The TEAM 2019 Rd11

Written by Schwarzwalder on May 30 2019

Welcome back to the TEAM for 2019!  Where the greatest SuperCoach minds debate the future of the largest TEAM on the net………

ROUND TEN SUMMARY

The TEAM improved a bit on recent weeks in Rd10 but still dropped in the overall rankings and only took out one League game.  With 20 trades in hand, we’d best be looking to continually improving the TEAM a little bit each week……….

CURRENT LINE-UP

Taking into account that we have Scott (NTH) & Bines (WCE), we have the following structure for the Bye Rounds: 21 (playing) – 18 – 16.  Actually a fairly good structure (purely coincidental) which can be strengthened over the next few weeks.

Let’s make some moves, Coaches!  Let’s hear your trade suggestions……get them into the comments below.  Our Coaching Staff will assess it and bring out some polls after teams have been selected.  Fire away……..

**UPDATE on 30/5/19 at 9pm**

OK Coaches………the only way to make any meaningful upgrade this week is to downgrade Reilly O’Brien (ADE) for the extra cash.  And it looks like we’ll have to take a risk with downgrading to a rookie.  VOTE NOW on latest changes………

  1. Just ROB to Hinge VIA Bines and Burgess, freeing approximately 280k.

We could then trade Hayes for Cameron, but this requires us to swing Danger into the mids and then field Corbett over Duursma.

  2. We should keep rob till after the r13 bye if at all possible. Thats the round we could make big inroads if we are smart. We can review if sauce takes rob’ spot. We do however need cash badly, so….

    Clarke to Hinge…..byes neutral.
Scott to Baker….improves r14 bye but js a possible negative

Raises 248k. We can then hold our good r12 onfield position, trading hard for r13.

    1. Why would we keep ROB for that long? It’s pointless having him as cover for the round 13 bye. This is because he is only available to us in ONE of the bye rounds, where if we trade him to a premo they will play TWO of the bye rounds.

      1. I bow to logical arguments, so how do we exchange rob for a premo, that doesn’t have r13 bye ? I’m sure its possible, but too much for my mind to contemplate.

      2. If he covers the ruck roll = 1
If he is traded out his bye for a premo = 1
Thus he has been useful for TWO bye rounds.

      3. not quite right Daisy – see Alf’s comments.
His usefulness is dependent upon Sauce back in … and even then, depending on how many players you are out for rnd 13 he is almost a must, even if Sauce is playing and he loses a little cash …

it will be an interesting call ….

        1. Totally agree…. We must reconsider trading him out till rd 14. Glad there are other supportive opinions. What do we do in the unlikely event that gawn/ grundy gets injured this week?

  3. Is it possible to post our actual team after changes have been made…much easier to follow its progress if so.

  4. As a radical cash generation move, I would not be against trading Smith to Hinge…not sure smith is in our final team. Clarke could go any other round as opportunity arises.

  5. Hey Schwarzy – just plugging the Team into the bye planner, in the first bye, as it stands, I think at best we have 19 on field (currently 7 in def and 3 in rucks – need 1 from each excluded).
This excludes Scott and Young ever getting a game again.
It also includes the two Suns rookies, Answerth and Clark – odds are that another 1 or 2 of those miss by then as well?? Maybe even Baker from Tigers too …

We need to get in at least 1 more (or 2) certainties for 12 – without also hurting the other bye if possible … just IMHO …

    1. And to further qualify that … I’ve got little idea on the best way forward either … may have to sacrifice numbers in 1 of the bye rounds and aim for strong in the others … no cash and poor rookies (with little cash gen) is going to strangle the team … have to aim for really fallen premos (eg R Gray, Darling) – though we do have trades to burn two rookies for 1 premo …

Counting B Smith as a premo, there is still 6 positions to upgrade – that’s a minimum 12 of the 20 trades … more likely 14-15 or more.

Not terribly helpful I know, but may have to consider burning through some of the lesser rookies for as much cash gen … and where / if possible two down and 1 up in the byes … sorry i’m too tired to suggest any options ..

      1. This approach makes a lot of sense and is why I actually suggested trading Smith to Binge, but that no longer is appropriate. We have to make some aggressive moves or else we will stand still at best. I really dont understand why Rob has to go (especially as fort dropped) given his bench cover and perfect byes, and holding him will always allow a downgrade via Bines, giving us another three weeks to decide on who…maybe a new rookie pops up even. He could even be a straight downgrade to fort r14.Holding Rob also allows us extra trade over rounds 11-13. Can we do a Brexit re-vote ?

I also think that any premos we bring in must be players who we would want at finals time….I’m not sure Gray and Darling would be better than Dunkley or Billings for example.

So, with trades in hand, I reckon…..
        1. Crouch to Baker
        2. Clark to Lloyd or whoever gets the popular vote.
Cash remaining 105k. I know Crouch will be controversial, but these injury issues always seem to linger, and his game style seems to have changed…getting 35+ but barely scrapping 100pts….dinky backwards kicks killing him.

Re the byes rounds, Schwarzy, can you please tell us the current rankings of the teams we play each bye round. The above idea of possibly abandoning 1 bye might be right, but we do have a good spread at the moment.

I know I sometimes ramble on…I’ll now return to my man cave and quietly watch developments with interest. Our lack off dpp mids is a lesson for the future.

        1. Onya Wighty……..
‘think I’ve tried to promote similar concerns during the season; ie G & R format and lack of DPP, and not just for our team!……injuries,…there should be a law against ’em!

          1. Thanks Alf……and yes…injuries suck….looking at you new recruit Shiel !!! Only got you ahead of Pendles for bye structure….cost me three league wins.

  6. An unorthodox approach could be

    RD11:
    Out: ROB, W Hayes
In: R Gardner (via P Bines), O Baker
    Approx 385,000 remaining.

    RD12:
    Out: J Clark, B Scott, J Corbett
    In: J Westhoff (via R Gardner)/R Gray, B Bewley, J Lloyd
    Approx 0 to 30,000 left.

    RD13:
    Out: M Hore/X Duursma, N Answerth, X Duursma/L Stocker
In: L Ryan or mid premium below 530,000, def rookie, mid rookie

    RD14:
    Out: L Baker
    In: J Dunkley/D Mundy

    Team will then be:
    Def: R Laird, L Whitfield, J Sicily, J Lloyd, L Ryan/M Hore, B Smith
    Mid: P Cripps, M Crouch, C Oliver, J Macrae, L Neale, N Fyfe, S Walsh, rookie/mid premium under 530,000
    Ruck: B Grundy, M Gawn
    Fwd: T Kelly, P Dangerfield, I Heeney, T Boak, J Dunkley/D Mundy, J Westhoff/R Gray

    1. Normally don’t pay much attention to the thumbs but was wondering why the disdain towards the potential plan for the team. With our poor cash situation and excess trades it’s necessary to trade ROB either in or before Rd12 to capatilise on the 9 trades offered over the 3 round period in conjunction with upgrading the team quicker plus mainitng the majority of our solid rookies.

      2

      1
      1. I think its because there is no improvement in our pts position this round, and we need to get moving now. Gardner before he plays is an unknown quantity and therefore an unknown risk. Crouch to a premo brings extra pts immediately. My view on Rob remains..he is cover for rds 11/12, and precious onfield in r13 when most teams will be struggling. He can only be traded once….best effect is r14. Might be some concern re hoff/gray as finals time fwds we would want. Bewley has r12 bye so can be bought in r13 at the same price then as he is now.
We should only use all the 9 byes trade options if it improves the team.

      1. Makes sense. I’m just not sold on any of the other potential upgrade options at the moment.

          1. Sorry, not sold on fwd options.
Lloyd and Ryan look solid backline options depending on bye structure.

  7. A little bemused about trading out Corbett. Was there a poll I missed?

He has very solid JS, a friendly R14 Bye and more cash to make.

Surely freeing up the cash from ROB would of been better spent on getting Lloyd this week.

Everyone seems wide eyed about Jezza and his potential V the Suns.

I have my doubts, Lets hope he delivers

      1. Jezza was the top ranked fwd voted on, but I’m curious about how you know the trade/s have been made.
