The Fallen Premiums R7, 2013

Written by MJ on May 16 2013

Defenders:

Paul Duffield ($469,800; -$26,900, Ave 94, BE 50, BYE R11) On my ‘never again’ list after burning me badly in 2011, Duffield went to town against the Pies last week with 137 off 22 kicks! Will creep up to $500k in the coming weeks so if you want him the time is now. Consistency is not what you’ll get with him though (5 scores under 56 last year, but 8 scores of 114+), as he is susceptible to the forward tag.

Corey Enright ($465,900; -$36,500, Ave 90, BE 66, BYE R12)
113 and 100 in his last two weeks has shown why he’s been a perennial figure in the Fallen Premiums this season. Has now pushed his average back into the 90s. Only downside is he’s a candidate for resting in R10 or R11 with games against GC and GWS.

*Not much value lurking around in the defensive end this week folks. Better options are about to have their prices slashed in the coming weeks. These include:
Hartlett $498k Ave 92.1 BE 215
Birchall $494k Ave 103.3 BE 164 (particularly interested in this man)
Waters $524k Ave 97 BE 117
Gibbs $486k Ave 98.2 BE 110 (give him at least a week to settle in and make sure the hamstring is right)

Midfielders:

Josh P. Kennedy ($575,700; -$67,300, Ave 117.9, BE 100, BYE R12) Will have pleased those coaches who brought him in last week with a 143 against his old side. Rose only $4.8k this week so is still at an attractive price. As durable as they come, playing all 22 games for the last three seasons.

Brett Deledio ($544,500; -$79,600, Ave 111.4, BE 115, BYE R11) Another one you can count on for durability, Lids has missed just 4 games since his debut in R1 2005. Belted out a 163 against Port last weekend. Only in 9% of sides.

Matt Priddis ($451,500; -$136,800, Ave 91.4, BE 61, BYE R12) Don Cottagers gave a great analysis on Priddis, which I could not have said better myself: https://supercoachtalk.com/priddis/#comment-112212
Undoubtedly BUY of the round in my books.

*Plenty of elites set to be reduced this week:
Swan $628k, Ave 119.6, BE 163
Watson $576k, Ave 115.3, BE 156
Selwood $568k, Ave 113.6, BE 134

Rucks:

Jarryd Roughead FWD ($500,600; -$54,200, Ave 93, BE 57, BYE R11) This man was absolutely brilliant against Sydney, playing in the role that suits his SC scoring best and now boasts scores of 110, 117 & 126 in three of his last four games. Will towel up his next three opposition (GWS, GC, MELB) if not rested.

Darren Jolly ($458,700; -$60,000, Ave 83.8, BE 28, BYE R13) Averaged 111.3 without the game where he was subbed out, after 124 and 121 in his last two. Would be a huge POD in only 1.1% of sides. Only played two seasons with a 90+ average, so doesn’t have the track record of some of the other big boys. Had to get a shout out on current form at that price though.

*I’m hearing lots of trade talk surrounding the selling of Sam Jacobs. However, the experienced SC veterans out there will be keeping a close eye on his form. Any sign of an increase in output and he becomes an attractive BUY option at a $117k discount to R1. Last season he averaged 91.2 pre-bye and 110.4 post-bye. Just keep that stat in mind if you’re thinking of selling.
**Nic Naitanui has a BE of 225 this week. Watch with interest.

Forwards:

Lance Franklin ($459,500; -$158,500, Ave 86.1, BE 142, BYE R11) If Clarko decides not to rest big Buddy, you’d be worried not having him in your side this week. After a relative no-namer Tom Lynch (previous career best score of 80) kicked 10 sausage rolls against the Giants, its frightening to think what Franklin could do to the kids, despite the lack of form. I hope Anthony Hudson is commentating the game!

*Not many other forward line bargains to be had at the moment. Dale Thomas $452k BE 15 remains an option, however reports say he’s struggling with that ankle again. Bad news for those of us who bought him last week.
