The Run Home – Part THREE

Written by Schwarzwalder on August 9 2018

Over the last three weeks of the Supercoach season, it’s worth an effort to look at the remaining fixtures.  If you need to bring in an extra player or two, it can be worth the gamble if your new recruit is playing a couple of lower-ladder sides.

So which clubs have an easy run home?  Which players could be the difference between a Premiership Cup & a Runners-Up Ribbon?  Let’s look at the next six clubs (in alphabetical order):

PORT ADELAIDE: WCE (H), COLL (A), ESS (H)

No easy games left for Port but two of them are at Adelaide Oval so that should see them across the line in the race for the Top8.  If you jumped on Chad Wingard mid-season, you’d be fairly happy with yourself.  In great form over the last eight weeks and should pump out a few more tonnes.

RICHMOND: GCS (A), ESS (H), WBD (H)

Have already cemented a Top4 spot and have a very favorable run home.  Not too many prolific scorers in the Tigers team but players like Kane Lambert and Shane Edwards are a big chance to up their output.

STKILDA: ESS (A, ETIHAD), HAW (H), NTH (H)

Tough to see the Saints win another game in 2018 but they should have plenty of scope to try out players for 2019.  Keep an eye on Freeman with a view to next season……..

SYDNEY: MEL (A), GWS (A), HAW (H)

Still no certainty to play in September with some tough matches ahead.  Will need to be at their best…….and will need Buddy Franklin to be at his best.  He’ll either bring you a 170 (like last weekend) or a 50.

WEST COAST: PORT (A), MEL (H), BRL (A)

Will play Finals footy but will be more difficult without Andrew Gaff.  Luke Shuey should see more of the footy in his absence along with Jack Redden and Elliot Yeo.

WESTERN BULLDOGS: NORTH (H), CAR (A), RICH (A)

For those that can afford the trade from Gaff to Macrae…….don’t think twice about it……..do it!  Averaging 124 pts this year, he could be the difference between a close loss and a resounding victory in that last weekend in August.

So, in closing, it would appear that Richmond & Geelong have the best of the draw over the last three weeks.  Whether that affects your judgement when making a trade is up to you.  Good luck in Finals, Coaches!
