ROUND EIGHT SUMMARY
After the double downgrade last week, we were able to hold our position in the Rankings but got smashed in our League games. We were unlucky to have Atkins on the field with his 12pts, but couldn’t complain too much.
CURRENT LINE-UP
With any luck Whitfield comes back in this week, he’s been sorely missed. As I said above, we went through the double downgrade last week and now we have over $300k in the bank and still 24 (!) trades in hand.
There’s been plenty of talk about this years Rising Star (shoe-in…..change my mind!), Walsh of Carlton in the Trade Talk threads. I’m of the opinion that he’s done his job for Supercoaches everywhere and it’s the perfect time to cash him in for an elite MID (Fyfe, J.Kelly, Bont, Merrett) before he drops further towards $400k. I’ve searched for a 2nd upgrade but can’t find a viable trade.
Either we use just the one trade this week or downgrade to Hately or Stocker (which I’m not too keen on tbh). The trade ideas need to be run by our Coaching Staff as always. Drew and Atkins for Dunkley and Premo mid
We haven’t got sufficienct cash to do both this week. It’s either 1 or the other as there are no mid premiums under 380,000.
Think it’s necessary to keep S Walsh due to still having to field weak D6,M8 and F6 so options for this week could be:
TU:
Out: T Atkins, M Gibbons
In: J Kelly/Z Merrett/N Fyfe/etc, J Hately/L Stocker
100,000+ remaining salary
TD:

If we can afford it, Gibbons to Merrett?
The other option is Walsh to Jelly..
We can afford it and Walsh isn’t likely to drop a heap of cash and with a downgrade we can afford Gibbons to Kelly as I mentioned above.

Heeney to Dunkley while Heeney has some value.
Time to move Brodie Smith on. Will not be a top 10 defender, currently ranked 15th on average and 11th on points. With Luke Brown back in the side has now freed up Rory Laird.
$100, 00o to Lloyd or $112,000 to Hurn both – round 13 bye.
Still allows Walsh to be upgraded to whoever.
Firstly, I think we need to be aware of our position in bye rounds. Currently, our mix of available players by round is 25/19/16, but that includes Bines and Scott. With plenty of trades available, that’s not too bad a position to be in. Having said that, we need to avoid until after r12, any new keepers that have that bye (e.g. Fyfe).
Also, we are not going to make any further big leaps with the same players as most teams….we gotta scour for a worthy pod or two.
I think our next move is downgrades this week, depending on who is in/out, and if that is what we do, we must still keep an eye on byes. We can do at least one upgrade next week then.
Hately r14 bye is unfriendly adding to his risk, and Stocker has the same bye.
Lets see what happens tonight, but lets also keep an eye on byes when making suggestions.
Why no love?
Whatever we do needs to leave cash in the bank. There’s going to be next to no downgrade targets again next week and so there won’t be an easy 1 up 1 down trade. If we spend all the bank we better be bloody happy with what we have onfield.
Could go:
B Smith – > Dunkley (via setterfield and duursma)
And
Gibbons -> Rockliff
This would leave the only onfield rookies as: duursma, hore, answerth, walsh, setterfield, drew and Baker.
Not necessary to get rid of B Smith yet as we have more holes to fix. Will need to reassess in Rd14 as he could be traded out on his bye for a player coming off their bye such as L Ryan or S Hurn.
Atkins and Gibbons -> Jelly and Stocker, as per Adams post above, best use of cash available, 2 cooked cows gone for 1 uber premo and a cow who will get fatter
Who do we play R14 ?? Do we abandon hope of winning that round ? All the good options this week seem to be adding to the already imbalance we have re that round.
You think all of the rookies will be gone on or before that round Wighty. Therefore less of a concern than the current balance suggests!
I agree As, but it still means that we must be aware of the imbalance when trading in those prems.
“Stevz” plan looks even better after selections.
No Cogs, more Jelly, and even Hately looks promising.
Stocker will probably get less attention too………but please, no doggies this week against Geelong.
Ps It wouldn’t surprise me if there 2 late outs.

What do we do with Crouch now he’s out? Pyke is confident it’s a one week injury but a small tear is usually more.
I suspect it will be more than 1 week…these injuries always are. We have the trades, lets poll on who he goes for.
And, Hately only named on a big list of i/c. Wait till Sunday and he only comes in for Gibbons if he (Hately) is named.
Why have people voted for Hately?
Moving forward, I reckon each week, the v goes on whoever plays first of Grundy and Gawn….one less decision to be made, and we all know where we stand. Vote in the Queens Birthday Round.
