The Fallen Premiums – Rd 19

Written by Chillo on July 31 2019

Unless your name is e=mchammer (go you good thing!), by now the focus for your 2019 Supercoach campaign has switched to leagues. That’s right kids, it’s that most wonderful time of the year, Finals time! If you’ve been lucky/skilful enough to have some trades remaining, then there are a few interesting options for this first week of the big dance. For those of you in elimination finals, there may be no tomorrow, so I strongly encourage you to spend those trades as you see fit.

Here are the Fallen Premiums!

DEFENDERS

Jeremy HOWE (COL), $356 300 (-$140.9K), avg 77, BE 24 – Strange old season from the high-flying Howe, who started well but never reached the heights of previous years. Jeremy suffered a calf complaint against the Dogs in Round 10 and missed a couple of games, but has returned with scores of 90 and 100. Howe has averaged 90+ in each of his past three seasons, and is crazy cheap for someone with that history. Definitely a budget wildcard option for that D6/D7 loop.

MIDFIELDERS

Touk MILLER (GCS), $422 300 (-$60.1K), avg 85, BE -3 –  The cornerstone of the Suns’ midfield, Touk has struggled with a lingering heel injury for most of the season, but has bounced back strongly in the past fortnight with scores of 122 and 134. Beautifully priced for a bench cover option in the midfield, a healthy Miller shapes as reliable back-up if (when) one of your guns goes down – an early holiday for Nat Fyfe, anybody???

It’s Miller Time! Yeah, that’s what I said.

Andrew GAFF (WCE), $512 800 (-$74.6K), avg 106, BE 69 – If you’re looking for a bonafide premium scorer for the engine room, Gaff is the man this week. The Eagles have a nice run home and are firing at the right end of the season. The ever prolific wingman is averaging 32 touches a game in 2019, and has only had two scores below 89. Scores of 114 and 124 in the past two weeks translate to a low break-even and a prime candidate for that final mid upgrade.

RUCKS

Eight ruckmen scored 110+ in round 19, including 148 from Fallen Premiums favourite Big Boy McEvoy ($494K, avg 97). But with no notable injuries in the ruck department this week, is anyone really planning to trade on this line?

FORWARDS

Tom J LYNCH (RIC), $435 400 (+$9.8K), avg 70, BE 13 and Tom HAWKINS (GEE), $389 800 (-$163.1K), avg 90 BE -10 Massive, massive weekend just gone for the two Toms, who each dobbed five majors and posted huge Supercoach tons. From a footy standpoint, I’d love to see a shootout between these two on the final Saturday in September. But until then, both men are high risk, high reward options for your forward line over the next four weeks. Both men are exceptionally mobile for their size, and are masters of the contested mark, with Lynch leading the league in that particular stat this year. Take your pick!

  1. Initially I was thinking L Ryan & Ziebell to Hurn & C Daniel. Now I might go Howe & Marshall.

What does the SCT community think?
    TU: Hurn + C Daniel
    TD: Howe + Marshall

  2. Howe is incredible value as a Ryan replacement. Save some coin to use elsewhere might be a good approach.

    1. When I was writing this, I actually put Simpson’s name at the top and started to write him up. But looking at his scores, he’s really only posted a good number against Adelaide, who are pathetic at the moment, and Carlton have some really tough opponents coming up. If he was sub-400K I would seriously consider him, but I think there’s better value elsewhere this week.

  3. Looking at Gaff as my MCrouch upgrade, allows me to upgrade my fwd bench cover. Or just go Bont and upgrade BSmith.

TU: MCrouch & Chol > Gaff & Hawkins ($22.8k/3 trades)
    TD: MCrouch & Smith > Bont & Laird/Rampe/Rich ($106k – $55k/ 3 trades)

      1. Id keep crouch and look at other areas of your team.

Going out on a limb and saying crouch will average 105 odd from here on

        1. Also, smith is playing better than laird right now. Laird needs the 30+ disposals to tonne most of the time. He has been down this year

              1. They’ve got a couch that can assess injuries?? Wow! They sure do things differently at Sydney.

  4. Have got both laird and sicily in the backline and neither are firing at the moment, looking to upgrade one to whitfield.

    T/U: Trade Laird
    T/D: Trade Sicily

    cheers!

    1. Agreed. I’m seriously considering doing the unthinkable and trading M. Crouch to Selwood and using the cash for Ryan into Rich.

      TU: Worth the risk
      TD: Totally nutters

      1. the big risk is having too many cats
1 of danger , kelly , ablett or selwood will probably get dropped for the GF
unlikely to miss top 2 spot on the ladder
scott might even rest em all for the fantasy GF
i know i would in their position

        1. More than likely to be rested in rounds 20 to 22.

Being rested in round 23 would mean every chance being that the Cats player would play only once over a 5 week period should Geelong win the Qualifying Final.

  6. 4 trades left but no cash so thinking of turning Chol into JJK. Would loophole him with Westhoff for the rest of season.

West Coast have Carlton this week too so could be a big score for JJK now he’s found some form. Adelaide (H), Richmond (A) and Hawthorn (H) follow.

TU – good option in circumstances
TD – bad option, waste of trade

  7. I know M Crouch has been frustrating but he is still finding the ball and doesn’t get tagged. I can see him pumping out 120’s again, starting this week after what they have copped. Yes he kicks backwards and doesn’t get the hard ball but if his DE gets back to what it should be he is more reliable than the Selwoods of this world.
Stick Phat I say unless you can afford someone near 600k

    1. has inform Saints @ home
      WC away
Pies @ home ( good record interstate )
WB @ Metricon in the Grand Final
probably just perform @ his price point imo

    2. A bit flippant regarding selwood , one is a champion and the other one has a long way to go yet.
You said it all ,kicks backward and doesn’t get a hard ball.

      1. Yes but it isn’t about how good a player they are is it?
I’m not knocking the way Selwood plays, it’s about where and how the coach uses him at this stage of his career. Crouch lines up in the centre every game. Selwood could be on a flank, wing or even ‘managed’.
