The Fallen Premiums R9, 2013

Written by MJ on May 27 2013

Defenders:

Bryce Gibbs ($476,200; -$33,600, Ave 100, BE 111, BYE R13) With a BE of over 100, you could wait a week for Bryce, but he’s playing the Giants this week. Consider getting him back into your side if you ditched him over the hamstring complaint, as he came straight back into the team with a 109 against Brisbane.

Hamish Hartlett ($409,500; -$79,500, Ave 90.7, BE 75, BYE R11) The R11 bye may deter buyers until after R11, but he should be at rock-bottom price if he doesn’t drop another sub-50 anytime soon. Is working back into form with a 94 against Geelong. Priced to average only 81.8, but is a much better player than that.

*Defenders with high BEs:
Grant Birchall $436k, BE 157 (Will now bottom out R13)
Brent Reilly $489k, BE 151 (R13 bye makes him a post-bye trade in possibility)
Beau Waters $499k, BE 143 (If he can get fit, handy rare R12 bye defender)

Midfielders:

Marc Murphy ($519,200; -$83,700, Ave 103.3, BE 77, BYE R13) At the bottom of his price curve now, with two consecutive 100s. At this price it’s hard to ignore Murphy, as he’s been such a consistent SC gun for the last 4 years. Be wary if you’ve already got a few R13 midfield premiums.

Matthew Boyd ($505,200; -$100,600, Ave 97, BE 75, BYE R11) Matty Boyd burst back into consideration with a massive 155 against the Saints. Averaged 115.5 and 113.2 in the last two seasons, and hence has begun both 2012 and 2013 at over $600k. Started the year slowly due to a calf injury, and would be a huge POD. Could be left until after his R11 bye, but he’ll likely be at least $15k dearer. Risky option, but value at this price.

*Heaps of elite midfielders still coming down in price, including:
Josh P. Kennedy $593k, BE 150 (Purchase R13 after R12 bye)
Trent Cotchin $570k, BE 119 (Purchase R12 after R11 bye)
Dane Swan $544k, BE 176 (Hit lowest price R12, but R13 bye)
Joel Selwood $521k, BE 138 (Purchase R13 after R12 bye)

Rucks:

Ivan Maric ($472,700; -$134,200; Ave 95.6, BE 114, BYE R11) The flying mullet started the year at over $600k and kicked off the season with 4 consecutive tons. Has been average since then after struggling with an ankle complaint. Can be brought in after his R11 bye with that 114 BE, but if Berger ‘s injury is serious, consider trading in the Mullet this week.

Matthew Kreuzer ($380,000; -$114,100; Ave 78.5, BE 56, BYE R13) A cheap option in the rucks. Averaged 92.3 last season. Take out the game where he got injured early on in R3, and his average this year is 94. Wouldn’t expect a 100 average, but he’s great value at this price.

*Big boys to be cheap soon:
Ben McEvoy $527k, BE 176 (Get him R13, after R12 bye)
Todd Goldstein $582k, BE 168 (Same goes for Goldy)
Patrick Ryder $550k, BE 137 (Rare BYE R13 RUC/FWD)

Forwards:

Lance Franklin ($453,700; -$164,300, Ave 89.8, BE 68, BYE R11) Looked terrible in the first half of Sunday’s game, absolutely out of sorts. The second half was the Buddy of old, finishing the game with 5 goals, and looked to have his confidence back. History says he finishes seasons better than he starts.

Tom Hawkins ($381,500; -$127,300, Ave 78.5, BE 44, BYE R12) Your value forward option this week, and would be a sneaky pick with Gold Coast and GWS next up. Averaged 94.8 last season. Take away the game in R20 where he was red vested in Q1, the Tomahawk averaged 113 from R14-R23 in 2012.

*Forwards to be reduced:
Nick Riewoldt $584k, BE 174 (Purchase R13 after R12 bye)
Tom Rockliff $527k, BE 165 (Purchase R13 after R11 bye)
Andrew Walker $503k, BE 149 (Hit lowest price R12, but R13 bye)

  1. I really want Birchall after his bye

  2. Boys I have watched a couple of games one A Goodes has played.

He looked fit and firing against the Pies on the weekend and when he played our boys was going along nicely as well.

He seems to be hitting his straps is playing a lot more in the midfield reckon a bargin at 450,000 k roughly I think.

He can pump out some big scores.

  3. If Leuy’s injury is serious, who would i trade him out for? I have the Big Mullet already, 220k in the bank.

  4. Great write up as usual MJ.

With the timing of quite a few premiums bottoming out around their byes, I’m looking at building up a war chest over the next two rounds to make 3 upgrades after R11 and 2 after R12 to take advantage of the 3 trades per week anomaly.

  6. Can’t decide who to trade in Gibbs or Goddard, Goddard would leave me no cash in the bank.

    T/H – Goddard

    T/D – Gibbs
