Idleeyes suggested a new comp to me this morning and as you know we LOVE our comps here at SCT so I’m jumping on it. Thanks for the suggestion, mate.
Here’s how it works: for each of the players below, you have to provide one of 3 options: staying, retiring (which also means not getting picked up by anyone), or the team they’re getting traded to. So in Buddy Franklin’s case you might write “GWS”.
You get bonus points if you correctly provide an option for a player that isn’t on the list below.
Don’t suppose you want to collate the results for us again, Roo Bloke?

Thought it was going to be easy but hard to pick. Think most trades won’t eventuate.
Wow, that’s a surprisingly large list. Almost as surprising large as hearing Buddy to Sydney…
Adelaide:
David McKay – Staying
Bernie Vince – Staying
Shaun McKernan – St Kilda – Interesting one. Wants back to Victoria, but it’s hard to see the Crows wanting to let him leave. There are a few Victorian teams that could use a decent key forward. The Dogs seem set on Crameri, the Blues seem to be tied up elsewhere and the Demons should actually have decent key-forward options next season (Clarke, Hogan and Dawes), so I’ll go a little left field and say he ends up at the Saints. They want to go young, need somebody to take over from the Riewoldt/Kossie era and he would be a nice key-forward and backup to McEvoy in the ruck.
Ian Callinan – Retiring
Brisbane
Jared Polec: Port Adelaide – Like half the Lions team, he wants out. Also wants back to SA so it’s a 50/50 call and I think I’d rather go to Port at this stage so may as well call it for the Power.
Patrick Karnezis: Collingwood – I’m pretty confident that they will lose Daisy and I’m not sure that they will be able to lure a key FA piece and so will have the money to splash around on a couple of lower ranked guys. Doesn’t he just seem like the kind of guy that the Pies get and turn around?
Sam Docherty: Collingwood – The Blues seem the most interested, but if they are forking out for Daisy and have Walker coming out of the backline, he doesn’t seem like a necessary investment to me. The Pies, on the other hand, look near certainties to lose Heath Shaw, and Docherty could be groomed to take over a half-back flank.
Elliot Yeo: West Coast – He wants out and wants to go to the Eagles. The Eagles want him too and I think they get him.
Billy Longer: Hawthorn – I think that the Hawks will end up with both of the key ruckmen available now that they have the money spare. They get Mumford for a continued tilt at flags now and Longer for the future. Not sure where they all fit with Mr Red Vest (Bailey), but they will have a mini-war chest available after losing Buddy and there aren’t many more attractive destinations than the reigning premiers!
Brent Staker: Stay – He has been linked to the Blues and has even toured the club, but I’m not sure why they want him. I know that he helps with their key-forward issues, but he turns 30 next season and I think if Mick and Carlton learnt anything this year, it’s that they are further away than they thought and don’t really need ageing stars to help they get a flag.
James Polkinghorne: Stay – Surely they have to keep some of their kids?
Aaron Cornelius: Stay – As above
Carlton
Shaun Hampson: Stay – I’m not really sure that anybody wants him.
Eddie Betts: Adelaide – Been linked to them and North and Adelaide just makes more sense to me, especially with Callinan and the Porpoise not being spring chicken.
Chris Yarran: Stay – It’s a really hard call. Been put through the wringer by Mick, but if they lose Betts, all of a sudden Yarran as a small forward option becomes pretty important again. Still a very good chance to go west and if he were to go there, I think he ends up at the Eagles.
Mitch Robinson: Stay – Love his heart, but as with Hampson, I’m not sure that anybody else really wants him.
Heath Scotland: Stay – He still has value at the Blues.
Collingwood
Heath Shaw: Melbourne – They’d be insane to give up pick 2 for him, but I think he ends up there anyway. He is an elite defender, but the Pies are a very motivated seller because the coach just wants him (and a few other rat pack members) gone. He is a risky get as his attitude is rubbish at times, but I think Roos is the kind of coach to turn him around as he nears the next phase of his footballing life.
Daisy Thomas: Carlton – All he needs to do is pass the medical I think and I hope he does. I say that because, if he passes a pretty pressing medical, then he will be an instant lock in my SC 2014 side. The Blues medical staff are doing the work for me, which I love!
Marty Clarke: Retiring.
Essendon
Stewart Crameri: Dogs – I don’t want to see him go, but when a player openly says I want to play at a particular club I’m in the camp that they should go.
Scott Gumbleton: Stay – I’d be a bit upset if he left. As a club, the Dons have stuck by him through a multitude of injuries and I hope that he repays the club.
Tayte Pears: Stays – Probably being hopeful, more so than sensible.
Fremantle
Zac Clarke: Stays – They’d be insane to let him go and he’d be almost as silly to leave.
Jesse Crichton: Retires – When Ross doesn’t like em, he doesn’t play em and the fact that Crichton only played when half the team was out isn’t a good sign for him.
Geelong
Paul Chapman: Richmond – They have shown their willingness to go after recycled players in the Hardwick era and he would be great helping in the guts and up forward.
Josh Hunt: Retires – He may want to play on, but I’m not sure that anybody really wants him.
Joel Corey: Retires
Jed Bews: Stays – Still young.
Gold Coast
Karmichael Hunt: Stays – I think he signs a short-term deal and then heads back to a rugby code at the end of that deal.
GWS
Taylor Adams: Collingwood – Continues my thoughts that they don’t get any stars, but get a number of decent young guys. Future leader and, from a culture change point of view, he would be perfect to replace some of the guys that Bucks is sick of.
Jonathon Patton: Stays – Seriously, how much would a club have to offer to get him? Too much is my call.
Hawthorn
Lance Franklin: Sydney – Didn’t see that coming…
Xavier Ellis: Stays
Shane Savage – Stays: He may not be in their best 22 right now, but they are getting older and I don’t think they want to lose a guy just on the edge of their 22.
Kyle Cheney – Stays: As with Savage.
Melbourne
Colin Sylvia: Stays – If he really had his way I think he’d leave, but I’m not sure that he has much currency anymore. Roos will bring him around.
North Melbourne
Luke Delaney: St Kilda – Missed out on the Twins Brown so they will settle for him.
Robbie Tarrant: Stays
Michael Firrito: Retires
Port Adelaide
What a turnaround from 12 months ago. Seems like this time last year no players (or coaches) wanted to go there and everybody listed wanted out. You’ve gotta admire what they have been able to do in such a short time frame.
Richmond
Nathan Foley: Stays
Matthew White: Stays – May get squeezed out, but the Tiges are doing a good job of keeping their players recently.
Luke McGuane: Stays
Jake Batchelor: Stays
Robin Nahas: Stays
St Kilda
Nick Dal Santo: North – Don’t have the money for him and Eddie, but if Eddie goes to the Crows, I think they’ll get Dal. I reckon it would’ve been Essendon, but without DPs to be able to trade I’m not sure what they give up to get him.
Sam Fisher: Stays – Close to the end, but not quite there yet. One more year.
Leigh Montagna: Stays – I think keeping him and Lenny to teach the new brigade of midfielders how to play is the right ploy. If he were a bit younger maybe they trade him, but I don’t think anyone will give up enough to lure him away.
Sydney
Ben McGlynn: Stays – I’m not sure that they have the money to keep him, but I’m also not sure where else he goes.
Shane Mumford: Hawthorn – They have the money and he takes over the number 1 ruck spot in a flag tilt.
Jesse White: Collingwood – The final piece of the quartet of change. Basically steps straight into Lynch’s spot in the side. I know that it’s been said before, but honestly, how crazy were the Crows not to take him last season when Tippett was going?
West Coast
Luke Shuey: Stay – Young and a gun, they’d be shattered to lose him and I don’t think that they will.
Scott Selwood: Stay
Western Bulldogs
Jason Johannisen: Essendon – Ends up being part of a Crameri trade.
Dylan Addison: Stays
Easton Wood: Stays
Shaun Higgins: Stays

Will look at the shortly, but pretty tough Buddy Gone just spent the afternoon changing all my profile pics
Let see if this one worked
As this is trade talking, Not really sure what Sydney are thinking.
1. Buddy will not play for the next 9 years he would be 35 cannot imagine he will last that long.
2. The 10 Million is unconditional so if he finishes in 5 gets Injured they still have to pay him.
3. The AFL surely could not allow Sydney to have escape clauses in there to pay out Buddy on retirement or Injury, without been taken into account for the Salary Cap, then they would just be rioting the system.
4. If they have to continue for 9 years to pay him this money and for whatever reason he finishes in 6 for the next 3 years they will be 1 Million in a whole with no player.
I am assume they are smart maybe a lot is up front on some key retirements to lessen the issue at the back end, but how does all this work, they still also have to pay Tippett.
Sorry Hawker wouldn’t give you two boob for buddy ,best years are gone , what did he do this year , had a good game against ess, I think. Tassie boy so you will argue with me but think how good Gunston will be at FF. Sorry mate I’ve got no time for him.

anyone think heath shaw could go to geelong?
Love trading/FA/Draft times in all sports.
Mumford to GWS could be good for him, depending on how they plan to play him and Giles.
What could be really interesting though, is it’s effect on Pyke. With Franklin, Reid and Goodes as tall options, Tippett doesn’t need to spend a whole match in the forward line, so you would think that they would look at rucking Pyke 80% or so of the time and using Tippett for the remaining 20%. Being such a strong contested mark and a decent goal kicker (26.7 this season), Pyke could be a left field option to lift that average from 86 to 100+.
With Pods not being offered a new contract with the Cats, Shane Kersten looks a good early option for our forward lines. He’ll be 21 going into the new season and he is coming off 41 goals in 13 games in the VFL this season. He’s unlikely to be dominant, but he would be the third key forward behind Hawkins and Simpson so he wouldn’t have the best defenders on him most weeks. Definitely one to keep and eye on.
Definitely DO NOT want to complile these results. Wow!!!!!
As long as North gets Dal plus McDonald with our first pick I’ll be happy.
Our window is open!!
