Its weeks like this you’re reminded of the SC mantra: “never trade out a premium unless they have suffered a long term injury”. There’s a few blokes this applies to in Round 12. Chapman, Franklin and Montagna all come to mind.
What’s your trading situation this week?

Really Struggling. What should I do? Want to use 1 trade as I am versing top on the ladder. Have 101thousand in bank. Horrible Rucks, but I don’t know where I should trade/improve.
Def: Adcock, Birchall, Goddard, Heppell, Shaw (syd), Martin
[Gram, Cribbin, Andreoli]
Mid: Mundy, Thompson, Bartel, Fyfe, Trengove, Higgins
[Swallow, I Smith, Mzungu]
Ruck: Z Smith, Warnock
[Hille, Keeffe]
Fwd: Pavlich, Roughead, Goodes, Tom Lynch (GC), Krakouer, Darling, Dangerfield
[Tom Lynch, Ferguson, Von Bertouch]
Any help thanks.

It’s hard to improve your team if your rookies aren’t playing, so you’re kinda hamstrung there. I don’t know much about Cribbin, Andreoli, Lynch (stk) Ferguson and Von Bertouch aren’t in many teams — there’s probably a reason for that.
Not sure how many trades you have left or which rookies are coming thru, but you need some growth desperately.

Fyfe shoulder sort of injured, and probably not gonna get better without extended layoff or surgery. So might mean his scoring is hurt a bit or he becomes a donut for a period.
Rioli on the other hand will have more erratic scoring and probably eventually do his hammie. Tho I really pray not.
Take your pick.

Personally im not trading IN any players who have a sc finals bye, i was happy to have them from the start and ive got a plan to get rid of them when it becomes neccesary but its a waste now.

Yeah just picked him up he played CRAP and Enright got 105 this week and averging 96 and Guerra got 51 this week and averages 80 odd. What about my other trade got to be good McCauley is not even getting a game got to have someone scoring right? Got a few trades though thought Guerra would of been in awesome form V Fremantle considering his last few weeks. Got 2,111 if your wondering what I got. If your not happy with these trades I will put up a few more trade options I could do thanks.

R- Cox, Smith
(Sandilands, Moran)
F- Franklin, Goodes, Pavlich, N.Riewoldt, Petrie, J.Riewoldt, Yarran

Otten was an emergency last week so I think he will be close to playing. And has a B/E of about 20 so there is plenty of upside to Otten. And if you have held onto him for this long.. I Would be more inclined to get rid of Lower as he has much more money to his name, and I don’t know what his B/E is but there can’t be much more money to gain from him.

Do I need to trade?? I feel my team is pretty much complete (apart from a few weak bench players).
Im Coming 731 overall, 60k spare.
My only concern is round 14 where my Collingwood boys will be benched (forcing me to play Hibberd & cop a likely donut). Should I burn a trade and bring Puopolo (which I shouldve done ages ago!) in now for a bench Back before he hits 300k?? He seems to be consistently putting up solid scores.
Deledio, Gibbs, H.Shaw, Fisher, Heppel, Broughton, Lower
(McKernan, Buckley, Markovic)
Swan, Pendles, Bartel, Joelwood, Scott Thompson, Cotchin
(Mzungu, Atley, Hibberd)
Coxy, Smith
(Sandi, McCauley)
Franklin, Goodes, Dawes, N.Reiwoldt, Fyfe, Petrie, Darling
(Duncan, Matera, Tappscott)
Suggestions, thoughts, criticisms, etc are all welcome.

I’m with Ollie there. Have to crunch the numbers but you could go something along the lines of Tapscott to Howe then McKernan to Newman/Adcock/Enright/Suckling. Lose nothing in the forward line, strenghten the backs nad hold onto Lower.
Come Rd 14 you will have Lower for Shaw and Mzungu + Hibberd for Swan + Pendles.

My fwd line is abysmal. Have $309K in the bank to upgrade useless players such as Knights, Gamble, Matera and Richardson. Need to bring in J. I am playing my best mate this weekend, with $50 & most importantly bragging rights up for grabs.
Current Squad:
Backs: Goddard, Gibbs, Heppell, Enright, Lower, Duigan, Harbrow
(Bench: Stanley, Puopolo, Hibberd)
Mids: Swan, Mundy, Selwood, Ablett, Deledio, Krakouer
(Bench: Conca, Harris, Jacobs)
Fwds: Pavlich, Johnson, Goodes, J Riewoldt, Knights, Rioli, Mzungu
(Bench: Darling, Hurley, Lynch)
Would love your opinion…. Thinking of strengthening my midfield, especially with Swan possible out this week. Current bank account – $650,000
Trades:
Conca > Pendlebury
Harris > Priddis

Add Knights/Darling/Harbrow/Stanley/Duigan/Lower to the mix of those you could also make upgrades to.
1. Upgrade Harris to a gun midfielder, Priddis will serve you well, but leave Pendlebury for 2 weeks. No point having him AND Swan on your bench in Rd 13.
2. Upgrade one of the above, probably Harbrow to a gun defender, Chris Newman/Greg Broughton look the goods this week.
Good luck.

2011 average: Didak 65, Darling 78
There is no guarantee Didak will average better than Darling by the end of the year. You have the luxury to wait a week or two on Didak to see if he improves.
I am personally thinking Darling will make a great emergency for the finals given the Eagles nice run home.

I’m with Kernal, as many people have said in this forum, Didak is Captain of the Spuds. I can see your point with a few mids out of pies this week, but that won’t be for long and if (and only if Didak has a couple good rounds) he won’t keep it up all year. IMO Stay Away!
Like or Dislike:

I was leaning the same way, but i thought id throw it out there.
Didak for a permanent bench spot might be another option, not a hell of a llot of good forwards out there atm.
I have Pav, Goodes, Rok, Franklin, N Roo, Stevie J Darling
Richardson, Mzungu, McKernan on the pine.
Didak is a risk i understand that, i had him in my team before the start of the season but went for Stevie J (another risk that paid off)
Not really going for league win or overall, just doing it for a bit of competition with mates. Only have 11 trades left so was looking at planning a bit for finals

My other predicament is Heppel, SC finals bye (if i make it) have Hibbered and watson as well, had them all from the start. Could switch jacobs to D and heppel to M then updgrade to Pendelbury or Scott Thompson, or would you drop Harris first?
Harris will play every week and no more byes

One last gun mid to go alongside Pendle, Swan, Joelwood, Joey and Cross.

I bought Mundy in a few weeks ago. Great Mid choice as very consistent and plays all finals. PLUS had a medium game last round, so price is very reasonable. His scores will also get better once Sandi is back!
I can’t go past Ablett tho. Bought him in last week.. Current form sais he is back to his best and plays NM @ Gold Coast this week. Expensive but worth every penny!

Dengo, The only reason of getting Pendlebury in before bye was because he is in my opponents team and I was happy to take the risk and play him, knowing he would be out the week after. (Pendlebury’s B/E is a low 79. Harbrow was my backline experiment that didn’t quite go to plan, but still averages around 70 – 90 per week. Was going to keep him as b6 or b7. Lower & Duigan can be a bit up & down… Who would you suggest trading out & trading in then? Fisher seems to be the flavour of the week…

I would say no because I doesn’t matter who you are playing next week but it does matter when the finals are on and only then. Swan will be back and if he is over his injuries then he will tear it up. The dude kicked 4 goals on a bum leg for christs sake. I also still maintain that Ablett will wear down in about 4-5 weeks.

In a perfect world you should have 8 trades left come finals time.
so 10 trades left after this week leaves you pretty skimp for the remaining 9 rounds to finals…just hope for no LTI’s.
Personally, having 8 trades left at finals is my plan, other people may differ, but I reckon being able to comfortably swap out players 2 at a time come finals will be invaluable!

I’ve heard people mention 9 and 13 left, so I think you’re middle of the field for remaining trades.
It’s always a gamble. If you trade early and bring in the big guns, you get to ride big scorers for the longest time. BUT that also cuts down your ability to adjust to injury and form changes over a very long season.
You’re essentially locked into your course and riding your luck injurywise.
I tend to think you *have* to trade hard early, but 3 or 4 injuries is enough to make you look kinda stupid if you do.

Also it depends on weather or not your going for league or overall glory. If your going for league glory there is really no reason to trade in R16 & R19 expect maybe for a downgrade option who’s on the bubble.

8 trades for finals would be ideal but I’m thinking 6 will most likely be enough. Especially if you’ve cleaned up your team to avoid having bye players. In this case, you should only need to trade for injuries. You’d be unlucky if you had 6 injuries in the finals.

Don’t chastise* me too much here…
Thinking about grabbing LeCras before his price rises above what it was when I traded him out for Tappy after his over reaction to a bad cramp in Rnd 1.
Would have to be a downgrade of Matera -> Howe (or similar)
Then I’d trade C Richardson -> LeCras
Would mean my FWDs would read: Pav, Buddy, Stevie J, Goodes, Boomer, NRoo, Lecca (Darling, I. Smith, Howe)
Would leave me with 10 trades and stuff all in the bank.

I had cast him for the year after Rnd 1 and then again when he returned two mid 60 scores on return, but 3 tons from his last 4 games with a 144 last week (I know who it was against…) has just got me thinking outside the square.
Spare cash is a bit of a problem, hence looking for that mid-ranger who could have a big end to the season.
Hadn’t really thought about it, but could downgrade Swallow then upgarde Matera to just about anyone (if the maths off teh top of my head is correct…).

Trade out Tapscott or Richardson to J Tippett, and then swap with Petrie to the forward line. Then you can have both Petrie and Smith on the field, and good cover for when Sandi comes back.

Max, you have a great team there. Maybe hold off this week, but look to up-grade Iles & Wallis to Mid/Def & Mid/For DPP options to help you during byes & finals. I. Smith prior to his 3rd game for one of them would be a good call. Probs need 1 more prem in forwards prior to Saints (rd 14) & Hawks (rd 17) byes so upgrading Darling, Tapscott or Richardson is a good call.

No way I’m going anywhere near Didak until he starts showing some form. Picking up a guy who, in 10 games has only cracked 90 once doesn’t sound sensible to me. I’d prefer Darling + 1 trade (they are GOLD after all) over Didak + $40K any day of the week. So what if he’s is only $278,800. The guys you trade in from this point should only be premiums who will score 100+ points per game from this point onwards. Settling for anything less will end in regret. Sure, if he posts two 100s in a row, then consider, he’d still be as cheap as anything. Darling will make for adequate bench cover the whole season. Use the trade to upgrade a Harris to an Ablett, a Tapscott to a Pavlich, or a Duigan to a Fisher and know what you’ll be getting week in week out. Points, that’s what we’re playing for after all isn’t it?

Like or Dislike:

Strauss was considered to be the best kick out of anyone in his draft year – I think Melbourne picked him up at pick 19 – unfortunately I’m not sure he is up to AFL level. He seems a bit soft (he came from Scotch college) and crumbles under pressure. Although his kicking is good, his decision-making thus far hasn’t been. He got an OK score in this recent game, but when I was watching him preseason (thought he might be a bargain) he was pretty disappointing.

Don’t see the point in getting Griffen, as he’ll most likely be out when Sandilands returns. Not sure what your purpose is with this trade, but I wouldn’t be getting Vardy in to be a starting ruckman, and $154,800 is getting expensive for a first year player. I only like getting them at bargain basement price, otherwise you feel ripped off. Be easier to give advice if you enlightened us with your current ruck line-up.

The question of who’s better Krakouer or Lower all comes down to where you need the coverage. Krakouer’s DPP flexibility and smaller BE probably puts him slightly ahead. I would do the first trade option, because that way you don’t have the two Freo defenders primed for a loss of points come their bye, plus you are getting rid of an injured player in Tapscott who also has a high BE.

Considering my last 3 trades are injured (Sandi, Chappy, and Sylvia) do I a) believe that the curse has now been lifted or
B) believe that the curse will run beyond 3 and turn a negative into a positive by listing my next trade on e-bay and for the highest bidder i will trade a player of their choice into my team that will destroy their opposition.

Realise they aren’t going to be re-inventing the wheel this year but it was in reference to the added strain with the sub and a longer year. The fact that they are referring to it already is a big worry.
Finals time for SC is going to throw some massive curve balls.
I’m still chasing the overall dream so looking to be completely pimped out in two weeks with only 6 trades left. Do you think if I sacrificed Relton Roberts the SC Gods will look kindly on me for the rest of the year?

Don’t worry too much about teams resting their guns: a) You can’t plan for it and b) you probably SHOULDN’T try to plan for it and c)everyone is in the same boat – it just adds an additional element of luck and excitement to a game which already requires luck and contains excitement – more alcohol, less hops makes a better brew.

Yes he could score some good scores later in the year, but I’m going for overall (only 731, but still….). if he’s missing the next 3′weeks, I’ve gotta slot mzungu or Duncan in. With my 60k spare,’I could afford anyone 510k and under.
Current mids are SWAN, pendles, bartel, joelwood, Scotty T, cotchin.
Could easily slot in a Judd/swallow/Mitchell/Goddard/hodge/pavlich etc in there.

What to do next ? Plan what to do with the $50,000 prize ! Good team. Next trade would depend upon which Swallow you have in the Mids … if it’s David, you’d want to upgrade him or Harris – who has a high B/E this week – to a premium. If it’s Andrew Swallow, you could trade Duigan to Broughton or Enright and pop Lower on the bench, OR you could just conserve your trades for when injuries hit because your fwds and backs have great coverage and the “non-premiums” would still be keepers in many teams. Where are you ranked ?

Hey mate. Have you got anyone in the midfield that you can swap back. I’d just be a bit worried that come the Richmond bye (round 19) that you’re going to loose Lids and Newman and have to rely on 2 of Coad (injury) Pederson (job security) Jacobs or who ever you can move from the middle down back to get a game. Then again it all depends on whether your going for just a league win or still in the running for overall.
With that said I’d still be going Newman, but have you considered Broughton etc

Darling to Sylvia?

Mate some good trades there, but with Collingwoods bye next week hold off with the Heppe; to Pendles and Lower to Shaw.
Darling to Syliva is a bit iffy. Syliva’s going to lose money for a few weeks because of his 34 against Essendon, where as Darlings got Port Adelaide, Adelaide andCarlton before the bye so a really chance of still making a bit of coin. I’m not saying don’t do it, I’d just be waiting a week or two, once Melbourne have played both Collingwood and Fremantle.
Harris to anyone is a pretty good idea this week, with his high breakeven (118) I’d be taking the $180,000 he made and trading. Thompson\s a nice unique pick, but doesn’t have a lot of midfield support so may cop a heavy tag which would limit his scoring. Still has to play Geelong twice.
If you did the two trades Heppel to Penles and Harris to Thompson it would leave you a mid of Penles, Swan, Judd, Selwood, Montagna, Thompson, Watson, Hibberd, Mzungu and Jacobs, which I’ll admit is an awesome midfield line, but you’ll have to bench a $500,000+ prem each week
Like or Dislike:

Yeah your right 100% but then again Watson wont be there come the finals so it could be a downgrade for cash to use elsewhere come finals.
I Dont have to trade this week, but who will lose more cash, Harris over the next 2 weeks or Thompson.
Depends on scores, but Thompson is more expensive so i think he will drop… Sylvia will be cheap in a few weeks, Shaw has a high B/E as well… but Pendles will go up again this week, i might have missed the boat on him for now.
Dont you hate this 2 trade a week crap, would be nice to have your 24 for all year. once they are gone well they are gone. Your bad luck. Seriously, some weeks i wish i could do 4-5 trades then not trade for 2 months.
If Smith comes in this week ill downgrade Harris or Mckernan for him and pocket the cash

I gathered that you would be trading out Watson before finals but now till at least round 20-22, which means you’r going to have 7 premium mids (who aren’t dpp) for roughly the next 8-10 weeks with 1 on the bench each week. Swan and Pendles will have had both there byes, Judd, Selwood and Watson’s byes are in the finals so will possibily be traded out the week of their bye, so it’s only really Montagna’s and Thompson’s byes that you really have to cover.
Surely you’ve got a forward dpp such as a Goodes, ROK, Fyffe or Chapman (etc) that you could drop back to cover thoses 2 weeks. Muzungu and Hibberd will constantly get you the 60 -75 scores but I doubt they’ll score the 110+ we expect from our premiums.
According to Supercoach Gold Harris is predicted to score 78 this week against the Roos, and drop from $305,800 to $290,000. However he is expected to rebound back to $306,00 the week after (against the Hawks) but this is based on him scoring 101, which I carn’t see happening. While I don’t think he’ll bounce back to $306,000 I think he will end up somewhere around the $293-$301,000 mark after the Hawthorn game.
Thompson is currently $503,400 with a break even of 103 (against West Coast in Adelaide) Supercoach Gold predicts he will score 137 Iwhich I think is a tad high) resulting in his price jumping $13600 to $517,000. However he then plays the Bulldogs (at Etihad) with a break even of 136, and is predicted to drop $12,500 back to $504,300 (pretty much his price this week)
Like I said these prices are based on Supercoach Gold so don’t take them as definate prices, cause a players scores can’t be accurately predicted weeks in advance but its food for thought.
Whilst I agree it would be good to be able to make more than 2 trades per week especially early in the season to pick up the cash cows you missed out on, I think the 2 trade max is a good idea. It puts more of an emphasis on picking a great team at the start of the year (doing your research) and takes a bit of luck out of it.

so im playing a complete spud in my league and thought it would be a great week to save my trades.
but then i realised that stevie J is on his way up and that i might miss the boat on him. i also feel at this stage of the season i need another premium in my forward line
right now i only have 4 premium keepers plus, krak, tom lynch(GC), matera, richardson, markovic and didak.
i have enough cash to do a straight swap with any of those guys so my question is.
do i save my trades because im guaranteed a league win? (thumbs up)
or do i upgrade someone like matera or krak to stevie J before his next price rise??? (thumbs down)

Mate jumping on Stevie J is like jumping aboard a train at the 2nd last stop and still paying full price. There will be a little bit of gain but not enough to make it worth while (a trade)
Trades will be like gold come finals, with alot of teams having multiple Essendon, Carlton and Geelong players who have the bye come that period
Depending on who your 4 premium forwards are, have you thought about Syliva (in 2-3 weeks once the 32 is out of his rolling cycle) Chapman (in 2-3 weeks. Will also take points from Stevie J) ROK, Pavlich, Cyril even Nathan Fyfe. There are quite a few around

Firstly i’d be moving Goodes into your forward line. Doesn’t score enough to be a premium midfielder. Premium forward yes, midfielder no. You want your midfielders to be scoring 110 – 120 each week.
Secondly I’d be looking at making some coin somewhere ( why did you keep Curnow) I’d be looking at someone to a rookie. Curnow to I.Smith (if named) etc.
Then upgrade Harris to anyone. Mundy (be careful with Barlow and others to come back in the following weeks, but the benefit of a multi bye so no head to head) Priddus (you don’t seem to have any other West Coast players) Boyd (in a few weeks as be’s going to drop a bit)
That allows you to keep Swan for the moment. He’s only going to miss 2 weeks (Melbourne and the bye) or at the very worst 3 weeks.
Swan’s biggest asset is his gut running. His ability to run over the top of everyone for 4 quarters. His disposal isn’t always the best so he generally requires a lot of the ball to rack up the big scores, unlike Pendles who uses it a lot better.
When he returns have a look at how he pushes off from contests, ie the first 4-5 steps. If he’s still lagging or looking a bit sluggish he’s probably still struggling and you could then look at trading him out. On the other hand if he’s splitting packs and getting the footy first you know he’s back.

(McKernan : A Johnson : Hibberd)
Pendlebury : Mundy : Priddis : Selwood : Foley : Heppell
(Jacobs : Smith : Mzungu)
Cox : Smith
(Sandilands : J Tippet)
Pavlich : Goodes : N Riewoldt : Petrie : J Riewoldt : Chapman : Rioli

Aim : Is to finish as high as possible and be the highest ranked in her school (to piss the boys off!!)
Was thinking this week
Darling to Howe
Heppell to Ablett
with future trades of
Lower to Shaw/Fisher
Foley to Swan/Thompson/Hodge/Boyd etc

I would be swapping goddard back to the defence for Heppel…
Then you wouldnt be far off upgrading Heppel to a premium.
There are alot more premium Mids performing then Premium Defenders.
Not sure about Cotchin. He is averaging just under 100 but he can also spud it up big time. But everyone has their own opinions.
Besides that I cant see anything else i can comment on negatively.
Great looking team

Cheers mate had planned on the following
This week
Otten, Cotchin ———–> Rookie, Ablett
Like the idea of moving Goddard, maybe if i bring in a D/M for Otten this week, then i could do that as it gives me another DPP back. If i then downgrade Smith ——–> J.Tippett when Sandi gets back that will allow me to upgrade Yarran and Iles into Sylvia and a midfield premium. Bringing in J.Tippett would allow me to play Petrie when Sandi and Cox have their byes. While along the track trading Bewick to Callinan for a M/F player through my mids.
So basically i would end up with a team of
B- Gibbs, Deledio, Goddard, H.Shaw, Adcock, Duffield, Gilbert
(Lower, Howard, D/M rookie)
C- Swan, Ablett, Boyd, Selwood, Hodge, Premium
(Heppell, Callinan, Jacobs)
R- Sandilands, Cox
(Moran, J.Tippett)
F- Franklin, Goodes, Pavlich, Sylvia, N.Riewoldt, Petrie, J.Riewoldt

Good team.
Bewick (shocking average + likely to be dropped) to I.Smith if named gets you a MID / FOR DPP which you are missing in Mids to link with your big 3 in forwards & therefore cover when Swan & Goddard out.
Darling or Richardson at some point for Grundy & or Talia would also give you a FOR / DEF link to Gilbert in defence.

Cheers mate, may get Smith if he is named, but if not will probably just wait for Callinan. Had planned earlier in the year to get Talia in but unsure if i will now as Gilbert is performing since i brought him in better then expected

I would wait a week on Otton as you have waited this long & i think he will be named this week + his be is very small. For the money that he is he could earn $100 in a few weeks + be good cover down back. Would not be surprised to see Talia this week either – High draft pick rookie with DPP is on my radar to link with Bob Murphy (could be a consideration also for yourself in a trade for Darling or other).

This week:
Smith out : Tippet in (move Petrie to R2 while sandi is out)
Heppell out : Ablett in (move jacobs to def – this allows for swan cover)
Next week:
Darling out : Howe in (providing he is still playing)
Richardson out : Premium in (maybe Didak?) or someone different for a POD
leaves you with 8 trades for LTI’s, form slumps etc

Cheers mate, i have a few queries, Smith i believe still has a fair bit of money to make, while Heppell can be a good bench cover player up until his final bye. Darling seems to be a bench keeper in order to have a higher scoring rookie play over that of a low scorer, Richo is a bit like Relton in that it is probably pointless in trading him out.

jumped from 12,200 ranking last week to 4662. Have 11 trades remaining and am starting to think i should begin conserving them. I have $215,100 in the bank. Team is :
Deledio, Enright, Gibbs, H Shaw, Hurley, Heppell, Goddard (Lower, Duigan, Toy)
Pendles, Ablett, Dal Santo, Priddis, Pavlich, Cotchin (Kraks, Jacobs, Bewick)
Z Smith, Cox (Sandi & Macauley)
Fyfe, Sylvia, Goodes, Rioli, Petrie, Yarran, Darling (Lynch (Suns), Richardson & Mzungu)
I was hoping to upgrade Darling to Franklin but am about $2k short and i think Franklin will not play this week
Also looking long term and want to have Duigan & Yarran, and to a lesser extent Gibbs out by Finals time. Really want to have a strong bench finals time so will be looking to hold onto Kraks, Lower & Mzungu
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

When upgrading your backs, it is worth throwing Heppell into the mix? If you trade say Heppell out for Fisher you save any possability of burning a trade come finals time.
Or should Heppell be considered a keeper?
My backs at the minute are:
Dids, Goddard, Gibbs, Broughton, Heppell, Lower, Puopolo
(Duigan, Thompson, Jacobs).

He’s a keeper if you’re not planning on making the GF otherwise why would you have ~$400k sitting on the bench in the most important game of the year? I’ll be upgrading him prior to finals when Fisher/Shaw have a quiet couple of games and its almost sideways.

one reason you would keep heppell at this moment is that his price is not going to drop all year .
reason two ..he fills in the gaps when the multi byes(rnd 16 19 )are on.(round 16 multi .. I have 7 players out )
reason three …has a nice 90 average.
I would trade heppell out after round 19

Adcock is going down on price – but you are backing a return to form / use in the correct roles.
Duffman??
Johncock & Newman don’t have finals bye’s and are still fairly cheap this week.
Gilbert would be good call, however you would be in strife come Saints bye in round 14.

He’s got tons of courage, that may be enough to impress Bailey for a while, but i see him playing a role in the midfield more then defence with our best midfielders being
Sylvia, Moloney, Davey, Scully, Trengove, Bail, McKenzie, Jones, Gysberts – Then add Evans and Nicholson to that
So with Davey out for 8-6, Bail for 3-4, that means our midfield for the next few weeks will look like this
C- Trengove, Sylvia, Jones
R- Martin, Moloney, Scully
Inter- McKenzie, Gysberts, ????, ????
Sub- ???
Therefore i would expect one of Evans/Nicholson to be on teh bench or on a half forward flank, and maybe one on the bench at this stage Evans seems to be ahead of Nicholson and taht may mean when Bail comes back Nicholson makes way. Then when Davey gets back he will probably take the others spot. So in terms of his JS he may be playing an A.Gaff role as sub most of the time, and may be out in a few weeks.

Do you spend any time actually studying for school Russ or is it just SC stats? Don’t get me wrong, I think you’re a legend being able to research and analyse such data, I’m just worried about your education/career. Either that or you need to lay off the Nodoze a bit!
WRT Sandi, his past injuries have been at a time where he’s firstly carried them for some time before treatment and then been rushed back in due to the stage of the season. I’m thinking this time they will manage it properly with the bye and he will be back better than ever.

No need to worry about my studies/schooling am at the top of my classes in most of my subjects and am a budding journalist. I like to use stats just as a gauge, although it can be wrong a fair bit. Bit harsh on Darling Crabby. Knocked out a lazy 99 against the Hawks at Launceston in a losing team. Averages 70 in 4 away games (inc. the 47 against the Pies) and 85 at Subi. Lads, thought I’d seek a bit of advice on your website as I find myself at rank no.31 overall. Seem to have gotten right or fluked every decision I’ve made so far and have the following team:
11 trades left, $27,400 in the bank
B: Deledio Goddard Gibbs Adcock Rawlings Heppell Lower
(Hibberd Toy Otten)
C: Pendlebury Murphy DalSanto Bartel Ablett Hodge
(Gysberts Jacobs Mzungu)
R: Cox Smith (Sandilands Bailey)
F: Pavlich Franklin Johnson Goodes Sylvia Chapman Petrie
(Darling Lynch Richardson)
- Should I have a crack at winning the competition and burn more trades this week and next, or play it safer and keep some powder dry for finals?
- Was thinking to get Fisher and Shaw into my backline and take the risk of trading Smith to Tippett to get it done. Got Petrie for the DPP with Tippett and Bailey also there as backup. What do you think, should I be ballsy and go for it? Or maybe a safer downgrade/upgrade like Toy – Howard and then Heppel to Shaw and do it more carefully that way?
Any thoughts appreciated!

Good luck to you, I hope you can grab the choccies. You have some team and I think you should be doling out to the advice to us
I am poised just outside the top 10k waiting to pounce. I’d love to know what your original team was and you went about trading yourself into 31st possie.
Your trading strategy has a lot of merit, but, maybe you don’t need to pull the trigger on that trade until Sandi returns in 3 or 4 weeks. Shaw has a bye in two weeks, so you’d want to wait 3 weeks to get him, and with your backline, you could probably afford to hold off on Fisher. Smith has a low b/e this week and will not only -hopefully- continue to provide you with good on-field coverage & scoring value, but, will make you more money. I also think that you’ll be in a more flexible trading position for the run home if you hold off on trading for a few weeks.
Ottens & Toy are the two I think you should upgrade in your backline leaving you Hibberd/Heppell/Lower as your D bench and your Def becomes:
Fisher/Shaw/Deledio/Goddard/Gibbs/Adcock/Rawlings
You’d then have 7 or 8 trades left and barring injury I’d hold onto them for closer to finals time.

Thank you, appreciate your and Damen’s advice. I think I’ll get Fisher in now and work towards that backline you suggested. That’s what I had in mind, too. The make or break move will be when to pull the trigger on cashing in on Smith.
Anyway, here’s my original team as it was in round 1:
B: Gibbs Goddard Deledio Grimes Adcock Otten Duigan
(Lower Toy Hibberd)
C: Pendlebury Murphy Bartel Cotchin Anthony Krakouer
(Heppell Conca Swallow)
R: Sandilands Cox (Smith Bailey)
F: Franklin Goodes Sylvia Johnson Knights Tapscott Richardson
(Petrie Darling Matera)
Best moves:
- Going with Sandi and Cox from the start was essential
- Punting on Cotchin and Adcock really paid off
- Most rookies cashed up well and wasn’t afraid in round 2 and 3 to trade for better rookies (ie. brought in Curnow and Harris)
- Gysberts for Krakouer early has turned out to be a good trade. Ball magnet who should provide good 8th mid cover in finals.
- Took punts on Dal Santo and the underpriced Bartel that seems to have paid off so far
- Got Ablett, Chappy and Hodge in at bargain prices (you just can’t keep a good gun down!)
* Not sure if that sheds any light but that’s how I haphazardly went about it. This site, Fanfooty and DTtalk were essential reading throughout.

If i were you (and geez i wish i was), i’d be considering burning Sandilands for J Tippett to allow Petrie to swing into the ruck if required at some point. This will give you an extra 400K in the ole skyrocket to enable further trading, notably Lower, and sideways trades to avoid the odd bye here and there. Heppell’s also possibly another trade out option.
But i’m 6,000th and you are 31st so pretty much do the opposite of me and you’ll be right.
Interesting to see how similar you start up team was to mine and to see the impact a speculative pick gone wrong can be for you.

Roo Bloke, I have taken the plunge and done exactly what you suggested. Burned Sandilands for Tippett and will now load up my backline. Started this week with Fisher and will add two of Broughton, Newman and Shaw in the coming two weeks. Will be a pretty impressive side all over the park once that’s done, with decent cover on the bench. Like many my ruck combo will be Cox Smith with Petrie as DPP cover and I can always brinbg Sandi back in after the Freo bye with some rookie cash.
Will only have about 5 trades left from Round 15 onwards but what the hell, gotta crack the whip have a shot at the prize! Thanks for the advice.

Anyone who is ranked in the Top 100 at this point has a chance of winning the whole thing – personally I would forget about a League win at this stage and go for it – forget about “Finals” coz they don’t matter in overall win. DON’T be safe – even if you end up 2nd that’s still a feather in the cap and a talking point for next season !

Yep – if you are that close to the top you really NEED to trade up until you have all premiums, not that Lower is bad but Fisher has a much higher ceiling and greater consistency.

Which is a good idea if you are going for a league win. If you still have a realistic chance of winning the overall, you need to keep trading to have an all-premium team at this stage and then hibernate for the last 6 weeks or so.

Lids, Shaw, Adcock, Goddard, Broughton, Grundy, Duigan.
Pine… Stanley, L Thompson, Toy.
Priddis, ROK, Selwood, Gibbs, Heppell, D Swallow.
Pine… Smith, Mzungu, Swan.
Z Smith, Tippett.
Pine…Sandilands, A Spud.
Pavlich, Fyfe, Goodes, N Riewoldt, Franklin, Chapman, Darling.
Pine… Matera, T Lynch, Petrie.
This is what my team will look like without trades/DPP help…..
need help…
possible Chappy? Buddy? Sandi!! and Swan!! as outs..
Is this the only circumstance when trading Sandi becomes an option??
ie: Sandi —–> Cox
Petrie —–>Ruck (have Tippett) and something like
Matera —-> Howe as bench cover (and $$$) for Chappy/Buddy
Pavlich, Fyfe, Goodes and Chappy can Swap with ROK, I Smith and Mzunga as For/Mid and

Lids and God can switch with Gibbs and Heppell as Def/Mid but DPP can’t get me out of being short up forward unless I smith and/or Chappy plays
I pulled a similar move already sending Jamar(LTI) —> a spud + $$$ and used Petrie/Tippett.

Dont know how relevant or even reliable this is. But according to Fremantle’s website Sandilands is listed as 3 weeks (updated 7/6/11) was 3-4 weeks last week. Considering he’s already missed 2 weeks with the possibility of 3 more games (or even longer, would they really risk him 1 week before the bye or give him the extra week off) some may look at offloading him to upgrade to premiums in others areas in 1 trade, rather than having to double trade to get the coin to be able to afford the premiums. Thoughts?

He’s perennially on the cusp of being selected. Looms as a likely replacement for MacMillan who got his jaw broken by a hip and shoulder that the MRP deemed as satisfactory. If you’ve persisted with Richardson all this time then i’d hang in there a little longer.

With him already having Rd 14 bye & no certain starter for Rd 13 (Swan already out for me in Rd 12 & 13) + his high BE when he’s back, is anyone thinking of trading him? The guy who’s team you have least in your squad. If you’re just going for the league win and don’t care about your overall ranking, then probably Fyfe. Johnson has a bye in finals, Rioli could clash with Franklin in the Rd 14 bye, not to mention his likelihood of another injury.

I’d pick Sizzle ..Check your Rd17 opponent and see how many hawks he has and whether you could still pull off victory..I reckon he is in for a big finish to the year and hawks travelling beautifully…

Ok. Ive got 25,400 in the bank.
I want to trade Knights (BE 79) out for J.Tippet, to swap with Petrie. That will complete my forward line with Pavlich, Fyfe, Franklin, Yarran, Didak, Rioili and PETRIE, with Darling, Richardson and T.Lynch on the bench.
Then I will have 216,800 and I can trade out Batchelor (BE 42) for anyone out of Broughton/Adcock/Newman/Duffield/Gilbert/Enright/Hurn. Then the next week I can get in Brett Deledio (BE 115) who hopefully goes down in price. I am thinking out of Newman, Adcock or Broughton.

Hold on to your trades Maxibon!
Check if Heppell is playing (teams out at 5 today apparently). If he’s named as emergency, slot Puopolo in.
Later, you should look to get a MID/FOR DPP in your mids (you’ve got 3 in your FOR but none in your mids, I think). This will give you flexibility in the back half of the season.

Give Toy more time. Lower has a BE of 90 this week – it might be time to move him on. It’ll cost you less to upgrade him too. I like Lids as a target – DPP, multi team bye, gun.
Don’t forget to save trades for finals – with Bartel, Selwood and Judd in the middle you’re going to need them.

Already planning on it mate. I do wish I had’ve selected Mundy rather than Bartel, and Boyd over Judd to start the season though. This bye stuff is really painful. Thems the breaks.
Thanks for the advice anyway. Much appreciated.
Lower or Martin to move on?
Don’t get me wrong, Martin’s been sensational recently, but I’m worried about his JS and scoring ability when Jamar returns. This week against Collingwood, I dare say his score could be less than his 79 BE. If I trade out Toy to Lids now, then I can move Martin on to Fisher St Kilda’s second bye, and have Lower as a solid back up on the bench. Was planning on moving on Lower this week, but Jacobs average of 56 doesn’t scream ‘fantastic back up’.
Hmmmmmmmmmm, questions.

How about this for a trade plan that will hopefully ride me up into real contention for the $50K (sitting pretty at 77th right now)
For Rd12:
Sandilands > Vardy
Tapscott > Pavlich
Rd13: Sit tight, No trades
Rd14:
Iles > Pendlebury
Will leave 9 trades left, with this team:
BAC: Fisher, Deledio, Gibbs, Goddard, Shaw, Duffield, Enright
EMG: Lower, Hibberd, Toy
MID: Pendlebury, Swan, Priddis, Judd, Selwood, Hodge
EMG: Heppell, Harris, Jacobs
RUC: Cox, Smith
EMG: Vardy, J.Tippett
FWD: Franklin, Pavlich, Goodes, O’Keefe, S.Johnson, N.Riewoldt, Petrie
EMG: Darling, Mzungu, Richardson
~$32,000 in the bank, but have the option open of doing Heppell > Pendlebury to raise the bank balance to ~$150,000 to afford a Smith > Sandilands straight swap before finals. As you can see, I would still have adequate bench cover in all positions even if I lose Heppell.
If all goes to plan, I can sense some exciting times ahead
How does it rate?

Yes, I’ve come to the conclusion that by trading Sandilands out, it allows for a stronger set of bench players, as you don’t have to trade down your best rookies, leaving me with 2 more than capable rookies in bac, mid, fwd. Ruck division is potentially weak until 211 returns, but having the Petrie-Tippett link gives it a bit of added strength for the WCE bye, whilst Smith has proved he can hit the ton more often than not in the past month.
Final word of advice, trade Sandilands > Vardy/Bailey, you can always bring him back in if required, but because of the Freo bye in R16, you’re going to have $554,000 wasting away on the bench for 5 weeks. This can be used elsewhere to bring an extra premium into your side a week earlier than otherwise. (ie. 1 this week, 2 the next). There is also the suspicion floating around that he may come back a little tentative as the injury can have lasting effects in some instances. As you can see from my team’s example above, it allows you to keep players like Heppell/Harris/Darling/Lower that you may have been thinking of cashing in for a rookie, who lets face it, the first year you bring in will have little job security based on the tiny pool of new kids available. I’d find it tough to find downgrade targets with good JS at the moment.
Cheers for the support guys

Nice team MJ. Couple of nice PODs in Priddis and Duffield that will make up ground for you if they fire. Pity you got Mzungu in your Fwds and not Mids as you’ve got no M/F DPP.
Like or Dislike:

I realise the lack of M/F DPP Deano, but hopefully having 2 in defence with Heppell & Jacobs on the bench, I’ll have enough flexibility. Darling & Mzungu should be adequate bench cover if a forward gets a short term injury anyway. I think that link is only necessary if you are limited for bench cover. If worst comes to worst I can always trade in Callinan to the mids bench when upgrading Sandi, which may be required anyway for a bit more cash. (with a bit of luck he could be on the bubble then)
My next two premiums to come in (Pavlich & Pendlebury) won’t stand me out from the crowd, that’s the only thing I’m worried about, because I’ll be relying on Priddis/Duffield/Hodge to produce big scores to differentiate from the other top sides and keep me moving up the rankings. But I guess you need to have the BEST players at the end of the day, not the most uniques.
Like or Dislike:

Deano, I’ve found a potential solution to the lack of M/F DPP. Instead of Tapscott > Pavlich, I can do Harris > Pavlich this week, then switch Pavlich into the forwards for Mzungu. It also saves an extra $40K in the bank.
Resulting mid/fwd benches would end up as:
MID: Heppell, Mzungu, Jacobs
FWD: Darling, Tapscott, Richardson
It basically means I have Tapscott as a bench keeper instead of Harris, which is arguably a weaker scenario, but means during the Sydney bye I can throw Goodes/ROK into the mids and have Darling & Heppell replace them, instead of Darling & Mzungu. During the Freo bye, it prevents Pavlich & Mzungu from being on the pine in the same line also.
Foolproof?

Good move I reckon MJ. The flexibility can be priceless and barring injuries you shouldn’t have to use your second or third bench players that often anyway.

Therefore if you want to maximise value wait until prior to Rd 15 to trade bucks for fisher. Newman, Delidio & Johncock good pick ups for this week. Cannot disagree with Knights to Pav!!!

My only problem with Pav is that I already have 3 freo players in my team Sandi, Lower, Mzungu so is it still worth tradeing him in ?

Or I could trade
Knights > PAV
Darling > Chappy
That will strengthen my FWD line up a bit right??

i wanna strengthen up the tail end of my backline. out of these two who do people think are the better option?
Hurn been smashing it of late but i cant tell if he just had poor form early or he is just having good form now.
Murphy has played pretty well all year, mainly 90+ with no massive games and only a few poor ones, but is prone to injury and i think has a bye the first week of finals.
Thumbs up – Hurn
Thumbs down – Murphy (WB)

Bob Murphy will have had his second bye before the SC finals.

So does Hurn. I had Hurn last year and loved his booming 70m kicks from defence. Long kicks to advantage are gold in Supercoach scoring, and Hurn just seems to score way higher in SC than DT. Historically one of the best SC:DT ratios going around.

Pendles will smash it this week with no Swan or Daisy. The Dees will probably revert back to Hr Hyde after their Dr Jekyll performance last week too.

Keep him, he’s considered a premium. Just because he’s in poor form doesn’t mean panic trading him out. Use the trades to upgrade rookies in your team who have less scoring potential. We know from the past Jacky Riewoldt can post massive scores (I remember a 217 against West Coast last year). He’s averaging 92, which is up there with the best forwards this year. Keep the faith.

If all you care about is league glory, you may as well sit tight and evaluate options, especially as there aren’t too many MUST buy premiums at bargain prices at the moment.

I am a little worried about bringing Howe into the forward line with the Rd 16 multi-bye. With Pav and Fyfe there as well I need to have one of either Alex Johnson or Isaac Smith playing to cover.
Wanted to hold onto Heppell too but I think Hibberd has shown enough with his pre-season and form so far to justify a D8 spot.

You could hold off on Howe only played 1 game price wont change yet
I’m going to wait one more week see if his JS is secure . Its very hard to judge a player after1 game but he does look ok
I did say no guts no glory or you snooze you lose
Then you could go with
Patience is a virtue .
Im not sure were these are coming from just popping into my head as i go must be time for a thursday evening ale

Leaves a solid team with great DPP flexibility to get you through the byes/injuries. You’re leaving the trades a little tight, but it’s worth the extra 4 you’re using to get GAJ and Fisher. Good luck. I’ll be interested to see how you fare on the Collingwood bye with Shaw, Swan, Pendles & Didak out. It’ll be a stretch.

Yep, that’s the other round that has been doing my head in. My score will take a dip but at the same time a lot of teams will have two or three of Swan, Pendles and Shaw. Hopefully between Mzungu, Jacobs, Hibberd & Stanley I can at least avoid a donut. Hibberd listed last on the bench today is very worrying though.

And Nahas isn’t inconsistent? He’s had scores of 48, 58, 25 & 70 this season. Hurley is back this week, if you’ve stuck with him this long, you may as well keep him now. As I said, you’re better off trading rookies into premiums, it’s proven to be the best SuperCoach strategy. You’ve got the cash in the bank, upgrade one of your on-field rookies, such as a Lower, Swallow, Liberatore, Curnow, Harris, Darling, Tapscott, Matera into a gun that will score you 100+ every week. Trust me mate, I’ve got the ranking to back up my strategy, 77th overall.

Is Silvia fit to play? I’d pick him if you were concentrating on your league. However he has a break even of 160 in Supercoach so wait a week or two after his price drops.
