The TEAM 2019 Rd7

Written by Schwarzwalder on May 3 2019

Welcome back to the TEAM for 2019!  Where every Coach on the SCT site can shape the TEAM to their liking………

ROUND SIX SUMMARY

The TEAM came in about par for Rd6 with a score of 2113.  We’re still hovering around the 10k mark in overall rankings.  A big shout out to all the TEAM Leagues………if memory serves me correctly (and I’ll have ‘League Updates’ ready to go for Friday) there are currently seven TEAM Leagues in the Top500!  Not bad considering we’re only allowed one entry per team……well done, Coaches!

CURRENT LINE-UP

OK, Coaches……down to business………I’m a little torn this week.  Since we have 28 trades still in hand, I’d love to start upgrading……especially with a question mark over Whitfield.  The question is who?  And how?

Ideally I’d love to upgrade Collins in DEF but I can’t raise enough cash to get him to Hurn/Lloyd……..

I’d love to upgrade Butters to Fyfe (or another Fallen Premium) but keep falling short with funds.

The only viable trade I can see is Drew(PTA) downgraded to Bolton(RIC) who I expect to come back in this week, which would leave enough cash to upgrade Butters (PTA), via DPP, to a Worpel (HAW) or Caleb Daniel (WBD) type of FWD.  Or, dare I say it, Rockliff (PTA) in the midfield?

I’m open to any trade suggestions…….just keep in mind, that we want to bring in keepers, not just any old options.  Let me know in the comments below.  The Coaching Staff will give us an idea in which direction to move in through the thumbs UP/DOWN function.  So what moves would you make with our TEAM?

**SURPRISE – I’ve been doing a little tinkering in my spare time and in future, we might just get the TEAM happening in Video Format starting next week.  Stay tuned for that…….**

**UPDATE at 7pm on 2/5/19**

Now that teams have dropped, what trade suggestions have you got for the TEAM? Are we going to fall short in the backline?  Polls will be up in the morning……..thank you, Coaches!

**UPDATE at 9am on 3/5/19**

Like I mentioned earlier, I’m bullish about trading this week……especially given we have 28 trades in hand and Whitfield will be missing this week.  Just the two polls this week then and I’ll play arond with the left over emergencies with loopholes.

In the first poll, we’re deciding whether to bring in Fyfe & Young OR Sicily & Hayes……….

Option A – OUT Collins & Constable, IN Young (WBD) & Fyfe (FRE)

Option B – OUT Collins & Constable, IN Sicily (HAW) & Hayes (WBD)

So which way are you leaning?

Which trades would be better for the TEAM?

  • Option B (66%, 95 Votes)
  • Option A (34%, 49 Votes)

Total Voters: 144

And as always, the Captains poll for Rd7………

Best C/VC options for the TEAM in Rd7? (three choices)

  • Patrick Cripps (CAR vs North) (25%, 74 Votes)
  • Max Gawn (MEL vs Hawks) (23%, 66 Votes)
  • Brodie Grundy (COL vs Port) (20%, 57 Votes)
  • Lachie Neale (BRL vs Syd) (15%, 44 Votes)
  • Patrick Dangerfield (GEE vs Ess) (8%, 23 Votes)
  • Jack Macrae (WBD vs Rich) (7%, 19 Votes)
  • Clayton Oliver (MEL vs Hawks) (2%, 6 Votes)
  • Matt Crouch (ADE vs Freo) (1%, 2 Votes)

Total Voters: 123

  1. Hmmmm. Don’t feel I can really suggest anything until Thursday team drops. There are just so many question marks this week.

  2. I am not sold on trading Drew with break even of 4 and Butters with break even of 27 with both , especially Drew who should be on field. If Scott is not named again gives opportunity to loophole Butters.
As we want to upgrade to keepers thinking of double downgrade this week
Atkins to Hayes if named and risk Collins to Answerth if named, which gives $$ next week for 1 0r possibly 2 upgrades
Answerth solid first game so let’s see if named with Andrews a possibility to be back
    Yes T/u
    No T/d

    1. You mention Answerth a risk, Andrews possibly coming back… so not sure why youd look to bring him in after only 1 game. This site is all about reducing risks, playing the averages etc Just dont see why youd bring him in when you mention he has JS issue this week and the following. Wait a week

      1. At some point we need to take calculated risk as no rookie has absolute security .
Even considering trading Whiflield for Fyfe. Another risk but corky could mean 2 weeks off. I have been too conservative to date.

  3. Or 1 trade and valuable DPP for Byes.
By trading Atkins out and subbing T Kelly in midfield and Shai Bolton in forward line if named .
Whitfield and Coniglio injury could also pave way for Hately who surely will get opportunities this season

  4. A few points worth noting for long term planning.

    1. Our bye rds currently have us with 26/17/17 on the field, although the likes of Bines wont be scoring.
    2. We have 11 keepers, 12 if you include Walsh who could be a bona fide m8-11
    3. Many of our rookies will be ready to cull over the next three weeks. If you look at these 17 (excl Walsh and Bines), we will have approx $5.0million available…current value plus expected three week rise.
    4. The cost of bringing in 11 keepers ( keeping Walsh) at an average cost of $550k will be $6.05million.

We are actually in a very good position as the $1million shortfall should be substantially achievable over the year with emerging rookies.

I would think we would want 14-15 trades left after the byes..9 rds left. This will allow for injuries and double upgrades.

    Thus…

    – we need to start addressing the byes imbalance.
    – we can safely use 12-13 trades up to r14…..about 1.5 trades per round
    – we need to be raising cash…..quickly

Any comments ? I also like the great All saints idea of polls on who we would want to recruit on each line. We would then rank in priority order given byes, price, breakevens etc… My golf has been cancelled today…..I’ll fiddle with a target team suggestion for us to have after the byes, and post later today.

    1. Obviously we cant have 26 on field r12….that should read 26/17/17 available to be on field

    3. Great stuff Wighty.
Definitely need Lloyd and Sicily (12)
Either Fyfe and/or Merrett (both 12)
FWDs? Fu3k knows!!!! Boak’s Rd12 but too expensive right now.
      Happy planning mate 🙂

    1. Could also do Collins to Crisp if we think Crisp can be D6 for the year.
My guess for top 5 DEF is: Lloyd, Whitfield, Laird, Hurn, Sicily.
The last spot is up for grabs and could be Stewart, Crisp, Ryan, Rich?, Williams and maybe even Smith could stay at D6.

  5. Thanks for the positive comments. To summarise, and taking the byes into account, I would go the following with the round they are brought in, in brackets

J Kelly (9) after trading out Setterfield, Gibbons, Atkins, Petrucelle, Clark and Collins over Rds 7-9 for Young, Rotham, Answerth, Corbett, and a $123k rookie.

Cogs (10) after trading Baker and Scott for a $123k rookie

It gets complex after that, but in terms of priority and byes, after r12 we get Sicily Ryan and Fyfe, and after R13 Mundy Walters and Billings. The order of R13/14 inclusions can be reversed. The remaining rookies can be traded out for the above. Its likely that some trades will have to wait because of cash constraints.

By my calculations, thats 14 trades if all could be done by r14, leaving 14 trades for the run home. It might take a few extra downgrades to get there though, but we will have them.

Our team after the byes would then be

Whitfield, Laird, Smith, Ryan, Sicily, Lloyd (Hore, Rookie)…apologies to Hurn….his r14 bye doesnt work for us.

Cripps, Neale, Macrae, Oliver, M Crouch, Fyfe, J Kelly, Cogs (Walsh , rookie, rookie)

    Gawn, Grundy (ROB)

Danger, Heeney, T Kelly, Billings, Mundy, Walters (Bines for c loop, rookie)

So there you have it. Pull it apart, but perhaps have a go at it first before being too critical !! The r12 bye is a real priority.

    Cheers all !!

    1. I might add that I know after r13, we could include fwds from the R13 bye teams, but I still prefer Mundy, Walters, and Billings…two have dpp

  6. OK, Coaches……I’m just putting this out there………
    Collins downgrade to Young (WBD)
    Constable upgrade to Fyfe (FRE)
Is it worth putting to a poll?

    1. Reverse, say three Hail Marys, have a quick lie down, and then, start again refreshed.
