The TEAM 2018 – Rd2

Written by Schwarzwalder on April 5 2018

Welcome back to the TEAM for 2018!  One of the largest gatherings of Supercoaches to have ever created a formidable line-up……….

Rd2 Score: 2352

Overall Ranking: 14 681

Trades Left: 30

Remaining Salary: $17 000

Solid effort in Rd2 by the TEAM.  If only we’d had a bit of luck with the rookies on the field in Rd1 then we’d be sitting inside the Top 5k…….oh well, long way to go yet.  TEAM line-up for Rd2 was as follows:

As with most Coaches, we had Luke Ryan sitting on the bench with his 115.  But seriously, who could’ve foreseen that?  McLean looks to be a very handy POD (around 5% ownership) that the TEAM picked up on.  Our rookies look to be in order as well.

Only bad news is that we’re ranked #287 in the SCT Group which would see us miss the SCT Cup (starting next week).  So what’s the next step?

Hibberd has been the focus of discussion in the Forum over the last few days.  Judging by the reaction, it’s a 50/50 call.

Honestly, I’m happy to stick with our TEAM as it is.  We’ve managed to dodge any of the major injury and/or form concerns till now.  However I’m not alone in the decision-making process.  If you feel there are major changes to be made, then enter your suggestions into the Forum below.  You’ll need to get the support of the Coaching Staff (plenty of Thumbs UP!) if anything is to be taken to a final poll.  Over to you, Coaches……………

**UPDATE at 7pm on 5/4/18**

Fogarty has been omitted for Adelaide, so we can use him as an Emergency loophole option in the FWD line (Garlett as E, then we’ll see).

Just to make sure about Hibberd, we’ll put it to a final poll.  If he is to be traded, it would be nice to see (at least) a 55-45 majority.  What are your thoughts on Hibberd?

    1. Really surprised here. Is that because it’s a bad decision for the team or bad in general? I’m considering doing it for my team.
      TUp do it
      TDown save a trade

        1. After my original suggestion I’ve voted on holding, thanks all for voting. I’ll be holding Hibberd and bringing in Simmo down the track.

  1. With decent enough money being made by pretty much all of the rookies, you could try and get another premo in there at the expense of probably LDU. That would require Hibbo to go though and to play Murray on field. So I’m saying:
    Hibbo – Murphy
LDU – whoever the bloody hell we want! (except Danger)

    1. Why would you use 2 trades to swap one premo for another?

      I vote to hold Hibberd.

If he stinks it up again this week. I don’t think he will.

Then we can vote on a straight swap to Heater or another value back Premo.

  2. Unless we can safely say that Hibberd’s role will revert to last year’s, we will continue to leak 30+ ppg relative to Simmo. Hibberd not even taking kick to self kick ins. If we hold him and decide to cut losses later….serious cash will be lost.

The cons are that if we do trade, we probably wont be alone.

For what its worth, I think a good change to SC rules would be that whoever kicks in does not score any points, until after he has disposed of or lost the ball.

  3. Is there somewhere that lists who is taking the majority of the kick ins for all the teams this season so far??

  4. Put Ryan on at F6 for Garlett.
The only potential trade options I see are Hibberd<Simpson and Naughton<Murphy. I have personally made the former, but already have Murphy. I would only make the first if you feel this is a) a better cash generating rookie and b) you intend on bringing Danger in early and are scraping for cash. IMO if I did not have Murphy I would not be bringing him in for Naughton, then again I have avoided injuries as the Italian army fighting, and can afford to use some trades.

  5. Hibberd to Murphy
Fogarty to Robbie Gray (deal with his bye when that time comes)

  6. Any chance we can have a quick but definitive vote on Hibberd? If there was one earlier in the week, excuse me and please ignore this post.

I don’t have him personally, but if I did he would be gawn!! The opportunity cost of doing so is marginal at best. If he does improve, it will need to be both significant and consistent to keep up with any number of available options who look good and have enough history to be sure we won’t get burned.

I just feel that given we haven’t used a trade yet and there is SO much value out there to be taken by doing so, it is worth serious consideration.

    Two quick votes:
    i. IN or OUT, and regardless of whether you voted IN or OUT, if he is to be replaced,
ii. who would you choose (pick two, from a definitive list) …

Democracy rules … for now at least

      1. Thanks Schwarz. Apologies for taking up yet more of your time, but at least we will know for certain what everyone wants.

  7. RE: the C/VC poll. Be mindful that it’s RICH vs HAW on Sunday, so all of those that are selecting both Martin and Mitchell are effectively negating each other. Only one of them can be the C option (not viable as the VC option).

At this stage, the poll has Cripps in 3rd place, which means he’ll be getting the VC against Collingwood tomorrow night.

    1. Agree….separate vote on mitchell/dusty for c if cripps souds it. Presumably c is initially on fogarty.

  8. Schwarz, thinking the VC option might be clearer for everyone if it was a separate vote. Only saying because we can’t use Laird, Dusty or Titch as VC but they are all potential Cs.

I dunno, am I overthinking this??

    1. I think it’s more of a unique situation in THIS Round that the schedule has worked out in the way it has (Mitch, Dusty, Danger all playing on the Sunday). In the end, Cripps/Fyfe as VC into Mitch/Dusty as C are all solid options that the majority of Coaches would be satisfied with……..

  9. If the hibberd to simpson trade goes through then simpson should be considered as Cap he loves playing against collingwood

    2

  10. If we do bring in Simpson, we should seriously consider sticking the VC on him, as he has a great record against Collingwood.

We could also give the VC to Stefan Martin, because he’ll be up against Westhoff and Dixon this weekend.

  11. Can’t believe there is so much debate re Hibberd/Simmo.

If we keep Hibberd, it follows that he will match Simmo for the rest of the year. Is that likely given his new role and current form ?
If we keep Hibberd, and ultimately chop him later, we risk being $65k worse off this week, and $155k in three weeks.

In other words, if we do the trade, we are almost assured to be no worse off. Don’t trade, and whilst we MIGHT be no worse off (unlikely in my opinion), the odds are heavily against that on exposed form.

Can anyone who wants to keep Hibberd, post a reason other than saving a trade ? I hardly think using our first trade in r3 is going to cost us in the long run.

    1. Those price projections are the current three week projections in total for Hibberd/Simmo…..Hibberd- $85k, Simmo +$70k

      1. Pete, as I said, having one less trade after three rounds is hardly a problem…..what about the rest of my thoughts ?

    2. Agreed. However, I do think that a straight-swap to Simpson is a bit of a waste. At least if it was to Shaw, you’d be gaining cash and hopefully some points, as opposed to just some points for Simpson (he’s not going to average 130+ for the rest of the year).

By the looks of the poll though, it’s all a moot point, as it looks like the trade won’t go ahead (Hold 52%, Trade 48%).

      1. DJ….I’m hoping my logic sways some people. Your point re Shaw is a good one re cash…..I have both Simmo and Heater.

  12. Pete, as I said, having one less trade after three rounds is hardly a problem, especially as the rest of the team looks so solid…..what about the logic of my thoughts aside from the trade factor ?

    1. Such heated debate about the TEAM amongst the Coaching Staff…….love it!! Shows the difference/difficulty in managing your own team and having to convince others in our TEAM. I find it fascinating that many are protective of the TEAM’s trades yet may have pulled the trigger on Hibberd in their own line-ups. All good……..

      1. Agreed about the desire by many to conserve trades.

Stupid question, but could it be that many people are assuming that THE TEAM is for league purposes, and not for overall status?
