Back into the thick of league competition this week. Hawks have the bye, Ablett questionable, plenty of players not pulling their weight… Who are you thinking of trading out and in?

Anyone notice that izzy falou is kicking 4-5 goals most weeks?

I know you can only beat the opposition on the park but did anyone notice who the opposition was last week? It was the Brisbane Lions reserves who are rock bottom stone cold motherless last in the Northern Divison of the NEAFL. Stick him in the SANFL or VFL and see how many goals he gets, let alone the AFL.

Watched him last week up against NT Thunder and was Ok. Good on the lead and in the air, but very poor when the ball is at ground level. Looked lost. Still also twice the size of anyone in the Giants team. Worked hard around the ground and didnt cramp up like our friend Karmichael.
A couple of other kids to keep your eye on form the Giants:
Jeremy Cameron – Took a couple of great contested marks, looks a key position prospect in years to come.
Sam Shulz – Threw himself into every contest, always looking for the hard ball.
Kurt Aylett – Played out of the backline and often entrusted with the kick-outs. Nice long, direct kick on him.
A few other to impress were Gerald Ugle, Curtly Hampton and Sam Darley. Will be interesting to see how they all progress, especially with a few bigger bodies around them next year.

Hey Sainter, Shaun did play. Didnt see too much of him but I know he is highly regarded in the territory. NT Thunder was upset to lose him to GWS so he’s obvioulsy got a future. I think he’s only 17, not sure where that leaves him in terms of the draft or status with the Giants.
Like the suns, they’ve certainly got some talent there, just whether they can be competitive against bigger, experienced bodies.

Ratten out and I am a swans man. Worst coach I have witnessed. Bower in the forward line and Henderson on Barry?? Wow. As I am the supercoach of my team, Jack R is on the block with question mark also on Rawlings

he coached pretty well against the swannies….twice….
Doggies played awesome, and blues were pretty average. FWD line completely broke down. Loosing Waite again didnt help! Henderson was playing back on barry cause week before he played down there on JROO and did well….not that the ball went down there that much in that game! Walker and waite, gartlett and eddie have been killing it some games and then others its like there not even there! horrible effort.
Just hope we can pull ourselves together for this weekend! huge game for us

Henderson did a fair job on J-Roo last week so you can understand Ratten’s confidence in him on BBB but Bower was played out of position and I can’t fathom it.
The Blues are a little hamstrung with injuries at the moment after sailing through the first half of the season pretty much unscathed.
I reckon its going to get ugly this week…

Bower is completely outa form at the moment as well. And think Ratten not sure where to play him. But we need him back to his best, and down back!
Huge game this week and we have a hard run home Mottsy

Warnock and Kruezer were dreadful also….especially Warnock. Hudson just kept grabbing it out of the ruck and doing what he wants with it.
We have noone that can take overhead marks especially in our forward 50.
Forward press non existant
Hendo should have been tried at some stage in the fwd line. He tried Bower and Thornton there.
It was another statement game that we failed in IMO.
I agree Motts next week could get ugly. We did this last year start well and have a dreadful second half to the season but surely we are playing better football this year.
Lets see how it all unfolds

This weekend is gonna hurt. Have a few hawks players, Suckling, Hodge, Franklin and Smith. And with GAJ out as well, thats a lot of holes i have to fill! Will keep GAJ if its only a few weeks. But not sure what ill do if he’s out more than 4….
JROO has to go but not sure if it will be this week.

Fair job on J Roo? That’s the most goals he has kick in about 12 rounds surely? He pretty much kicked tigers score while being out of form. I’m just shitty because I have tickets this week. Wanted a bigger build up. I also think hampson is better ruck option because he can mark in the fwd line. I just don’t get ratten at all. Bower in the fwd line is crazy.

No matter how long ablett is out for, I’m not trading him. Even if it’s 4 weeks, I’d rather them be cautious and him be fully fit for our finals, than him try to get back too soon and re injure himself.
Mind you if it’s anymore than 6 he’s gone!
Looks like only a few, but we will have to wait and see!

GC SUNS are hopeful Gary Ablett will be available to play against Richmond on Saturday in Cairns. Scans this afternoon cleared Ablett of any structural damage to the knee he injured during the first quarter of Saturday night’s match against the Sydney Swans at Metricon Stadium.

I’m very happy to welcome back Joel Selwood back into my team this week (from off the bench). As they say in racing parlons he’ll be “champing at the bit” to rip out a huge score. Plenty of trades to use, but Bartel has a finals bye. If you don’t already have them, better options would be Swan, Pendles, Hodge, Ablett (now that he’s ok – wait till teams tho) or Priddis (awesome last five rounds of the season). Rawlings to Shaw is a good move tho.

Thanks Bender.
I have all of them except Priddis and Pendles. Pendles probably to expensive for me right now, and Priddis could be an option when I upgrade Swallow/Mzungu before finals. Bartel does miss the 2nd week of finals, but he is incredibly cheap and I’m on top of all my leagues. Also, Geelong have a great road apart from the bye and Collingwood R24 so it’s very tempting.

If there’s no pressure then theres no hurry to trade out Cross just yet. Especially sideways since Bartel this year is barely prem, let alone ultra prem.
Just improve team elsewhere. Or go the full way to Pendles (mb just before dogs bye and just after his 160 drops out of price)

Cross is really frustrating me this year, well more like Rocket Eade. His new tagging role has restricted him from getting those consistent 100+ scores we know he’s capable of. Bartel is a 450k+ player and when Joelwood comes back I think the Geelong midfield will be up and running again. Thanks A.

Yep. SCT will get a little less traffic this coming few weeks. Might be worth bringing up some strategy or ‘Next year’s team’ posts to keep things interesting!
Eg. What are the tough decisions in Supercoach that separate the men from the boys?
1. Is this premium with a great record just a little off the boil or has he dropped off this year? eg. Chapman, Didak, half the Saints’ team.
2. Is this guy with no history but who is killing at the moment going to keep it up this year? Eg Mundy and Fyfe.
3. Rookie selection – is this kid going to get a game? Score well?
Any others? What do you guys think?

Well, the one thing I think we have all established after this year is don’t buy up too many rookies. (GC Suns)
I think a lot of us bought a bunch expecting them to be great but only a handful lived up to expectation.
Not going to make the same mistake with GWS..

I reckon Guns and Rookies has well and truly paid off for most people this year, and I think my rookies this year have been better than my rookies last year overall, including the Suns players.
Jury will be out on some of this year’s big strategy questions until finals are over though. eg – Was it better to avoid finals-bye players altogether or have them in the team and save extra trades for finals.
Like or Dislike:

GnR strategy definitely would have paid off this year. I think that it wont as much next year however if they revert to having only 2 bench players. It was a luxury this year to have so many rookies on your bench slowly gaining cash to upgrade. It was a lot easier this year to gain a team of ‘premiums’ as we could carry low-scoring rookies on the bench for longer. With less bench spots available next year with the abolishing of the bye, mid-price options will be crucial.
Wait and see though i guess…

Hurley > Petrie (DPP FOR/RUC)
This gets rid of one of your Essendon (R24 risk) players and covers your rucks in case Smith/Cox are out. You can then swap Petrie with J Tippet in/out of the forward line.
Sandi > Ruck Muppet
With the ruck cover above, you can ditch Sandilands and rely on the Cox/Smith/Petrie combo. You can go to a cheap (91K) R4 and maximise your cash. Of course, you could also down grade Smith and use Petrie at R2 until Sandi comes back.
Knights > O’Keefe (nice trade)
Hibberd > Hodge (wait until after Hawks bye Rd 18)
Rioli – wait and see (if you go Petrie above this gives you another forward. Rioli could be worth holding onto especially with the hawks easy run home).
If you have 7 trades now, you’ve suggested 4 trades above, that leaves you with 3 for finals, just sayin’.

Omen, awesome reply so thanks mate.
I have tossed around the petrie idea, but his first final being out and his meesley 32 has scared me a little. On the other hand tho, was against the mighty pies and could be a good move in a few weeks as should be nice and cheap.
If thats the case, will prob move sandi on and pocket the coin, then can afford to buy the other players.
O’Keefe will def bring in. Sooo many great consistent scores!
Sounds as tho keeping Rioli and waiting will save a trade, so good idea. Hibberd to Hodge will be the biggy, and hopefully will be the difference.
And yes, I now realise that would leave me with 3 left. Tho if I keep Rioli, that will save a Trade and hopefully he will find some form!
Cheers for your help. Much appreciated!

How much cash?
JRoo is injured and probably should go perhaps for a Pavlich/O’Keefe upgrade. Or at least that’s what I’m thinking going into the finals.
Sit tight on Adcock as he’ll probably come good soon. Unless there’s a Fisher or a Deledio that you haven’t gotten yet.
Boak is also worth keeping until the eve of the finals where you can freely move in one of the above, Boyd, Deledio or any elite midfielder from the Pies. I’m personally waiting for Round 21 to make that trade injuries permitting.

I know Blease got bugger all in his first game but he did come on late as the sub, so with 8 trades left I’m thinking:
Isaac Smith > Blease
D Swallow > Nick Dal Santo
Will still have Mzungu and Jacobs as bench cover in the middle.

I know I get the extra 20K with Callinan and a DPP. Just worried at his age and a couple of injuries this year whether he’ll get back in. Prefer to have someone playing than not.
Callinan probably the right call though…

Will be interesting to see how NDS goes this week with a heavy tag from Scotty Selwood.
Most teams haven’t paid him too much attention this year with the Saints’ form and he has stunk it up bad in the past when tagged.

IMO don’t go blease. As much as I love him he won’t get a regular gig. He needs more time to develop his efficiency. I’d go callinan, he is in the best 22 moreso than what blease is.

Plenty of good options for that price.
Gilbert has come good recently, Gibson has a favourable draw, Duffield is always a good option. If you are willing to wait a week you may be able to snaffle Hurn for around 400K.

No certainly not full of champs, sorry was thinking out loud I suppose. Not unsatisfied with Chappy, but want him out before finals (him, Gibbs & Judd though I am considering just benching Judd, I don’t want to let him go. Could cost me though).
115, 300 in the kitty. 6 trades left, the ones I’d like to upgrade are out of the following: Darling, Pederson, AKrak (he’s been fairly consistant, though, no?). Or possibly downgrading Conca or Libba as my mids are fairly set. Decisions, decisions!

I would be waiting till right at the end. Say u trade Shaw in and he gets injured in the mean time you waste a couple trades. Gibbs is going alright, Chapman and Judd also, so just keep them till close to the end and get the premiums that are flying at that time.
Another option is keep Judd and Chapman and get a M/F premium that sits on the bench and he can cover them during the bye, such as Fyfe or Sylvia ect. That saves a trade as well. Then you only need to trade Gibbs.

Just checked out bartel,s price and jeez he,s cheap and he,s not going to be this cheap again ($348,800) , with a breakeven of 46 against brisbane this week . Bartel has a nice average of 98.93 and some recent form , he could be a handy 7th mid and with doubts over ablett this week he could be handy pick up to fill the holes in the comming weeks . The only down side is the round 22 bye , but hey it might be worth it as bench cover .

Since this year has been so stressful with the byes and all and i have just had a terrible week i have started to think about next year. I will write all my thoughts out to help others and myself: I will sort this out in sections.
Discounted Premiums for 2012:
Goddard-Will probably be discounted due to a offish season
Jack- Will be discounted due to an injury bombed 2011 and is only going to improve
Nick and Jack Reiwoldt- Nick has had a horror season so far and Jack has just a very long cold patch.
Hayes- Hardly played this year and might be cheaper than he normally is
Montagna- Up and Down season so far so will hopefully be back to his excellent best next year.
Malceski- Injury savaged 2011 and hasnt been in great form so will defiantly be discounted next year.
Adcock- Anyone going to dare to go near him again? I know i wont be
Brown- We all know when he is at his best he is a scoring machine, but will he get back to his magnificent best?
Mundy- Great start to year but got injured and will be discounted next
year
Brian Lake- Horror season could he get back to his best?
Barlow- THE SC GOD! Next year he should hit his straps like 2010!
Jobe Watson- Started the season on fire but i do not think he will finish of the season in that style.
Sandi- Dont need to explain do I?
Connors, Gilbert and Grimes
The young guns who will improve in 2012:
Pendlebury- Gun who will only improve in this great Collingwood side.
Martin- Great second year and should only improve. But he might have peaked early? I am not sure.
Fyfe- One word GUN! Needless to say more!
Murphy- Great 2011 and might avoid hard tag that will go to Judd
Gibbs- hopefully next year is the year which he wont tag and start playing a permanent Midfield role.
Others would be Selwood, Griffen, Rioli, Hodge, thomas, Wells, Rockliff and Cotchin
The previous guns who might have their numbers decline in 2012:
Pavlich
Boomer
Chapman
Corey
O’keefe
Goodes
Didak
Bolton
AND NOW THE MUST HAVES!
Ablett
Swan
Goddard
Selwood
and the players on the ‘never touch again list’
ADCOCK, GRIMES AND HIGGINS
Im sure lots will still pick em next year!
I have probably missed some so feel free to add to the list. I hope you guys are not thinking about next year yet and i hope some of you are still a chance for the overall this year! Good luck and i hope this was a good read and gave you some insight to who to pick next year. I will personally go the durable guns and rookie strategy next year because im sick of my players getting injured!
Cheers

okay well seeing as no one liked my trade options:P……… I have a heap of trades remaining and I really need to get rid of Darling and Milburn( bought him as a premium:P). This is my forward line:
Fyfe, Goodes, Petrie, Nroo, Rioli, Darling, Mzungu, Richardson, McKernan and Skinner
I know everyone would be saying get ROK but everyone in my league has him so I was thinking maybe someone else…….
My defense is:
Deledio
Like or Dislike:

Getting ROK is a good defensive trade if you think he will continue to be one of the highest scoring forwards in the league.
Generally, eliminating bad POD’s is as important as creating good ones. At the end of the day, what you really want is to have is the highest scoring players in the league, no matter who they are and who else has them.
Same rationale applied to picking up Ablett mid season – you just couldn’t not have him, the bad POD killed you.

Sorry bout that my defence is:
Deledio, Suckling, Adcock, Heppell, Lower, Pederson, Jacobs, Milburn, Golby and McGovern. As you can see a very weak defence which is full of medium priced rookies who must be upgraded! So I’m starting with Milnurn but I want to stay away from Fisher and Goddard…..so who else?

Next year I am avoiding key position forwards. They are too unpredictable, don’t pick up enough of the ball to cover them on a day when they don’t take bags of marks or kick bags of goals.

I am reluctant to spend one of my 5 remaining trades on JRoo.
If he is injured, I guess i’ll trade him, but if not, then surely getting rid of him is selling low and he can only have upside? It’s not like he’s a flash in the pan, Coleman medal is nothing to sneeze at.
Having said that, I do have Rioli on the bench as well as a few underperformers.
And maybe like his cousin his form is not only of his making but also a result of the press having changed the flow of the ball into the forward line.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Comments, Brune.

Motts, looking back at your post a few weeks ago (I think it was you) asking about the differences between “league win” and “overall score” strategies, this week has been a classic illustration.
My bench included Rioli (who I didn’t trade out in part because of the non-league round) and Pav, Jamar, Mzungu, Thompson, Sylvia, Broughton and Lower (all of whom were selected for my team with their non-league byes in mind).
Didn’t have any 0′s but only scored 1890.
Ranking dropped from 6652 to 9150. Same thing happened in round 6 except that time I dropped 5000 places.
But I didn’t lose a game!

Has anyone info or thought on whether Leigh Montagna is fully over his knee problem which he picked up against the pies in Rnd 12? At 380K and likely to average 100 from here on in (if fully fit) then i’m thinking he would be a great pick up as an underpriced prem who should come good + play all SC finals games. If you hold off on Sam Fisher for 1 if not 2 more weeks then you will get him 30 to 50K cheaper due to his shocker last weekend. If you are sitting pretty in league let destiny take it’s course and see if Duigan, Lower or Puopolo get injured, suspended, lose form etc prior to picking up Fisher prior to Round 20. If you had to trade now then Duigan out because of his Rnd 23 bye.

My team at best:
Defenders –
S.Fisher, B.Gibbs, B.Goddard, H.Shaw, S.Hurn, G.Broughton, M.Hurley (C.PEDERSON, P.Puopolo, A.Johnson)
Midfielders -
S.Pendlebury, M.Boyd, M.Priddis, G.Ablett, S.Thompson, D.Swan (A.DIDAK, D.Harris, B.Jacobs)
Rucks -
D.Cox, Z.Smith (J.Tippett, M.Curnow)
Forwards –
M.Pavlich, R.O’keefe, N.Fyfe, L.Franklin, C.Sylvia, D.Petrie, C.Rioli (T.MZUNGU, T.Lynch, C.Richardson)
4 Trades, $188,700
This is my plan:
Round 18 – T.Lynch —> D.Talia (to swap with Hurley and A.Johnson in backline) – leaves me with about $300,000
Round 21 – P.Puopolo —> B.Deledio (completes backline with Hurley on bench) – leaves me with about $210,000
– T.Mzungu —> A.Goodes (will be my bench player to cover for Petrie in bye) – leaves me with about $80,000
Round 22, 23 or 24 use $80,000 whenever and wherever I want. Might upgrade Zac Smith, but I will see.
Leaves me with a team of:
Defenders –
S.Fisher, B.Gibbs, B.Goddard, H.Shaw, S.Hurn, G.Broughton, B.Deledio(M.HURLEY, C.Pederson, A.Johnson)
Midfielders -
S.Pendlebury, M.Boyd, M.Priddis, G.Ablett, S.Thompson, D.Swan (A.DIDAK, D.Harris, B.Jacobs)
Rucks -
D.Cox, Z.Smith (J.Tippett, M.Curnow)
Forwards –
M.Pavlich, R.O’keefe, N.Fyfe, L.Franklin, C.Sylvia, D.Petrie, C.Rioli (A.GOODES, D.Talia, C.Richardson)
Good trades – Thumbs up

Ollie I like your forward thinking, but one thing that Supercoach has taught me throughout the years is that plans come unstuck. Injuries and form are the main culprits of this. Of course everybody has to think ahead a bit, but (to use a classic footy cliche) just take it one week at a time and see what each round deals up to you.
I was about to get fisher this week and was confident of winning my league game, but with fisher’s low score I’ll now hold fire and if GAJ doesn’t play I may have a tougher task on my hands than I first thought.

You should be right, if any of your premium ruckmen get injured, you will trade them out anyways, right?
Plus, most people use their emergencies in D, M and F

My forward lines is Fyfe, Goodes, Petrie, Nroo, Rioli, Darling, Prestia, McKernan, Richardson, Skinner….. As I said I’m getting rid of Darling for either ROK, Pavlich, Franklin or any other suggestions?

I’d probably say Pavlich, he’s just ultra consistent
Although, Franklin at his price looks pretty attractive.. Probably won’t see him much cheaper this year
How many trades do you have left?

Thinking of a Darling upgrade.
Current fwds (including a couple in the mids) are:
Pavlich, Franklin, O’Keefe, Petrie, N Riewoldt, Krakouer, Dangerfield, Prestia, Smith, Mzungu, Darling, Matera
Question is who should i target in my Darling upgrade?? Have $243,800 already in kitty so sky’s the limit.
Fyfe, Goodes, Watts, Davis all spring to mind. Thoughts??????

Why??
His last six scores read: 47, 75, 42, 53, 56, 33
His BE is 84
He’s playing a rejuvenated Saints team at Etihad
Please explain why Yiorgakis

ahhhhhh ……… thinking a Z Smith >> D Jolly trade while he’s still cheap and going Darling >> Goodes
Thumbs up: yes
Thumbs down: Jolly’s too big a risk
Hot debate. What do you think?

Yes, SCT’s auditor
is on the money. The Phat Side awaits. Fyfe and Neon would be my picks. Goodes has been handy but is prone to the odd sub 60 score, whilst I wouldn’t trust Watts. Good luck!

I have to admit, Darling is worrying me, I had always planned to keep him. I thought he’d maybe be less likely than other rookies to drop off towards the end of the season as he’s already a pretty big and strong bloke.
I only have 5 trades and I am trying not to use them unless I get key injuries.
Do you think there’s any chance he’ll come good in finals, given their good draw?

Me too Mike. But with only 3 trades left, I’ve resigned to keeping him as an F10. Hopefully won’t need to use him.

Poblem for me is he is probably F8 and will be first onto the field in the case of injuries! And he is getting a game while Sizzle sits on my bench. I will definitely win 2 of the next 3 though so probably will hold onto him and hope for the best!

Can you afford Pavlich,Franklin or Ryan O Keefe there the best forwards options and Fyfe if you can afford Pavlich go for him but out of the ones you mentioned if they are the only good options you can afford go Fyfe or Goodes.

Daniel – i currently have $243,800 in the bank so i can get anyone and still probably have some coin in my pocket. Already have Pav, Buddy and RO’K. That’s why i mentioned Fyfe and Goodes. Freo’s run home is scary and i’m worried about Freo’s scoring potential (and i already have Broughton, Pav and Tendai).

Maybe T Cloke or C Syliva and maybe if you don’t have Hale he is a DPP maybe to make even more money to upgrade a rookie or someone do a absolute superstar and maybe use Hale as a DPP in the ruck, but my suggestions would be to go with Fyfe or Goodes.

Cloke’s probably the #1 option at the moment but his price is a bit rich for my liking and would stop me from swapping Smith for Jolly at R2 which is an area i want to strengthen my team.

Other about Cloke is that even though he is looking really dangerous, Collingwood have so many routes to goal and still don’t rely on him as much as you’d like or expect, so he still gets some crap scores (although not recently). I’d still be going for M/F players as much as possible.

Is there any value in getting a mid-range fwd at this stage of the season (Lecras, Higgins or Brown) or should i be aiming at nothing but the best in O’Keefe and Pavlich?

Depends on a lot of things like how complete your team is and how many trades you have left. You would probably only do that if you were desperate for wins and had no other options or if you have so few trades and cash left that getting a premium is not going to be possible

Hey everyone…
This is how my team stands at the moment:
DEF: Gibbs, Shaw, Goddard, Duigan, Heppel, Hibberd, Batchelor (Suckling, Lower, Coad)
MID: Swan, Pendlebury, Kennedy (SYD), Deledio, Van Berlo, Swallow (Hodge, Curnow, Harris)
RUCK: Jolly, Jamar (Petrie)
FWD: Pavlich, O’Keefe, Watts, Kennedy(WC), Darling, Matera, Dahlhaus (Franklin, Smith, Schneider)
Needing to boost my forward line, thinking of trading out Darling??? If i trade him will have $323,000 to spend… Any ideas??

Thumbs down: Fyfe

My fwds This week are are pav, fyfe, goodes, Stevie j, Petrie, darling, lynch (buddy, Dawes and Richardson on bench). Should I single trade riewoldt in for Dawes, or double trade…. Lynch + Dawes for talia and ROK?
that would leave me with pav, fyfe, ROK, goodes, Stevie j, buddy & Petrie at full strength.
I guess the Q is ROK worth burning 2 trades for, or go with riewoldt in a single trade?
Any other suggestions welcome!

Did a double trade:
Z Smith >> Jolly
Darling >> Goodes
It’s a bit of a punt with Jolly but confident in his upside.
Thank you to Zac and Jack for your work this season. Appreciate it. Especially you Zac.
