Trade Talk – R17

Written by Motts on July 20 2015

Only 2 rounds before Finals start. Are you still trading like mad trying to force your way into the Top 8 of your league, coasting because you’re so far out in front or in the running for the overall prize and cannily snaffling bargains along the way?

  1. I don’t know what to do with my back line. I’m stuck with Smith, Lever, Hamling and Pearce, and none of them are making money fast enough to fix.

I have 9 trades left. Do I blow 3-4 trades trying to fill out my back line? Blow 2 and keep Smith, praying to god he comes good?

I also think I’m going to have to hold off on Ablett in the interest of saving trades. But Goldstein is my only solid captain choice since Fyfe has collapsed in a heap, so I think I might be giving up a lot of potential points there…

  2. Krakaur –> Rockliff and that’s all until finals.
Although I’m tempted to burn one of my trades on upgrading Hibberd to anyone, but that may wait until week 1 of the finals.

  3. This week I’m going:

Sloane to Ablett and Lever to Birchall.

This leaves me with 4 trades and a complete side of:

Def : Shaw, Houli, Picken, Newnes, Gibson, Birchall (B- Smith, Mckenzie)
Mid : Fyfe, Pendles, JPK, Neale, Treloar, Parker, Rockliff, Ablett (B- Lewis, Amon, Adamson)
Ruck : Goldy, NicNat (B- Cox)
Fwd : Gray, Martin, Dahlhaus, Swan, Smith, Mitchell (B- Steele, Daniel)

  4. Krakouer to b walsh (cheapest rookie mid)
Frees up cash to go shiel to ablett.
I end up with exactly 0 dollars.
T/U: do it, ablett is essential
T/D: He’s not worth the cost of two trades and 700k (leaves me with full team and 5 trades)

  5. Any word on beams shoulder?
He is pretty much the only way I can get to gaz this week with 2 trades due to his $600k price tag.

  6. I really shouldn’t be trading, but James Kelly and his 94.5 non-sub/testicle affected average at $340k is looking pretty, pretty good. Hopefully McKernan gets deservedly sacked so I can condone it.

  7. I’ve taken a few gambles that have paid off in recent weeks but it has left me with 2 trades remaining.

I’m unsure about where to go with my last trades or when to use them as I’m on the cusp of the finals and need to win my last 2 games in order to make it in.

    Here’s my team: ($141k bank)
Def – Shaw (GWS), McDonald, Murphy, Higgins, Laird, Gibson (A Pearce, Hamling)
Mids – Hannebery, Kennedy (Syd), Beams, Dangerfield, Thompson, Ablett, Ward, Montagna (Robinson, Glenn, Brophy)
    Ruck – Goldy, Maric (Cox)
Forw – Gray, Swan, Bontempelli, Mitchell, Gawn, Steele (Betts, Dale)

I really want to trade Eddie. He is one of my favourite players but I cannot see myself keeping him any longer than what I already have. He hasn’t scored above 90 since Round 7 and has only scored 75+ once in the last 7 games. He has Gold Coast next week and I’m not sure if I should keep him because he does generally score well against them.
If I trade Eddie, I’ll be bringing in Dahlhaus.

Maric on the other hand is getting worse for me. 14 games played and only 5 of those have been 100+ and one of those was against Goldy. I don’t know if I should trade him, but if I do, I would be bringing Gawn from the forws into Ruck and trading in Roughhead or maybe Cripps or Kennedy from WC.

Atm my projected score with Goldy as C is 2577.

Only really had a good look at the team of the guy i’m playing in R18 now. I might be able to win without making a trade…

His team currently looks like this:

Def – Shaw (GWS), K Kolodjashnij, Rance, Docherty, Houli, Brown (Coloquhoun, McKenzie)
Mids – Pendleburry, Fyfe, Rockliff, Dangerfield, Cripps, Ablett (C), Miller, Rich (Ellis-Yolmen, Boston, Lambert)
    Ruck – Naitanui, Blicavs (Wright)
Forw – Gray, Swan, Bontempelli, Mitchell, Hogan, Pavlich (Steele, Cox)

And in R16, I outscored him 2595 to 2371 and he doesn’t have Goldy but we both have Ablett.

I’m still tempted to go Betts for Dahlhaus but do I take the gamble on Maric against Sandi and hope he doesn’t drop in price?

Outlook for both guys (opp plyr in brackets):
Eddie – R17 GC (probably Day), R18 Syd (probably Rampe), R19 Rich (Rance or Houli), R20 Ess (probably Hurley)
Maric – R17 Freo (Sandi), R18 Hawks (McEvoy), R19 Adel (Jacobs), R20 GC (maybe Nicholls)

I still don’t know if its worth keeping or getting rid of either player for the finals…

  8. Looking forward to the Rookie review this week!
Knight, Kolodjashnij, Harmes, Fields.. While not great, still spoilt for choice at the moment.

Ablett comes in for Rich this week, but who do I downgrade?

Current Side, 11 trades $310,000 in the bank
DEF: Shaw, Higgins, Newnes, Hibberd, Hodge, Houli (Lever, Hamling)
MID: Fyfe, Pendlebury, Beams, Griffen, Dangerfield, Rich, JPK, Rockliff (McKenzie, Dumont, Steele)
    RUCK: Goldstein, Naitanui (Read)
FWD: Martin, Gray, Swan, Goddard, Bontempelli, Mitchell (Lonie, Lambert)

    T/U: Hamling
    T/D: McKenzie

  9. I’ve been waiting for 9-10 weeks now for BSmith to come good but my patience has run out. His spot, D6, is the last one to fill with Lever and Hamling on bench. Contemplating the following:

    BSmith-Hodge
    Lever-Fields

Getting Hodge seems a must but leaves me light on for DEF cover – Hamling and Fields. So maybe I should be keeping BSmith as cover (JS is good) and trading in Enright/Murphy/McDonald instead.

    T/U – BSmith-Hodge and Lever-Fields
    T/D – Lever-Enright/Murphy/McDonald and Hamling-Fields

  10. Four trades left, no money in the bank, certain to make finals and sick of Smith and his awful scores. Do I…

T/U Burn two trades to get rid of Smith for a McDonald type by downgrading Lever for a def rookie on the bubble or Goddard.
T/D Keep Smith, wear his crap scores, and save my four trades for finals

    Thanks!

  11. Hi all! Hope you all had a great SuperCoach weekend.

    Currently, how my team stands:

DEF: Shaw, Higgins, Hodge, Newnes, Smith, Lever (Hamling, Goddard)
MID: Fyfe, Pendles, Priddis, Danger, JPK, Deledio, Rockliff, GAJ (Krak, O’Brien, Lambert)
    RUC: Goldstein, NicNat (O’Brien)
FWD: Gray, Martin, Swan, Goddard, Franklin, TMitch (Steele, Dale)

Before any moves this week, 8 trades with 110k in the bank. Money making rookies are all ‘break in case of emergency’ when it comes to need for cash.

    My D5/D6 spots (BSmith/Lever) are the two final fixes I want to make to my team, so I propose the following two options;

    T/U:
    – Hold onto BSmith for one more week v GC and hope for a decent score and that he holds his price
    – Go Hamling+Lever to Malceski+random Fremantle rookie defender who won’t get a game to use as a Captaincy/defensive loophole since Fremantle play on Sundays after this coming round
    – This also leaves me with 180k, enough to upgrade BSmith if he isn’t up to scratch next round.
    – Was a poor week for defence last week, so there are many players on the way down.
    T/D:
    – BSmith has got to go
    – Hamling down to rookie Freo defender, BSmith up to a ~500k premo, wait on Lever to make more cash and find more cash elsewhere next week.

    Cheers everyone!

  12. The Trade Gun has been put back in the holster until the start of finals although I still need to upgrade a fwd but I’m not in the running for 50K but in a decent position in my main leagues

  13. After making 2037(18 player bye round), 2449 & 2504 I’ve dropped from 1093 to 1453. I want a top 1000 finish god damn it!! My planned trades are Boston & McGovern to a rookie, possibly Laverde for the link, and Hodge. I’m also planning on BSmith to Shaw the week after which will leave me with 3 trades for finals. Is three trades enough if you have a full premo team?

  14. Cripps > Ablett

    4 trades left 100k

Def: Rance, Higgins, Hodge, Newnes, Hibberd, Simpson (Lever, Mckenzie)

Mid: Fyfe, Pendlebury, Priddis, Dangerfield, J.Kennedy, Selwood, Lewis, Ablett (Steele, Maynard, Anderson)

    Rucks: Goldstein, Natanui

Fwd: Gray, Martin, Swan, Goddard, Franklin, Bontempelli (Daniel, Goddard)

Possibly upgrade Hibberd> to another premium defender, depending upon form and injuries and so on

  15. Getting real sick of BSmith. Ive had him from the beginning and was laughing after his 144 and 117, then BAM! Kept him but now going to loophole him after upgrading lever. Limited cash but who should be the loophole option:

T/U Malceski (plays the crows this week so no loophole)
T/D james Kelly (injured, but a little more consistent)

  16. Gotta get Gaz this week. I went for Hodge last week instead thinking he would go up in price more which i think he did(just), but missed out on the monster score from Gaz. Finding $700000 is going to take some work but going into final’s without him would feel like that dream where you forget to wear pants.

  17. Hi guys, would like some advice:

Team is attached as a link in my username.

What would be the best thing to do this week since I only have 5 trades remaining and not a lot of $$$, and in 4 out of my 5 leagues I’m still holding top 4 spots (6th in the 1 league).

T/U – Grab Gaz in anyway you can (will effectively require 2 trades which would put me down to 3 prior to Rd 17)
T/D – Complete my backline (1 more spot to fill with Lever/Hamling/Maynard playing D6 last few weeks), and ditto number of trades left with option above, but team will be full premo pretty much.

Comment if you think I should reconsider making trades this week and hold off this week.

    My league lines read:

    11-0-4 (2nd)
    10-0-5 (6th)
    12-0-3 (3rd)
    13-0-2 (1st)
    13-0-2 (1st)

    Cheers guys ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. Hi SCT Peeps!
With a cut-throat league match this round, I want Ablett and I want him now!
Unfortunately, I am bloody 1.8k off CEY – basement and Cripps – Ablett. Fair to say I’m not very happy.

What’s the best option for me here? Got 6 trades and 16k in bank. Here’s my team:

Shaw, Hodge, T-mac, Newnes, Enright, Simpson (Pearce, Hamling)
Fyfe, Pendlebury, Beams, JPK, Parker, Rockliff, Cripps, CEY (Krakouer, Steele, Adamson)
    Goldy, Maric (Downie)
Gray, Dusty, Dahlhaus, Deledio, Goddard, Swan (Lambert, Read)

T/U: Downgrade CEY and upgrade Cripps/Krak to a Premo (e.g. Danger)

T/D: Downgrade CEY and get Ablett next week

    Or Comment for other alternatives?
    Thanks in advance!

  19. Hey guys just need some advice here,
    Team currently consists of;

    DEF: Houli Rance Hodge
    Burgoyne McGovern Higgins (Edwards Lever)

    MID: Fyfe Mundy Neale Dangerfield
Pendles Wines JPK Blicavs (D.Robinson Maynard Cockatoo)

    RUCK: Godstein Natanui (Read)

    FWD: Martin Franklin Gray
    Swan Bont Steele (Daniel, O’Brien)

With 6 Trades left and 50k in the bank
I was thinking I want to get GAblett in so I could downgrade McGovern to Fields and play Lever as my D6 and upgrade maybe a Neale or Wines to Ablett.

OR I could finish either my DEF or FWD line by downgrading Lever to Fields and upgrade McGovern to a TMac or Picken, or via Maynard and Steele DPP get a Goddard, Dahlhaus.

So T/U for Upgrade Wines/Neale for GAJ
T/D for McGovern to finish FWD/DEF

  20. Hey all,
Long time reader, first time poster.
I am a bit stuck for this week and the coming weeks with what to do with my side. I have 12 trades left so I can use 2 each week and have no concerns. I also have $244,400 in the kitty.

    My team currently looks like:
Def: Shaw (GWS), McDonald, Saad, B Smith, Lever, H Goddard, Maynard, Long
Mid: Fyfe, Pendlebury, Hannebery, D Beams, Treloar, Wines, Sloane, Rockliff, Steele, McKenzie, Smith (Carl)
    Ruck: Goldstein, Maric, Read
Forward: Gray, Martin, Mitchell, Bontempelli, Dahlhaus, Swan, Daniel (WB), Lamb

I was thinking of going Sloane -> Gaz this week (which would leave me with about $24,000 to use on another trade, I am not sure that is the best thing to be doing for my side going into finals. And thats where I get stuck for trades this week and the upcoming weeks. I know my backline needs work but I have left it to fix up last so I can get the inform players. Realistically, I have 4 spots I need to fix in defence and plenty of trades to be able to do it.
Any advice on trades this week and the upcoming weeks would be awesome and would be eternally thankful for any help given.

  21. I traded in Gray for Cripps last week thinking I’ll play it smart and bring in the little master this week once Lewis had gone up a bit in value but alas spud Lewis only went up $18K whilst Ablett goes up $30K – doh!!

I have just enough cash to still make the trade, but with only 3 trades remaining, just not sure if worth it.

  22. Clancee Pearce –> Hodge for me this week

3 trades and 2 grand left.

I almost want to go James Kelly instead though… would net me about 240k in the bank!

  23. I’ve got about $50k in the bank, 8 trades left.

DEF: Hodge, Newnes, Hibberd, Birchall, Smith, Higgins (Saad, Pearce)

MID: Ablett, Fyfe, Pendlebury, Hannebery, Kennedy, Wines, Rockliff, Cripps (Steele, Maynard, McKenzie)

    RUC: Goldstein, Naitanui (Cox)

FWD: Gray, Martin, Mitchell, Swan, Gawn, McGovern (Krakouer, Lambert)

    —-

    Basically, here is the situation:

    I want to keep McGovern

Reportedly, Adam Saad will not play against Adelaide; but should be back next week. I would have liked to have Saad as bench cover, but I think my team is pretty good in that regard. If Hugh Goddard plays well, I reckon I’ll get on him in a week’s time too.

So with the assumption that Saad won’t play (and even if he does), should I go Saad – BJ Goddard?

Thumbs up – Go for it, good trade
Thumbs down – There are better options

  24. Which underperforming mid should I cull for the great man himself?

    T/U – Griffen
    T/D – Selwood

Leaning towards Selwood as Griffen has been a bit less spuddish in the past 5 games

  25. Gents,

Need to trade saad this week but have got no cash in the bank with 5 trades left.

Which of these would you choose?

    TU Birchall

    TD Malceski + $50k

    Comment J.Kelly + $50k

  26. Thinking, my midfield is currently complete with Blicavs in it. My Fwd and Def are not. By trading natanui out and dpping Blicavs in with Goldstein, I free up enough cash to finish my def (TMac) and fwd (Dahl/Bartel). BUT I’ll have J Steele as my M8 with 4 trades left and 40k in the bank.

    TU – Do it
    TD – Stupid

  27. Need some advice Supercoachers.
Midfield : Fyfe, Pendles, Danger, Kennedy, Wines, Selwood, Lewis, Steele. (Mckenzie, Amon, Krak)
Can bring GAZ in by trading out Selwood and Mckenzie, still leaves a spot to fill in the mids.
Or I can bring Rocky in by trading Krak and Mckenzie, leaving a complete midfield
    Defence and forward is set.
    Have 4 trades.
    T/U GAZ
    T/D Rocky
