Trade Talk – R17

Written by Motts on July 10 2016

I’m guessing two names are going to feature heavily in the OUT column this week.

But who is going to feature in the IN column?

    1. And Libba as well! just to mess with the whole (son of) God damn system, so much for saving trades for finals!!!

    1. 5 trades left 49k spare cash
      Ablett out for
T/U Neale (make an extra 10k)
      T/D Callan Ward (make 100k)

      Any other suggestions please REPLY!

Defenders- Shaw, Laird, Docherty, Simpson,Rance,Boyd,(Collings, B.Williams)
Mids-Danger, Pendles, Hannebery, Ablett, Treloar ,Libba, Shiel, Jansen (Hopper ,Phillips ,Trengove)
      Rucks- Goldstein Gawn (Grimley)
Forwards- Dusty Merrett Zorko Wells Deledio Silvagni (Petracca, Redman)

      1

  1. Hanners, Parker, JPK, Steven, Ward, Priddis and Gray all under 550k and ave 104 or better. Shouldn’t be too hard to replace either. They both might only miss a couple though so for those real low on trades I’d hold…

    6

    2
  2. If Libba & Ablett out for 2 or more weeks, they’ll be gone for me. In prob Parker & Hanners. Will mean I dont have Sloane tho and Duncan will be my mid9.

I’ll still need a fwd & def to fill my them and really wanted to burn Collins & Menadue this week.

So if Libba plays, I’ll do something like Ablett & Collins for Hanners & a back premmo

    1. Jarv – I reckon you should think about holding Collins for at least another week.

He has a BE of – 7, so even if he scores another 60 odd, he will increase in price by around $29,500.

Not sure what Menadues current price and break even is, but can you go:

Ablett (if out for a few weeks) and Menadue – Hanners and Parker

      4

      0
  3. If both are out for only 2 I’ll be trading Ablett and holding Libba. If I had more trades I’d trade both but will hold Libba if I must. My theory is that if it’s Ablett shoulder I just don’t trust that he will be 100% or commit 100%.

    13

    1
  4. Dion Prestia as a sneaky POD? Has gone 120+ in the last two and could benefit from Ablett’s absence. Only 473k so not a huge jump over Libba.

    11

    3
    1. You’d basically be sideways-ing to another almost-premo. Waste of a trade, Prestia has a similar output to Libba. Either keep Libba or upgrade to someone who is averaging 110+

      2

      0
  5. Ablett and Birchall out,
    Hanners and Laird in.

Scored 2324 and only went up 12 spots to 350 after having slipped throughout the byes. Full premo with only two trades remaining. These are gonna be a tense few weeks.

    8

    4
      1. Not at all. But full premo is full premo and I’ll surely fall behind in overall standings if I don’t take a punt!

        0

        1
  6. I was going to trade Libba this week anyway, and even if GAJ comes back I don’t expect him to be anywhere near 100%.
    Liberatore to Bontempelli
Ablett to either Hannebery or JPK (going to toss a coin I think)
Leaves me with 100K and 4 trades.

    3

    3
  7. I have 5 trades left and was already planning on trading either libba or wines to Hanners so not fussed about moving Libba on.
Herald Sun reporting today that ablett will be out from 2-4 weeks depending on scan results. I have hall as bench cover for fwd/mids (pending wells and barlow coming back this week)
is it worth holding ablett for now and saving 4 trades for finals?

T/U yes save the trade and use hall as M8
T/D trade ablett, 3 trades is enough if I am full premo with hall as m9/F7

    1

    16
  8. Luke Hodge a cheapie to replace Libba @ $466k. Worth a punt if he’s your M9? reasonable run home after this week.

    5

    9
  9. Libba and GOD out, thinking of picking up Neale and Gray.

T/U – Winner winner chicken dinner!
    T/D – Jog on mate.

    14

    5
  10. Current team is:
Def: Shaw, Docherty, Simpson, Laird, Bartel, Boyd, Collins, Lee.
Mids: Dangerfield, Ablett, Hannebery, Pendlebury, Parker, Priddis, Gray, Shiel, Jansen, Trengove, Beech.
    Rucks: Gawn, Goldstein, Wyatt.
Fwds: Barlow, Zorko, Deledio, Hall, N Riewoldt, Montagna, Phillips, Silvangi.
Currently ranked 354, 2 trades left and 73,200 remaining salary.

TU: Ablett to Lycett which will involve Barlow moving to M8 and Lycett F6. The 250,000 remaining will be used to upgrade Jansen later in the year to a premium mid/fwd such as D Martin/Z Merrett moving Lycett to F7/R3 or mid premium such as Selwood/Steven/Bontempelli which will involve moving Barlow back to the forward line and Lycett to F7/R3.

TD: Hold Ablett and play Jansen until he returns.

Comment- Ablett to Bontempelli/Steven but it means I will not be able to get Lycett as fwd/ruck cover with my last trade instead having to get S Motlop later on in the year.

    5

    2
    1. Probably cooked if only 2 trades left but I think have to go with Lycett option if it gives Ruck cover as well – also pray that FURL gives Barlow a gig.

      0

      0
  11. 5 trades left 49k spare cash
    Ablett out for
T/U Neale (make an extra 10k)
    T/D Callan Ward (make 100k)

    Any other suggestions please REPLY!

Defenders- Shaw, Laird, Docherty, Simpson,Rance,Boyd,(Collins, B.Williams)
Mids-Danger, Pendles, Hannebery, Ablett, Treloar ,Libba, Shiel, Jansen (Hopper,Phillips,Trengove)
    Rucks- Goldstein, Gawn (Grimley)
Forwards- Dusty, Merrett, Zorko, Wells, Deledio, Silvagni (Petracca, Redman)

    2

    1
  12. Which is the better combination of players to be brought in between now and the end of the season
TU: Lycett and any fwd or mid premium under 550,000, cover for every line.
TD: Bontempelli and S Motlop, cover on every line except for the rucks.

    1

    2
  13. For the Ablett trade is Pendlebury going to average more over the likes of Parker, Priddis, Ward etc to warrant the extra spend or am I better off banking the extra money.
Have 6 trades, 60K and one premium spot to fill, Davis currently M8. Want to have full team and 3 or 4 trades going into finals to cover the next Ablett type scenario.

    T/U Go Pendles
T/D Others will average close to him so bank the money for later.

Trade Talk R17

Back into the thick of league competition this week. Hawks have the bye, Ablett questionable, plenty of players not pulling their weight… Who are you thinking of trading out and in?

  1. Ratten out and I am a swans man. Worst coach I have witnessed. Bower in the forward line and Henderson on Barry?? Wow. As I am the supercoach of my team, Jack R is on the block with question mark also on Rawlings

  2. This weekend is gonna hurt. Have a few hawks players, Suckling, Hodge, Franklin and Smith. And with GAJ out as well, thats a lot of holes i have to fill! Will keep GAJ if its only a few weeks. But not sure what ill do if he’s out more than 4….

JROO has to go but not sure if it will be this week.

  3. Fair job on J Roo? That’s the most goals he has kick in about 12 rounds surely? He pretty much kicked tigers score while being out of form. I’m just shitty because I have tickets this week. Wanted a bigger build up. I also think hampson is better ruck option because he can mark in the fwd line. I just don’t get ratten at all. Bower in the fwd line is crazy.

  4. No matter how long ablett is out for, I’m not trading him. Even if it’s 4 weeks, I’d rather them be cautious and him be fully fit for our finals, than him try to get back too soon and re injure himself.

Mind you if it’s anymore than 6 he’s gone!
Looks like only a few, but we will have to wait and see!

Oh and no trades for me this week.

  5. I’m very happy to welcome back Joel Selwood back into my team this week (from off the bench). As they say in racing parlons he’ll be “champing at the bit” to rip out a huge score. I’m strongly considering making him captain this week. The hairs on the back of my neck are starting to stand up already!

  6. Who to bring into midfield?

    Current mid
GAJ, Swan, Pend, S Thompson,Cotchin, Heppell, Krak (Mzungu, Smith, hibberd)

Think of trading Krak for Priddis or Hodge

    Thumbs up Priddis
    Thumbs down Hodge

    Or welcome any other comments.

    Thanks

  7. ALERT!

    Gary Ablett tweet today.

“Scans are good. Just showed some swelling … Nothing serious!”

Next tweet says he will play “Hopefully this week”.

  8. GAJ just tweeted that he got the scans on his knee done and it only showed a bit of swelling with no structural damage. Said he should be right to play this week. Now, that’s what I’m talking about!!!

  9. OUT Rawlings and Cross
    IN Shaw and Bartel

Costs nothing, I have 11 trades left at the moment.

    Thumbs up YES
    Thumbs down NO!

  10. Might regret it later but I’ve just traded Ablett for Swan,
Even if Ablett is cleared, who is to say he will keep to his form?

I’d rather get a solid score from here on out

  11. Just looking at players for next year..
    Ablett, Fyfe, Mzungu, Swan, Martin..
Any others I should keep in my sights?

  12. Jiminy Jillickers! Bartel is at a never-to-be-seen-again price: $348k!! and Steven Jack at $366k looks to be good value as well as the Sainters pick up steam – and is Mid/Fwd DPP.

If I only had more trades…

  13. No trades for me this week. Happy with my recruits from last week (Leon and Jolly) and it is time to sit tight on trading and watch the boys perform in the run home.

  14. Fellow Supercoaches, Keep up the good work! Don’t give up hope yet as there are still plenty of games to fine tune your teams before Finals!

As a fellow supercoacher, would love to know everyones thoughts…
I play my best mate in Round 18 with $50 prize money up for grabs.

    I do however have a few issues…

    Team:
B: Lids, Fisher, Gibbs, God, Enright, Harbrow, Stanley (Duigan, Puopolo, Jacobs)
C: Murphy, Priddis, Ablett, Swan, Selwood, Heppell (Krak, Hibberd, Mzungu)
    R: Cox, Smith (Sandi, JTip)
F: Pav, Goodes, Johnson, Sylvia, Jroo, Hurley, Rioli (Darling, Knights, Lynch (GC)

The plan is to bring in Moran for Sandi, take the cash and hope to dear god that Smith & Cox can ruck the rest of the season with no injuries?
Then I will have $500,000 to bring in O’Keefe for Knights, Fyfe for Rioli (if still injured), and the big one, Hodge for Hibberd.

Hoping this will give me a good enough team to contest against him. I have 7 trades left, from which I will have 4 remaining for finals.

Just wanted to know what peoples thoughts were and if you think I am heading down the right path? A fresh look on the team would be much appreciated.

THUMBS UP: Trade Sandi > Moran, Knights > O’Keefe, Rioli > Fyfe & Hibberd > Hodge over next two weeks.
THUMBS DOWN: There are better options dude!

  17. I have a few ‘problem players’ that I need to get rid of soonish, such as Adcock, JRoo and don’t ask me why but I still have Mundy, Just haven’t gotten around to getting rid of him yet.

  20. I know Blease got bugger all in his first game but he did come on late as the sub, so with 8 trades left I’m thinking:

    Isaac Smith > Blease
D Swallow > Nick Dal Santo

Will still have Mzungu and Jacobs as bench cover in the middle.

  22. No more tradin for me till finals have enough to cover any 1-2 week injuries.

    Team ( at it’s best)

B- H.Shaw, Goddard, Deledio, Enright, Gibbs, Duffield, Gilbert
    (Adcock, Otten, Howard)

C- Swan, Ablett, Pendlebury, Hodge, Boyd, ROK
    (Cotchin, Jacobs, Callinan)

    R- Jolly, Cox
    (Moran, J.Tippett)

F- Franklin, Pavlich, Goodes, Chapman, Sylvia, Petrie, N.Riewoldt
    (Mzungu, Dahlhaus, Richardson)

  23. I really need to improve my back line.

Deledio, Newman, Shaw, +cock, Heppel, Duigan, Lower
    (Otten, Puopolo, Toy)

I was thinking +cock>Fisher but i don’t have the cash.

Can anyone think of a good player around the $350,000-$400,000 mark.

Also who would you put on the field this week out of Otten and Lower.

    Thumbs UP Lower
    Thumbs DOWN Otten

  24. Would love some feedback

    Team this week:

    DEF: Deledio,Fisher,Goddard,Shaw,Johncock,Broughton,Hibberd
    (Birchall,Puopolo,Toy)

    MID: Pendlebury,Murphy,Boyd,Swan,Boak,Swallow(GC)
    (Ablett,Buckley,Callinan)

    RCK: Cox,Lobbe
    (Bailey,McCulloch)

    FWD: Pavlich,Fyfe,Goodes,Cloke,Riewoldt,Lynch,Mzungu
    (Franklin,McKernan,Richardson)

    6 trades left $186,000

    This week:
Set myself up with enough cash for the rest of the season. Then upgrade

Simon Buckley ——– > Rookie (will check out BS rookie review)
    Tom Lynch (GC) ———–> ROK

Next week: Upgrade and leave 3 trades (which i don’t think is enough?) for injuries

    Travis Boak ———> Sam Mitchell

Thumbs Up: Good plan 3 trades is enough for injuries
Thumbs Down: Bad plan not enough trades left

  25. On another note, I reckon this week could be one of the closest captains polls of the year. Factor in GAJ’s injury, Pendles and Swanny playing a fired up Blues, Boyd and Priddis have been ok, most have jumped off Selwood (against Brissy this week) and Hodgey has a bye. Who’s your early pick?

    0

    0
  26. Since this year has been so stressful with the byes and all and i have just had a terrible week i have started to think about next year. I will write all my thoughts out to help others and myself: I will sort this out in sections.

    Discounted Premiums for 2012:

Goddard-Will probably be discounted due to a offish season

Jack- Will be discounted due to an injury bombed 2011 and is only going to improve

Nick and Jack Reiwoldt- Nick has had a horror season so far and Jack has just a very long cold patch.

Hayes- Hardly played this year and might be cheaper than he normally is

Montagna- Up and Down season so far so will hopefully be back to his excellent best next year.

Malceski- Injury savaged 2011 and hasnt been in great form so will defiantly be discounted next year.

Adcock- Anyone going to dare to go near him again? I know i wont be

Brown- We all know when he is at his best he is a scoring machine, but will he get back to his magnificent best?

Mundy- Great start to year but got injured and will be discounted next
    year

Brian Lake- Horror season could he get back to his best?

Barlow- THE SC GOD! Next year he should hit his straps like 2010!

Jobe Watson- Started the season on fire but i do not think he will finish of the season in that style.

Sandi- Dont need to explain do I? 🙁

    Connors, Gilbert and Grimes

The young guns who will improve in 2012:

Pendlebury- Gun who will only improve in this great Collingwood side.

Martin- Great second year and should only improve. But he might have peaked early? I am not sure.

Fyfe- One word GUN! Needless to say more!

Murphy- Great 2011 and might avoid hard tag that will go to Judd

Gibbs- hopefully next year is the year which he wont tag and start playing a permanent Midfield role.

Others would be Selwood, Griffen, Rioli, Hodge, thomas, Wells, Rockliff and Cotchin

The previous guns who might have their numbers decline in 2012:
    Pavlich
    Boomer
    Chapman
    Corey
    O’keefe
    Goodes
    Didak
    Bolton

    AND NOW THE MUST HAVES!
    Ablett
    Swan
    Goddard
    Selwood

and the players on the ‘never touch again list’
    ADCOCK, GRIMES AND HIGGINS
Im sure lots will still pick em next year!

I have probably missed some so feel free to add to the list. I hope you guys are not thinking about next year yet and i hope some of you are still a chance for the overall this year! Good luck and i hope this was a good read and gave you some insight to who to pick next year. I will personally go the durable guns and rookie strategy next year because im sick of my players getting injured!

    Cheers 🙂

  27. Darling—–> Robbie Gray
    Milburn—–> Shaw/Broughton

    THUMBS UP: Good trades
    THUMBS DOWN: Could do better:P

  28. Serioulsy how can u already be thinking about supercoach next year? And what does everyone think of Robbie Gray then?

    0

    0
  29. okay well seeing as no one liked my trade options:P……… I have a heap of trades remaining and I really need to get rid of Darling and Milburn( bought him as a premium:P). This is my forward line:
Fyfe, Goodes, Petrie, Nroo, Rioli, Darling, Mzungu, Richardson, McKernan and Skinner
I know everyone would be saying get ROK but everyone in my league has him so I was thinking maybe someone else…….
    My defense is:
    Deledio

    0

    0
  30. Sorry bout that my defence is:
Deledio, Suckling, Adcock, Heppell, Lower, Pederson, Jacobs, Milburn, Golby and McGovern. As you can see a very weak defence which is full of medium priced rookies who must be upgraded! So I’m starting with Milnurn but I want to stay away from Fisher and Goddard…..so who else?

    0

    0
  31. Next year I am avoiding key position forwards. They are too unpredictable, don’t pick up enough of the ball to cover them on a day when they don’t take bags of marks or kick bags of goals.
I actually said that to myself last year also. How short my memory was.

    0

    0
  32. I am reluctant to spend one of my 5 remaining trades on JRoo.

If he is injured, I guess i’ll trade him, but if not, then surely getting rid of him is selling low and he can only have upside? It’s not like he’s a flash in the pan, Coleman medal is nothing to sneeze at.

Having said that, I do have Rioli on the bench as well as a few underperformers.

And maybe like his cousin his form is not only of his making but also a result of the press having changed the flow of the ball into the forward line.

Bringing in Shaw this week, not sure who i should trade between Stanley, Lower or Hibberd?

    Thumbs Up – Stanley
    Thumbs Down – Lower
    Or comment for Hibberd

  34. Motts, looking back at your post a few weeks ago (I think it was you) asking about the differences between “league win” and “overall score” strategies, this week has been a classic illustration.

My bench included Rioli (who I didn’t trade out in part because of the non-league round) and Pav, Jamar, Mzungu, Thompson, Sylvia, Broughton and Lower (all of whom were selected for my team with their non-league byes in mind).

Didn’t have any 0’s but only scored 1890.

Ranking dropped from 6652 to 9150. Same thing happened in round 6 except that time I dropped 5000 places.

    But I didn’t lose a game!

  35. Has anyone info or thought on whether Leigh Montagna is fully over his knee problem which he picked up against the pies in Rnd 12? At 380K and likely to average 100 from here on in (if fully fit) then i’m thinking he would be a great pick up as an underpriced prem who should come good + play all SC finals games. Trade in for maybe A.Krak?

    0

    0
  36. Who should I trade out for Fisher

    Thumbs UP: Duigan
    Thumbs Down: Lower
    Comment for Puopolo

I have enough cash to trade out any of them

    0

    0
  37. Would appreciate some feedback

    Team this week:

Deledio, Newman, Shaw, +cock, Heppel, Duigan, Lower
    (Otten, Puopolo, Thompson)

Ablett?, Swan, Pendles, Priddis, Bartel, D Swallow
    (Atley, Smith, Irons)

    Cox, Smith
    (Lobbe, Currie)

Pav, Fyfe, Goodes, Yarran, Higgins, Darling, Tapscott?
    (Richardson, Franklin, Skinner)

I have 5 trades left and $6,700 in the bank.

Thinking of Otten>Talia which would leave me with $255,000
    Then Duigan>Fisher

At the end i would have about $75,000 and 3 trades.

    What do you guys think??

    0

    0
  38. Ok, right, is it time for all those that have Adcock to trade him out?

Thumbs up = Yes, he is a potato of epic-sized proportions.
Thumb Down = No, he’s been carrying an injury and might come good.

    0

    0
  39. Hmmm but I thought that Broughton would be a good pick seeing as he is coming good again and he is a unique pick…… And he has a BE of 28 meaning his price will go up a lot…

    0

    0
  40. My team at best:

    Defenders –
    S.Fisher, B.Gibbs, B.Goddard, H.Shaw, S.Hurn, G.Broughton, M.Hurley (C.PEDERSON, P.Puopolo, A.Johnson)

    Midfielders –
    S.Pendlebury, M.Boyd, M.Priddis, G.Ablett, S.Thompson, D.Swan (A.DIDAK, D.Harris, B.Jacobs)

    Rucks –
    D.Cox, Z.Smith (J.Tippett, M.Curnow)

    Forwards –
    M.Pavlich, R.O’keefe, N.Fyfe, L.Franklin, C.Sylvia, D.Petrie, C.Rioli (T.MZUNGU, T.Lynch, C.Richardson)

    4 Trades, $188,700

    This is my plan:

Round 18 – T.Lynch —> D.Talia (to swap with Hurley and A.Johnson in backline) – leaves me with about $300,000

Round 21 – P.Puopolo —> B.Deledio (completes backline with Hurley on bench) – leaves me with about $210,000
    – T.Mzungu —> A.Goodes (will be my bench player to cover for Petrie in bye) – leaves me with about $80,000

Round 22, 23 or 24 use $80,000 whenever and wherever I want. Might upgrade Zac Smith, but I will see.

Leaves me with a team of:

    Defenders –
    S.Fisher, B.Gibbs, B.Goddard, H.Shaw, S.Hurn, G.Broughton, B.Deledio(M.HURLEY, C.Pederson, A.Johnson)

    Midfielders –
    S.Pendlebury, M.Boyd, M.Priddis, G.Ablett, S.Thompson, D.Swan (A.DIDAK, D.Harris, B.Jacobs)

    Rucks –
    D.Cox, Z.Smith (J.Tippett, M.Curnow)

  45. Thinking of a Darling upgrade.

Current fwds (including a couple in the mids) are:
Pavlich, Franklin, O’Keefe, Petrie, N Riewoldt, Krakouer, Dangerfield, Prestia, Smith, Mzungu, Darling, Matera

Question is who should i target in my Darling upgrade?? Have $243,800 already in kitty so sky’s the limit.
Fyfe, Goodes, Watts, Davis all spring to mind. Thoughts??????

  47. Is there any value in getting a mid-range fwd at this stage of the season (Lecras, Higgins or Brown) or should i be aiming at nothing but the best in O’Keefe and Pavlich?

  50. My fwds This week are are pav, fyfe, goodes, Stevie j, Petrie, darling, lynch (buddy, Dawes and Richardson on bench). Should I single trade riewoldt in for Dawes, or double trade…. Lynch + Dawes for talia and ROK?
that would leave me with pav, fyfe, ROK, goodes, Stevie j, buddy & Petrie at full strength.

I guess the Q is ROK worth burning 2 trades for, or go with riewoldt in a single trade?

    Any other suggestions welcome!

  51. Did a double trade:
    Z Smith >> Jolly
    Darling >> Goodes

It’s a bit of a punt with Jolly but confident in his upside.

Thank you to Zac and Jack for your work this season. Appreciate it. Especially you Zac.
