The Fallen Premiums R12, 2013

Written by MJ on June 17 2013

Defenders:

Grant Birchall ($415,800; -$90,600, Ave 97.6, BE 32) Two tons in a row and Birchall is back in the good books. Will be the cheapest you’ll get him all season. I bought him last week and was not disappointed. Best you’ll get in defence at this price. Definitely pick him over Hartlett if you’ve got the choice, especially seeing as Port’s run gets pretty tough from here (Syd, Coll, Ess, Haw)

*Duffield ($490k; BE 149) and Hanley ($483k; BE 157) are still coming down in price and could be around $450-470k next week.
** Look for Goddard ($500k; BE 83) straight after his bye if you haven’t got him.

Midfielders:

Brett Deledio ($552,000; -$72,100, Ave 113, BE 67) Was voted 4th behind Cotchin, Barlow and Fyfe in our poll last week, but scored the highest of the lot on the weekend with a massive 141. He’s now averaged 132 in Richmond’s 7 wins this season. I suspect he’ll cop extra attention this week, but you’d have to strongly consider as the Tigers will start favourites in their next four games (WB, StK, Nth, GC).

Josh P. Kennedy ($544,900; -$98,100, Ave 113.1, BE 118) Great value for less than $550k, JPK is fresh off his bye and faces a nice run of games (Port, Carl, Melb, GWS). Could still drop a bit in price, but I wouldn’t hesitate picking him up this week. Kieran Jack is your alternative, averaging the same, but in only 3.5% of sides opposed to Kennedy’s 23.4% ownership.

Joel Selwood ($492,800; -$136,700, Ave 107.2, BE 87) Geelong play six games at Simonds Stadium for the remainder of the season after only hosting the one so far. The biggest drawcard for buying Selwood, is that he plays his best footy down at that venue. Before the game against GC there this season, Joel held a remarkable record of 16 straight 100s at Simonds Stadium. They play 3 SC finals games there. The only question mark is the inevitable resting and whether an injury has been affecting his first half of the season, down on his historic average.

*Cotchin ($526k; BE 143) could be around $500k next week.
**Keep a midfield spot free for Ablett, Pendles, Swan, Dangerfield or Watson if you don’t have them yet, as they look to be the best scoring midfielders (along with Griffen, but I still have my doubts on him). Grab them after their bye this week, although they will come at a price.

Rucks:

Dean Cox ($529,400; -$71,300, Ave 111.2, BE 98) Smashed out a 132 just before his bye after a relatively lean spell. Consider getting him if you didn’t start the year with him, as his BE is now under 100.

Ben McEvoy ($463,900; -$93,500, Ave 102.5, BE 106) A smokie option in the rucks (less than 5% ownership). Big Boy has maintained a 100+ average despite dropping nearly $100k this season. Consider, but has less of an impact when Hickey is played in the side.

Ivan Maric ($455,300; -$151,600, Ave 96.5, BE 79) Big Ivan hit back at the critics last week with a 124 against Sauce Jacobs, who looked very slow. A massive bargain if the Mullet can keep on belting out scores like that. A 113 average last season says he’s capable of maintaining a high output.

*Minson ($559k; BE 130), Roughead ($523k; BE 128) can be left for a week or two as their prices are set to be reduced.

Forwards:

Dustin Martin ($506,400; +$32,900, Ave 106.3, BE 119) Dropped $65k in the last month after a few quiet games. Kicked 4 goals against the Crows on the weekend to bag 126 SC points. Seems to like playing against the weaker teams and that’s what Richmond have in front of them in the next month.

*Franklin ($467k; BE 83) is also available, but I’ve harped on enough about him.
**Rockliff ($490k; BE 141) and N.Riewoldt ($512k; BE 136) will be ones to look out for soon if you don’t want to splash the cash on a Stevie J, NicNat, Walker or Bartel. Although, St Nick is playing against the hapless Dees this week, so it wouldn’t be out of the question to bring him in as a POD premium forward.

  1. Cheers MJ and well done on the ranking.
Tough decisions ahead this week. I need to trade to avoid donut but most of the upgrades I want either also have the bye(swan, shaw) or have high BE’s( Hanley , stevie j).

  2. Cheers MJ. Will decide on getting in either Selwood or D.Martin (moved to forw) this week. Leaning towards Selwood, but keen to see a vote.

Thumbs UP: Trade in Selwood – will come good in the back half.
Thumbs DOWN: Trade in Martin – has game winner written all over him.

  3. How would you rate N Riewoldt? I was expecting to see his name in there. Averaging a healthy 108 and sitting at $512k

He does have a potential drop though this week with a BE of 136

On my radar this week as a replacement for Macaffer

  4. Who’s trading omera out this week? I’ve git a couple if plans deludio or selwood. Or wait a week and get swan.
Oh the pressure is on but I’m a premiership coach who can handle it.
Must not do dumb drunk trades though.

  5. I feel that people like me aswell will have of be close to emptying the war chest this week, and then will be reliant on tbonestaker thurlow Mitchell Hutchings rowe making some money for dual trade one up one down.

One upgtrade this week will empty my chest.

  6. Nice write up MJ, I have Murphy and need to find a replacement. I think I’ll go with Kennedy. I’m thinking I’ll also bring in Mitchell and Dusty this week well.

  7. Selwood a must have this week in my opinion. Also going to bring in Hanley a week early. Leaves 1 final Midfield spot and 189k in the bank. Will wait a few weeks for Jobe and hope he knocks out a couple sub 100s before then.

  8. Martin is being considered this week

Got my eye on Bartel (BYE), Watson (BYE) and Hanley (high BE)

But I already have Cox, Rockliff, Franklin, Zorko and NicNat. Would mean a complete FWD line, but I’d miss out on Bartel

TU – Martin (Bartel will get rested)
TD – Wait for Bartel (Martin isn’t a top 5 FWD)

  10. Comment which one out of each two I should trade in:

    Cotchin or Jelwood
Kreuzer or Maric (Kreuzers round 13 bye isnt an issue for me)
    Martin or Cox

Note: If cox is the way to go, I will only be able to get Jelwood instead of Cotchin.

Thoughts would be really helpful, as I am not sure what to do

  12. Ahh having a problem choosing

I could do a couple of different trades but the end result getting a premium forward and hopefully T.Mitchell, please i need help getting to the pointy end and trades are vital as i only have 9 left..

Thumbs up – trade out M.Hutchings who still has potential, but potential to not get another game as well and J.Thurlow who still has potential as well but need the money —-> trade in T.Mitchell who is no doubt a gun of the future, and either N.Reiwoldt/D.Martin

Thumbs down – Trade out hannath who has a BE which most likely wont achieve and troy menzel who may play a third game but with his average and JS wont earn to much more money ———> Trade in N.Reiwoldt/D.Martin and jack osbourne who wont play a game but is cheap enough to get in the two mentioned above. Doing this one will make me miss out on T.Mitchell

Comment – Use 3 trades get down to 6 trades and do all 3 different trades

    Please help out cheers

  13. Crouch – Mitchell is the only trade im doing this week. I have 20 on field this week with 550k in the bank. After the bye I’m going:
    O’meara – Ablett, Dwyer – Watson.
If I have enough cash ill bring in Gibbs for Goodes or Vlastuin.

  14. Great stuff MJ. I have a couple of questions for you…

Q1. Who would be your pick out of Danger and Jobe? I am leaning Danger given recent form and the way he accelerated in 2012. Thoughts?

  15. Q2. I have Zorko which is frustrating in 2013. I see the Loins draw does ease up a little but is it time to hold him or trade him to Buddy?

  16. I wish I had gone Pittard to Ellis a while back. he is on fire. This may be the cheapest we see him again.

  18. Comments from the SCTalk Community would be great.

    This week, I’m thinking:
    Macaffer > Daniher
    Crouch > Mitchell
    O’Meara > Joelwood

    Leaves me with this team:
DEF: Hanley, Gibbs, Birchall, Duffield, Heppell, Vlastuin (Terlich, Thurlow)
MID: Ablett, Pendlebury, Selwood, Kennedy, Cotchin, Priddis, Goddard, Mitchell (Martin, Hrovat)
    RUCK: Minson, Cox (Nicholls, Rowe)
FWD: Bartel, Franklin, Cloke, Rockliff, Kennedy, Naitanui (Staker, Daniher)

    6 trades left.
    230k in the bank.
I’m looking to add either Stevie J in the mids, or switch a DPP and get in another FWD, maybe Tippett.

  20. DEF: Goddard, Hanley, Birchall, Goodes, Vlastuin, Staker (Thurlow, Plowman (Yes I still have him…)

Mid: Gablett, Swan, Pendlebury, Watson, Barlow, Gibbs, Jelwood, T. Mitchell (Hrovat, Colquohoun)

    RUC: Cox, Maric (Blicavs, Nicholls)

Fwd: Stevie J, Bartel, JJK, Nic Nat, Maccaffer, Daniher (Stringer, Rowe)

MJ, any suggestions with what I could do with 18K… in the bank? Your thoughts really would be appreciated because Im quite stuck.

Its my first year for SC, knowing nothing about footy players at the start, and I didnt make much money at the start of the season because I had many players on the field who were either out or rookies who never played..
