  1. Robbie Young. Did it to avoid donut, was as good as one and will probably never be seen again.

    1. I knew the risks of bringing in a rookie after only one game and yet I did it last week anyway. Fingers crossed he can redeem himself yet.

  2. Trading out Hore in R3 in both Classic and Tech, although well compensated with a Lloyd trade in the Tech league.

Also holding not much faith in Fyfe’s ability to come back from concussion that seemed bad, only to trade him back in three rounds later.

Best trade probs T Kelly in R6, others have not set the world on fire. Punting T Mac in R3 from the tech team was dodging a bullet.

  3. Same mistake GG trading in Young and could of got Stocker’s score as well.
On the positive side it enabled me to trade in Lloyd and have a Dpp mid/ forward .

  4. Started with Mundy and traded him out of both teams prior to round three. Kelly came in but I’m down on points and a trade.
Brought young and Ziebell in both teams last week to avoid donuts.
    Should have just eaten them.
Hopefully the new coach plays him in the guts for the rest of the year.

    1. I’d be exactly the same best ROB or possibly trading in J.Kelly four weeks ago. I traded out Dunkley after three or four rounds as he wasn’t playing barely any midfield minutes and traded for Worpel who hasn’t been terrible but doesn’t often ton up

  5. Worst Trade:
    Robbie Young in.

    Best Trade:
    Dusty Martin to Tim Kelly.

    Best Non Trade:
    Holding Hore through round 2-3

The Trade I shouldn’t have made:
    Should have kept Noah Bolta.

  6. Best: M Crouch to Yeo two weeks ago. Up 220 points so far. 105 from Yeo over Hayes R9 and 115 over a donut R10.

Runner up Best: bringing in ROB.

    Worst: Looks like R Young.

Runner up Worst: Bringing in Hayes.

Best non trades: Keeping Balta and Hore

Worst non trades: Not getting Stack.

    1. Now father being a man of the cloth I’m hoping you will be honest and tell everyone that keeping hore was pure luck. He was a late in for christ sake ( excuse the blasphemy) however everyone in my league who kept him reckon they are Alastair Clarkson now. And yes I traded him out and yes I’m b♡tthurt

      1. Not luck, not at all!

Rule of Cow-quisition #23 says: “Some cows aren’t worth a trade to deal with. Keep them, be patient, and hope. It’s a long season, sometimes things go right in the end.”

        Just followed my own rule.

        1. Who does a father go to, to repent? Agree with rule 23 during the season proper but before any price changes take effect we aim to have the best playing rookies as possible and at that stage hore was rule #2. Moses put this rule #2 due to its significance and would have run out of stone tablets if went all the way to rule #23.

  7. Best: R’O Brien, keeping Hore, L.Baker.
Worst: Choosing Burgess and Scott over Rozee and Duursma
… and R Young to avoid the donut last week.

  8. The most disappointing thing for me has been the rookies I’ve missed.

Rozee, Miers, Stack and O’Brien have all been high quality rookies I’ve had to watch jealously.

    1. I hear you Tebs.

I got on ROB but rue not getting / starting the others.

My worst trades by far, were my first two.

Mundy and Hore out before R3. 🙁

My best trades besides ROB, were getting in Macrea and lloyd in the last few weeks, Both were well below their starting prices.

Happy I started Sloane and held Dunkley. 🙂

Looking at 18 trades left and 18 keepers, with a pretty even spread heading into the Byes.

  9. Worst: Hore – Parker after round 2
    Best: Butters – O’Brien
Regrets: Missing out on Stack/Baker, starting with Martin over Merrett & starting Short as my major POD
Happy with: Starting Hurn & keeping Dunkley

    5

    0
  10. Best: ROB
Worst: Rockliff in > Rocky and Fyfe out worried about concussion, Libba in > Libba out Fyfe in.

Started TK and Zorko as PODs, the latter of which is finally bearing fruit after holding though his mediocre first rounds.

    It’s been a season.

    3

  11. Best: Butters ➡ Dunkley in R8

Worst: Walters ➡ Darcy Moore in R3 after Walters only scored 50 in R2. He then hit the ton in rounds 3,4 and 5 😳

    7

    0
  12. Best – Scrimshaw to TKelly Rd 7

Kelly priced at only $476K at the time while Scrimshaw has been unreliable in terms of both selection and injury ever since.

Worst – Parker to Young last week

Knew the risks associated with bringing in a rookie after one game but was concerned about Parker losing so much cash. Young scores 17. Parker scores 75.

    5

  13. Best:
    Setters – Rob
    Parker – Daniel
    Collins – Rich
    Constable – J.Kelly

    Worse:
Scott – Ross 80k profit not worth a trade.
Sidewaysing Dunks – Boak after round 2
Getting Young in to avoid a doughnut should of taken the 0.

    4

    1. Not Starting with Rooze, Miers,
      Getting Ross over Stack
      Starting Oliver/Cogs over Neale
Starting Brad Crouch over Libba (Cash Generation)

      1

      0
  14. Round 7 Collins & Clark to T.Kelly & Sicily also Setters to ROB earlier.
Brought in Young last round but it did help Constable to Lloyd.
Trading has been ok it was my initial picks that hurt.
Oliver instead of Neale and Dusty instead of Bont hurt also Laird instead of Lloyd , I could go on !!

  15. Best trade in
    Either ROB on the bubble
    Or Dunkley 3 weeks ago
    Worst trade in
    Jacobs R2 after his ton

    Best trade out
    Danger
    Worst trade out
    Probably Collins R2

  16. Best trades:
    In no particular order:
    Grabbing ROB
Trading T Greene to B Smith in RD3
RD6 of L Baker in and M Hore back in by trading S Collins and B Scott
J Darling to T Kelly in RD7 at T Kelly’s lowest price of the season and has scored 509 points in 4 rounds which is 170 more than Darling could muster from RD1-RD6.
J Kelly under 600,000 a fortnight ago for 279 points in 2 weeks replacing W Drew
J Lloyd last round at his lowest price of the season coming in for D Moore.

    Worst trades:
M Gibbons to J Westhoff in RD8 which involved J Clark out for N Answerth. Had sufficient cash for Dunkley who was under 480 at that stage but Hoff’s dpp and extra cash was the main incentive and has cost me approx 170 points in 3 rounds.

Trading in Hayes and Young but the positive is those trades freed up approximately 460,000.

M Hore to J Scrimshaw in RD3 but is offset by trading Scrimshaw out at 300,000+ as well as bringing back Hore.

    Best non trades/starting selections:
    Starting L Neale, R Sloane, Z Merrett, B Grundy, L Whitfield and N Fyfe
Keeping Goldy, T Atkins, S Walsh, X Duursma and L Baker.

    Worst Non trades/starting selections:
Not grabbing Stack or Balta (later on) as well as not starting Rozee and Miers
Starting J Darling and T Greene

Dependent on upcoming trades hopefully grabbing Macrae under 600,000 this week, Cripps next week/fortnight at close to 550,000 and selecting Gray under 400,000 can be added to the best trades list.

    2

    1. Are you really going Gray?
I think that would make a decent poll …

Is Robbie Gray still a premium at the ripe old age of 31. He hasn’t averaged near 100 since 2016!

      TU: genuine fallen premium
      TD: expensive midpricer

      7

      22
      1. He’s a certainty due to poor cash gen and limited trades plus a need to get a rookie off of F6 by the end of the byes. He will likely be selected replacing W Setterfield/W Hayes/N Answerth/etc.

Has dpp so can be switched to the mids to cover an injury later in the season assuming I have cover in the fwd line to compensate for his absence. Has the potential to comfortably average 100+ or 110+ after selection with a likely worst case scenario of injury or an avg in the 80’s.

        2

        0
        1. I’m not going near him. ( R Gray )

With his injury history , he will be the one you’re hiding in the mids later in the season.

          I’d rather go Gresham !

          3

          1
      2. Using that criteria as ,what is the attraction with greene , cracked 100 just once ,hasn’t done it for a couple of years.
I think gray nearly cracked the ton last year

        1

        1. Bruce p

At least Greene is younger and playing for a much better team. No DPP, similar durability issues / potential midfield time, but a R 14 bye means more upside in Greene for me.

          1

          1
          1. Not writing greene off, but I wouldn’t write gray off either, one has been a bona fide star and one has been good but not great yet.

            3

            0
            1. Hear, Hear.

Very surprised by the sentiments regarding R Gray and epitomises how quickly an injury or low score drastically changes our interpretation of a player from a SC perspective as I assume at the start of the year Gray would have been touted as a solid choice and if ever under 400,000 would be a lock to enter most sides.

Poor cash generation will likely force a lot of teams to consider him but he still should be a great or solid F5 or F6 option later in the season and potentially could even be a F7 to be looped plus providing cover on multiple lines. Very confident that he manage a 90+ from now to the end of the season and represents great value.

Should be one of the safest option of the fwds currently below 450,000 and once Menegola returns later in the season it could be an astute selection to pair Menegola with Gray potentially having both down fwd (either both on field or 1 on-field or 1 bench) or 1 down fwd and 1 in the mids.

              2

              0
              1. I don’t think Gray is worth it unless he plays mids a large percentage of the time – and Port have a lot of options … and young ones on the rise … I don’t see him averaging high enough … there are enough other options at Fwd better than him … scores below for the year – 78Avg.

                Round Price Score
                1 $525,500 91
                2 $525,500 106
                3 $525,500 91
                4 $516,100 72
                5 $501,300 45
                6 $463,900 54
                7 $419,400 –
                8 $419,400 –
                9 $419,400 –
                10 $419,400 89
                11 $392,000 –

                1

                0
                1. Played primarily deep fwd for the past 2 seasons for an avg of 94.21 from 43. Also you aren’t purchasing Gray for his avg prior to his inclusion in your team you are purchasing him for his avg in the next 10-12 matches.

                  3

                  0
                  1. I know mate – I don’t see him averaging enough … Danger, Boak, Heeney, TKelly, Dunkley & Mundy / Hawkins (maybe even Worpel??) I think all out “average” him … just IMO though – each to their own …

                    2

                    0
                    1. Have heeney myself , ave about 80 over last 5 rounds, boak 90 over last 3. Gray and greene for that matter are both more than capable of that.

                      1

                      0
                    2. That’s fine. He doesn’t need to out average any of the aforementioned as his selection and evaluation as a pass will likely be dependent on if he can average around the 90+ range for the remainder of the season at his price point.

Coaches will have to compromise on some selections as I assume most are running 3 to 4+ of Answerth, Scott, Young, Setterfield, Hayes, Burgess, etc yet still have 4 to 6 premium spots to fill and expect to fill them with the top echelon options.

                      4

                      0
                    3. yeah Bruce – Gray’s scores of 90+ are purely dependent these days on playing a fair amount of time in the mids – even as Adam indicated above last year, he still rotated a lot of his matches into the mids … he doesn’t appear to be doing that much now, unless significant injuries … with Boak and Rocky back playing pure mids this year and Ollie (when not injured), and the youngsters in Drew, Duursma etc getting good mid time, I think Port have an eye on the future … love Robbie as a player … just don’t think I can burn a trade on him now … I may be proven wrong.
Heeney also has the problem that he appears to be playing hampered by the ankle injury … and it will give him ups and downs … just gotta hope that he plays a lot more mid with Buddy back … the other problem with him is that once the season is done, he may be mothballed and taken for surgery early … hmmm

                      2

                      0
                    4. Yeah Adam – I know … I’m left with 5 to upgrade to premiums – 2 def, 2mids and 1 Fwd …
the defs will be Hurn and Sicily no doubt
the mids – not sure (Fyfe, Kelly, Yeo, Parker, Bont – the options appear plentiful!!)
the fwd – not sure who is best option – was thinking Heeney, but comes with risks …

I’m fortunate to have ROB, Hoare, Duursma, Constable, Baker etc still around to fairly comfortably trade to the higher priced ones … just got to pick the right ones and no injuries / rests etc … that’s the game though right?? We all make our choices … then pray!!

                      Good discussion though folks!!

                      3

                      0
                2. Just so everyone knows, Robbie was carrying a shoulder injury earlier in the year. If you listen to Hinkley on SEN yesterday he talks about how Robbie’s weeks off with the finger were really a blessing in disguise because it let him rest up the shoulder.

I’m with Adam here – i see three weeks of injury scores and the rest 89-101. That’s fine for F6.

                  2

                  0
  17. Worst: starting Ridley over Moore then R3 Balta and Ridley to Parker & Moore
As a Tigers supporting- missing every Richmond bubble will haunt me for a long time

Best: ROB and maybe Hinge over Young (TBC)

  18. Worst. Bringing Menegola in the week he was a late out and has been injured since.

Best. Baker has been a great pick up.

    5

    1. I remember that. How’s ya luck?! Have you kept him or did you drop him? He’ll be a great fallen pick-up later on you’d think.

      1

      1. Held him so far. Two trades for no value and no points is just too much to swallow. If not back straight after byes becomes my worse SC trade ever

        2

        0
        1. Not to rub salt in the wound but he’s actually the 4th best forward in his own team let alone all the forwards. Hopefully he has a big second half of the year.

          2

          0
  19. Best Moves: Keeping Hore, brought Oliver in the week before the 175. Stoked to have traded in ROB too.

Worst… Mundy out (for Tim Kelly) after round 2, and Dunkley out after round 4 for Boak. (Dunkley is now back in my team, couldn’t stand watching him do exactly what I thought he would be doing preseason).

  20. Best has been Fyfe as first upgrade, or ROB

I have probably made my worst one over the last 3 weeks but it’s a bit early to tell. Have bought in Rocky, Marshall and Greene in that order. So far so good!

Best non-trades have been keeping Hore, Duursma and not taking Young. I took a gamble and paid a fair bit more for Balta instead. To avoid donut, get points and make some cash. Think it was the right decision, given his bye was much better too.

    3

    1. I’m hoping that move pays off as well Sainter. ( Balta )

It also moved two DPP’s to the mids for me, It means I can trade out Drew or Setters and keep the link open. Looking ahead to the Byes,I can’t help but think about “dead wood”

Scott has made no cash, but it maybe time to move him on for Hinge.
Makes minimal, cash but opens my D/M DPP for the Byes.

    2. yeah that was a good call AS!! Should have listened to your post and followed it (would have also not cost me my H2H with you in Contribs league this week as it was my Young trade v your Balta ..*really sad, crying face*!!) … i was trying to also free up cash for next trades too … hence the young choice … but it will now cost me multiple times it seems …

  21. Best trade was Goldstein to Mumford to allow me to get Tim Kelly in the following week. Goldy is trying to prove that wrong though.
Also Gibbons to ROB has been a good cash generator and was handy when Mummy was suspended.

Haven’t made a real bad one yet although traded Constable and Gibbons the week before they tonned up.

    1

  22. Trading Mundy after his 35 in Round 2. Thought the old bugger was past it and was getting low TOG.

Man this one burns. A lot. A fricken lot.

  23. Glad to see this post. Its one of the more light hearted moments of each season.. And we all need a good laugh in this game.

Worst, although not technically a trade, was starting Vardy, but best was trading him to ROB. Honourable worst mentions to getting Shiel and Young last week. Does Young rank as the greatest ever collective dud trade ?? Love to hear of any worse.

Best non decision…holding Dunkley…honourable mention to Gresham.

        1. And to top off my weekend from hell, I somehow had c ob moore and missed Gawn 149…had to take vc Macrae score.

          1

          0
  24. Best would have to be initially selecting Z. Williams and B. Smith. Both have been pretty consistent throughout the season and saved me a few trades upgrading the defence.

Worst, tough one. I would say getting in Young but bringing in Boak as a result isn’t too bad. Up to now it’s been pretty solid trades and teams looking pretty good.

    2

    0
    1. I’m worried about Boak – he looked like he was struggling big time on the weekend. Not sure he has the tank to last the season playing full mid … he now has a 3rnd avg of 87 and 5 rnd avg of 98 … he’s trending continuously down … not a good sign … and yes, I brought him and Young in on the weekend to avoid donuts … hmmmm

      2

      1. Farther Dougal always says players will revert to their long term averages…..looks likes he’s right again.

        4

        0
        1. Oh yes, agree – Boak a little different though as in past seasons he has been primarily a FWD – this year on ball … thus far … so fingers crossed he gets a bit ‘refreshed’ after his bye and comes back as strong as he started the year!!

          1

          0
  25. Traded in JPK only for him to be a late out, so copped the donut, only for him to do a knee, score 68 and be out another 3-4 weeks.

    6

    0
  26. worst trade has to be bringing in J.Kennedy (Syd) the week he was a late out. then came back the following week and got injured and is now out 3-4 weeks.

thankfully this was just in my second (experimental team) not my serious one.

    but still a horrid trade.

    2

  27. Ummm Bowes. Seemed like he was set to take the next step after the first few weeks. No. No he’s not. In my Hall of Fame for worst trades that one.

    2

  28. Best trade: obtaining 8 premiums in 14 trades,ROB, Walsh to Sloane, Libba to Macrae, Collins to Kelly.
    Worst trade: Fyfe* to Heeney
    Best non trades Hore,Balta
*Still expect Fyfe to miss some time

  29. My best trades/holds:

    – Round 4: Whitfield to Newman – Oh boy Whitfield in early has paid off soooo well

    – Round 8: Butters to Dunkley – Dunkley’s back!

HOLDS: Hore – this was just a pray and he’ll play stage and how he paid off sooo well

P.S – Also i started with Hurn in my team this season LMAO

  30. Had to choose between trading out Mundy, Franklin or Heeney at the end of round 3 and I chose Mundy…. Oh how I wish I chose Franklin! But at least I got in Tim Kelly who has been a positive thing to look at.
