The TEAM – Rd5

Written by Schwarzwalder on April 20 2017

Everyone on the SCT website is part of the TEAM!  One of the largest Community TEAM experiments in existence………

Rd4 Score: 2020

Overall Ranking: 19040

Trades Left: 28

Remaining Salary: $101 900

Trade History

Rd4 – Mitchell Hibberd (NTH) to Nic Newman (SYD) & Max Gawn (MEL) to Stefan Martin (BRL)

After much deliberation last week, I feel we made the right decision to bring in Stefan Martin for the injured Max Gawn.  2020 wasn’t a massive score but we held our position overall and managed to win 9/10 League games.  Our current line-up……….

We have 28 trades & $101k in hand and there are some viable downgrade options ahead of Rd5.  We have a number of under-performing rookies and mid-pricers that are looking shaky right now.  I’d be seriously looking at upgrading/downgrading O’Meara & Roughead and (hopefully) letting the rookies appreciate in value a little longer.

I’m not alone however 😉  Everyone can enter trade suggestions in the comments below, myself included.  You’ll need to convince the Coaching Staff of your moves as always (Thumbs UP/DOWN).  Trade polls (if any) will be posted after teams are announced on Thursday night.  So what moves would you make to the TEAM?  Should we make any?  Fire away, Coaches!

** UPDATE at 6.45pm on 20.4.17 **

Well Coaches, the team selections have thrown up a few surprises.  Newman dropped is the biggest one for me but we’ll hold him for now. Balic being omitted is the biggest spanner in the works but there are other options for downgrading (early).  O’Meara still not named suggests alarm bells for me.  I’m all for getting rid of him.  Judging by the comments below and team selections, it’s probably best to hold Roughead for another week.  But it’s not up to me alone.  Should we make any trades at all?  It’s all up to you!  VOTE NOW!!

Should the TEAM make any trades this week?

  • YES (78%, 100 Votes)
  • NO (22%, 29 Votes)

Total Voters: 129

** UPDATE at 9am on 21.4.17 **

OK Coaches……as you can see from the polls above, it’s fairly clear the Coaching Staff is looking to trade this week.  O’Meara and Taranto are on the chopping block.  With Balic out, I’m assuming we’re breaking the Josh Glenn Rule and bringing in Zac Fisher a week early (unless someone makes a strong case for Long or Berry before tonights game).  This leaves us with a slight problem though……..

We voted to bring in a premium MID but we have $562 400 to spend.  We can bring in Marc Murphy for that cash but it drops off fairly quickly after that (in terms of potential elite MIDs).  The following poll includes premium FWDs as an option.  I just want to be sure in the direction we’re heading here.  Whoever is chosen in the following poll, keep in mind that it will (most likely) be for the rest of the year.  You have five choices……….

With $562 400 available to spend, which premium comes into the TEAM this week? (five choices)

  1. am considering holding on to JOM for a few weeks longer (assuming he gets named this week), feeling like it’s a rushed decision to trade him out so soon. what do you think?

    T/U: hold
    T/D: trade now

  2. I know that at most, 3% of people will agree with me on this, but I’m putting it out there anyway: Shaw –> Lloyd.

Having said that, fixing the O’Meara and Roughead situations are probably more urgent.

      1. Agree. Once Heeney, McVeigh and Rohan return in the next couple of weeks we should get a real good look at the plans for Sydneys rotations and if he can keep it up.

    1. 30 downvotes is a record for me, so I must say I’m quite impressed 😀

The reasons that people have set out for holding off on this are quite reasonable; if things continue as they are, perhaps we should revisit this question in another month or so.

      1. It’s not even that Lloyd’s a bad pick, it’s just that trading Shaw for him is a terrible move. Even if Shaw continues to average 85, which I think is very unlikely, what is Lloyd gonna get 95ish?That’s only a 10 point gain, the teams got much bigger problems then Shaw. For example, Schwarz’s suggestion of Rough and Omeara for a rookie and premium can get an extra 40ish points plus cash generation.

        1. I completely understand this point of view, and it is not without merit. Moreover, I can certainly understand if people here want to be conservative about these kinds of moves.

I made this exact move in my own team last week, but then again my trading style has always been… proactive. Some of my bolder trades will tend to polarise people, but, lucky for me, SuperCoach is not a popularity contest. I will say, however, that when I have made these kinds of moves in the past, they have usually worked.

In any case, I agree that the TEAM has more pressing issues than Heath Shaw.

        1. 60! This is fantastic… let’s see if we can get it up to 100 downvotes by the start of tomorrow night’s match.

          1. 10 to go. 57 minutes. Come on people, you can do this!

Also, just out of curiosity, what is the record for the greatest number of thumbs-down for a single post on SCT?

  3. Have to hold O’Meara and use him to step up to a fallen premium later on. That was probably the plan with Roughy too but geez he’s stinking it! Balic must come in, for either Roughy or Taranto.

    1. You don’t buy premo’s during the season for over 600k. Look at Dusty last week! Wait to someone falls to that 550k mark is how you win this game!!

      1. Whilst the fallen premium theory is not entirely without merit, you don’t win the competition by sitting around waiting.

        17

        3
      2. But the rookies aren’t making enough for you to afford all these 600k players! I’ll keep doing it my way and finish higher overall than those that thumb downed my comment i guess…

  4. Roughead(388,800)>Balic(123,900)
    Taranto(250,800)>Selwood(608,800)
    leaves 8,800 ITB
The reason i picked Selwood was to add an extra premium to the round 12 bye week.

  5. Personally I would keep Roughie and just go JOM to Balic.

But this is everyones team so…….

T/U Keep Roughie , Upgrade somewhere else first.

T/D Trade Roughie. We need the $ for the best Premium Mid.

  6. I think we need to continue to be patient with Rough and JOM.

Given Eddy us not playing I suggest we trade him out for Balic and gain more DPP bench versatility.

  7. In all probability it will come down to a poll on Thursday night re: Roughy & JOM. Neither are scoring too well or producing cash generation for the TEAM. Personally I’d have no qualms about moving them on for Balic and a premo MID or FWD (leaning to a FWD premo for team balance/rookies/etc), especially with 28 trades in hand. Depending on team selections on Thursday night, one or two of the rookies might also come into calculations (especially Florent/Taranto)…….

  8. What are your thoughts on Shaw. Is he worth trading out as he hasn’t performed and is now possibly injured for a week.

    1

    19
    1. The Coaching Staff picked him as a keeper for the season. He’d have to be travelling really badly or be heavily injured before we gave him the boot. Reckon we have bigger fish to fry at the moment. A lot will depend on team selection tomorrow night…..

    2. 2015 Average 1-4: 93, Rest of season: 117
      2016 Average 1-4: 90, Rest of season: 110
      2017 Average 1-4: 85, Rest of season: ???

That 85 includes the injured game otherwise he was tracking for a 92-95 game which puts his average at about 89.

Trading out Shaw is preposterous given his capabilities to go large to boost his average again.

Worst case, he drops his average down to 100 for the rest of the year and is still a top Defender for the year.

  9. I am not convinced that Roughy’s output will improve. Hawthorn are a shadow of the side that could be relied upon to give silver platter service to its forwards.
The reason JOM’s price was so cheap at the beginning of the year was his lack of games last year due to injury and as he appears to still be afflicted by the same injury, will his output improve for us to earn some coin?
Omera’s average is 68 plus Roughy’s 77 gives us 145 points per week and little cash growth.
Premium (e.g. Sloane) 129 + Balic 56 gives us 185 points plus cash accumulation.
I think the figures speak for themselves!

  10. I notice Murph is leading the poll. My first hesitation was around him being a season long keeper but looking at the stats I think he is worth the investment … in 2015 he averaged 100+ which included a low score in rd1 … after rd1 he was very consistent with ten scores over 100 and only three scores under 90 (incliding one red vest of 85) … given his past consistency I think he can continue his form and avg 110+ for the season.

    Thoughts…

    1. I got my doubts on Murph to be honest. If you started with him, you’ve done very well. I just don’t see him as a Top10 MID for the season. I’m leaning more towards JJK & Buddy in the FWD line. But it’s not my decision to make………..go with your gut feeling! If that takes us to Murph then so be it………

      1. Cheers Schwarzwalder, I am torn as I did not see him as a top ten mid a month ago but his form is too good to ignore. Also, I have Hanners and Parker ear-marked as top ten mids and they are struggling. Undecided. I will ask the coaches in the ‘Last Minute Queries Thread’ and go from there …

  11. Given a lack of reliable upgrade or downgrade options I honestly think it would be better to hold off trading this week and reassess next week.

    1. I hear ya, Tebs. But the polls are quite clear on this one. 78% of the Coaching Staff voted to go ahead with the trades. Majority rules, even if it’s a small majority……
