The Riewoldt Trade

by Motts on April 12, 2010

Looks like Roo is going to be out for significantly more than 3 weeks. You can’t afford to leave him on the bench so who are you going to bring in for him?

I’m actually considering trading for Rockliff (depending on if he gets named this week) and then using the banked cash to upgrade a midfielder next week after the values of the rooks I have in the guts go up again.

Brownie is clearly the best choice and also his price is still alright .Or you could go for a cheaper player such as Dangerfield or Murphy and bank a little cash for later.

You’re not alone Scratcher. I have a massive trading problem too. My shrink suggested I get on to Dream Team first thing on a Monday morning and make my trades there. That way my SC team (which I care much more about) goes unscathed til later in the week. Give a try, works for me!

I’m on the same program. Made 2 DT trades this morning, ditto last Monday morning.

As for ROO……I am thinking about this potentially audacious trade

Roo/Gia for Chappy & Grundy or Rioli or
Roo/Med for Grundy & Rioli

I’ve used 3 trades and think I can use this situation to increase my overall points, gain another 100pt averge. Then I can use the remaining 15 on upgrades/injuries.

That’s a lot of trades early! Very risky.

I’ve been caught out previously. You think it’s enough to cover. You say to yourself, no trades for the next 3 weeks. Then another key player goes down the next week, and you’re constantly stuck with rookies and out of form players on the park. It’s a slippery slope!

I don’t disagree with you, Brad. I have one enforced change, the other is an idea that may or may not be beneficial. I am considering my options and may go a Roo for Chapman/JB/Rioli or Grundy trade. There is plenty of time before selection.

Got JB last week, in the get Tippett outta here fiasco. Now confused on who the best option would be. I like the idea of putting in Rioli / Grundy / Ballentyne and pocketing cash for a Midfield upgrade. But I think I need a safe consistant performer as I already have HAll and Franklin .. So Pavlich or Chapman..?

So confused..

Dangerfield cleared of neck fracture April 12, 2010 – 11:01AM

Adelaide young gun Patrick Dangerfield will have further scans on an injured neck but has been cleared of fractures.

Dangerfield spent Sunday night in a Melbourne hospital after being crunched in a gang tackle as the Crows lost to the Demons at the MCG.

The 20-year-old has been cleared of any fractures to his neck by initial CT scans but will have further scans on Monday, the Crows said.

Adelaide will also assess the extent of injuries to key trio Nathan Bock (hamstring), Kurt Tippett (ankle) and Trent Hentschel (knee) on Monday after all were hurt during the Melbourne loss

Still not sure how much emphasis to put on the MPP thang. Got all week to think about it, I guess.

Which Options is best? (dream team prices)

Brennan / Ballantyne + 51,500 cash
Brennan / Grundy + 19,000 cash
PAV / Ballantybe + 19,400 cash
Rioli / Grundy + 37,100 cash
Boomer / Ballantyne
Boomer / Grundy

Too many options…

Waite.
Stanton.
Roo.
Bock.
(seaby crap but will keep)
and i am absolutely shitting myself i didnt do waite + bock to malceski + brown last week but kept 2 trades free….
oh well, at least gray is back

the most likely trades i think will involve Bock or Stanton or Roo

Stanton good start to season, worried about two below 90 scores
Stanton + Roo -> Rioli/Brennan + Judd + ?

Bock + Stanton -> Malceski + Judd?

Roo + Bock -> Malceski / Rioli?

But I’m not sure if I should make two trades again this week.
Really wanna trade Campbell Brown for Malceski despite losing 48k on it.
Also undecided whether to trade Buchanan for Peterson to make a ton of cash and strengthen my lacking forwards.
Or Crowley for Bastinac to gain cash too.
Which one do you guys think? Or should I just make the one trade?

Already got ROK and Big Jono Brown so I was leaning towards Chapman then I saw the Pavalator get his Dockers over the line so now I am unsure…
Don’t have any Collingwood players in my side so could also go for a Didak or Davis which would give a little extra cash in the bank….

Should I hold off on trading Mitchell for Ablett? I’ve got the money to do it without using any other trades. I’d usually keep Mitchell because he is a premium, but I’m up against my mate first up who’s ranked in the early 600′s overall, he’s got no Ablett and there would be nothing better if I could shut him up early in the year.

SC doesn’t reward a player who kicks it less than 40m to a contest. I’ve been scratching my head at how Mitchell can have so many disposals but not rack up the big scores and I reckon that might be the reason why. Having seen the Hawks’ last 2 matches I can certainly vouch for him being the king of the short chip.

im thinking of doing something a little diffrent

trade riewoldt for fev
and then trade medurst for cyril rioli

i think that fev will pull out some big performance seeing that all the attention is on jono brown and you just cant see medurst getting the big points you rarely see him when you watch a collingwood game and fev has already gone down 50 thousand.

the other option is not to trade anyone i already have a average of 2239
and the person that im playin this week has a sub 2100 average and im pretty confident that i will come up with a win

that is wat is going through my head at the moment wat is your opinion

Reiwoltd is a premium, swap him for another premium. that is someone who will average 100+, not miss games and be in the top 10 forwards by years end. Medders will make money at some point – keep. Rioli in the same bracket as higgins chapman – they miss games.

not sure where the love for Medders comes from as the only season he’s averaged over 61 is 2008 with 88 (his current BE.) Can’t see him getting anywhere near 450K as this will take three consecutive good scores. More likely Mick will lose patience and play McAffer IMO.

I was all ready to jump on Heath Grundy to try and grab some cash for the Tippett trade in the rucks to Sandilands but with the sharp decline in Tippett’s price I’m left in a little bit of a quandry. Using some form of SC logic I’ve come up with the following…

Scenario 1:

I trade in Jared Brennan for Riewoldt given that his price did not rise and will rise next week given that he maintains his current 111 average against the Dogs, a team that he generally goes well against and gain a possible premium forward in the process but could be a risk with the week suspension just served.

Scenario 2:

I trade in Grundy, Murphy, Rioli, Riemers or anyone else around the 400,000-425,000 mark and take a bigger risk assuming that these guys will continue their current form and avoid injuries well into the season.

This of course ties in with a Tippett trade in my ruck division.

If I go with Scenario 1 the Tippett trade is wide open given the ruck division’s prices as it gives me a choice of Kruezer, Jamar, Ottens…and about 10 others if I trade this week

BUT

if I hold off trading him and use Warnock off the bench for one week (Tippett’s price won’t decline any further and Robbie is due for a big one) I would be able to afford Dean Cox when his price drops the required $25000 next week who appears to be on the improve after a slow start to the season.

Scenario 2 means I could trade Cox or Drew Petrie in this week for Tippett and gain a premium ruckman (albeit with Cox being due for another price decrease) or DPP in the process.

Gut feeling tells me to go with Scenario 1. Would anyone in their right mind think trading in Cox next week to offset Tippett would be a good idea? And better yet does anyone have idea what he’d need to score to avoid dropping a further $25000 this weekend?

I’m contemplating trading Riewoldt out for Carl Peterson, then trading Shuey for Daniel Cross to even out the differences in points scores. It’s basically trading Riewoldt for Daniel Cross and Shuey for Peterson, so maybe a waste of two trades? I just don’t know… will make up my mind on Friday…

I already have Brown, Chapman, Franklin (lets hope he gets off), BBBH, Murphy, etc in my forward line. O’Keefe is my alternative.

I might do Riewoldt for O’Keefe just to save on the one trade.

who would you trade for roo and dangerfield.

I was thinking of trading roo for cyril rioli then trading dangerfield for higgins whats everyone’s thoughts on the trades???

After this my forward line would be: Brown, ROK, Chapman, Higgins, Rioli, Grundy and Ziebell

i have $300 left over

I like it Pete. That would pretty much be your forward line sorted for the rest of the year.

Averaged 91 last year and rarely has a shocker so he was one of my first players picked.

Hi all, I’m considering 2 possible trades. Any comments appreciated.

1. Riewoldt ->Peterson & Martin->GAJ
Was always going to get GAJ in at some stage and the money from Riewoldt allows that now. Will stop me agonising over a captain every week too. Already have Bartell,J Selwood,Barlow,Gibbs,Mitchell so mids would be pretty sorted. 3 cats but 3 of the next 4 are at skilled so they should do very well.
Forwards would need a bit of work later. Would have JB, ROK, Ballantyne, Hall, Gian, Ziebell, Peterson, Hitchcock, Gumb.
Defense all good, Ruck a shambles.

2. Riewoldt -> Rioli/Higgins/Brennan
Only uses 1 trade and can save the money to upgrade to GAJ in the next few weeks. Hes looking good atm though. Dont look like he will drop much in price anytime soon.

I love Option 1. AWESOME midfield that would set you up for the year. Not a bad forward line either. Certainly serviceable and will pick up in value a lot.

Thanks for that, was going to take a very good argument to talk me out of getting GAJ in.

Trying to incorporate a trade downgrade of roo with an upgrade for M Clarke to Sandi which eliminates alot of the options for the former. I know you’ve traded him for crooze however my first SC rule is don’t trade a premium unless its an LTI. Are you convinced the Clarke success story from last year was an aberration due to rucking alone or is he trying to find his niche and will get back to 100+ ave?

I’d like to put one out there that three weeks age would have had considerable merit but now sounds silly enough that he wasn’t considered in the ballot above.
Robbie Gray
I know the potential pitfalls of back related hamstring injury however given the medicos have insisted on three rounds out, I think the upside of a breakout player in the midfield and proven goalkicker is worth considering.
UR thoughts???

I’m bringing in Robbie Gray off the bench to replace Reiwolt, which saves a trade… Riewolts hamstring is good timing – especially now that Gray is fit and ready – and I don’t really see any standout premiums to bring in (I already have Brown, ROK and Chapman … and Hall)… So if I am going to trade this week it will be to replace Reiwolt with either Peterson or Rockcliff.

Is it a good SC strategy to keep 750K+ in the bank for a rainy day?

You’re well covered! Of course, you don’t have Mitch Duncan (or Rohan) on your bench in the guts do you?

Cam
Depends whether you’re looking at winning the car or your league. For the former, I’m advised that a policy of an increase of 15PPG should be used for each trade but with the latter it depends on who you’re playing after Rd 3 as th GF win is the pinnacle.

No Duncan or Rohan but I am employing the 6 rookies in the midfield strategy (2 on the bench) for premium upgrades at the end of the year. (Barlow, Bastinac, Morabito, Jetta, Moles, Howlett)… All except Howlett (Bombers) are playing – Mitch Duncan looks impressive as a forward and I was considering Rohan but he didnt get a gurnsey in round 1…

Deano

I’m looking at the car not my league opponents from week to week… and so am prepared to take a few risks in that respect…

I’m a bit of a novice so what does PPG mean? Points per game, I suppose… So each player traded in should bring an increase of 15 points per game on average? Am I on the right track here?

This seems to mean that bringing in a rookie for Reiwolt – which will lose points in the short term – breaks with that policy…

It can only work later on when upgrading a rookie who has gone from around 100,000 to around 300,000 to a premium…

So that’s where cash in the bank comes in handy, which was my original question…

I suspect there a lot of good rookies around this year (mids and forwards) and so this long-term strategy will do well later in the year… and I’m already on about 2100 average per round

Makes sense Cam – I was thinking you could bring in a premium MID for Roo if you had a mid/fwd rookie on your midfield bench, but absent that I’d suggest you proceed with the Peterson trade and save your biscuits. You’ve decided to carry Gray this far – I’d give him a run and if his injury fails you have the money to make him a Higgins next week.

Mids:
Bartel, Dal Santo, Barlow, Swan, Gram, Martin (Trengove, Shuey)
Fwds:
Brown, Riewoldt, Higgins, Ballantyne, S. Johnson, Giansiracusa, Walker (Hitchcock, Gumbleton)

I’m thinking Voldt for Rioli and Trengove for ROK.

PS In case you’re wondering, the Medhurst question earlier tonight was for my dreamteam – this site provides way better comments than any dreamteam sites I’ve found!
PPS If freakin Stevie J and Gia would fire I’d be a happier man!

I’m no expert however consider the following:
Roo is a premium and you’re downgrading to a pot. prem. with only one other uber in the side;
You already have a solid MF and trading up Trengove prior to his capacity (he may even prove to be a keeper by Rd8) is wasting your preseason good selections.
Would suggest you trade roo for ROK in the FWD line as there are plenty of MF upgrades just waiting for the rookie capacity prices to be reached.
WRT Medders, doesn’t matter whether its SC or DT – neither give high points for hanging off a contest, getting the easy pill and then murdering it.

All good points, thanks Deano. I’m basically locked on Roo for ROK, but also thinkin I can chuck ROK in the mid and therefore jump on the Riolio bandwagon for Trengove to catch his early price rise. Would mean Rioli starts on the field for Martin (I would guess ~30 points per game). You’re probably right though, ride the Trengove train for another station or two…

What about Kyle Reimers? Over 100K cheaper than Cyril, kick goals and tackles. HIs average is good and his value will definitely go up. Just a thought, i can’t shake Cyrils injury from my mind, can’t help but think he might be a bit fragile?

Been tossing and turning on this one since 8:50pm last Friday Night, finally after all the pros and cons I can’t look a gift horse in it’s mouth. Reg Grundy has been on fire avg 112 ppg and should continue with his hot streak even if his value has gone up by @ $50k His value should continue rising for a few more rounds, I reckon. It also leaves me with a extra $170k sitting in the kitty for a few upgrades down the road.

Down to either Delish or Gray which will allow me to upgrade Clarke to Sandi and have some spare cash for the first rookie upgrade.
Leaning to the former after last week’s free movement showing from Rolly and worried about the back related hammy issue.

Why not just go for the straight Rooey to ROK, Ryan? This way you save a trade.
