The Movers

Written by Motts on August 4 2010

Motts has decided to shelve the Movers for the SC Finals series. I figure you’re either looking at rookies to downgrade to (in which case Big Sexy is your biggest help) or premiums to upgrade to (in which case you’d already know who you’re after).

One bloke that I did look at for my own backline this week though was Michael Johnson of Freo. Last 3 weeks: 151, 99, 113. He’s only $418k (which is about all I can afford) and has fresh legs after a 6 week break – something to do with an energy drink ๐Ÿ˜‰ – what are your thoughts?

I will continue with the random polls. Still prepared to take suggestions if you’ve got ’em.

  1. Instead of Motts’ Movers, I need Motts’ Miracle Makers!

I haven’t suggested a poll yet, so here goes: How about a poll on mid-priced DPPs? I’m kicking myself for not having recognised the DPP benefits even when pointed out ad nauseum during the season. I have plenty in the Bs and Fs but no one in the Cs to swap them with (chuck in a Homer “Doh!” there, if you like). I have bugger all cash so am looking at the likes of Houli, Higgins, Carrazzo, Davis, Gram, Doughty, Brennan, Greenwood. Depending on injuries, they may have to be in the 22 but hopefully will only be needed for useful bench coverage. I’ve narrowed it down to 3 but would be interested in the opinions of the SCT readership.

      1. I like the sound of the Best M/F – I need a good M/F in my team although I already have BBBB!

        I am specifically looking for a M/F or M/D – don’t care which.

          1. It’s time for me to bring in Didak and Riewoldt, so it’s time to go either JPod, ROK, or Grundy. Decisions decisions.

Is it best to trade and make sure you win the quailifying final or save the trade and risk losing because you’ve got a second chance?

          1. It is a HUGE risk. Anything can happen especially in the turbulent final rounds. Of course, you could cruise through without a drama but you would be kicking yourself if you didn’t have the cover and really needed it. This is cut-throat, remember, except for the top 4 in week 1. The only reason not to have bench cover is if you have DPP cover.

          1. If your backline players don’t have like constant hammy problems or something like that then you would prob not need any benches for your backline.

        1. I might have bench cover Jonesy it depends if Roberton or Schoenmakers get named.
My backline is Goddard Hodge Malceski Lake Kelly Waters and Hunt. Lake and kelly are not in my team yet though. They are gonna be my trades for Maguire and Bradley sheopard. Then my bench will be Schoenmakers and Roberton. Thanks mate please reply.

  5. Joel MacDonald (Melbourne) 398,300. Last 3: 113, 108, 87. He’s starting to find some some and he has a reasonably easy run home barring Hawthorn (Richmond, Hawthorn, Port and North) I have been watching this guy all year and he has finally racked up two tonnes. A good cheaper option.

    1. Gilbert hasn’t really been setting the world on fire (avg for last 3 rnds = 60 vs Carrazzo’s 58). He’s got a good history, though, not unlike Enright (who has also sucked recently) for scoring potential and around the same price.

    1. Get rid of either Rock or Fyfe, because theres no use of that much coin sittin on the pine. Then u might have enough for the Swann trade.

  9. Despite the meeting with Collingwood being one of the most anticipated matches of the season, Thompson isnโ€™t about to shelve his plan to continue resting some of his men in the lead-up to the finals.

โ€œIf we have some players who have got minor injuries, weโ€™ll pull them out again,โ€ Thompson said.

โ€œItโ€™ll be like business as usual for us. Weโ€™re pretty healthy, though, at the moment.โ€

Joel Corey (knee), Paul Chapman (knee) and Cameron Ling (toe) are all under an injury cloud, but Thompson doesnโ€™t expect theyโ€™ll need to be rested.

  10. While a number of players received knocks on the weekend, including captain Cameron Ling (toe), Joel Corey (knee), Mathew Stokes (calf), Paul Chapman (knee) and Josh Hunt (calf), they have all been given the green light for Saturday night at this stage.

  12. Looking at all the SCT posts over the last few days i have come to a conclusion. There are alot of people stressing, panicking, fretting, over-analysing this weeks round. Yes, it is SC finals. Yes, it is important you win. No, you don’t have to trade this week. I just thought i’d chuck it out there into cyberspace that you do have an option of holding onto your trades confident in the team that’s got you this far and save your trades for injury cover.

Reading posts of people with one trade left that they’re going to use up makes me laugh. These posts should start with a preface. “Hi, my team’s struggling and i’ve wasted all my trades already and i’m going to blow the last one now too”.

FYI. 3 trades left and keeping my powder dry this week (provided Bomber and Micky don’t play silly buggers and rest GAJ, Enright, Swanny and Dids .. then, and only then, i will enter the trade arena).

  13. I’ll have both Goodwin and Hurn on the pine this week. Was going to use my 2 trades to get Riewoldt and Didak. Now I’m thinking one of my injured backs will have to go to at least give me some cover otherwise will have to play Smith and Webberley. My only saving grace is that my opponent this week (my boss!) also has Goodwin and Hurn so he’s in the same boat! And we both have Rioli on the pine too. Ahh office politics!
