With Barlow going down the other week and everyone having to find a midfield replacement, it inspired me to list the top six midfielders I’d have in an ideal world. With finals not far away, and everyone looking to identify their top 7 forwards, here’s mine as of now:
1) P Chapman 597k, ave 125
2) L Franklin 552k, ave 107
3) J Riewoldt 590k, ave 103
4) M Pavlich 454k, ave 104
5) A Didak 477k, ave 98
6) C Rioli 547k, ave 93
7) B Harvey 490k, ave 94
I personally have big Browny who returns this week after a stint on the sidelines, and we’ll know in a few weeks if he should be back in the to 7, along with Saint Nick who returned last week. I unfortunately don’t have J Pod and whilst I am a huge fan of his, I haven’t put him in the to 7, but I wouldn’t be trading him out if I had him….. others I wouldn’t consider trading out are Thomas, ROK and Gia.
I only have Buddy, Pav, Dids & Boomer myself out of the top 7. I wish I had Chappy, and may look to trade him in closer to finals.

My advise would be wait as long as you can to save trades and avoid injuries, and see how Rooey goes…. then depending on form, grab Rooey at a bargin, or just get Chappy.

My existing forwards are:
Pav, ROK, Dids, Waite, Goodes, Rockliff, Pods
My ideal forward line would read:
Chapman, Pav, Dids, Roo, Lanch, Boomer, Waite with Rioli and Goodes warming the pine.

why do you like Waite, Motts. He’s too inconsistent for me, he’s always suspended/injured.

He’s over his injuries which just leaves the suspension issue and you’d have to think that he’s learnt his lesson by now (Christ I hope he has anyway). So look at his last 5 scores from rounds 7, 8, 11, 12 & 13:
123, 111, 123, 94, 100
And he DPP’s with Grundy (who I don’t have), Henderson and P Davis. Makes him pretty bloody valuable in my book.

Ditto. But I brought him back in R11 and haven’t regretted it. Well, maybe when he got done again in R13…
You’d have to think he’s a little fresher than most because of the limited number of games he’s played this year too.

Rooey would have been my first picked at the start of the season.. and was! But back from injury, he may be back in the top 7 in 2-3 weeks, once he’s proved his Hammy and his price has dropped.

PA, I have a lot of respect for you champ, but as of now… I don’t really think you can have Rooey, Browney or Goodesy in the top 7. I have Brown-dog and Goodesy in my current team…. I, like you, am hoping they turn it around and are entrenchched in the top 7 by finals. Goodesy made a big step last week, but I’m concerned he’s named at FF this week.

From this list I only have buddy. Current lineup is rok, betts, jpod, hall, buddy, brown, rockliff, fumbles and Hitchcock. Still mulling over bringing in chappy to upgrade hall this week but concerned with injury history. Did read he underwent a different program preseason though which could prove a longer home and away. Otherwise pretty happy with team. Would pick up roo into finals and although think pav is crazy cheap right now

Pav, Brown-dog, Buddy, Goodesy, Danger-man, Boomer, Higgins
Bench: Rocky & Fyfey
Also have Dids & ROK & Rohan in my midfield so have heaps of DPP’s to swap around

nothing wrong with dids or rok as fwds but as mids their aves suggest mediocrity. so do the other dpp’s except maybe pav. great to have flexibility but imo u should be aiming to get chappy and 1 other top line mid by sacrificing danger and rohan and probably fyfe. i would say you’ve employed an excellent strategy if its helped u to save trades. gl

Thanks Pump, I agree on ROK and Did’s as aveerage mids… bt great flexibility. I only got ROK because he was soooo cheap. My plan in a week or two is to swap Danger with ROK or Did’s and upgrade Danger to a premium MId like Joey or Dal. I already have GAJ, Swan, Selwood and Coons. So should be looking pretty sweet.

Forward line:
Chappy, Buddy, ROK, Gia, Hall, Higgins, Rockliff and JPod. Emergencies are Davis (ADEL) and Hitchcock.
By the seasons end, Hall and Higgins/Rockliff will be upgraded to Pavlich and Riewoldt/Riewoldt.
