Rd4 – Mitchell Hibberd (NTH) to Nic Newman (SYD) & Max Gawn (MEL) to Stefan Martin (BRL)

Rd5 – Tim Taranto (GWS) to Zac Fisher (CAR) & Jaeger O’Meara (HAW) to Marc Murphy (CAR)

Rd6 – Sam Powell-Pepper(PTA) to Harley Balic (FRE) & Jarryd Roughead (HAW) to Lance Franklin (SYD)

Rd7 – Brandan Parfitt (GEE) to James Parsons (GEE)

Rd8 – Dan Houston (PTA) to David Myers (ESS) & Curtly Hampton (ADE) to Taylor Adams (COL)

I’m not going to mince words here, Coaches.  I’m a little disappointed that we went with Myers over Berry last week as our downgrade target.  With the lack of good rookies, we’re going to have to find a way to raise funds over the next few weeks if we’re to upgrade anywhere.  Myers would’ve been the obvious choice for this week………

We didn’t go large last week with our 2086 but still managed to sneak away with seven League wins.  We also held our Ranking so hopefully we can slowly start to climb up again.  (And yes, we had Newman on the field.  I was going to take Marchbank’s 63 ahead of Stewart’s score)  😉  Line-Up is as follows……….

Personally I’d love to move on our FWD rookies, they are killing us.  Problem is, I’m not sure how we’re going to do that.  Otten could be downgraded and Butler upgraded but to whom?  Let’s open up the floor to trade suggestions……….

As always, anyone can make trade suggestions and they will be judged by the Coaching Staff with the Thumbs UP/DOWN function.  Give us your best, Coaches!  What changes would you make if this was your TEAM?

** UPDATE at 8pm on 18.5.17 **

Good and bad news at the selection table, Coaches.  Parsons managed to get another game & Treloar is back but Balic (personal reasons) & Butler (injury) are out.  That leaves us with a donut in the FWD line since Florent is named as emergency.  Now that we went early on Myers, we’re in a bit of a pickle!  I’ve entered a suggestion in the comments below.  We may have to simply take a chance on O’Connor/McNiece anyway (hope for the best) in order to upgrade Butler to a premium FWD.  Give me your thumbs UP/DOWN so I know which way wou’d like to go (can put up more polls on Friday.)  Or if anyone else has a better suggestion??  In the meantime, we’ll take care of the Captains poll for the TEAM……..

    1. and if McNiece not named? Defensive downgrade target?

looking at McInnes myself but not sold on JS and one game in

      1. The only other i can think of is Sharenberg (pies) at $164k – thinking he’ll play this week after two massive games in the VFL and Ben Reid’s injury, but would be super ballsy to get him early given his injury history.

    1. Yeo Or JJK will work better with their round 12 bye and Greene is coming back this week and I am not sure how that will affect Camerons score

  1. Geeze that forward line is horrendous and needs to be fixed – the only downgrade I’m making to my team this week is Myers (from Butler) and I’m not confident in any of the other rookies in the bubble – so that doesn’t leave us many options at all.

I think the first option post here is the best of a bad bunch!

  2. Maybe we should keep Butler as he is the best of a bad bunch (Pickett, Parsons, Eddy, Balic & Florent), and is likely to keep playing. If we go Otten to McNeice then we can still go Florent or Balic to a premium fwd

  3. Next week, we should take a look at Paddy Ryder. He’s averaging 93, and will already have had his bye.

  4. Or, if people are willing to take a short-term gamble, we could also consider Pedersen. He has already had his first price rise, but he is still affordable, and he still has 4-6 weeks of solo-ruck type scoring before Spencer gets back, after which he can be used as a stepping-stone to a proper premium. Given how few trades we have used thus far, we could definitely get away with such a manoeuvre.

    1. Gawn back round 12 (after Dees bye) so only two more solo games for him, don’t mind the outside of the box thinking however doesn’t seem worth it

      1. Fair enough. I’ve already brought him in, so it will end up being worth it for me, but if Gawn is going to be back as soon as you say, then the TEAM has probably missed the boat on this one.

  5. Pickett, Butler, Eddy and Balic all out this week, which means that the Teams forward line is in some hot water. Trading Balic or Butler will give us the most money to utilise either now or for the coming byes rounds….

  6. T/U – Otten to cheap DEF (O’Connor / McNiece) & Butler to premo FWD

    T/D – Different suggestion (comment)

    1. O connor looks a nothing move. Mcniece not named.

Josh Jenkins out so Otten will play forward where he has scored well.

Keep Otten this week. Bring a cheap defender (McInnes) in as a forward to cover the forward donut issue.

When jenkins comes back in probably next week ditch Otten, swing McInnes back, and bring in Stewart on the bubble.

    1. I’m with you Roos. Our primary focus for the next few weeks should cash generation for the bye rounds. Stewart for Butler this week, Lloyd for Balic next week, and so on.

We need to think outside the box. I’d even consider trading Otten to Berry as our second trade this week. The boy will play and we make another $150k.

Three trades over the next 2 weeks nets us $370k and a total of ~$450k. Not spectacular, but a handy little warchest for the byes.

  7. would not be taking a chance on O’Connor. Didn’t look up to AFL standard against the bombers (not that the cats in general did) but i don’t rate his chances of playing many games.

  8. Have you thought to use walters as a stepping stone. Change of roles playing up the ground scoring ver well and has a -Ive be I think.

  9. Can’t see any cheap Defensive options so I would trade Butler to McCluggage as I think he has the best job security and potential cash generation of any Forward rookie. Also has DPP which may come in handy over byes with Florent etc.
If you want to get rid of Otten without costing too much how about Burton. Seems to have gone under the radar a bit.

      1. Burton is averaging 90, is the 13th ranked Defender and 19th ranked Forward and doesn’t have his bye till round 13 so would be invaluable over the byes.
He could then be easily traded to either a Def or Fwd premium in round 13.

  10. Butler is done. Trade time. What about McInnes (Fwd/Def) to go in as a forward, then shift him back next week and bring in James Stewart when he is on the bubble?

Balic also looks like he is done due to personal issues so you might still have space for Stewart for Balic via Pickett’s dpp.

Stewart may have scored 91 but his history is disturbing. I would want him on the bubble before I would take him, but you have to work with available cattle.

McInness has the Round 12 Bye which is very handy.

Shai Bolton is also dpp – Fwd/Mid. One to watch in future weeks, but not yet.

  11. SPP > Myers
    Butler > Heeney

Wanted to keep SPP for a few more weeks but would cop a donut this week (have wines in midfield too) and have to get myers in with the carnage that is rookies.

  12. I just want to point out that our Bye structure is as follows:
    13 players missing in Rd11
    5 players missing in Rd12
    9 players missing in Rd13
    Plus Eddy, Strandica and Balic

I am really struggling to find anything that a majority could agree upon. Keep the suggestions coming in but this Round might be the first time that I use some ‘executive power’……..

    1. We need some rnd 12 players in or round 11 is going to be catastrophic. Otherwise we need to consider Gold Coast/Port Adelaide players.

Ryder in next week might be viable. We have plenty of underperforming or not playing Fwd/Mids.

But the main issue is we need to lose Butler, and the best options to do so are Stewart and McInnes. A bit of left field thinking can probably look at trading in a midfielder and a bit of the old dpp shuffle.

At the moment GWS rookies have the most job security based on injuries, but their list depth is so long that a poor game can see an equivalent replacement.

Maybe Stewart is the answer. It at least buys until R13.
