The Run Home – Part ONE

Written by Schwarzwalder on August 9 2018

Over the last three weeks of the Supercoach season, it’s worth an effort to look at the remaining fixtures.  If you need to bring in an extra player or two, it can be worth the gamble if your new recruit is playing a couple of lower-ladder sides.

So which clubs have an easy run home?  Which players could be the difference between a Premiership Cup & a Runners-Up Ribbon?  Let’s look at the first six clubs (in alphabetical order):

ADELAIDE: GWS (A), NORTH (H), CARL (A)

No guarantee of big scores in the next two weeks although their ‘Grand Final’ is against Carlton who, according to Adam’s stats, give up the 2nd most amount of SC-pts in the League.  I’d be tipping Matt Crouch to be the player most likely to go large.

BRISBANE: COLL (A), GCS (A), WCE (H)

The Q-Clash squeezed in between some tough opponents gives a bit of relief.  Just not sure I’d be jumping on any Lions players for the last three games.   If anyone, then Mitch Robinson at a very cheap price.

CARLTON: FRE (A), NTH (H), ADE (H)

Not the toughest of draws over the last three weeks but there’s only one player you’d jump on with any confidence.  And most of us already have him in our teams.  Of course, I’m talking about that contested ball Beast, Patrick Cripps.  Look to Crippsy as a VC option over the last few weeks!

COLLINGWOOD: BRL (H), PORT (H), FRE (A)

All in all, not such a bad run home but their toughest opponent might be the lengthy injury list.  Taylor Adams has been one of the main beneficiaries of Adam Treloar’s hamstring injury (Last 5-Rd avg of 107pts).  He could prove to be a major POD over the last three weeks.

ESSENDON: STK (H), RICH (A, MCG), PORT (A)

Finals chances are practically gone, will be interesting to see how they react.  Tough to see them winning more than one of their last three however.  Gotta jump on Zach Merrett if you have a spare spot at M8/M9.  Has scored nine tonnes on the trot and doesn’t look like letting up anytime soon.

FREMANTLE: CAR (H), GEE (A), COLL (H)

Should beat Carlton at home this week but that might be the last W for the season.  David Mundy has been fairly solid all year and could provide you with a sneaky emergency loophole option at F7/M9 over the last three weeks.

How do you see it, Coaches?  Do you agree with my assessment of these first six clubs?  Anyone you’re looking at trading in on the strength of their late fixture?

  2. Can anyone tell me if Cripps is likely to get tagged playing Freo this weekend? I’m VC’ing Tommy Mitchell, and umming and ahhing about who to loophole. Cripps, Gawn, or Grundy are my picks right now – though maybe Oliver as an outsider?

    1. They will probably attempt to tag him but they don’t have anyone big or good enough to do the job. Alsmost untaggable at the moment. He destroyed Jack Steele a few weeks back. Along with Grundy, Macrae and Mitchell he is one of the safest options to go large every week.
