Third Year Wonders

Written by Motts on February 7 2011

Conventional wisdom states that it takes players until their third year in the big leagues for them to find their feet and start fulfilling their potential.

Here is the Top 10 from the 2008 AFL Draft. If conventional wisdom is right, then these boys are all due for a breakout year.

  1. Jack Watts
  2. Nick Naitanui
  3. Stephen Hill
  4. Hamish Hartlett
  5. Michael Hurley
  6. Chris Yarran
  7. Daniel Rich
  8. Tyrone Vickery
  9. Jack Ziebell
  10. Phil Davis

Who else from the 2008 Draft do you have your eye on?

On another note, I casually sauntered into my local newsagent this morning and there it was: the document that you MUST get your hands on if you’re serious about competing in any fantasty football leagues in 2011. The Feb/Mar AFL Record is available now. In it you will find a ton of useful information but none moreso than the rundown on every single AFL player. It will be the best $7 you spend all year. Do yourself a favour.

  1. To be honest not much of the Top 10 tickle my fancy this year. Zeibell and Yarran maybe but with a guns/rookies philosphy this year perhaps not. If i did have to look at some players from that draft i may look at.
    Steele Sidebottom
    Dan Hannebury
    Dayne Beams
    Liam Anthony
As players who may average 90+

Some untried players to keep an eye on form that draft who may be a cash cow are
    Sam Blease
    Steven Motlop
    Shane Savage

  2. One bloke i hope has a big year but he is not a third year player ,and thats josh kennedy ( carlton discard ) for west coast . This kid has the ability to be a very good player but he is not consistent enough to be a champion , but maybe this is his breakout year for the coasters ….. by the way if anyone is intrested to join my second league , i have 15 spots to fill 777706……..

  4. Hey Motts, how about you do a poll on want coaches are aiming for this year. Is it grabbing the $50k and going all the way or just winning their private league against their mates and have the bragging rights until 2012. Or both.

  5. Off topic but is anyone else struggling with the super coach site on iPad? I can’t scoll through the players when trading.

  6. Hi Large, you have to scroll using two fingers…. separate your thumb and index finger by about a cm or so and touch the screen where the players names are, then scroll up. It is hard but eventually it works.

  8. i just thought hunt would guaranteed some game time so i was lazy and put him in aha would you have any suggestions to there instead of him?
yeah to put petrie in third ruck means ill have to free up some cap space so who would i get rid of for a cheaper option to cover?
