The Ressies Recap – Rd 10

Written by on May 31 2018

Plenty of whispers around about a few of the players featured in this weeks recap. Expect some of these to appear on the team sheets around 6:30 tonight!
If there’s anyone I haven’t mentioned that you’d like to hear about, please let me know in the comments.

FREMANTLE: Peel went down by four goals to East Freo, but Stefan Giro (102K mid) with 34 disposals, Taylin Duman (186K def) with 25 and Michael Apeness (154K fwd) with 20 touches and 32 hitouts, all put themselves in the mix for the senior squad. Harley Bennell (254K fwd) was reportedly very impressive in limited game time with 16 possessions and a goal, and can’t be far away from his long-awaited return to the top flight.

WEST COAST: Luke Partington (219K fwd) with 33 disposals was the best for East Perth in their loss to Swan Districts. Don’t expect many changes at the Eagles though, they really are flying right now!

ADELAIDE: The Crows SANFL team were well beaten by Wests, but Curtly Hampton (332K mid) was one of the best afield with 23 possessions and three goals. Reilly O’Brien (208K ruc) put himself in the frame if Sauce Jacobs needs a rest (and a few of his owners would say he does), compiling 40 hitouts.

PORT ADELAIDE: The Magpies were comprehensively thumped by North Adelaide, but Jasper Pittard (434K def) still managed to rack up 30 possessions. One to keep an eye on for the draft leagues.

SYDNEY: The Swans twos upset the Lions and Nic Newman (454K mid) was again impressive, with 29 disposals and a couple of goals; still seems to be out of favour as far as senior footy goes though. Darcy Cameron (124K ruc) had a great battle with Archie Smith and probably shared the points on the day.

GWS: Isaac Cumming (124K def) and Jeremy Finlayson (335K def/mid) responded to their omissions by racking up a collective 58 disposals and 4 goals. The third member of the demoted Giants rookies, Lachie Keeffe (158K def/fwd) had 14 touches and a goal.

BRISBANE: Tom Bell (287K fwd) has spent the season monstering the NEAFL, and recorded 42 possessions and a goal this time out against the Swans. Ryan Bastinac (434K mid) managed 30 disposals, and Ben Keays (378K fwd) had 27.

GOLD COAST: Just like their senior brethren, the Gold Coast’s NEAFL side had the weekend off.

CARLTON: Jarrod Garlett (200K fwd/mid) recorded 18 possessions, but unfortunately there are no easy answers here for the Blues’ woes.

FOOTSCRAY: Playing as the lone ruck agrees with Tom Campbell (344K ruc), who dominated with 72 hitouts. Will Bevo look to fight fire with fire when faced with the Gawndog?

RICHMOND: Sam Lloyd (390K fwd) was highly impressive with 33 possessions and 4 goals, as was Jacob Townsend (275K fwd) with 21 touches and two goals. These two may get a look-in if Jack Riewoldt doesn’t come up from his Carlisle-induced concussion.

NORTH MELBOURNEPaul Ahern (124K mid/fwd) may well get the call we’ve all been waiting for this week, after recording 22 possessions against the Hawks. Nick Larkey (124K fwd) and Cameron Zurhaar (219K fwd) booted nine majors between them.

COLLINGWOOD: Sam Murray (334K def) reacted to his dumping from the senior team with 22 disposals and plenty of rebound footy. Tall defender Brody Mihocek (102K def) spent some time forward and managed a couple of goals to go with 15 possessions.

GEELONG: Sadly Esava Ratugolea looks gone for the season, and mature-age rookie Ryan Abbott (124K ruc) may be the man to replace him after his 20 possession effort against Williamstown. Cult figure Wylie Buzza (261K ruc/fwd) also put his hand up with two goals and 16 disposals.

CASEY (Melbourne): The Demons are sweeping all before them, but Dom Tyson (386K mid) kept his name in the mix with 35 disposals and two goals in a win over Port Melbourne. Off-season recruit Harley Balic (253K mid/fwd) continued his good goal kicking form with another three snags.

BOX HILL HAWKS: 26 possessions and two goals for Daniel Howe (333K mid), and 23 touches for Teia Miles (206K def/fwd) were the highlights for the Hawks in their loss to the Roos.

SANDRINGHAM (St Kilda): David Armitage (271K mid) lacks foot speed but is still more than quick enough for the VFL, racking up 39 possessions in Sandy’s win over Werribee. Young swingman Josh Battle (124K fwd) kicked three goals.

ESSENDON: Darcy Parish (380K mid/fwd) recorded 28 possessions, but suffered a broken thumb and will now miss a couple of months. Aaron Francis (220K def/fwd) had 19 disposals and may be in line for a promotion to the Bombers backline.

  1. Hey Chillo, do you know if Lachie Murphy got near it? Wouldn’t mind him coming back in to get a bit fatter before I cull him at his bye!

    1. 17 touches, which was fourth highest in a well beaten team, and included 7 I50s. The Crows have some big names due back soon, so I’m afraid it doesn’t look good for Murphy. BUT given their run with injuries this year, you just never know!

  2. Perfect week for Scott to bring Ahern in. He’d play two games then have his bye and we can all pick him up then. Do it Brad!!!

  3. Thanks Chillo.

I’m really starting to look forward to this post.

    Fingers crossed on Ahern.

He would fit into my Bye plan nicely. 🙂
