The Fallen Premiums R13, 2013

Written by MJ on June 25 2013

Announcement:
My Fallen Premium articles may be less comprehensive for the next few weeks as I will be travelling around Europe for the month of July. However, you can be sure I’ll be up at all sorts of crazy hours to navigate my team through rolling lockouts to keep representing SCT in the top 10 of the overall rankings.

Defenders:

Brendan Goddard ($500,900; -$40,600, Ave 104.8, BE 83) The cheapest he’s been all season, at $40k off his starting price. BJ is undoubtedly in the top 3 defenders this year alongside Gibbs and Shaw. He’s one of the very few super consistent defenders in the game, only going below 94 on two occasions in his 12 games. Came out with 129 in his last game before the bye. Goddard is in form and cheap for a man of his quality. Snap him up if you’re one of the 39% who don’t own him.

Heath Scotland ($402,400; -$133,200, Ave 83.7, BE 78) A gun of the SuperCoach game for many years, Heath has averaged over 100 in both the last two years. The aging veteran is turning 33 next month, so comes with a high degree of risk. Cheap for the potential he has, but only hit 90+ on three occasions this season from 10 games. Had to bring him up though, as he’s over $133k off his starting tag and looks to have bottomed out in price.

*You can afford to see another game from the likes of Hanley (BE 128), Duffield (BE 129) and Waters (BE 129) before making a move on one of them.

Midfielders:

Dane Swan ($578,300; -$97,000, Ave 118, BE 60) A prime candidate for your final midfield spot now that he’s had his bye. With such a low BE he’s going to rocket back over $600k. Scored 131, 148 & 149 in his last three games. Enough said.

Jobe Watson ($555,500; -$91,700, Ave 116.6, BE 133) Drops the odd game below 80, but goes very large, very often. Every one of his 8 tons have been over 120. A great price for the Brownlow medallist, if you’re convinced he won’t be distracted by the admittance of taking the banned AO drug.

Joel Selwood ($513,100; -$116,400, Ave 109.5, BE 37) Last two scores of 137 & 135 puts Joelwood back on the most wanted list. I picked him up last week and was very happy with such a strong debut as Captain. Plays 6 of his last 10 at Simonds Stadium, of which his record there is remarkable. Before his one game there this season, he’d racked up 16 consecutive tons at the venue.

*JPK and Cotchin both stiff to miss out on selection. Wouldn’t hesitate picking up Kennedy this if you’ve already got the above three players. Cotchin looks a little off at the moment, but has some nice games coming up and is a bargain at $504k if he can regain his form.

Rucks:

Patrick Ryder ($472,900; -$91,400, Ave 93.1, BE 80) Scores of 110 & 101 before his bye suggest he’d be a decent POD selection at well under $500k. Can also be selected as a forward. I’d consider, but you have to be prepared for inconsistency, with two scores of 54 this season.

Ivan Maric ($461,900; -$145,000, Ave 96, BE 64)
Knocked up scores of 124 & 91 in his last two, which show he could be returning to the Mullet we knew from last season. Has the Saints this week and I’d warrant to say that he could absolutely smash it if McEvoy doesn’t get up from his concussion last week.

*McEvoy (BE 113) could be a decent pick when that concussion affected 53 drops out of his price cycle. I’d also recommend raising the funds for NicNat, Goldstein, Minson, Cox or Roughead if you can as you can trust their output more than the above value picks.

Forwards:

Dustin Martin ($498,200; +$24,700, Ave 105.3, BE 79) Ticked under $500k for the first time since R3. Your best option this price. Back in form with 126 & 95 in his last two. Can’t argue with that.

Nick Riewoldt ($495,500; -$17,600, Ave 107.7, BE 118) Lowest score for the season is a handy 83, making him one of the most consistent forwards this year, yet he’s still in only 8.16% of sides. Can wait a week with a BE of 118, but faces his cousin Jack this week. Against the Tigers, St.Nick has only scored under 90 once in his last 10 against them.

Lance Franklin ($475,600; -$142,400, Ave 92.5, BE 67) Price is heading north, with 124 & 97 in his last two. Just working himself back into form nicely.

*If you want to spend over $500k, you can’t go past the likes of Jimmy Bartel and Andrew Walker, both sporting 110+ averages. Tom Rockliff would have to show some form before I’d recommend selecting him, but is super cheap for his potential at $464k, BE 110.

  5. Need help! Have minimal trades and need to get rid of Birchall. Can only spend up to 446K. I already have Hartlett and Hanley….

Thumbs up: Scotland (good scoring history)
Thumbs down: Adcock (super easy run)

  7. Not entirely relevant to this thread, and I am not certain if this is known about or not, but, this passed my inbox tonight and it made me l.m.a.o and reckon a few of you may appreciate as well. It is an email exchange between Travis Cloke and the CEO of Collingwood below.
Apologies if this is something that you have all seen one million times.

    Hi mate
Not sure if you’re aware but the spot you parked in today was my reserved car park. No big issue, just wanted to let you know.
    Thanks

Today I arrived for an important meeting only to find you’d taken my park. We’ve spoken about this and you promised to stop.
I’ve been pretty reasonable up until now but this is the last time. I’ve cc’d Nathan in to this email so he is aware of the issue.
I would never have pulled a stunt like this when I was playing footy.

    Gary ,
It’s my understanding that there are no reserved spots. I can hardly be held responsible for arriving earlier than you.
Also who’d you play footy for?

Listen mate, You know there are reserved car parks. That why there’s a sign on mine saying Gary Pert CEO.
I played for Collingwood and Fitzroy but that’s beside the point. STOP PARKING IN MY SPOT!!!

Guys, I really don’t have time for this.
Travis, stop parking in Gary ’s spot.
Gary , consider dialling down the exclamation points. I felt like I was reading One Direction’s fan mail.
Also Gary, what division of amateurs where those teams in?

Nathan, I played with you at Collingwood. Are you serious? It’s so hard to pick up tone in an email. Actually its hard to pick your tone in person.
Travis, you’ve heard the coach. This ends now.

I’m writing to you to put on the record an official warning forrepeatedly parking in my reserved car park.
The leadership group have been copied in as I believe this issue strikes at the very heart of what this club is about.
Another incident will result in formal disciplinary action.

    Hi Gary
Sorry, just to be clear, if I read your email right, the heart of what the Collingwood Football Club is about, is not parking in other people’s reserved car park spots?
Seems unlikely that this is what the biggest sporting club in Australia would be about. Let’s keep some perspective.
Travis, stop parking in Gary ’s spot. He seems pretty upset.

I would have thought the Collingwood Football Club stood for stealing cars from reserved spots!

    Travis
Today I came in to work to find your car in my RESERVED car park again. As I’ve explained to you repeatedly, this is a serious issue. It has now been going on for over a year.
Earlier this month I gave you a first and final warning. This latest transgression cannot go unpunished.
I’ve cc’d the Chairman in and he and I have spoken. He expects the leadership to come up with a suitable punishment.

    G’day fellas
There seems to be a bit of unnecessary heat around this issue. It’s something I want sorted out.
Gary ’s got every right to be annoyed about this. I tell you what, try parking in my car space. It wouldn’t last a bloody year. Dawes did that to me once and I knew it was an honest mistake. Still, enjoy playing at Melbourne buddy!
Anyway, I expect this sorted out fast. Not parking in someone else’s car park is at the heart of what the Collingwood Football Club stands for.
And let’s keep this quiet. If the media get a hold of this we’ll be a bloody laughing stock.
    Gary/Travis, patch things up.
Travis, Gary is very important to this club – show some respect.
Gary , Try to cut Travis some slack, it would be hard for you to understand the pressure he’s under given you haven’t played at this level. This isn’t the bloody amateurs!
    Not very happy!

Not parking in someone else’s reserved car park is at the heart of what Collingwood Football Club stands for. We all know this.
Over the past year you have repeatedly ignored this central tenant.
On behalf of the leadership group, I am writing to inform you that you will be fined the maximum allowed under AFLPA regulations: $1000.
I sincerely hope this brings an end to this serious matter.

    Fine.
Gary , there’s some loose change in the ashtray in my Hummer. There’s at least a thousand bucks in there, probably a bit more than that to be honest.
The keys are in my locker and the car is parked in that spot that has the sign that says, ‘Gary Pert CEO.’
Cheers Nick, fair cop, won’t happen again.

  8. originally planned terlich -> pendlebury (via goodes)
but now with the injury to birchall its thrown a spanner in the works!
Ive decided birchall to h.shaw leaving me with 553 to upgrade to a premo midfielder..
midfield reads: ablett, swan, watson, mundy, jpk, danger, selwood (mitchell, hrovat)
or should i go bang and get pendles leaving me with 492 to pick up a defender (playing goodes at D6)
    cheers!

  9. Tom Rockcliff doesn’t “need to show form” before being selected … he needs to not be played in the forward line which, given crazy Voss’ intelligence level, means he needs to transfer out of Brisbane. Same note applies to Hanley.

  10. With Birchall injured i need a replacement can’t decide between goddard, gibbs, or shaw.

Any suggestions which way to go.
