Rd4 Josh Kelly (GWS) OUT for Stephen Coniglio (GWS) IN

Rd5Jeff Garlett (CAR) & Michael Hibberd (MEL) OUT for Matt Guelfi (ESS) & Patrick Dangerfield (GEE) IN

Rd7Andrew Brayshaw (FRE) & Jeremy Finlayson (GWS) OUT for Charlie Spargo (MEL) & James Sicily (HAW) IN

Rd8Aaron Naughton (WBD) & Tom Doedee (ADE) OUT for Lachlan Keefe (GWS) & Elliot Yeo (WCE) IN

Only one League win on the weekend despite a great game from new recruit, Yeo.  It’s not a bad TEAM we’ve assembled but we’re just falling short every week.  TEAM as it stands…………

It annoys the hell outta me that Billings is still in the TEAM.  Surely this is the week to upgrade him to a proper premium FWD?  Downgrade a rookie (Jack Henry?) to Ed Phillips & upgrade Billings to a premium FWD (could afford anybody).  That’s the first suggestion that comes to mind before teams are released.

As always though, I’m not alone in the decision-making process.  If you have a trade suggestion, please enter it into the comments below.   If the Coaching Staff like your idea (plenty of thumbs UP!), then it might just be forced to a vote on Thursday night after teams are announced.  So what would you do with the TEAM?

**UPDATE at 7pm on 24/5/18**

I am absolutely flummaxed!  Those team selections have thrown me completely.  Astonishingly, Billings could survive another week because we’re staring at a donut or two in the back line.  There’s still the possibility of trading him out and moving Keefe to the forward line, then upgrading Sam Murray to a premium defender.  I haven’t got any polls ready yet because I’m not sure what the best option is.  Leave your trade suggestions in the comments below and I’ll put the polls up in the morning………….

**UPDATE at 11am on 25/5/18**

Looks like Catta’s suggestions had the most approval of the Coaching Staff overnight.  I’d just like to make sure of the choices involved with the following polls…………..

Keefe will be moved FWD, but who gets taken OUT?

Who to trade OUT first from the FWD line?

  1. I agree with Henry to Phillips but I am unsure whether to upgrade billings or not.
Best fwds would be Franklin or Mcdonald I feel, due to Port bye
Franklin has a high BE and Mcdonald has played only 4 games and those 2 good scores were against Carlton and Gold coast. The other 2 were 80s

If we went for a defender Murray could bring in anyone, but Richards could only bring in a premo at 470k. So that would be someone like Ryan

  2. 1/ Billing out ( don’t let the door hit you on the ar$e on the way out ) switch Fogarty forward & bring Phillips in

2/ Henry out < Franklin in

    1. Agree that one of Sicily or Keefe have to move forward, defeats the purpose of buying Keefe if they’re in the same area of the field!

    2. Don’t mind that at all, Ben!

In saying that I still thinks there’s plenty of time to move Keeffe forward in the coming weeks, before the real 3 bye rounds start when it’s really needed. By then Simpson will be potentially well under $500k to swap for a $120-$140k & the likes of Walters ( if playing well ) will bottom out & be a straight swap for a fattened rookie!

  3. I feel defence is weaker than the forward line. Hurley back would be great, but Richards and Keeffe on field is much worse than Billings – who is still averaging 70 (and therefore he is priced below his average). No point trading out Billings now – we missed that boat.
I’d suggest Henry – Phillips via Fogarty. Then upgrading Richards would be good – although we can only afford Ryan.

    1. Billings average is inflated from his 1st game ( 133 ), take that out and he’s average is 62.2! Better off having a rookie averging 62.2 & making The Team $150-$200k to upgrade on other lines!

He’s bled $$$$for too long, it’s time to go as it’s obvious he’s either loss the hunger, he’s role has changed that much making it less SC savvy or his confidence is that low he needs to be dropped to the VFL

  4. Agree on Henry and Billings to Phillips and a premo forward.

I quite like Buddy or Mundy this week as options.

Franklin is coming up against Brisbane and Carlton who he scored 160 and 183 against respectively in his last meetings with them, and Mundy since he has bottomed out now with the 53 out of his 3 round cycle.

  5. Billings lost to much cash to bother trading, hold had hope he comes good after either dropping to VFL or after the bye. need to generate cash or this team will struggle to get to full premo
    kelly and henry out
phillips and webster via DPP in (webster as a POD)

next week Murray and fogarty out for ridley and smith

  6. If we’re looking at trading Billings then we should probably look at Walters this week or next week. Seriously cheap and saves us needing to actually spend to upgrade a “premo”.

  7. Ok…here’s one from left field. R13 both Gawn and S Martin have the bye, so we have no rucks. Billings to S Mckernan. Suits byes, cash neutral, be -23, going up 103k over 3 weeks, r/f dpp which is precious this year, and looks to have secured a spot finally.
Plus kelly to Philips for Danger bank.

    1. Who would give this a thumbs up? McKernan has the same bye as Gawn and Martin, not to mention we already have Danger

  8. With the teams out, it looks like Billings survives AGAIN 🙁

1/…Henry out, swing Keeffe fwd, Ridley in

    2/…Murray out / Simpson in

Loophole in the mids & Billings forward

    Cheers Catta

    1. Great advice Catta – not many options with the rookie carnage in defence….unless we want a donut!

        1. Hopefully Ridley keeps playing even with Hurley back….and there are still rookies appearing each week. I don’t think Phillips is a ‘must have’, just the best bubble-boy this week!

        2. Not too disappointed re: Phillips. Nice work Catta. Few other options available now teams are out.

    2. not bad suggestions Catta … and addresses this week.

One thing to draw to everyone’s attention here is the numbers over the byes …

As it stands with Cattas suggestions with no other trades the Bye PLanner indicates 22 on field in 12. Which isn’t the case, as there are 9 and 7 showing in the mids and fwds … so 20 on field … assuming that all current players play.

Rnd 13 only has 18 with again 9 in the mids, so only 17. Also, as indicated, no rucks that week … and again, assuming that all players play.

Rnd14 shows 20 available and all lines OK.

Now I know the plan will be to trade some out as we get to each Bye, but after this week, only 17 trades left and minimal dollars … so difficult to go 1 up 1 down in the future …

      Something to consider …

      1. Those pesky bye rounds, Macca!!!

We can always go a bit of a POD with Webster, who plays in the final bye round. I just think Simpson will easily score more than him & Ryan in the run home to finals.

Over the years I’ve seen a lot of coaches sacrifice one bye round having less players, but banking 2/3 wins throughout the 3 bye rounds ( excluding r10 mini bye round of course )

    3. This is the play. Could also look at Luke Ryan instead of Simpson to save cash, which we’ll need looking at our back line!

  9. Huge hole defensively with the teams as named.

Currently got 4 donut defenders and people still wanna upgrade Billings, who has lost a motza anyway?

Sheesh people. You need 2 defenders this week.

Need a defender for Murray pronto.

Henry out, Keeffe forward. That lets you get Ridley in for Henry.

With that plus, Murray out, the question becomes McDonald or Lloyd?

  10. Can’t believe so many people are in the same boat with Billings ! It’s almost laughable, what are the chances he goes BOOM during the SC finals after failing all year!

    1. No doubt he has the potential to do so, Joestar.

Fact is though, take out his 133 ( 1st round score ) his average is 62.2 & a rookie can average that but make us $150~$170k to upgrade other lines heading into SC finals.

  11. With Keeffe out, as suggested Henry to Ridley via DPP (although I’m not sure on his JS)
Then either Richards to Ryan or Murray to Simpson.
I’m leaning towards Ryan due to the following:
    1) He is priced below his average and hitting good form. Creates a good POD too.
    2) Murray on field is much more preferable than Richards
    3) Better bye structure (in DEF).
