The Ressies Recap – Rd 15

Written by on July 5 2018

Here’s all the latest from a BYE-FREE! round of the state leagues. Did I miss anyone you’d like to hear about? Let me know in the comments below.

FREMANTLE: Harley Bennell (255K fwd) watch: 21 possessions and a goal, could this be the week Freo finally call up Harley? Taylin Duman (198K def) racked up 31 disposals and chipped in with a goal, while Sean Darcy (432K ruc) is a draft league special after his 31 hitouts and three goals.

WEST COAST: Speaking of big men in the West, Nathan Vardy (373K ruc) was immense with 57 hitouts and two goals, and may be the answer to the Eagles’ forward line woes. Dom Sheed (375K mid) led all possession getters with 34.

PORT ADELAIDE: Jack Watts (331K fwd) had 18 possessions and kicked two goals in a loss to Norwood, while there was no joy for the 22% of coaches who still own Dom Barry (182K mid), who could only manage 11 touches for the day.

ADELAIDE: Rory Atkins (336K mid) and Patrick Wilson (105K mid/fwd) both responded brilliantly to being dropped from the senior team, accumulating 60 disposals between them, despite a big loss to Sturt. Lachie Murphy (205K def) had 10 touches and a goal.

GOLD COAST: Kade Kolodjashnij (371K def) is waging an ongoing war with concussion, but he looked great in compiling 31 disposals and 14 marks across halfback. Will Brodie (188K mid) had his regulation 29 possession effort.

GWS: Nick Shipley (117K mid) had a big day with 26 disposals and three goals, while Adam Kennedy (217K def/mid) continued to build back into form with 26 touches of his own.

BRISBANE: The ever-consistent Ben Keays (378K fwd) with 28 touches, and Liam Dawson (124K def/fwd) with 32, were the best for the Lions in their loss to Sydney.

SYDNEY: Nic Newman (405K mid) is surely going to start trade rumours soon, after yet another 30 possession performance against the Lions. Darcy Cameron (124K ruc) was typically prolific, this time with 17 disposals and 46 hitouts.

CASEY (Melbourne): Explosive midfielder Oskar Baker (117K fwd) had his best game of the season in a 34 possession effort against the Bombers. Bernie Vince (291K def) responded to his surprise dumping with 25 disposals, while Tim Smith (224K fwd) recorded 20 touches and a goal.

CARLTON: Matthew Lobbe (253K ruc) had a great battle with Roughead, logging 12 disposals and 40 hitouts. Promising young forward Patrick Kerr (192K fwd) managed 13 touches and a couple of goals.

COLLINGWOOD: Sam Murray (334K def) is still in 16% of Supercoach teams, and he amassed another 25 touches in the Pies’ loss to Williamstown. Father-son favourite Callum Brown (304k mid/fwd) had a great game with 31 touches and two goals.

ESSENDON: Young ball magnets Dylan Clarke (124K mid/fwd) and Kobe Mutch (164K mid) were at it again, accumulating 24 disposals each.

BOX HILL HAWKS: The Hawks have struggled to score recently, but James Cousins (214K mid) keeps finding the footy, managing 26 possessions. Pre-season fancy James Worpel (143K mid) had 20 touches and kicked a couple of majors.

FOOTSCRAY: Jordan Roughead (333K ruc) has been very reliable all season in the VFL, this time amassing 40 hitouts, 14 possessions and a goal up against Matt Lobbe.

NORTH MELBOURNE: Recap favourite Braydon Preuss (347K ruc) smashed out 60 hitouts and 18 possessions against Coburg. Mature age rookie Alex Morgan (124K def) recorded 24 possessions, as did backup forward Cameron Zurhaar (213K fwd).

SANDRINGHAM (St Kilda): Sandy had a big win over Port Melbourne, and Tom Hickey (446K ruc) was utterly dominant with 34 disposals and 59 hitouts! Nathan Freeman (124K mid) and Ed Phillips (226K mid) had 20 touches each, and Logan Austin (271K def) recorded 17.

GEELONG: Scott Selwood (420K mid) and Jamaine Jones (160K fwd) have each earned themselves recalls to the top flight this week after solid games against Werribee.

RICHMOND: The Tigers are good at footy, but have been bad for Supercoach this year, and the VFL side is a similar story. Small forward Shai Bolton (243K fwd) was probably the best of them with 22 disposals and a goal.

I hope not… I want him to still be cheap next year!
