    1. Bont would of been a bargain if he didn’t have those ankle issues over the preseason, to risky to start with

      1. This. Limited pre-season last year as well and played forward a lot and averaged 85 the first 6 rounds. Once he was fully fit and introduced back into the midfield, he averaged 115 for the rest of the season.

Look as one of your first upgrade targets.

    1. Mills is a gun, but only scored two 100s last year, with a top score of 104. At 420K, you’d need to be pretty confident he’s a keeper, which would be a phenomenal effort for a second year player.

      1. Currently have Z.Williams myself, averaged 69 in 2015, 88 in 2016, managed 4 tons, hoping that trend continues.

    1. Beams and NOT Johnson 😛 he’s not integral to our plans moving forward and way to injury prone. You’d be better off with a rookie.

    1. As expected the polls not helping me much so far. Hanners faded off towards the back end of last year. Does anyone know if he was carrying an injury or just tiring out?

        1. Thanks Thommo, you’d think he’d play more in the guts with Mitchell gone but you just never know what Horse is gonna do. Look forward to the review.

  1. Currently have both of these and 315k to play with , probably should just run with one of these breakout contenders.
    TU Petracca
    TD J Steele
    Currently have Dahlhaus and Nankervis
( backing 211) and the rest rookies Houston, Begley, Eddy and Keilty. Who’s best to go for.?

  2. Given the uncertainty around ruck this year, particularly with regards to shared ruck duties, what do people think about ruck structure? Should we pick two premiums and hope for the best, or wait and see who the top two rucks turn out to be this year?

TU: Set & Forget (2 Premiums)
TD: Wait and see (2 mid-pricers)

    Comment: Other (e.g. 1 premium + 1 mid+pricer, 1 premium + 1 rookie, etc.)

      1. I would go for this, except I’m not entirely confident about any of the premium rucks just yet, so I’m currently going with Nankerlands. The extra cash has done wonders for the rest of my team.

    1. From someone who has experienced both, Vietnam for me, however this is the South not the North.

South Vietnam is a Minnie Bangkok.

      1. Cheers, l’ve done most of SEA before, just not Vietnam.

We ended up settling for Vietnam but looks like the tour is going to be cancelled over Christmas so NZ might be the one we end up doing instead.

  3. a bit out of the box perhaps…..but…..

    TU – Jobe Watson
    TD – Clayton oliver

You might think neither…..but just asking if you were to pick one…..

  4. I read the 2UP and Rate My Team sites all the time. What about a site for observations that fall in between these. Where we can leave general thoughts that don’t quite fit into the above two.

  5. The so-called premium forwards we currently have to choose from:

TU: Will still be the best available forwards by the end of the year
TD: Better forwards will emerge during the year

    1. I know I’ve said it before but the likes of Kennedy & Franklin, although frustrating at times, will always end up in the top 6 aggregate. That’s why I’m also looking at Lynch seriously……22 games, top 6 finish & doesn’t cost a trade.

      1. Whilst there are some key forwards who score well no matter how their team is going, others are heavily dependent on the quantity and quality of delivery from their respective midfields. By picking players of this sort, one is, effectively, making an implicit prediction about their team’s performance this year.

      2. None of the talls are guaranteed Top 6 in my opinion. Maybe 2 or 3 of N Riewoldt, Franklin, Lynch and Kennedy maximum. Dahlhaus is the only guaranteed top 6 forward at this stage.

  6. Currently have Nankerlands at R1 & R2. Slightly worried about bench cover.

    TU: Preuss will be enough.
TD: Spend a little extra and put Witts at R3.

  7. T/U: Gawn/Goldy, D.Cameron (ruc/fwd) R3, Nankers in F4.

T/D: Think about swapping Sandilands in for an extra $280k-337k

Comment: Forget the DPP, get Preuss in R3 and swap Nankers for a JOM/Swallow/D.Beams…

Love your work, spend probably hours on 2UP – ever considered making an app for SCT?

  8. T/U – I am a brave Supercoach warrior and have the courage to not have Gawn in my team
TD – I am a sheep and will just follow the flock and have Gawn in R1 like (mostly) everyone else

    1. Not crazy. He’s had one hell of a season last year, but things appear to be changing at the Dee’s with a second ruck.

I’m with Goldstein this year, proved over a number of years that he is consistent. Years ago it was Dean Cox, then Sandilands, then Goldy and he’s not done yet.

    1. I dont understand the number of thumbs down on this one. Forget pre-season games, he was a great point-scorer in his previous year, what’s to say he won’t improve?

  9. And now for something completely different… which coaches will get sacked this season? See follow up comments.

  10. After tinkering, two more sensible (i think) scenarios:

    T/U: Stef/Nankers, Cameron R3. Nankers would swing to F4-ish for R2 upgrade.
    T/D: Stef/Sandi (until Gawn/Goldy say ‘hey, me’), Cameron R3, Nankers F4.
Comment: Forget Stef (even tho i think he’s the goods, being a disposal weapon as well as tapping down to an improved midfield)

    Cheers! Exciting times ahead!

  11. Forward line options

    T/U
Dahlhaus, Franklin, Roughead, Nankervis, Bowes, Pickett
( Emg Begley & Eddy ) with ruck cover

    T/D
Dahlhaus, Franklin, Roughead, Hrovat, Hoskin-Elliott, Bowes ( emg Begley & Eddy ) no ruck cover

Thanks in advance SCT coaches for any feed back

  12. UP – Shaw (high ceiling but also copped a 48 & 56 last year)
DN – Simpson (consistency and Blues play one top eight team in first 10 rounds)

    13

    10
  13. UP – Pendles (ignore his sore achilles yesterday)
DN – Treloar (great pre season and ready to go to the next level)

      1. That’s an interesting argument for an extra $50K for those that have jumped on the Nankervis bandwagon, myself included. Question is whether Ryder can coexist with Trengove without adversely affecting his scoring.

What probably also needs to be considered is whether Ryder/Nank will end up being keepers and presuming the answer is no, at what stage we would expect to upgrade them and their expected price rise.

        1. FWIW, I also have Nankervis but I believe Ryder is the better pick.

I am picking up solely for R3/F7 cover at the end of year and I think Nank will be serviceable and happy to lock him in for the early rounds at his price.

          1. Agree Ryder is the better pick and now I’ve got myself thinking again with the favorable bye for Port as well.

Just trying to envisage how the team will look mid way (and at the end of) the season and if dishing out an extra $50K is worth it.

            1. Cheers fella’s I am finding this a difficult decision too.

Nank could be Maric 2012 mark II or just another mid-priced ruckman that will sit nicely at F7 for a year of fwd/ruck cover.

Ryder may not reach his previous heights after time out of the game. Plus we have seen that if Lobbe plays Ryder’s scores take a hit. A big gamble to see Ryder regain premium status.

At this stage I like Huttabito’s plan. Nank at F4 for mine.

  14. I never thought I’d say it after a bunch of us got burnt last year, but…

    T/U – Steele
    T/D – O’Meara

    Comment – other.

    1. Can I say something on Roughy. His price is very tempting but other than the year or two he also rucked he hasn’t been a great premium. Am I wrong?

      1

      2
      1. 2011: 11 games, average 101.5
        2012: 20 games, average 103.7
        2013: 22 games, average 98.5
        2014: 20 games, average 95.8
        2015: 20 games, average 96.4

Considering the other premium forwards on offer this year, I’d say that’s pretty good.

  15. Alright, I could use some help
    T/U: Docherty and T Mitchell/Ward
    T/D: Laird and Treloar/Kennedy

Sorry for the two midfielders on each choice. Trying to seperate those two midfield pairs is like trying to decide between boobs and a$$

    1

    11
  16. UP – Macrae (young gun who will have midfiled time)
DN – NRoo (proven premium running amok on the wing)

    6

    6
  17. Final decision:

    T/U – Pendles / Bontempelli
    T/D – JPK / Hanners

Others are Danger, Jelwood, Fyfe, Beams, JOM, Swallow

    3

    2
  18. Witts as R3. If he is No 1 ruckman will make money and saves having to have Forward/Ruck cover for Sandilands.

    T/T Good idea

    T/D Don’t be stupid
