A quick selection quandry. As Duffield has been struggling lately, I’m wondering whether to play Stanley over him in D7.

    Thumbs UP for Duffield

Thanks in advance, and good luck to all (except my opponent, he he).

  12. Long time reader first time poster.

    2 trades – 150k in the bank

Def: Gibbs, Goddard, Fisher, Lids, Birchall, Broughton, Bob Murph
    Puopolo, Otten, Talia

Mids: Pendles, Priddis, Swan, Bartel, Hodge, Joey
    Kennedy, Bewick (bastard), Callinan

    Rucks: Cox, Mummy
    Keefe, Tippet J

Fwds: Pav, ROK, Franklin, Sylvia, NROO, JROO, Rioli
    Petrie, Mckernan, Dahlhaus

Was thinking of trading out Dalhaus and bringing in say J.Brennan (MPP) as a POD for forward cover.

Or Spend it all on Kennedy and upgrade to best available midfielder or MPP and leave one trade just it case?

  15. Okay guys I desperately need help!!!! im getting rid of Zac Smith as he is dropping so much in price and is producing crap scores atm and I cant have that going into the finals I already have Cox as my 1st ruck with Smith and Lobbe but he is playing in my forward line due to the absence of Petrie. I have 2 trades remaining and 220k in the bank. Im already upgrading Heppell so I only have about 140k to upgrade Smith. But to who?? The most expensive ruck I could get would be Leuenberger but there is Jacobs, Nic Nat, Ottens, Jolly and Hale. So which one would be best?

  16. Im thinking Z Smith for Mumford and then Prestia for Rioli or Mzungu for Chapman. My thinking is my opponent in qf has both these two and they play adel and port so could get very high scores. Preference is to trade Prestia and chapman is named as emergency but he should play? It also allows me to keep Petrie as ruck cover and also f7 next week if I lose and can then move okeefe etc to cover Bartel if I lose this week. Thumbs up rioli thumbs down chapman

  17. My team is:
B Goddard Gibbs Deledio Fisher Broughton Adcock Birchall (Puopolo McKeever Jacobs)
C Swan Pendlebury Boyd Bartel Ablett Moloney (Mzungu McKenzie Rounds)
    R Cox Z Smith (Keefe J Tippet)
F BUddy Pav Goodes ROK T Cloke N Roo Prestia (Petrie Krakouer C Richo)

I have finished 4th and hope to win to get thru to the prelim. I have 6 trades left and 280 k. I am thinking Prestia out and Rioli in or another option like Lecras Slyvia etc. Options like Chapman who have the bye coming up are not an option as I want to keep Petrie to allow me to cover Bartel if I have to play a final next week. So he would be an extra prem forward. Also my opponent has him this week and hawks should destroy port. Any thoughts or any other options. Didak would be a thought maybe for Cam R but doesnt quite add up and hes not match fit yet. Thumbs up Rioli, thumbs down Slyvia

  20. Good morning to all,

With the major ruck issues this week (and the risk of a late withdrawl from Cox), my thoughts go to whether or not it would be a good idea to use one of the 3 emergencies on the RUCK bench (in my case, it would be Zac Smith covering Cox & Mumford).

If so, which of the DEF, MID or FWD would be best to leave without an emergency?

    Thumbs UP for RUCK emergency
Thumbs DOWN to leave as per usual

If Thumbs UP, thoughts below for which bench to leave empty.

    Thanks in advance.

  21. Trading out Z. Smith this week.
Finished 4th in my league so I get a double chance but would still realllllly love the win this week.
With pretty solid bench cover across the whole team and 2 trades left do I:
Use both trades and get McEvoy or Mummy (Thumbs Up)
Keep one trade spare for possible LTI’s and get Jamar (Thumbs Down)
    Fire away!

  25. Found this diss on the Too Serious web site from one finalist to another

“Originally, I had planned on looking through the results of the past few years to see if there is a difference this year- outside of the obvious duuuh, it’s Geelong and Collingwood and they’re awesome and pounded Port and the GC into the ground.

However, time has gotten the better of me and it’s going to have to wait until next week- however, were I to take a guess, I reckon the effect of the 3 man bench is taking it’s toll on the younger teams more than it has in the past.

Instead of that article however, I’ve got a dude, sitting 6th on his ladder, sending a little pre-weekend psychout message to 7th. Enjoy

    Dear Mick,

We both knew it would end like this.

So I had a closer look at your lineup today in preparation for the Elimination Final. You are in trouble fella.

    Let’s start with your lifelines.

    Salary cap
We both know you haven’t got much in the tank. A quick look at your bench tells a sorry tale: Smith, Mzungu, Richardson, Harris, Toy, Jacobs, Hibberd, Talia, Vardy, Heppell, Moran. In other words, you’ve spent the past 20 weeks stockpiling every high-capacity, low-priced rookie you could get your hands on and you’re now realising that you don’t have the time to trade them all down to realise their value. You’ve been perfecting your dance moves in the corner all night and now the music’s stopped and the all cheerleaders have gone home with the footballers who got straight to the point. Unlucky.

    Trades
Judging by your roster, on which I’ve previously seen some real plonkers, you couldn’t have more than two left. Can you really afford to blow them now in the naïve hope that Malthouse won’t rest Pendlebury and Swan at least once between now and September? I think not. But of course, this week poses trading problems for you that are not so hypothetical. They are nightmarishly real.

    The List

    Petrie
Surely must be traded since you made the certifiably insane decision to have no backup ruckmen. But traded to whom?

    Sandilands? Still not playing.
Goldstein? Bugger, plays for Petrie’s team.
McEvoy? Well overdue for a quiet week, and you just know he’ll have one as soon as you pick him.
Mumford? Aside from two explicable good weeks, hasn’t fired a triple figure shot since Round 6.

Regardless of the paucity of good choices, you have to pick one. Or will you have to pick two?

    Cox still may not play.

    Oh the humanity.

    Chapman
Two good weeks against inferior opposition at Kardinia Park got you excited didn’t they? But the three lean weeks before that are the real Paul Chapman circa 2011 and deep down in your petrified little heart, you know it.

He heads to Adelaide this week, where he averages a depressing 16 touches and, wait for it, 0.92 goals per game – roughly equal to his frees against average at AAMI Stadium. Number like that will keep a Supercoach up at night won’t they, mate? Chappy has forgotten what it’s like to play on a direct opponent and now he’ll probably line up on my man Johncock who will have him for breakfast. And in your wildest fantasies about progressing to the Semi Finals, you of course recognise that he won’t be playing next week.

Trade bait? Oh that’s right, you’ve got that sick and sorry ruck division to attend to. He will not clear 80 this week and that’s going to make your already painful Ruck deficiency just become busted-tib-and-fib-excruuuuciating.

    So do you sub him?

For Mzungu perhaps? But his brief will be simple: Stop Judd. He’ll sacrifice position and possessions just to achieve that, could give away 5 free kicks and will probably get Juddy’s index finger stuck in his jugular at some point. Just so very risky.

But probably not as risky as playing Chappy at AAMI Stadium.

    Montagna.
The bloke couldn’t get an effective kick in a streetfight. Now he has to face the might of the Collingwood midfield, two of whom you have on your list. Goddard will surely play in the guts, so you’d have 4 directly competing midfielders on Friday night if you played Leigh. Not ideal is it Mickey?

But do you have the minerals to switch in Heppell for Montagna because the Bombers have an easy Etihad win on the cards against the struggling, apathetic Bulldogs? Of course you don’t. And that’s why your money was placed in the donation pile at the start of the season.

    Broughton
58? The honeymoon is over sweetheart. Barlow back in the lineup means Broughton returns to the backline where he belongs. Any mug can post 120s in the guts (except Leigh Montagna). The backline’s a different dance. Now he’s going to be playing on a Carlton forward who’ll be taking deliveries from Judd, Gibbs and Murphy. Wouldn’t expect too many marks off opposition kicks this week. And last time out against Carlton, how many kicks did Greg get? What’s that? 8? Eight kicks in a winning team. You may as well play Talia. At least he’ll see plenty of the ball down back this weekend against the Cats.

So buddy, you’re carrying a devastated ruck division and at least three very shaky premium players. To say nothing of Andy Otten as your seventh defender. Even accounting for your myopic incapacity for footballing self-reflection, you must realise that you’re in more trouble than a pregnant nun. You cannot possibly hope to roll The Weary Driver with that lineup.

To save you from a spike in blood pressure as you stare into destiny’s dark abyss, I suggest you spend the remainder of the morning weighing up the Van Persie/Rooney dichotomy over at Barclay’s HQ. You can start with a clean slate over there and try to predict how the positional dominoes will fall if Tevez and Fabregas jump ship. Put your resources where they’ll do the most good, my friend. Only 275 sleeps, give or take a couple, til you can have another crack at it in Season 2012.

    God speed,

    Hazza.

  26. This is for everyone who traded out Newman in the last 48 hours 😀

“RICHMOND captain Chris Newman could make a surprise return as early as next weekend from a potentially season-ending knee injury.
Newman was subbed off just minutes into the Tigers’ Round 18 match against Geelong and scans revealed a PCL injury.

Asked this morning if he was done for the year, Newman said: “I hope not.”

“I was thinking that way early on. It has progressed really well and surprised a few. I did a bit of running yesterday and pulled up really well today, that was always going to be the test.

“So hopefully, maybe, I can start playing from next weekend.”

  31. ok guys, i usually try to avoid posting these thumbs up thumbs down questions.. i generally try to look through other peoples questions and piece together what i should do. but today, im stuck.

my situation: i have 2 trades left. bout 200k in the bank. and i finished top of 3 of my leagues, and 4th and 5th in the other two that im not too fussed about.

i cannot decide from upgrading my ruck division, or finishing off my final backline spot.

backline is gibbs, godd, deledio, brough, adcock, heppell, duigan with jacobs hibberd and thompson on bench.

i could upgrade to bock, getting rid of hibberd and releasing one of my carlton defenders for their bye, and finishing off my backline of 90+ averages… i would have 3 playing backmen in case. just not awesome ones.

    or

i could upgrade smith, as everyone is seeming to do in a panic.. to mumford. mcevoy has a harder run home, and is due for a soft week. i think mummy will be more consistent over the next 3. that would leave me with

Cox, Mumford, and jacobs, tippet as bench, and petrie playing in my forward line. 😀

both have their benifits.. backline would add me about 25 points, and help me out in the bye in rnd 23…… the rucks would give me about 25-30 points more. and if someone got dropped, i would still have good cover on the bench. this would give me petrie as a playing forward too. completing that line of 90+ averages as well…

sorry for the long post. anyone who took the time to read all this, thanks heaps.

    for everyone else.

Rucks upgrade Smith >>>>> Mumford thumbs up
Backs upgrade Hibberd >>>>> Bock thumbs down

    thanks guys

  35. im running real low on trades(2 trades) and Im wondering if I should get rid of Zac Smith??? there are other upgrades that I need to make so I’m not sure if I desperaetly need to get him out….if I dont then I wont be able to trade him out because I wont have the money as he will drop to much in price. So he will have to be my 2nd ruck for the finals which im not so sure of. He has been getting crap scores so will he come good during finals?
