Aish @ 4 & Kolodsjashnij @ 5.

  3. Great write up KP, according to your logic, Pies are set to grab Acres & Dumont.
Going by your write up, they look like 2 pretty handy pick ups, that will fit into our structures & although i’m hoping that Scharenburg gets through, it sounds like Acres can potentially slot straight into the back six.

  4. I can see Matt Scharenberg being another Dyson Heppell… not so much in playing style but slipping down the order on the strength of a good rumour then shit it in for the NAB rising star.

If Dom Sheed doesn’t go to Collingwood then I’d like to see the Lions take a punt on him but I feel they’ll still go with the best available key forward which would be Cam McCarthy.

KP gave Matt Crouch an absolute bollocking didn’t he at #50? The Lions are meant to be into him as well with one of their picks in the 20’s. Really is a lottery for my boys… hope they get it somewhat right but they absolutely can not stuff up pick 7 this year!

  5. This years draft is a midfield packed draft. The talls will come in 2014.
It will be hard to know who will go from outside of the top 20. Players that we think could go from 20-30, could slide to 50, or not get selected. It is very even and teams will likely be selecting on a needs basis at this stage so bargain price mid are available later in the draft..

Good news for the Pies is that the Suns seem almost certain to take Kolodjashnij at 5, and GWS to take Boyd at 1, means the Pies will get one of Kelly, Aish, Billings, Scharenberg at pick 6.

The Lions should take best available at 7, which could be Aish or Scharenberg if the Dogs take Bontempelli at 4 (which is looking more likely).

Dees at 9 and Pies at 10 will take best available players and they will most likely be from Victoria. 2 of Salem, Freeman and Lennon. Outside chance of Sheed at this pick but it doesn’t look likely. This leaves the Weagles to grab Sheed and Richmond to take the remaining player from this group.

After this selection the pack thins. This is where the bargain hunting begins. If I was Carlton I would be hoping for McCarthy, or hoping that he was taking earlier so that they could get a player from that top group. Pick 13 – 17 though will be lined with McCarthy and yep, you heard me, more mids. We will likely see McCarthy, Taylor, Cripps, Acres, Hantung taken with these picks, but there will likely be a few suprises.

Expect St.Kilda to jump on the sliders and another mid from Dunstan, Jones and Dumont, and the Suns at 20 to take one of these, or Tom Cutler if he doesn’t get snaffled at 15 by the Swans who have shown interest.

That rounds out the top 20, let me know what you think. There has been a lot of chatter that clubs aren’t showing their hands at all, so expect suprises, and sliders. Personally I hope the pies get Aish as a real slider at 10, similar to the Grundy scenario of 2012. Note that this is mearly what I see clubs doing in this draft based on inside and outside word.
    Cheers
