I thought I’d do some quick analysis to help you make your trade decisions for the rest of the year. Below are the last 4 games for the year (the SC Finals) for each team with an (A) after games which are played outside their home state. I’ve also given each team a nominal rating based on their relative strength, who they’re playing and where its being played.
Based on this analysis, the players you should be looking at right now should come from:
St Kilda – rating: 9,
Collingwood – rating: 7,
Brisbane – rating: 7, and funnily enough
Richmond – rating: 7
Happy to debate any of the ratings with you. What do you think?

Does the possibility of some teams having the luxury to rest gun players factor into your rating?

Good point. No it doesn’t.

That’s gotta be the flipside of an easy last 4 games, pump. I remember last year when the Saints rested half a dozen of their guns against the Hawks in one of the last rounds. Geelong too have a tendency to do the same. Not sure if the Pies will take that route though. It definitely can throw a spanner in the works of the SC finals and means that quality emergencies can be more than useful.

thanks motts this is useful. but i think Pump & Mike are right, teams resting premium players is going to be a huge factor in where points are coming from.
How many players do teams usually rest in the lead up to finals?

St. Kilda and Geelong rested quite a few last year but that was primarily because they had the top two positions on the ladder stitched up. As you will know it’s a bit different this year and it’s too early to know right now if teams will have that luxury come August. I wouldn’t let it dictate your Barlow trade.

thanks mike. i’m can afford goddard, but not sure i want to spend almost $700,000. is better to go for slightly cheaper and pocket the cash for another upgrade?

My trades this week:
Barlow —> Montagna
Hall —> Pavlich
Leaving with 6 trades to hold for finals.
My midfield is GAJ, J. Selwood, Chappy, Swan, Juddy and Joey

For your sake I hope the Geelong team plane doesn’t go down at any stage. Surprised you couldn’t fit Jimmy Bartel in there as well…

The Cats host the Eagles at Skilled in R22.
I can see it now . . . OUT: Ablett, Selwood, Chapman, Podsiadly

Now you say that I’m worried. I have 5 cats; Selwood, Ablett, Chapman, Enright and Podsiadly :S

Most good teams have 3 or more Cats so it will affect everyone if it happens. The Cats play the Pies, the Dogs and the Blues before the WC game so I’m expecting a few to get a rest in R22. I guess it comes down to your DPPs and the quality of your emergencies.

Yeah good point there Mike. My emergencies are pretty good quality and are getting games regualry now. Whenever I’m downgrading now, I will invest in a cheap rookie DPP, which will help come finals time. Dissapointed I didn’t pick up Hederson from Adelaide (FWD/DEF), he would’ve been handy to swap with Phil Davis.

Mitchell’s great when he’s great but too often brings out a hurtful score. I’d aim to pick up saints/pies or cats players right now.
I’ve got Mitchell and won’t trade him because it’s a waste after having him all year but certainly not my best pick this year.

You’ve made a mistake Motts. Collingwood’s last 4 games of this year are;
Hawthorn

I think people hate us because we are such gracious winners, always quick to praise the opposition, always playing down the signifigance our results, never getting too far ahead of ourselves.

Anyone else on here annoyed at how good C Rioli has been playing lately?? Traded him out Rd 7 after pathetic score after pathetic score and his overall inconsistency. Ever since round 10 he has scored 123, 101, 167, 102 and 159!! ahh the joys of supercoach! its like my ruckman – started with Tippet (poor form), then traded to Seaby (injured), then traded to Hille (injured), traded to Kreuzer (injured), then now to P Ryder. Oh please dont get injured patty!!!

GAJ is the best value player going at $613,600, when in R8 he was a massive $772,500, still avg 135.23 ppg. If you don’t have in your side now there is no excuse to bring him in for Mr Barlow (Thanks Mate for your great work).

what does everyone think of these 3 trades i might make over the next few weeks in the run up to the finals:
BARLOW > MONTAGNA
WATERS > GOODWIN
FYFE/HALL > BETTS
are these good upgrades going into the final weeks or should i wait until the actual finals?

Goodwin’s been saving me lately but again, I’d never recommend him to anyone. Adelaide, although in some form now, will probably fade out again when it matters in SC land

Partridge might be back this week, NORTH Melbourne midfielder Andrew Swallow says the potential return of key forward Drew Petrie would be a huge boost as his side prepares for a crucial clash against the Sydney Swans at the SCG on Sunday.

Would happily do a Barlow > Montagna trade, however i am too short on $$$ (less than 1k in bank).
4 trades left so not willing to double trade.
What are peoples thoughts on getting Cross in for barlow. Unique pick and has been travelling very well, WB run home isnt that bad. If not who else?

How about Hayes? only 5% of teams have him and hes under 500,000. But i guess you have to watch out because Saints will be resting players.

Hayes is actually a very good option. Going by his scores last year he is solid to maintain his average if not increase it by a fair bit.
Then ill have the added bonus of an extra 65k in the bank which should help with the 3 little trades i have left (and will be holding onto!)

I want 2 make a little money off barlow so then when i trade grimes i can get someone half decent. Was thinking either:
Black (only 3% of people have him and easy run home)
Didak (cheap and scoring well)
Pavlich (Should of had him from day dot and now is $$ enough but still a little worried about last few weeks)
Any suggestions?
