  1. Good call Motts. I’ve always wondered ‘why 5pm Thursday?’. Correct me if I’m wrong but NRL teams are released Wednesdays? What’s the dif?

  2. Wed would be great… but even an extra 2 hours, at 3pm would be whoresome… 5pm is the worst time… most folk are busy trying to finish off their work day and get out the door.

Actullly, this becomes occ health and saftey issue for AFL… because this forces me and many others to try and review teams and SC App in my car on the iPhone while driving…. and I hold AFL accountable. Release the teams at 3pm god dam it!

  3. It is such an inconvenient time to release them. There are 600,000 fantasy coaches out there that want the information 2 hours earlier when they’re sitting at their desks with the mouses hovering over either an S or a T. Not when they’re standing on an overcrowded tram on their way home with a million other things on their minds.

Give the public what it wants!!

And while you’re at it, Andy. Make Friday football live!!!

    Here endeth the rant.

  4. It’s not the AFL’s fault on this one (unlike LIVE FOOTY FOOTY FOOTBALL), teams have Thursday’s afternoon training sessions and after that depending on how well/unwell players pull up or perform, then coaches announce their sides.

  5. Joel Selwood to be named… Chris Scott not 100% guarantee that he’ll play, says that he is remarkably good but if there any signs that he isn’t right then he would miss.

Selection drama if you ask me… if doesn’t play to late to do anything about it. To risk or not risk???

Lucky I don’t have to worry.

  6. What ticks me off the most is every round should have the partial lockout option and once Friday’s game start you should be still able to move you’re players around for the remaining games. And so on for Saturday’s, Saturday nights, Sunday’s and Sunday nights. It’s not that hard to do and it would make life a lot easier for everyone.

    That my Rant, peace.

  7. I think the Selwood issue will be resolved before the lockout. I’m sure they will name him and if he’s on the flight to Perth he will play. They wouldn’t bother sending him overthere if he wasn’t 100% going to play.

  8. guys, do GC/kanga/adelaide player’s prices change only after round 4 (as they would have only then played 3 games) ??

  11. I honestly can’t believe that Geelong are playing Selwood. I have to agree with Eddie Everywhere on this one. Here was a guy who was unconscious for 3 minutes and Geelong want to potentially exacerbate his condition by putting him on a plane for 4 hours?? And then in a full contact footy game?

    Care to comment, Big Sexy?

  12. I’m now unsure if I should put Selwood on the field or not.

My spidey senses tell me he won’t play a full game, or will get pulled out last minute.

  13. Motts has just taken him off the field. Geelong may not have the common sense to but Motts does. The last thing Motts wants is for Joelwood to play 2 minutes, cop a hit, and then get dragged for a score of 2.

Motts had Thahgdghhghgh last year when that happened.

  14. Wow! Ur a changed man!

Actually I think ur afraid of another 24 points eh Motts?

So am I in all honesty.

  16. If Geelong aren’t going to play him, they’d be dopey to fly him there. If any SCT followers work at the airport, we’d love an update.

  17. Nice, succinct work, Nicko.

The Swallow v Harris question is a common one this week – I’ve just polled it.

  18. One quick question, Ryan Gamble Or Cameron Richardson?????, Im thinking Gamble because he is versing richmond and there best defender is out i think

  19. On a normal day I would say Richardson, but against Richmond you may be right with Gamble, tough call though….still I would choose Richardson I think

  20. As a North fan i find it ridiculous that he isn’t named. He was brilliant for us last week, one of our best.

  21. Missed the boat on Cox, big mistake not having him in the team. I am going to do a quick upgrade to get him in the team, have cash but need to downgrade Gamble to either McKernan or Matera, then will upgrade Hale to Cox (With Fraser and Smith on the bench as cash cows). Any suggestions as who to choose between Mckernan and matera? Will McKernan keep his spot when Tippet gets back?

  22. Are you a North fan, RB? I just thought you were REALLY keen on Mark Ricciuto and Nick Riewoldt 😉

  23. I don’t think there will be a huge difference in their scores.
Just go with your gut as Duigan had a good game last week but we haven’t seen Toy play yet so your call buddy 🙂

  24. I know this against a LOT of rules you put up a couple of weeks ago but I missed out on big Swanny so I can trade out Cross or Selwood?
    What do you guys think?

  25. Yeah my gut feeling was for Duigan as well.
Worried that being named as an interchange player might make Toy a sub and like you said, we haven’t seen him play yet.
    Thanks for advice 🙂

  26. Which two of these play in the midfield?
Foley, Heppell, Selwood, Swallow, Harris, Liberatore

Which two of these play in the midfield?
    Darling, Boomer, Matera, Petrie

    Goodes to improve his score?
    Boomer to improve his?

  27. No! Imagine if Swan goes sub-100 this week. Would that change how you think about him? His price won’t change until after this round anyway. Patience is a virtue. Relax.

  28. Will Coad play? WCE did same last week with Gaff and he played? I thought Coad was the better over Toy? Any GCS fans care to help out?
    Any GCS fans full stop!?

  29. Motts, This is my ‘personal’ opinion….. most folk have been KO’d one way or another, and I firmly believe if it is mild you are good to go that night or the next day. If it’s a bad KO like Selwood, then then next day is like a bad hangover, the day after is usually not too bad (with main reminance being phyisical… i.e. fat lip)….. but after 8 days, I really don’t think waiting another week will make a lick of difference except to his fat lip. Sure, if it happens again… not good. but even if it happens again in another 6/7 days later, it’s still not good. Anything can happen on a footy field, and I would be very surprised if it impacted his game at all, other than mental attack onn the footy…. and Selwood, being Selwood… I doubt. I heard him quoted in his very first season when asked why he goes in so hard, he answered “because the guy not going in the hardest always gets hurt” and that is also why I think his awesome!

  30. Crabby, I think it’s easy… I have him. If he play’s, you need to play him…. that’s why we have emergencies. Even if he’s subbed in or off for half a game he’ll still score 60-80 like any rookie. I hope you’re not thinking about trading….

  31. I doubt they’d be worth their effort playing those sort of games just yet….. unless legit withdrawal.

  32. hey guys just wondering how good drew petrie will be this year ?? i have z smith gold coast and a cordy dogs on the bench and seeby as my numer 2 ruck at the moment

bench seeby and play smith ??? what is going to be the best guys need some help please…

  33. Agree with Big Sexy. We all picked Selwood for a reason…. He is a hard nut star…

He will be starting in my side. Emergency will cover if he is a late withdrawal…

  34. Rob, why not wait 1 more week, Adelaide has the bye so Mckernan wont go up until after round 3 and you get a look at Matera this week, Cox wont go up in price until round 3, so after this weekend you will know more about Matera anyway.

  35. Even worse for Motts is when he puts Joel on the bench, and the
Cats play Selwood on the wing of a very big ground and the young man scores 150.

    It’ll be like a hot curry, double-burn.

    0

    0
  36. Yeah. It’s an interesting call. Definetly not trading him, but thinking that if he does get a game, chances are he’ll only play 60-70% of the game, and will do so pretty cautiously (if that word is in Selwoods vocab).
    It’s him or Irons… Tough.

  37. Why is Sea-biscuit out? Injured or dropped? If dropped, that raises some concerns. If injured, you at least know when he is due back. Swans payed a bucket load to bring him over from WC, so should play a bit unless Horse really is not a fan.

So Smith is playing, I’d suggest just to bench him for the moment. You still have until Rd 5 to bring in Petrie before his price changes, and you get the benefit of seeing how he goes 1st.

  38. Thanks Brad,
I was a little unsure of Selwood playing a whole match. I’ll have an emergency to cove if he’s dropped, but its the part game that worries me.
Hopefully Foley, Boomer and Goodes lift their games.

Any thoughts on Heppell vs Swallow vs Harris?

    Hey Motts or others
What did you make of Ed Curnows game is he the ball magnet people who watch more VFL games than i do tell me he is . I’m told he came 4th in the liston and only played 2/3 of the season is he worth a look if he plays well this week .
PS Thanks for the tip on Browny last week you said injury’s would get him but didnt see that injury coming anyway went for buddy instead hopefully he comes good this week

  42. Chasing some advice from you astute fellow SCT followers to stay with the top 200. Proposed lineup as follows:
Gibbs, Delidio, Duffield, Hurn, Lower, Heppell, Duigan
    Stanley (E), Pederson, Coad
Goddard (C), Pendlebury, Judd, Watson, Bartell, Harris
    D Swallow (E), Bewick, I Smith
Reiwoldt, Franklin, Rioli, McGlynn, Krakouer, Petrie, Tapscott
    Richardson (E), Darling, Knights

    All advice appreciated.

  43. Trade Goddard out for T Taylor. :=

Nah, looks the most likely best line up. Toss of a coin for Tapscott vs Darling.

  44. I’m totally with you BS. If they play him then they think he is good to go and I reckon he’ll play majority of the game. If they are unsure they shouldn’t play him at all and then the emergencies come in.

  45. wasn’t goldstein out for north last week and no petrie, so cox had no real ruck opponent last week – don’t be too quick to jump on him – plus he ran into the ground although probably shouldn’t really impact him

  46. unless you were unfortunate and got one of the LTI guys last week, there should be no need for changes until at least round 3…

  47. New Sub-Theory Discussion point: Callan Ward is my case in point this week: He is a mid-pricer, which may well have been an error, but as a result, I have too many good players on the bench. It’s a toss between Krak-Hour, Swallow Dive, and Ward – all potential 100pts on a good day. Because Rodney Rude is annoying, he may well put Ward as his sub, because Ward is so talented, and can therefore fill many gaps…This may well happen in the future, where very good players are the sub, rather than fringe players. Any thoughts?

    0

    0
  48. do you have the option to move krak forward and put a weaker DPP fwd onto the midfield bench. I like all your options as starting on the ground.
Personnally I would have subs as lower fitness, but high impact players who can kick a goal or two – but that’s just my logic…

  49. Swallow instead of Harris, I think Harris will get a tagging role on Judd or Murphs, that’s what Bluey got him for.

    0

    0
  50. I agree that Harris will tag Judd but I think that will be a positive as tackling and contested ball is his game and Juddy will certainly take him to the pill. My concern on Swallow is that Carrots or someone else will tag him as happened with A Selwood in the nab cup game over here when he struggled.

  51. Players to watch this week:

Young Guns – Curnow, Tapscott, Lower, Darling, Tarrant, Krakouer, Heppell – can they keep it up or are they one-hit-wonders?

Yarran – will he score big as a forward and stop the SC whinging or will he be the most dropped player before Rd3?

Selwood – will he play a full game or get a rest halfway and bring his average and price tag down in a screaming heap?

Hodge – will he be the Hawk’s achilles heal or even worse re-injure that dodgy tendon?

Reiwoldt N, Franklin, Goodes, Foley, Cross, Boak, Boyd, Didak, Harvey – Premium can’t go sub 100 two weeks in a row without causing SC panic.

Karmichael Hunt – will he forget the rules and smash Waite in a spear tackle?

GC – Stanley, Swallow, Harris, Matera, Smith – will they make it easier for SCs to name their Es.

Ryder – is he a viable alternative to Sandi/Cox?

Dawes – if he can get over 100 again he’ll start the tongues wagging.

Gamble – there’s been plenty of gambling on this bloke. Is he an Ace up the sleeve of just a joker?

  52. I’d take JS at 50% over Irons (or any rookie for that matter) every day of the week. I really don’t see the issue here. I’ll have Selwood on the field and have an emergency in place (Harris).

    0

    0
  53. Irons scored 68 last week in a tough debut against the Pies away. This week he faces WC at home and has been named as a starter. That makes him worth serious consideration as a Selwood replacement I reckon.

  54. he won’t be a late withdrawal … we will know today if he was on the plane and if he’s on the plane he will play!!

  55. Won’t be long before the Bombers get smashed and Hird finds himself in the wilderness looking for options. Enter Hibberd…

  56. I agree with PA. Swallow before Harris. Don’t forget Harris spent the whole of last year in VFL. He’ll take a while to get up to speed in a tagging role and Juddy will monster him first up.

  57. DEF – Got Lower, Duigan & Heppel on the field, should I switch any of these for Stanley?

MID – Got D Swallow on the field, anyone out of Libba, Bewick or Harris to sub him for?

FWD – Got Tappscott, A Krak, Darling & Petrie on the field, should I switch any of these with Matera or C Richardson?

  59. Ok so I made a decision (finally!) 2 trades this week.

Have traded Ed Barlow for Libba (also WB) leaving money up my sleeve to allow an upgrade of Jolly to Cox. Happy 🙂

  61. This can’t be right. At quarter time:

    Milne 73
    Gram 59
    Fisher 68
    Goddard 63 (Glad I made him C!)
    Dal Santo 60
    N Rewoldt 47

    J Reiwoldt 0!
    Vickery 57
    Grigg 52
    Deledio 50

  62. Does anyone know where to get reliable QbyQ stats?

    How does this work? Q1 > Q2:

    Milne 73 > 68
    Gram 59 > 66
    Fisher 68 > 63
    Goddard 63 > 64 (Glad I made him C!)
    Dal Santo 60 > 75
    N Rewoldt 47 > 67

    J Reiwoldt 0! > 00000
    Vickery 57 > 53
    Grigg 52 > 66
    Deledio 50 > 64
    Martin ? > 73

Doesn’t make sense. These stats from FootyFan.

  63. Now have to find a replacement for Hayes, fantastic.
Could the saints PLEASE win a game for me sometime this year? I can’t stand this Friday night $hit (especially after waiting for better homes and gardens to finish). KTHXBYE.

  65. Yeppers but Hayes will still be the same value won’t he? or will he go down AFTER the completion of this round? If so, farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrk. I was going for him as a little kind of POD as everyone seemed to have Joey (11) from St. Kilda.
I’ve got Goddard as Captain too this week. Fun times.

  66. Just for the hell of it, Q1 > Q2 > Q4:

    Milne 73 > 68 > 141
    Gram 59 > 66 > 67
    Fisher 68 > 63 > 121
    Goddard 63 > 64 > 102 (hmm should’ve gone Swan/Judd for C!)
    Dal Santo 60 > 75 > 107
    N Rewoldt 47 > 67 > 95

    J Reiwoldt 0! > 00000
    Vickery 57 > 53 > 69
    Grigg 52 > 66 > 126
    Deledio 50 > 64 > 136
    Martin ? > 73 > 92

    Now work this out,
    Chris Newman; 79 DT = 134 SC
    Daniel Jackson; 91 DT = 145 SC

Have you seen a bigger diff?

  67. sure hope so Scatts, he is 500k + (just!)
How long do knees keep people out for generally? (I will trade him regardless, but wanting to know as a supporter not for my SC). I love Lenny Heart-of-Gold Hayes *sob*
