    *ITS HARD TO SAY GOODBYE…
A retrospective look on the players who will leave the game behind this year….

Chad Cornes (PORT)- 2011 AV: 71.2/ CAREER AV: 98.7
Son of VFL/SANFL legend Graham Cornes & brother of team mate Kane.
Made his debut against the Crows in rnd 6, 1999. Began his journey as a successful key forward, causing damage alongside Warren Tredrea. A switch to defense in 2004 allowed his game to flourish & have his best season. In that year, he was able to lead Port to the premiership, earn his first All Australian selection & come 3rd in the Brownlow. A tough & versatile player who can not only go forward or back but also inject himself into the midfield. Injuries have got the better of Cornes within the last few seasons yet he’ll be remembered for his no nonscence approach to football & being one of adelaides favourite sons.
    AFL Awards: 3rd Brownlow Medal 2004, All-Australian 2004 & 2007, International Rules Series 2002, Rising Star Nominee Round 10, 2000
Club Awards: 2nd Best & Fairest 2007, 3rd Best & Fairest 2002, Most Improved Player 2002, Best Finals Player 2005.

Jamie Charman (BRIS)- 2011 AV: 0.0/ CAREER AV:69.9
During his career for the Lions, Charman provided hardness in the ruck. Used his intensity at the ball & tackling prowess to get the edge over his opponents. Had the athleticism to be used as a strong marking forward when needed. Made his debut in 2001 rnd 5, earned himself Brisbane’s best rookie in 2002 before being a premiership player in 2003. Plagued by injuries throughout most of his career, Charman’s ability to play hurt not only inspired his Brisbane team mates but also showed his strength of character.
AFL Awards: AFL Rising Star Nomination (2002), AFL Hall of Fame Tribute Match Representative (2008)
Club Awards: Lions Best Rookie (2002), Lions Premiership Player (2003), Lions Team of the Decade Member (2006).

Barry Hall (WBD)- 2011 AV:70.4/ CAREER AV: 95.6
Love him or hate him…Big Bad Bustling Barry Hall will be remembered as one of the games most damaging forwards of all time. Making his debut in rnd 9, 1996 with St Kilda, he quickly filled the void of Tony Lockett’s departure until the end of 2001 when the rise of Riewoldt, Koschitzke & the acquisition of Fraser Gehrig played a hand in his decision to move to Sydney (imagine if he stayed…what a forward line!). His move allowed Barry to come into his own, having his best seasons at the Swans & leading their goal kicking from 2002 to 2008 as well as winning the 05′ premiership. Joining the Bulldogs in 2010, he made a huge impact that season by finishing 2nd in the Coleman & had a pivotal role in gettin the doggies into finals contention.Throughout his career, controversy has dogged this elite forward with his hot headed intensity torwards the footy & to opposition players. Despite this, he surely will be best remembered as one of the last few true power forwards of the game & the only player to kick 100 goals at three different clubs. A champion.
    AFL Awards: Michael Tuck Medal 2010; Sydney best and fairest 2004; Sydney 2nd best and fairest 2005; All-Australian 2004, 2005, 2006; International Rules Series 2003, 2006 (co-captain); Sydney leading goalkicker 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008; Sydney co-captain 2005-07; Sydney premiership side 2005
Club Awards: Pre-season premiership side 2010; Western Bulldogs leading goalkicker 2010.

Daniel Bradshaw (SYD)- 2011 AV: 0.0/ CAREER AV: 86.6
Began his career with the Lions/Bears & debuted in rnd 18 1996. Showed early promise as a versatile forward & backmen in his first few years. Played a huge role in two of the three Brisbane grand final wins. Cemented a spot as their target full forward after the retirement of Alastair Lynch. Bradshaw was a player who could take a great contested mark & kick long bombs from outside 50. Once he was put on the trade table in 09′ by new coach & former teammate Michael Voss, he decided to defect to Sydney. Has had some fine games in the Swans jumper but a reaccuring knee injury was the final straw & pulled the pin this year. Underrated yet never under estimated 2 time premiership forward.
AFL Awards: Premiership Player 2001, 2003; AFL Rising Star Nomination 1997.

    *Honourable mentions
Mark Williams (ESS)- 2011 AV: 47.7/ CAREER AV: 72.4
The riflemen will be always be known for his outrageous goal celebrations & sniper like goal kicking abilities. Premiership player in 2008.
Craig Bolton (SYD)- 2011 AV 0.0/ CAREER AV: 81.4
Former Brisbane Lion who arrived at Sydney & won a premiership in 2005. All Australian in 06′ & 09. Tough nut who was the barometer in the way Sydney played their ‘ugly’ defensive strategy against opposing teams.
Scott Stevens (ADE)- 2011 AV: 90.0 / CAREER AV: 75.5
Was on track for his best season till another concussion (after numerous incidents) effectively ended his season & career. A versatile key position player who could play forward or back. Best Team Man 2007, 2010. Will be missed by Crow’s fans.

So it’s time to knuckle down & ponder what your next move is in the caper we call Supercoach. Also on channel 31 tonight (Thurs), a fantasy football show called ‘Footy Tragic’ at 9pm. Havent seen it but any help is good help.

All the best this coming weekend fellow SCT coaches…..Hope you’re season doesnt end prematurely like some of the great players above.
    GOOD LUCK 🙂

  4. So I have a dilemma… Top 4 spot up for grabs, must win game. With Newman still to trade I also have Sylvia and Ablett out. Can cover one of them but not both.

So with 3 trades left (Thanks Shaw, Higgins etc)… Thumbs up make two trades and bring in O’keefe to cover Sylvia (Also would provide good Mid/FWD cover for finals) or thumbs down just get rid of Newman.

    Cheers folks!

  9. Bit of carnage this afternoon with Enright going down with the dreaded general, and Sylvia dropped. Only three trades, so trying to avoid trades. Question is, who do I play out of Zmith and iSmith?

Thinking that Zmith may struggle down at the Cattery, but he scored 114 against Cats at Metricon earlier this year.

    Any ideas?

  10. Hey Mottsy we should put up the ladders?? for SCT leauges. Must be some very big games happening this weekend! trying to hold onto finals spots and also trying to get that last spot. I know for one you have a HUGE game in SCT1!

also just looked at the SCT footytips ladder! so close in that as well. Minh Tran currently leading on 116 and 1 clear from Ablett must die and then there are a few of us on 114, me included! 🙂

  11. Gday guys. Good luck in this last h&a round. One question every week I seem to be stuck with is JRoo. Should I play him away to West Coast or J Howe v Carlton.

  12. Is Newman worth hanging onto? Fingers crossed i should make top 4 finish with him on the bench.
Thumbs Up – Trade him out this week & get Fisher
Thumbs Down – wait a week, he may have miracle recovery

Comments if anyone has a sneaking feeling that Fisher may still be carrying an injury.

  13. Ok guys need some advice…

Does anyone know if ablett will be back next week?

I have 3 trades left and was thinking of downgrading ablett to a dud rookie, pocket the cash then upgrade Lynch GC to cloke, and still have 140k to upgrade mzungu or smith to someone next week.

I can move goodes into the middle to cover ablett. The issue is, with 3 trades left i wont have much cash to use the last trade on anyone decent

  14. Jroo has frustrated me since r2. In r1 he banged out a 120 or similiar. Being a tiger fan I stuck with him along with Dustin Martin. The two of them have cost me many loses. I will go with Jroo too as sure he wants that Coleman so bad he will kick 8. Yeah right!

  19. Well there I’ve done it… Zmith to Mumford.

Frees up Petrie and bolsters the forwards for this all important round.

Going to roll the dice with Boak this week in Ablett’s absence but will make a trade to either Pavlich or O’Keefe next week to cover for Harvey and leave me with one trade for the finals which I hope to only have to use to cover Gibbs. Broughton will most likely come in for Hibberd at that point.

    Who is the better choice?

    Up for Pavlich

    Down for O’Keefe
