The Fallen Premiums Wk 2 Finals, 2013

Written by MJ on August 19 2013

If you’ve got the luxury of having trades in your back pocket this week, run your eyes over this lot:

Defenders:

Heath Shaw ($425,600; -$115,700, Ave 95.7, BE 163)
Heater has really spudded it up in the first two weeks of SC finals with scores of 64 and 37. As a result, there is now only one defender averaging 100+ in Brendan Goddard. The better sides seem to be able to shut him out of games with the hard tag, with his 5 lowest scores all up against top 8 sides. West Coast (MCG), North (MCG) to finish.

Grant Birchall ($416,300; -$90,100, Ave 93.5, BE 112) Birchall’s first game back from a PCL injury was a promising one. He looked right at home off the half back line returning with a 106. We’ve experienced the ups and downs of the Birch this season. Will he be up or down for the last two weeks? That’s for you to decide. North (Etihad), Sydney (ANZ) in his last two.

Midfielders:

Jobe Watson ($501,200; -$146,000, Ave 111.7, BE 77) Jobe’s come back from his collarbone injury to score three very consistent tons of 115, 118 and 116, despite the distraction of the drugs controversy. Would have no hesitations of snapping him up this week. Carlton (MCG), Richmond (MCG).

Josh P. Kennedy ($458,400; -$184,600, Ave 106.5, BE 55)
It’s been a long, long wait for JPK owners like myself, but he’s finally delivered in the form of a 136 point dividend last week. He was by far and away Syndey’s best midfielder, with Jack, ROK and Hannebery all way under average. Geelong (Simonds), Hawthorn (ANZ). Has an incredible knack of smashing it against his former side the Hawks, with 173, 126 and 143 in his last three against them.

Rucks:

Ivan Maric ($468,600; -$138,300, Ave 96.4, BE 74) Gave him a wrap up last week, and he duly delivered. He’s back in form at the right time of the season for the Tigers, with 110, 99 and 118 in his last 3 games. GWS (Skoda), Essendon (MCG) to come. Worth noting, that in his only game against the Giants he dominated with 146 points.

Forwards:

Andrew Walker ($475,900; +$52,500, Ave 105.3, BE 102) After a dip in form resulting in scores of 83 and 85, Walker hit back with 110 against the Tiges on Saturday. He’s the third highest averaging forward in the game behind Stevie J and Rockliff, who are both priced at over $550k. Essendon (MCG), Port (AAMI). That game against Port will be the decider for 8th spot if the Blues win and Port loses this week!

Jimmy Bartel ($452,800; -$74,600, Ave 104.5, BE 85) Jimmy bounced back from 4 sub 100s with a massive 135 against West Coast! I’d be worried if I didn’t own Bartel going into my last two games. You can get the 5th highest averaging forward for just over $450k. Sydney (Simonds), Brisbane (Simonds). Two games at the Cattery should serve him well.

Cyril Rioli ($373,600; -$153,700, Ave 87.4, BE 79) One for the penny pinchers and the risk takers among us. Who knows what we’ll get from him?! I’d only go for him as a last resort considering some of the scores he’s thrown up recently. North (Etihad), Sydney (ANZ).
