The Fallen Premiums R14, 2013

Written by MJ on July 3 2013

Defenders:

Michael Hibberd ($463,900; -$68,800, Ave 98, BE 101) Hasn’t been cheaper since R4. He’s the 7th highest averaging defender, but cheaper than anyone in the top 10. If you’re absolutely confident the Dons won’t go down in the drugs crisis, then he represents a decent option.

Pearce Hanley ($415,200; -$70,000, Ave 96.8, BE 124) Brisbane’s tough run of games is now over, so you’d expect the Irishman to start producing scores similar to that of his early season work. By far and away the best option for less than $420k.

Midfielders:

Josh P. Kennedy ($519,400; -$123,600, Ave 110.7, BE 120) Still holding a 110+ average, despite dropping a few poor scores of late. Sydney have got Melbourne and GWS in their next two, so expect immediate dividends if you select him now. Cheapest he’s been this season.

Trent Cotchin ($499,500; -$122,600, Ave 108.3, BE 110) Bounced back from a couple of off games with a 107 on the weekend. Has scored 119 three times, plus a 139 & 144 this season. There are only two midfielders averaging 105+ for under $500k. Sam Mitchell is the other. Came home strong to nearly pinch the Brownlow last season. Will it be a repeat?

Rucks:

Will Minson ($534,300; +$25,500, Ave 112.8, BE 103) Big Wilbur has bounced back from two uncharacteristic sub-100 games with a 125 on the weekend. This is the cheapest he’s been since R7. Get on if you’re still to fill your final ruck spot. He’s got the Giants this week, before some tougher games to come.

Ben McEvoy ($442,200; -$115,200, Ave 100, BE 94) Ridiculously cheap for a bloke averaging 100. Big Boy McEvoy is one for the penny pinchers. Smashed it with a 120 on the weekend.

Forwards:

Dustin Martin ($494,200; +$20,700, Ave 102.8, BE 132) Dusty has only had one ton in his last 5 games, yet I still see him as the best forward for under $500k. Has North Melbourne this week. I’m sure we all remember that 168pt, 4 goal breakout performance against the Roos in 2011.

Patrick Ryder ($482,200; -$82,100, Ave 93.7, BE 92) Only gone below 92 once in his last 7 games. Has Port, Dogs, Giants in his next three. Again, a Dons player, so tread with caution if you’re on the conservative side, but decent value for this price.

  1. Would love to take Hanley as it would allow me to get Goldstein instead of Minson. However will Voss continue to play him as a forward?

So I guess the question is:

    TU: Hibberd

    TD: Hanley

  2. Not really related to this topic but something that has been percolating through my head is what the SC gods would do if the Essendon players get banned just before the finals…
    Would they
    (a) give people with Essendon players a free replacement pick
    (b) Say, ‘Tough luck, thems the breaks’
    (c) If the Essendon players are banned and they lose Premiership points, also remove all SC points that have been earned by guilty players….

If option (c) was enacted it would throw the competition into turmoil but I actually think that it is the right thing to do, if they have earned big points by cheating….

    Just my 2 c

  4. Not related, but sad to see Chad Cornes, AKA Chadwick, AKA “The Chad”, hang up the boots, I liked the way he went about his footy, always went hard at the footy

  5. You’re saying that Hibberd has dropped over $60,000 yet still costs over $460,000. Surely that can’t be right. That would mean Hibberd started the season costing $520,000 !

  6. Quick question fellas, need to spruce up my Defender Bench.

Option 1 (TU): Trade Thurlow to Clisby. (Defender Bench would be Clisby, Webster. Forward Bench would be Staker, Neade)
Option 2 (TD): Trade Thurlow to Daniher via Staker (Defender Bench would be Staker, Webster. Forward Bench would be Daniher, Neade)
