Trade Or Hold – Rd7 #1

Written by Schwarzwalder on May 2 2018

Over 45 000+ Coaches are still weighing up the options surrounding Buddy Franklin.  After averaging 116pts over the first four Rounds, Buddy dropped a 48 against Adelaide.  It was then revealed that he’d been playing with a bruised heel since Rd1 (and barely training over the last few weeks).  With Buddy now listed as a 1-2 week proposition, what advice would you give the 23% of Coaches out there?  Jump ship while you can or hold on for dear life?

What to do with Lance Franklin (SYD)?

  1. I’m holding on for dear life. May not even have the legs to score well the first couple of games when he does come back, but as my #1 FWD pick at the start of the year (never again by the way 😉 ), my entire strategy will fall apart if I don’t.

Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery and quick return to awesomeness. In the meantime, the Swans maintaining finals footy within their reach should help.

  2. Tom Browne of 7 said last week (and reiterated this week) that his belief is that Buddy would have 4 weeks off, leaving him with 3 more weeks on the sidelines. The guy seems to be a generally reliable source but who knows I guess! If you trust that information though he’s gotta be a trade.

  3. Jumped off last week and hoping to be reading about his as a fallen premium after he gets back to normal Buddy form

  4. Hmmmm.
Have Franklin, Walters, Deledio (yes I was warned 😉 ) and Fogarty(ADE) in my FWD line with very little ITB.
    Am now thinking ….
    OUT: Walters and Fogarty
    IN: Mundy and Spargo
I have no MID DPP but do have Sicily down back. I know Cole and Duman are on the bubble but am not convinced by Duman and his JS and Cole is too expensive to bring in Mundy. Obviously I could double downgrade but have a shade under a million sitting on the pine!
This give me time to reassess next week with updates on Buddy and Lids.
TU: probably the best option in the circumstances, but you’re an idiot for buying Lids!
TD: think again numbnut (suggestions would be gratefully received if you’re pressing this though, cos I’m lost)
    Thanks all in advance.

  5. not a buddy owner , but am reminded of sandy last year , finished 167 th overall with excess trades left & if I hadn’t fallen for FURL bs , say’n sandy would be back next round, back next round for six weeks , I wouldn’t have only had 1 ruck over that period & would have finished in a much better position , save yourself the stress , when in doubt, trade ..

    1. Sounds like sage advice indeed PJ, thanks. Having also just read this week’s hilarious CowTalk, perhaps Fogarty can idle on the bench for now, while I go catch myself a fallen premium with that extra cash.

  6. if buddys out for 4 , it will fall to the mids to pick up the slack , so you would think JPK would keep on rising to the challenge , might be just the kick up the backside he needed , also , Ronke’s job security should improve ..

  7. If I need buddy cash for someone I really want I’ll trade. Otherwise I’ll just be Using rookies

  8. If you haven’t already traded him last week you’re pretty much committed to keeping him.

  9. We all pretty much start with 12 -14 Premiums at the start of the year , a couple of those will stink it up, but with 30 trades and 10 -12 Premiums to find you really don’t want to be left wondering , Buddy will likely be another 3 -4 weeks and will be coming back to a high BE. He’s a straight trade to another premium and if there’s no reasonable option fwd then try and find a mid(Merrett, Neale etc) or Def . You can always trade him back in after his bye ,Premium out Premium in , forget the names that sit behind them.

  10. SEN reports today that it’ll be “a few weeks yet” for Buddy to return.

Wanted to hold, but that’s enough for me, he’s out. Anyone know a reliable premium forward?

    1. Heeney, Mundy and Mclean the most reliable.

Gray has a huge ceiling but can still go missing .

I have had Mundy all year and and more than happy up to this point.

He does have that nasty Round 14 bye though.
