The TEAM 2019 – Rd12

Written by Schwarzwalder on June 6 2019

Welcome back to the TEAM for another week……..where all the SCT Coaches can shape the outcome of the TEAM……….

ROUND ELEVEN SUMMARY

Recent inclusions Boak and Cameron were impressive for their new TEAM and, as a result, we hit a decent score of 2324.  That saw the TEAM move back up in the Rankings and win 7/10 League games…….well done, Coaches!

CURRENT LINE-UP

Whitfield is out for four weeks, which is very optimistic for a broken collarbone imo.  Since we have 18 trades still in hand, holding is NOT an option.  Our Bye structure is fairly balanced so I’m open to all ideas with Whitfield.  Personally, I’d like to get Josh Kelly in……haven’t quite figured out the best way just yet (will enter it into comments when I do).

Let’s hear your trade suggestions, Coaches!  Our Coaching Staff will show their approval / disapproval with the Thumbs UP/DOWN and I’ll try getting some polls ready later tonight after the teams have dropped……….

**UPDATE AT 9.30pm on 6/6/19**

Would you rather go with Nateo’s trade plan or Adam’s?

      1. Yes. With the amount of trades we have left and poor cash generating options in conjunction with a necessity to increase available players for the byes. It would be more beneficial to trade him now than later in the season.

  1. I’m a fan of trying to hit players coming off their byes rather than trading in a player just to see them miss for their bye week. With that in mind, I’m considering the idea and so too should The TEAM, of holding Whitfield for a week to target a R12 bye player.

    1. Totally makes sense with 22 players still likely to be onfield even without whit…..lets not forget we only need 18 good ones !!

      5

      1. ..thats 21 players onfield r12…but it does include hore. We are still in a very good position to wait and pick up a rd 12 def. Ryan looks a no brainer.

        6

        1
  2. Out: L Whitfield, W Hayes, B Scott
In: H Andrews, R Gray, R Gardner (via N Answerth)

Get 2 underpriced “premiums” in the process of getting rid of our deadweight as with our trade situation there is no point keeping B Scott and W Hayes. R Gray can occupy a spot in the mids until we trade L Baker for a mid allowing Gray to be switched forward.

Next week J Clark can be traded via N Answerth for a mid rookie such as B Bewley or D Clarke pocketing around 150,000 to 180,000 which could be utilised to trade M Hore to L Ryan.

RD14 will allow one of L Baker or S Walsh to be upgraded to a premium via the downgrade of L Stocker which would leave the team with Duursma and 1 of S Walsh and L Baker left on-field. If N Answerth is traded during the byes then upon the exit we should be left with only 1 rookie on field.

    9

    6
    1. The only problem is that you are then stuck with Andrews and Grey as your premiums.
I don’t see either of them as top 6 in their position.

      3

      3
      1. But I don’t know why some people cannot comprehend that we have to make sacrifices and it’s near impossible for anyone to finish with the top 6 on every line. If someone can devise a trade plan further than Rd12 that will maximise point scoring whilst successfully navigating the byes in conjunction with minimising the amount of rookies once we exit the byes then it would be extremely beneficial in helping the team.

    1. Agree. We need to get Lloyd anyway. So what if he has the bye next week. Get his points this week an knock out another dud’s score.

      5

      2
      1. But we can grab him in RD14/RD15 via X Duursma/S Walsh through the downgrade of Answerth thus allowing potentially 3+ “premiums” in the process.

  3. We need to chill a bit this round..we will have a very good team on field even if we dont trade. Hold Whitfield for Ryan next week, and with 18 trades in hand, its cash we need this week. And if anyone can find a good dpp mid..lets hear about it.
    So..
    Out Scott and Hayes
    In Bewley and Clarke

I know this goes against the Josh Glenn rule, but it frees up cash, and if we left it till next week, we would not have the trades available to do some nice looking potential upgrades..

    4

    8
    1. Remember the Josh Glenn rule is only a guideline/suggestion not a rule and I’m happy with that trade but grabbing R Gardner via switching N Answerth to the mids instead of selecting D Clarke frees up more cash in conjunction with allowing us to wait till Rd13 or RD14 to grab D Clarke either via J Clark, N Answerth or S Walsh.

Grabbing Andrews instead of Ryan this week as well as R Gardner instead of D Clarke will allow M Hore to become L Ryan next week whilst trading Whitfield to a premium thus eliminating a rookie score this round.

      7

      2
      1. Sounds another good option, but I do like to avoid kpp defs or fwds. There are always exceptions I admit.

        2

        2
      1. With our situation with excess trades it’s necessary to trade or even utilise all 9 over the next 3 weeks if we want to minimise or eliminate all on-field rookies by RD15/end of byes. This will involve trading B Scott and W Hayes which I think is a necessity for this week and as I listed above we can turn 1 of them into Gray by trading Whitfield to Andrews. This will also help us to turn Duursma/Walsh into J Lloyd in RD14/15 thus completing our defence assuming M Hore goes to L Ryan/etc.

        2

        0
        1. As I said above, all for the hayes/scott trades to raise cash. What to do then is the tricky thing. We got trades…lets use them to advantage.

          1

          1
          1. As I mentioned above I think the best option but will likely be met with disdain is to grab R Gray. A DPP which means we can keep him as M8 after the byes for a bit if Baker continues his form or switch him fwd to allow a mid premium in Rd14. Hayes and Scott are gone and Gray and Gardner replace them whilst trading Whitfield to Andrews. We are still missing J Lloyd but we should be able to afford a trade of Duursma/Walsh to J Lloyd via an N Answerth downgrade in Rd14-15.

            1

            4
  4. love the idea of a dpp, but is gray a player we want onfield as either a mid or fwd come finals ?

    2

    4
    1. There is absolutely no way we can get all the best premiums so we have to make a sacrifice somewhere or even several sacrifices and with a bench of Bines, Young, Burgess, plus the incoming rookies the cash gen is limited short and long term.

Gray has the history, represents a lot of value, can comfortably avg a minimum of 85-90 for the next 11 matches bar injury. Allows us to move the rookies off quicker whilst allowing us to still grab some of the big names later down the track.

If the team somehow manages to knock all rookies off-field and still have potential to grab cover on 1 or multiple lines then he could be paired with S Menegola for the latter half of the year. They can both be looped in the fwd line or 1 can be looped in the mids whilst providing cover for any injuries.

      2

      1
    2. He doesn’t have to finish on field by the end of the season, he’d make good fwd/mid bench cover if he can’t rediscover his premium scoring of the past

  5. Hey Schwarz – FYI Macrae has a BYE this week buddy and cannot be selected as a Captain 🙂

  6. Whaaaat??? My suggestion of not trading Whitfield this week and targeting a player coming off their bye next week got the most thumbs up of all suggestions in the thread yet it’s not an option in the poll. Hmph…… Baa humbug.

    5

    0
    1. You’re right, RB……looks like I got sucked in by the long conversation with Adam…..sorry

      2

      0
  7. Assuming Nateo’s option in the poll wins out we still need to devise a plan regarding trading W Hayes and B Scott in conjunction with combating the next 2 rounds. If we wait any longer to trade them out it’s going to greatly affect our ability to bring premiums in during the byes and ensure a playing 18.

    3

    0
    1. This is absolutely spot on. I suggest all try and come up with a plan to achieve near full prems by start r15 without doing the Hayes/Scott trades…..its impossible from both a cash, and no. of trades required angle to do it. There are of course reasons why some of the trades needed are dangerous…Josh Glenn etc…but we sure know that doing nothing will also be dangerous in falling behind the pack.

I rang my good mate FULB overnigh, and we got playing with magnets.

      R12
      – Whitfield/Hayes/Scott…swing Answerth to mids
      + Lloyd/Gardner/Clarke

      Opens up d/f swing (Gardner/Burgess). Cash 145.5k

      R13
      -Clark/Hore
      +Ryan/Rookie (102.3)

      Cash 34.1

      R14
      -Stocker/Walsh
      +Yeo/Rookie (102.3)
Cash -2.2 Cash is tight but all prices are current….further cow fattening is possible, as is price drops for prems.

      Round 15 team is then.

      Lloyd/Laird/Sicily/Smith/Ryan/Duursma (gardner/rookie)

      Neale/Fyfe/Macrae/Oliver/Cripps/Crouch/Yeo/O Baker (answerth/clarke/rookie)

      Grundy/Gawn (bines)

      Kelly/Boak/Danger/Cameron/Heeney/L Baker (burgess/young)

Obviously, prems that would come in are subjective, and subject to byes. I’d be just as happy with Pendles as Yeo for example, and cash is not then a problem….we could grab a better rookie if available. The point I am trying to make, as have others, is how do we get to anything like this after R14 by doing just one trade this round ??
We would have eleven trades left, flexible dpp’s, and maybe only three upgrades to complete..Duursma, Baker, Baker. Whitfield for Duursma at some stage and Dunkley for either Baker looks appealing.

      Please be gentle !!

      1. Agree – have to move Hayes and Scott this week for cash the following weeks.
Gardner will be a benefit playing or not with his dpp status

      2. Like the planning and selections Wighty as it’s great to see someone post a plan greater than 1 week in this forum and exert the time and effort to consider an option as this is 1 of my major gripes with the other suggestions provided for the team.

An alternative to your proposed option could be
        RD12:
        Out: L Whitfield, W Hayes, B Scott
In: H Andrews, R Gray, R Gardner (via N Answerth)

        RD13:
        Out: J Clark, N Answerth, M Hore
In: B Bewley (via N Answerth switch), D Clarke (via C Burgess and R Gray), L Ryan
        160,000 left

        RD14:
        Out: S Walsh, L Stocker, L Baker
In: J Lloyd (via X Duursma), mid premium below 530,000, fwd rookie

Exit the byes with a team of:
        Def: J Lloyd, R Laird, L Ryan, H Andrews, B Smith, J Sicily
Mids: L Neale, N Fyfe, J Macrae, C Oliver, P Cripps, M Crouch, mid premium under 530,000 and X Duursma
        Ruck: B Grundy, M Gawn
        Fwd: T Kelly, P Dangerfield, I Heeney, T Boak, J Cameron, R Gray,

        1. A great alternative. We just have to win what appears to be the logical argument first. Im still waiting for alternative r 13/14 plans that only have the one trade this week.

          2

          0
          1. Good luck trying to find it. Not many bother to provide a plan past 1 week and whenever I do the thumbs down typically outweigh the thumbs up.

The whole rhetoric most are running with is do we want them for finals or the top 6 in each position. In this current situation it’s absurd as it’s extremely difficult to predict who will finish the year at the top or which players will average the most for the 2nd half of the season.

We need to hunt value to finish off the team. They might not be the top end premiums everyone desires but it’s necessary to help us gain a finals berth as there is no point saying do we want them for finals if we are fielding multiple rookies in the run home and finish outside the 8 in the team’s respective leagues.

Regarding Hayes and Scott it’s a necessity to trade this week as it greatly impacts our ability to upgrade next week. There is no point holding them any longer as we need their cash now and we have the sufficient trades in hand to execute the move.

            7

            0
  8. Trading only Whitfield to Lloyd will leave THE TEAM very light on for players in round 13.

Lloyd misses, so before any trades it will appear that we will have only seventeen (17) players with the likelihood that the following; Scott, Hayes, and Stocker will all miss selection – 14 ?

    2

    0
    1. Wouldn’t bother about RD13 as RD12 and RD14 will compensate if we are unable to field 18 next week but as I have constantly mentioned we need to get rid of W Hayes and B Scott this round to help us combat the other bye rounds in conjunction with helping our poor cash generation.

      7

      1. Wighty’s planning is excellent, very in depth, a great option but I think overall Adam’s bye trading will leave the TEAM as a powerful line-up post bye rounds.

        3

        1. I would just as happily take Adams team, although i really would prefer dunkley for gray. Its the concept that is important.

          3

          0
          1. With our trade situation we could always trade R Gray out for J Dunkley later on if he doesn’t meet our expectations and with the tendency for LTI’s to occur later in the season there should be an opportunity to grab J Dunkley.

            4

  9. The ideas put forward by Adam and Wighty have really helped me think about my own team, which has the same problem with Scott and Hayes. Cheers fellas

    1. Thanks. Always happy to help.

Had a poor season cash generation wise missing out Stack, Rozee and Miers, trading M Hore out for J Scrimshaw then M Hore back in for B Scott 1 week after Hore was on the bubble, starting J Darling, W Hayes in then W Hayes out last week for O Baker. Haven’t been able to get that magic 150,000 to 200,000 out of most of the rookies but happy with the team I’ll be able to assemble across the byes with no rookies on field for RD15 whilst having X Duursma on the bench to be able to utilise his cash to establish cover.

Good luck for the remainder of the season and hopefully you can successfully navigate the byes.

      5

    1. As much as I think it’s necessary the same situation will occur again. The vast majority don’t execute the time or effort to consider what is in the best interests of the team and what will be beneficial for the upcoming rounds or the remainder of the season instead employing a narrow focus on the week at hand.

They’ll see J Lloyd as an option in comparison to Andrews, Gray and Gardner and still continue to select the J Lloyd option as he’s 1 of the key and elite premiums we are missing but we can comfortably get him in RD14-15 which they will not factor in.

  10. Brilliant stuff you two (Adam and Wighty) and the thumbs look positive.

I vote for the three-round strategy which involves trading BOTH Scott and Hayes this week. We’ll never achieve the optimal outcome down the track if we don’t. And as you both rightly point out, we have the trades to do it.

The polls can then simply be on who we bring in for the three of them starting with which line needs the premo and then who is it. Think the rookie picks are pretty straightforward.

    4

    1. Thanks allsaints. Great as always to receive your feedback/suggestions/opinion/etc. Hopefully the team doesn’t follow the singular trade option which is currently leading the poll and instead decide on whether to execute Wighty’s plan, my plan or another plan to combat the byes and reduce on-field rookies.

      1. ‘legend’ is pushing it mate. I reiterate,

great work and effort from you two. It’s that time and effort that people like your good selves put in that makes this the best SC site and taking the time out of your lives for the TEAM’s benefit is especially generous. Good on you both.

I haven’t had the chance to be as active the last couple of weeks as I’d like with something called work getting in the way.

    1. Just a rough attempt without taking the byes into heavy consideration due to several DNP’s but an option to combat the next couple of weeks is:

      RD12:
Out: L Whitfield, C Rozee (via W Setterfield), W Setterfield (via N Answerth)
      In: H Andrews, R Gardner, P Cripps
      180,000 left

      RD13:
Out: M Hore, J Clark, D Moore (via S Wicks)
      In: L Ryan, W Milera, B Bewley/D Clarke
      Approx 150,000 to 180,000 left

      Rd14:
Out: S Stack (via S Wicks), N Answerth, Z Fisher
In: T Boak, G Logue, D Mundy (if funds permit)

Exit the byes with a team of:
      Def: S Hurn, J Lloyd, R Laird, H Andrews, L Ryan, W Milera, (X Duursma, G Logue/?)
      Mid: P Cripps, J Kelly, L Neale, R Sloane, C Oliver, B Crouch, T Rockliff, T Liberatore, (J Hately, S Wicks, B Bewley/D Clarke)
      Ruck: B Grundy, M Gawn (D Fort)
      Fwd: D Mundy, T Boak, T Kelly, P Dangerfield, I Heeney, J Worpel (R Gardner, R Young)

4 trades left with X Duursma as cover for the defs and if you grab a def/mid loophole in the midfield X Duursma can cover 2 lines.

      4

          1. I don’t know how Rozee via setterfield and setterfield via answerth work.
            Rozee is a def/fwd setterfield a fwd/mid.
            Answerth is a mid/def setterfield a fwd/mid ???

            1

            0
            1. Whoops. Sorry about that. You can trade W Setterfield via C Rozee and via N Answerth to P Cripps which will then allow a trade of C Rozee to R Gardner as Rozee will be in the fwd line and Gardner is a fwd. That should be able to be executed.

              1

              0
              1. I don’t get understand the setterfield via rozee trade. Setters isn’t a defender. Can I do that with Moore instead of setters ???

                1

                0
                1. Press the trade button on Setterfield and there should be an option to press S on Rozee. This moves Rozee to the fwd line and Setterfield down back. Then you should be able to press the S on Answerth moving Answerth to the defence and Setterfield to the midfield.

This allows you to grab P Cripps whilst in the process moving Answerth back to defence and Rozee to the fwd line.

                  2

                  0
                2. Thanks for the help Adam. Unfortunately I can’t get my head around it. Think I might just cop my donuts and save trades for after byes. Might have another look at it in a couple of hours. Feel a migraine coming on.

                  2

                  0
                  1. That’s fine. Looking at it again you can reduce the complexity by trading Setterfield to Gardner so it’s a fwd to a fwd. Then move Rozee to the mids by pressing the S on Answerth allowing P Cripps to be selected.

Everything works out the same but less switching.

                    2

                    0
    2. I’m going to take an approach as if this was my team, and I was aiming for highest position and leagues….quite different to Adam as a result. Congrats on your ranking and great dpp spread. Hately..what a shame..I guess you have now heard of the Josh Glenn rule ?
I also have noted your bye structure..we forget r13, r12 looks good even with Hurn, so my approach is set up the run home from R14.

R12.Whitfield to Gardner. No use this rd but you dont need it. Means one less trade in future rds, extra dpp swing with Moore. Cash about 548k.
      R13. Clark to Ryan..cash about 311k
R14. Out Stack, Moore, Fisher In Dunkley, Clarke, Daniel cash about 182k.

This will leave you with eight trades, two byes wins hopefully, and some cows to upgrade on the run home. I think you should be making finals in strong spots…try and keep at least two trades for that.

      Good luck.

      1. Hey Wighty I ended up going with Adam. I was having trouble implementing his trades but I think I found another way of doing it.
        Whitfield to Andrews
        Rozee to Gardner
Substituted Setters with Wicks. Setters mid Wicks fwd.
        Setters to Cripps.
Impulse decision with two minutes to spare before tigers cats game.
It’s done now onwards and upwards.

    1. Hi Wighty. Took a nap just woke up. Tried to take Adams advice ( guy has a beautiful mind ) I just couldn’t do it. Your advice is just as impressive. A lot simpler ( perfect for me ) but allows my team to mature. I was looking at doing similar but was going to go Whitfield to I.Cummings leaving me less money but with a player with rnd 14 bye. (Not that it matters I’ve got this weeks oppnnent easily covered). I think I’ll take your advice thanks for the time and effort. (And thanks to Adam). BTW have been made aware of Josh Glenn rule, another reason I was going to go I.Cummings instead of Gardner. Nothing to lose might as well go Gardner. Thanks again.

      1. Thanks mate…it was a choice between the immediacy of Adam’s suggestions or a longer term strategy. Hope it works out for you. Adam got the vote at “the team” so I hope that works out too.
        Keep me posted.

  12. The Board of the TEAM has been deiberating all night on recent developments and has come to the following conclusion………
I haven’t encountered the amount of long-term detailed planning that Adam & Wighty have invested into the TEAM this week. As stated previously we have plenty of trades to work with and the plan that Adam has put forward deals with the TEAM’s ‘shortcomings’ in the best possible scenario. His strategy leaves us in the best possible situation going into Rd13 and beyond.
For those reasons, the Board will be implementing Adam’s trade strategy ahead of Rd12. The TEAM will continue on with the Captaincy poll, currently at Dangerfield VC & Neale C. Thank you all for your input, Coaches!!

    2. Thanks Schwarzwalder. Glad to help as always.

Hopefully the potential plans provided by Wighty and I helped other coaches plan their trades for the bye period or even to help them make suggestions for next weeks course of action for the “team”. I believe that managing to successfully navigate the byes is one of or if not the most important stage in the season and if done successfully reaps a large reward in regards to rankings.

Whilst the selections of H Andrews and R Gray were a bit controversial or not favoured by the majority I think they represent great value and have both shown in the past capability to score at a premium level. If for whatever reason they suffer an injury or don’t meet our expectations we will still have sufficient trades in hand to sideways if necessary.

Very intrigued to see what suggestions are offered next week and hopefully coaches can provide a plan for RD14 as well which will be extremely beneficial for the team’s assault post byes.
