Written by Schwarzwalder on May 10 2019

Welcome back to the TEAM for 2019!  Where all the great SCT minds are shaping the ultimate TEAM………

I promised a new format last week……..and a new format is what you get!

HERE IS THE FIRST TEAM VIDEO ON YOUTUBE

Let me know in the comments if it’s something we should persevere with or if you prefer the written format that was here previously.

**Last 20 seconds has been cut off, basically I was just saying goodbye anyway 😉 **

ROUND SEVEN SUMMARY

ROUND SEVEN LINE-UP

**UPDATE at 6.45pm on 9/5/19**

Now that the teams have been announced, get your trade suggestions in tonight and I’ll have the polls ready in the morning based on the popularity on the Thumbs UP/DOWN function.  Thanks, Coaches!

**UPDATE at 11am on 10/5/19**

Looks like the consensus is to go with the double downgrade to Answerth & Corbett.  Question is, which rookies are getting the flick (1st poll)?

Which rookies are making way for Answerth(BRL) & Corbett(GCS)? (three choices)

  2. For what its worth, I follow the team closely. I lost interest in the video immediately when I couldn’t see the team straight up.
    Much prefer the previous way.

    1. All good……be honest……if it’s better with written format, I’d definitely like to know 😉

      1. No one likes change however it was good to hear the voice of Schwartz and nice touch to thank contributors.
I generally prefer to read rather then listen to any type of podcast and like to see team upfront however for a first up podcast I quite enjoyed it and gave a different insight

  3. Assuming both J Hately and N Answerth are named then a double downgrade involving 2 of Z Butters, J Clark and M Gibbons is a necessity.

If only 1 is named then Petrucelle to the Hoff would be the best course of action with the 2nd trade assuming we have sufficient funds to orchestrate that move if not then J Darling or T McDonald are other options which I assume will be met with disdain.

Also I assume the article will be updated throughout the next couple of days but I think it is essential to attach an image of the team to help with recommending trades and VC/C options.

    1. Avoid hately and darling…the later is a kpp who has played one good game against poor opposition

      1. Darling was only listed as option alongside TMac if we cannot afford the Hoff as this allows us to play 2 fwd rookies instead of 3 if 1 of Hately/Answerth are named.

In regards to Hately whilst his JS is suspect his scoring ability is high and only needs 2-3 games at around the 80+ level to reach 300,000. The rest of the bench rookies are very poor and are poor cash generators, so if he is named it’s necessary to jump on. Also I’ve recommend the likes of Hoff and Darling as sacrifices and compromises are needed to get close to full premium.

      1. Would like to wait until Dixon’s back. Will reassess when ROB has either peaked or worse, is dropped!

        1. What’s your thoughts on T McDonald as an option for J Petrucelle with only 80,000 separating them. Averaged 89+ in 3 of the past 4 season with 2 of those over 95. Currently priced at 357,800 with a break-even of 31. Has only managed 3 goals in 7 games this season in comparison to 53 goals from 20 matches last season.

    1. Anthony – pretty sure that danger Whitfield and Constable not playing didn’t affect your position – most serious players have all 3 of those too.

  5. I think Petruccelle and Gibbons should go.

I’ve recommended Gibbons above Butters as Gibbons is actually priced at his average. Butters may drop in price this week, but is currently priced nearly $30k under his average so may come back. Especially if he makes a decent score.

Petruccelle > Corbett makes sense. Good JS. Has spent time a little up the ground and scores ok without kicking goals. Burgess could be seen as his insurance policy, ie if he’s dropped it is likely Burgess is back playing 🙂

If Hately is named, he’s the obvious replacement for Gibbons. If he’s not and Answerth is named, then he’s likely a safe choice given Andrews should also be named. It also opens the loop with Duursma down back.

While Clark may also drop a little this week, a bit like Butters but more so, he still has more money to offer us (price v ave.).

That should set us up for some decent up/down trades over the next few weeks.

Let’s hope Setters and Whitfield are back and that Danger plays!

I liked the video idea, but agree with Adam above, that the TEAM should also be posted in the article so we can ponder over it for as long as we like.

    Thanks Schwarz. Great stuff!

  6. Video is good but I think you should still have an image of the team lineup on this page. That way people who can’t watch it can still be involved with the conversation and decision making

  7. I don’t mind having a video format and to be fair I don’t really contribute to changing of The Team@sct but still follow it. I think it would still be fairly helpful having a screenshot of the team and trades/cash so coaches can still quickly refer to the team.

Also what would be the go for captain choices/ on field rookies? Would that still be written with polls or more 1-2 minute videos on updates?

  8. I don’t mind the video format, but I think if it’s going to be used primarily to summarize what happened last week and where the team is at, then it should be shorter and more structured.

However, this first iteration has got me thinking. The TEAM is really a microcosm of all the participating coaches’ teams – for most participants, the TEAM will look fairly similar to their own. It follows, then, that discussions about the TEAM have relevance well beyond it. So, perhaps an alternative way of doing this would be to have the TEAM summary in the usual written/screenshot format, and to use the video to address more… probing questions. E.g.:
    • How is our bye structure looking?
    • What’s our rookies’ job security like heading into the byes?
    • How are we going on a trades-remaining vs upgrades required basis?
    • Is there an upcoming round that, due to scheduling, is difficult to find an appropriate VC/C combination for? If so, should we factor addressing that into our trading plans?
    • Are there any moves we should be pencilling in for a few weeks from now?
    • Do we have a longer-term plan?
Questions like these would probably suit a more stream-of-consciousness style, and would certainly get people thinking/talking.

    1. Great ideas Salamander and agree it would be great to do that. To make that happen tho’ sounds like a lot of work!

To help facilitate it, we need to structure it. Have an agenda if you like. The early part of the week, rather than conjecture about the trades we all might/might not make to our own teams, could be better spent analysing the TEAM, which can only help better inform our own decisions.

Eg we could do a Monday morning thread entitled:
      ‘The TEAM In Review’
      – with screenshots of the homepage (as the video started) and The TEAM as it finished the weekend (including bank & trades at the top).
With a brief synopsis of current situation and our long-term goals for the TEAM, we could then pose a series of questions for all SCTers to comment on under three distinct headings:
      SHORT-TERM PLANS
      BYE-PLANNING/STRUCTURE
      LONG-TERM CONSIDERATIONS/IDEAS

Feedback could then be used as content for the video, articulating key criteria for future TEAM success and recommendations for the coming week to achieve those goals.

Like I said, it’d be a lot of work!! Hmmmm.

      1. I didn’t actually have something quite that structured in mind…. my list of topics were just examples of different things it could discuss from week to week. This week, for example, it could have talked about the fact that the scheduling this round makes finding a good VC/C combination a tad harder than usual; perhaps followed by a brief overview of our bye balance.

But your idea could work, too.

  9. So many uncertainties this round, and with Danger not playing till Sunday, we have a potential problem with our lack of dpp’s…our bye structure is looking good though.

So, something a little left field……

Butters to Anseworth…..opening up m/d swing
Walsh to Mundy…opening up m/f swing

Looks like walsh has peaked, and he’s sure to get rested. I’d be happy to swing Mundy fwd later as a keeper. We could swing Mundy fwd for Setterfield this week, and have Drew onfield for bines, and petra on bench. Scott then becomes c loop as he is playing Sunday.

I think that all works, but probably goes out the door about 6.30 tonight

    1. I hear ya Wighty, but feels a bit knee-jerky to me. Put it another way, if Danger was playing this week would you consider Mundy as a priority Top6 for your FWD line? If the answer’s no, then we probably shouldn’t bring him in.

      3

      0
      1. As, I plan to have Mundy fwd…probably after his r12 bye. I have lots of flexibility dpp wise which The Team doesn’t, hence the different approaches time wise.

I would love to find a cheap dpp alternative, but I can’t see one this week.

        2

        1
        1. The other thing is we have plenty of trades, and Walsh to Fyfe only uses one, whereas walsh to another rookie, if one was available, would mean another trade required later most likely.

          1

          2
      2. Walsh is a gun and will play bloody well as long as Carlton play even half decent. Not the concern for now. The team sucks very bad.. we dont want to be playing petrol in the fwd line, but also having atkins and hayes/setters in the midfield is ridiculous. Clark to answerth and atkins to thr best prem we can afford. We need to use some dam trades and also use the loopholes wisely. Find it hard to see how such a great community could have such a bad team

      1. If we are going for cash, they are the only two ins I would suggest…..a couple of choices for outs.

  10. Enjoyed video format but bit too long for me. Prefer the old format with poll options. Great work on the site tho!

  11. Due to team selections an option could be
    Out: Z Butters and J Petrucelle/ M Gibbons (via W Setterfield)
In: N Answerth and J Westhoff

    1. Assuming the plan for next week if a double downgrade is executed is to upgrade Gibbons/Clark to a premium mid (less than 580,000) and loop Corbett and Setters at F6.

      5

  12. If we decide a double downgrade this week so we can afford an upgrade next week, then wouldn’t it be more smarter too trade out the players that are of least value and are more certain to loose value this week and use Butters for the upgrade next week? Eg which two of Clark, Gibbons and Petruccelle this week and Butters with the not chosen next?

    8

    0
    1. Makes complete sense. With Burgess a rare dpp for us, and price not going anywhere for now…he stays.Petro and Gibbons are both as fat as they will get it would seem.
Looks pretty straight fwd to Corbett and Answerth. Leaves $329k for another upgrade next week via Butters.
Scott c with his late game. Gawn v.

  13. 1 down grade and upgrade this week were sending out clark to answerth and then upgrading either willem drew (fwd) or scott(mid) to either a mid premo or fwd premo with 250k in the bank ??
