The Fallen Premiums R16, 2013

Written by MJ on July 17 2013

Defenders:

Pearce Hanley ($434,700; -$50,500, Ave 98.9, BE 45) Two tons on the trot (117 & 105) makes the Irishman back in vogue. Faces up against Melbourne, Port and St.Kilda in the next three weeks. I don’t have him. Fair to say, I’m concerned.

Jack Grimes ($377,000; -$95,400, Ave 84.4, BE 67) Risky selection, but might have some merit to it at such a bargain price. Since coming back from a shoulder injury, he’s scored 72 and 92 against Sydney and Geelong. Melbourne’s draw opens up nicely from this week onwards, with Brisbane, Nth Melbourne, GWS and Gold Coast in their next four. Must be said that they’re on the road for all but the Roos game, but I don’t mind Grimesy as a POD selection. Was averaging 99.6 from 5 games before the shoulder injury, including scores of 122 and 120.

Midfielders:

Josh P. Kennedy ($497,800; -$145,200, Ave 109.5, BE 103) Back to the tons we know with a 107 against the Giants. Got to be seriously considered at this price for a guy who started the year at well over $600k. He’s the only player in the top 10 SC scorers this season (by total) to be sub-$500k.

Nat Fyfe ($476,400; -$22,400, Ave 104.7, BE 104) Cheapest he’s been all season. Back in the good books with a 108 on the weekend. Dream finals run. Much cheaper than his colleagues Barlow and Mundy. Put him on your radar.

Marc Murphy ($376,800; -$226,100, Ave 90.9, BE 102) Could not believe my eyes when I saw the Carlton skipper at such a ridiculously low price. Averages over the previous four seasons read: 112.8, 111.8, 118.0, 112.6. May have been rushed back too quickly after that facial injury, which was originally diagnosed for 4 weeks. Only missed one game after the bye and with two runs under his belt, I’d expect him to start ramping it up again for the remainder of the year.

*Deledio ($489k, BE 118) and A.Swallow ($482k, BE 118) the others I’d consider at the sub-$500k mark, but both should be cheaper next week.

Rucks:

Patrick Ryder ($483,600; -$80,700, Ave 94.9, BE 96) Not talked about much in SuperCoach circles, but just keeps going about his business very nicely. Scores in his last five games: 110, 101, 98, 99, 102. In a season with very few consistent ruck stocks, Ryder might just be a nice POD Fwd/Ruck to have in your team for finals (6.14% ownership).

*Keep an eye on NicNat ($481k, BE 149). Rumours are that he’s been playing sore. If he can get over the niggle he’d be outstanding value.

Forwards:

Dustin Martin ($466,500; -$7,000, Ave 102.8, BE 80) Finally justified his Fallen Premium selection over the last month with a massive 120 point game against the Suns. Tough run of games to come (Freo, Syd, Haw), but this may be the spark of form he needs to finish off the season strongly.

Tom Rockliff ($443,900; -$76,600, Ave 99.8, BE 25) Vossy played him as a pure midfielder last week, which is what we love as SuperCoachers. 147 points was the result. With Melbourne, Port and St Kilda in their next three, lets hope the Coach keeps him there for the rest of the year. Outstanding value, but won’t be for long with that BE of 25!

  2. Gr8 write-up as per usual, MJ.

Hope you’re having a fantastic holiday in Europe & keeping out of trouble……Like you I have Dangerfield, Stevie J & Buddy in my team, are you planning to bench them all over the next week for SJ / 2?? for Dangers & Buddy if not picked… or pull the sideways trigger on 1 or 2 of them to keep your quest for $50k going strong?

  3. The price, plus the fixture and the thought of playing him over Vlastuin. You’ve just about sold me on Grimes, MJ

  4. is it worth trading out gibbs for Fyfe?

Have Gibbs in my mid, but with an average of 99 (not to mention his last 3 average) just isnt cutting it as a premo midfielder. Any thoughts?

  6. Great write-up MJ!

Crouch —> Murphy for 40k looks so damn tempting, but part of me is hoping he continues to score poorly this season so he’ll be juicy as hell next year.

  7. Definitely locking Grimes into my team next season. Scores of 122, 80, 83, 120, 93, 13 (injured in the first 5 minutes), 72 and 93 so far.

At the start of the year I wouldn’t have thought those players in the list would be so cheeap!

  8. I was thinking of replacing dangerfield with JPK, does anyone think it is worth a punt on Murphy?

  9. As always it looks tempting with Grimes but have been burnt too many times to consider him again. Like Dylan at Richmond, he seems to find a way to get injured

  10. Hey SCT coaches,

Looking at a dpp m/f to either use on a weekly basis or bench cover depending on their opponents that week or using a loophole if possible!

    T/U….Boomer Harvey
    T/D….Andrew Walker

    Cheers 🙂

  11. Looking at 1 trade this week. I have 5 remaining with $277k in my bank
Don’t know who to trade out if I should trade B.Crouch or Thurlow.

    These are my options
    Thumbs up- Crouch- Mundy
    Thumbs down- Thurlow- Hanley

Or feel free to comment below for other players to trade in or out

    Current team
D- Goddard, Shaw, Gibbs, Heppell, McKenzie, B.Goodes (Thurlow, Clisby)
    M- Pendles, Ablett, Swan, J.Selwood, JP.Kennedy, S.Mitchell, Cotchin, T.Mitchell ( B.Crouch, Hrovat)

Ranked in the top 9,000 and averaging just above 2130
