Trade Talk R11

by Motts on June 4, 2012

There were some stunning performances over the weekend. And some absolute shockers.

As we head into the first of the 3 bye rounds, will you be trading like crazy to stay competitive? Or will you be putting a lock on the T button and hoping for the best?

You can’t trust Lyon with young players if Harvey was still there Crozier could have been like Fyfe in his first year. I hope im wrong and Crozier can play a full game and play well to then cement his spot in that team but we’ll have to see.

With Scotland out, Eski and Pendles in doubt you can just call me Krispy

I’m with you Rex although hopefully going to be a bit luckier this week. No injuries at this stage and if I can get Heppell back and Horse and Smedts both get a gig then I will get away with just the one doughie and no trades. Not quite as optimistic about the two weeks to follow though.

My team is hurting this week after Sunday shockers from Hargrave and Horsley (I just cannot get my on field rookie right!).

My plan was to have no donuts this week but Scotland, Horse (will he be selected), Pendles, Shaw and did I hear right that Selwood tweeked his groin. I cannot cover that many outs. I hope Thursday has good news.My planning was near perfect but the next three weeks may well be a nightmare!

I hit the green thumb then ARC for the not trading in players who will be missing one of the next two weeks. That was before I saw Cloke’s name though. 5 scores under 80 in 10 games says a big red thumbs down for me. Last year he had his highest ever average of 95 after 85 in 2010 and under 80 the three years before that. 2011 also included 10 scores under 85 out of 25 games. I know he’s dirt cheap but those numbers would scare me off.

Is he still a potential upgrade target?

Fishtopher June 4, 2012 at 10:51 am

Lewis will be reliable enough I suppose. Has had a couple of 70s and a horrible 53 against the Tigers but I’d be surprised if he went that badly again. Everything else has been 89 or better and he’ll give you that output most weeks. He does play a negating role these days so don’t expect any huge scores but he does get enough of his own ball and loves a goal so I reckon he’ll average 95-105 for the rest of the year. Being VC now his discipline is a lot better too.

No trading this week and was going to get 2 donuts but with Scotland/Shaw and possibly Selwood/Horse there may be more pain to come. Hopefully the others that I play against will be in similar situations and it will come down to a war of attrition and captain choices (of which I have completely f@#ked up to date).

Objectively speaking I’d say using two trades to go sideways seems like madness when you can get two of Smith/McDonald/Horsley/Adams up to an extra premo and keep Rocky.

However, looking up at you at the top of the table I say burn away ;)

Yeah, I am definitely leaning that way, the more that I think about it. The response it overwhelming though. Thanks for jerking me back to reality everybody!

May sound absolutely absurd, but seriously considering jack watts over the next 3-4 weeks. Great POD, has some some glimpses, has down games, but then again who doesn’t have down games. The reason why over the next 3-4 weeks is to see if there is consistency, and if he will stay in the back-line. Any thoughts? 3 Round average is 113.

I’ve never been a massive fan of JRoo for SC but if it is between him and Watts for the same coin I’d be taking the Jack of the Riewoldt variety. He might have a couple of shockers (so will Watts) but he is much more chance of winning you a couple of games with big scores.

There is a lot to be said for PODs though so if you’re really feeling Watts then go with your gut.

Yes, but you can trade non-playing players out now, because they will give you donuts regardless. GWS players which have flatlined which are the only ones I would trade from here. So you can have a GWS zero this week, or a non-GWS donut in R12 / R13. So in short, not trading or trading because of the bye rounds is not a good enough reason to burn trades unless they fit in with your end team.

J Macdonald and GWS said at the start of the year he as playing a mentoring role and would only play about 12 games. So that means I have two mid’s in my midfields not guaranteed games plus one who has said will be rested half the games so can’t afford to run that risk week to week.

I have been lucky enough to avoid the injury curse so far this year (except for Fyfe early on) but I knew it was too good to last. And after all my hard work to set my team up right to only have 1 or max. 3 donuts in each week of the bye rounds, that has all gone down the toilet now thanks to injuries to Shaw, Scotland and Pendlebury. Hope Redden, Smedts and Hall all get games again this week. But I will be trading like crazy – 17 left so let’s get trigger happy!

What are everyone’s thoughts on Priddis. he is very cheap at the moment after being KO’d against essendon (only scored 20 odd). In his other 7 games he has knocked up 6 tons and would be averaging well over a hundred if wasn’t KO’d against essendon. I’m thinking of getting him in after West Coasts bye this week.

I need some help.

Ranked 758 overall, should I still be gunning for overall (particularly if I navigate the byes well)? I only have 11 trades to start with this week.

If so, I’m thinking of trading Enright and Cloke (check out his scores from R10-23 last year after three bad weeks before that) for Scotland and Bugg; Priddis for Masten and Adcock for Clarke after R11 (plus one massive downgrade, probably Porps down to a rookie if possible, I have Smedts so could be a forward or defender); then Hayes up to Pendlebury after R12. Assuming there’s no outs (I had all 30 playing last round), I’d have 21 playing in R11, 20 in R12 and 20 in R13. Team would end up looking like this:

Deledio, Goddard, Broughton, Enright, Adcock, Lake, Darley, Smedts, Ellis
Ablett, Pendlebury, Watson, J Selwood, Dal Santo, Priddis, McDonald, Adams
Cox, Giles, Stephenson, Redden
Franklin, N Riewoldt, Stevie J, Zaharakis, Robinson, Martin, Cloke, Zorko, (yet to be determined rookie)

It would really only require one premium upgrade in defence from there, but I’d only have 5 trades left. If it’s not worth going for overall, I’ll hold on to Scotland and Clarke, and probably won’t do the Bugg to Cloke trade (by moving Smedts to defence) as I feel like I need at least one of Sidebottom or Dangerfield. I’ll easily make finals in both of my leagues so that’s not an issue.

For interest’s sake, I took a screen shot of my team last year, and looking back on it I found I was 1,109th after Round 9, but after Round 11 I was at 77th overall. Anything can change in 2 weeks, and especially with the byes now upon us, I’d certainly still be gunning for overall glory in your position. It’s not like you’ve got anything to lose if you’re already making finals in your leagues. Go for it!

Money permitting I would be off loading McDonald before Masten. Sheedy is on record saying that the old members will not be playing the latter part of the season because he wants to pump as many games into his young squad. You have only 11 trades left and do not have any of the Collingwood 5 big guns in Swan, Pendlebury, Thomas, Beams, and Sidebottom who take at least 550 points per game between them so maybe you should hold off on Cloke?

It may pay to hold off this week trading especially if Smedts plays and cop the three donuts. The real action over the byes is rounds 12 and 13.

You are definitely still in the mix.
Good luck with your choices.

Trade Giles + 100K for Sandi. Would leave me with Cox & Sandi as prem rucks, Redden & DPP spud on bench with addition of Hale in forwards as cover.

Thumbs UP: – Good trade. Should ave 20 more points than Giles from here
Thumbs DOWN: Bad trade. Sandi is still still an injury concern.

I’ll be doing the same with RoughNut in the forwards. Two spud options as far as I can tell are Hamling and Pattison. I was thinking Pattison to save the 12k but does anyone know anything about Hamling? Is he any show at all to get a run? Or Staley from the Saints?

Hamling looked a million dollars on the youtube clips i watched a couple of months ago. Word from a Cats fan is that he would spend the year in the 2′s playing defense. I would love him getting a game at some point as a bonus. Could not bring myself to bring in Pattison, however with McCauley going down last weekend he may get promoted from rookie list?

Overall 194,000
Average: 1800
Total points: 18,000

Have a look at his team, got some very unusual selections and doesn’t have many of the really popular big guns, full of POD’s many aren’t really supercoach relevant players. really goes to show anyone with a bit of luck can be high on the weekly rankings and score well.

They’d want him back against West Coast but with a crack in the tibia I wouldn’t be surprised if he missed. Good news for some with Swan almost certain to be back this week though.

Got me thinking now. Even if Pendles plays against the Weagles I might wait an extra week to pick him up. Tough game regardless, coming of two week break and they probably won’t push him too hard. Add to all that a 155 BE and see a big red Coles hand in the future.

D. Nicholson from Melbourne on the bubble. High price 2nd yr Rookie but looking at a better option then Hunt as a D7 as a POD

If you’re going to spend that much, you may as well get Rhyce Shaw at $307,600, who scored 142 on the weekend. BE of -28.

Does this mean I’m recommending him? NO.

Shaw looked really good in the pre season playing CHB, but they picked Tahlia round one and he,s doing well. Adelaide still have next to no injuries so he has done well to break into the side and I would guess they want to give him a few games like they have done with Jenkins

I have Pfeiffer to fill in for him, who is starting to make good scores with port playing better football. Don’t see the point in keeping him as I wont have any donuts this week .

I thought I had set up pretty well for the bye weeks, then Pendles, Lewis and Parker go down leaving me in a real problem. Parker’s out for 6-8 with a collar bone so trading him is a necessity. I was planning on trading him next week to a supercheap Priddis, but that would leave me with multiple doughnuts (not “donuts”) this week.
My mids currently sit at:
GAJ, Selwood, Swallow, PARKER, Horsely, Zorko (PENDLEBURY, SHEIL)

I’m completely stumped on what to do. My plan was to next week go Parker —> Priddis then Horsely —> JPK the week after, but as you can see, that would cause some serious short term pain.
Thoughts on what I should do? I’m struggling…

Hey guys.
At the start of the year i helped m mum (55) make a team. I basically only helped her with rookie players but she put her own favourite players in. She is absolutely dominating now. Tell me what you think of this team!

Backs: Goddard, Deledio, Waters, Lake, Marty Clarke, Dempsey, Darely, Ellis

Mids: Pendlebury, Watson, Hayes, Abblett, Thompson, Horsley, Old McDonald, T Adams

Rucks: Giles, Kruezer, McIntosh, Redden

Fowards: N Riewoldt, Danderfield, Sidebottom, Chapman, Franklin, Betts, Hall, Folau

Now she still has 10 trades and $387,000 left in the bank.
Also has 14 players averaging over 100
She is thinking of trading in (after this round) Priddis for Horsley and Sandilands for McIntosh.
Any rookies you guys can suggest to make a little bit more money for her?

Gday Matt
Sam shaw could be a good down grade for ya backs but wait till after his rd11 bye.
Not sure about Elliot’s JS when Collingwood get players back from injury but he scored 106 on the weekend and could be a good downgrade option in ya fwd line
Hope this helps….

I would probably keep him, but it seems Rossy has played him in a less SC suited roll in the last few weeks. He may return to early season form, but who knows (only Ross). I would reassess after this week, because at least he is playing this week and is not having his bye. If he under performs again- trade him before his round 12 bye to a Dangerfield or Co who has already had their bye.

No real PODS in your forward line so far- therefore I think you should pick up a unique player.

These are the players I would consider:
Ryan O’Keefe- $495,700
Michael Johnson (F/D)-$479,500
Jack Reiwoldt- $452,300
Or even go with Cloke if you are willing to take a bigger risk.

Hope that helps
