The Unloved Ones

Written by Motts on February 6 2012

Morning all!

Visited Adelaide over the weekend where I read the Jason Porplyzia is training well, has done plenty of shoulder strengthening and is going to be right to go come Round 1. At $230k he ‘s tempting but will you risk it?

And it got me thinking, have you taken a risk before on a player only to be burnt when he got injured, stank it up or worse, both?

There’s a few names that come to mind but I didn’t want to prejudice anyone’s responses, so just go ahead and list away.

  1. F***ing Higgins. Won’t be burnt by him for the third year in a row. I won’t. I won’t. Although, hmmm, he does seem a lil unders. Maybe this is his year. 😉

  2. After Fyfe scored a 49 in round 2 last year I traded him out in order to get Tapscott. He then went on the average 108 for the season while Tapscott warmed my bench. Still so painful to think about…

  3. Adelaide play GC suns Rd1
    Rd2 Western Bulldogs Home
    Rd4 GWS
    Rd5 Port

Then it gets progressively harder. Will Porps shoulder and body hold up for 5-6 rounds and will his price rise enough to get some good money from him?
He may be worth the risk if he can stay around for enough rounds. If he is fit he’ll be in there top 22.

Thompson looks like a good pick early because of the easy start and he kills it against easy teams.

  4. The names on my don’t touch list in order of how much I hate them are:
    7) Didak
    6) Sylvia
    5) Gumby
    4) Rioli
    3) JRoo
    2) Higgins
    1) Dangerfield

    Hmm so much potential…

  5. As a loyal doggies man, I had Easton Wood in my side Round 1 last year, thinking he’d explode. He gave me ~50 points before being sidelined for eight weeks.

Also, in 2009 I forked out $350,000 for Nick Malceski. He faithfully rewarded me with 12 games at an average of 51.

    Oh, and Higgins. Never again.

  6. Off the topic a bit, but looking at a couple of West Coast Eagles players for the backline. Who would be the better value?

    Shannon Hurn $446,000 v Beau Waters $389,600

  7. Normally I’d say Hurn but he was disappointing last year…

    As for unloved:
Bewick – didn’t even gain enough to be worthy of trading out
Cam Richo – looked the goods at season start but just took up space on the bench
    Muston…

  8. Arrrgghhh!!! You just opened up some serious wounds Bender. I ended up giving up F8 and kept McRoberts for the whole season.
