  1. G’day fellas,

Absolutely love your work, and spend hours every week just going through the comments and replies…
This week i have, like everybody else probably, a problem. $155k in the bank.
Players i’m looking to trade out: b.goodes, n.cockatoo
Players im keen on: macdonald, bont, CEY

Def: higgins, lumumba, newnes, macintosh, b.goodes, henderson, Oxley, n.brown.
Mid: lewis, wines, macrae, priddis, swallow, rich, adam saad, heeney, vandenburg, p.cripps, cockatoo.
    Ruc: goldstein, nicnat, read
Fwd: gray, martin, b.goddard, bellchambers, salem, clark, hogan, lamb.

Do i trade goodes down to CEY via saad, and then cockatoo to the bont? Or look at tom macdonald harder?

Please be as harsh as you like!

  2. Redpath –> Bontemplli
    GAJ –> J Kennedy

Leaves me with 126,200 in the bank. Team below, am I missing something? I’ll also say be harsh. Other issues are, like most people, Goodes and Cripps. Not sure I should just hold them though, or at least wait for someone better to trade them for.

Simson, Murphy, Newnes, McIntosh, Saad, Oxley, (Brown, Goodes)

Abelt, Fyfe, Pendelbury, Selwood, Beams, Vandenburg, CEY, Heeney (Jong, Miller, Crips

    NicNat, Minson (read)

Walker, Martin, Swan, Hogan, Clark, Saad, (Lamb, Redpath)

    $221,800 in the bank.

  3. Priority: Goodes to Bontempelli (via Higgins DPP)
Need about 20K here, probably downgrade Cripps to a cheaper rookie….any recommendations? DPP setup means they can play anywhere, not just midfield.
I already have McIntosh, Oxley, Adam Saad, CEY, Heeney, vandenBerg, Smith, Salem, Hogan, Clark, McGrath and Lonie.

  4. Thinking of trading Beams for Fyfe, Pendlebury, or Sloane. Already have Ablett, Parker, Gray and Wines in midfield

  5. I love Supercoach, I don’t have GAJ. My week will be easier than most. He will bounce back, He needs to have confidence in that injured shoulder, I love watching AFL and and would much rather see a fully fit Ablett…

  6. Thinking of potential correctional trades this week, although the Brown one is purely (d8) back up before the bubble goes $$$$$

Either Cripps > Van Berlo…..only the 1 trade & keep $90k in the bank

    Or

    Goodes > N Brown ( D8 ) & Cripps > D Rich & $11k in the bank

  7. Ablett leuey goodes maybe cripps and beams need to go. Bont must come in. Only two trades…15k in bank. Lol anyone?

  8. Ablett definatley out for me – he looked shizen on the weekend, didn’t go for any contested footy, no tackling – shadow of his former self

  9. Which defender to bring in?

I will pick Smith if named. But other options seem to be Alex Rance or Tom McDonald.

Don’t know much about them. Are either keepers? Should I target both? Neither has averaged over 90 before, so any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  10. No room for sentiment in this game. Ablett and Malceski have to go. If I trade GAJ for Bonts and Esky for McDonald, I’ll have coin to trade Cripps to Sloane next week. Will then have 7 midfield keepers with Gray and Dusty already forward.

  11. I would really like to bring in Rich. I see him as being a keeper for the season. I have 35k in the bank.

Option 1 – GAJ to Shiel, Slone or Kennedy & Cripps to Rich

Option 2 – Hibbert to Mcdonald & Cripps to Rich

Option 3 No Rich – GAJ to Shiel & Goodes to Smith

Trading GAJ goes against everything I believe in but seeing his Highlights he can break tackles or make them. GCS look terrible atm as well. I know I can buy him back closer to 600k later down the track if need be.

What are peoples thoughts on Shiel? Flash in the pan or legit? I havent seen any GWS games to decide.

  12. Option 1 or 3. I pulled the trigger on Cripps to Rich last week – good move so far. Wait a week on the Goodes to Smith for me.
Interested in Shiel myself & will research more this week. JPK is some player mind – ultra reliable, with proven premium record (only knock on Shiel, but he is only 22) & with Hanners, Jack et al to take the tag he’s going to go nuts a few times. Sloan is great, but that compression bandage on his leg & being in doubt for pies game is a worry even though he played well. Saying, that Sloan due to sign new contract within a month so will not have outside media / street pressure of Danger – could be good POD & still has easy run.

  13. Gaz has to go. He looks like he is a long way off having any confidence in his shoulder and will bleed cash. I think it will be worth the trades/points to trade him out now and back later if he comes good. Well done to those who started without him, you are already winning. Had the bont’s in pre season but swapped him to TBC for ruck cover which im regretting but could still pay off.
Without having a good look at it yet I’m thinking gaz to bont’s with the intention of moving him forward and possibly Cripps to NVB as a corrective rookie trade.
Goodes is another issue but he can wait. This will leave me with pots O cash for an upgrade. Need to have a good look at break evens this week

  14. To Bont or not to Bont..
Do we think he will be top 10 fwd this year?
I will either go Ablett to Sloane/Bont
Frees me up to get in B.Smith for Newnes
Just a matter of the extra 200k with bont which I could use to pick up a fallen premo mid once the cows are plump
    Thoughts?

  15. 2 trades for me this week.
GAJ – Sloane is a lock
Second trade I am looking at 2 options.
    Newton – Rich or
    Steven – Bont
I’m leaning more towards the Newton – Rich trade as I’m not sure if Bonts will keep up his consistency and I still think Steven will average 100.

  16. Have $380K in bank due mainly to a light Backline and tossing up, like many, what to do with Gaz.

Anderson to NVB – think Anderson could be dropped in favor of Billy Hartung coming in ($70K)

Gaz to Rich – leaves me with $680K.

Goodes & Clancee on the block for the coming weeks if don’t improve/avoid the vest. Targets will be Smith (last minute drop for pre season team), Rance. T.McD interesting but don’t think he’ll keep scoring at current rate.

  17. Gaz is the big one for me. this is what I could do
    1) Gaz to Fyfe
    2)Gaz to Bont
    3) Keep Gaz as POD and ride the waves

If you have other idea please list below

  18. The Gaz question will be turning me inside out all week. If I do trade out, will probably be:

    Ablett – Bont
    BGoodes – BSmith

Bont will eventually be moved to FWD so bringing in two keepers while keeping an eye on Gaz’s form and price.

  19. Happy with a few of my decisions so far, started with bontempelli instead of swan, which I’m pretty pleased about, also didn’t go in Gaz which is another win.

Slightly concerned about d beams, anything to worry about?

  20. Vanilla trades for me this week.
    Ablett –> Sloane
    Goodes –> Doc
After stuffing up this week (forgot that trades were not reversible after the first game) I’m hoping these will be the last ones before upgrading.

  21. Going to make a rookie to rookie trade this week, just to make sure most of my rookies are making some cash. Krakouer –> Lonie.

Also quite unsure about GAJ like most out there!

  22. I have 263k in the bank
    Thinking:
    Cripps -> Rich
    Tarrant -> Hogan

Yes/no? I just want to make sure i’m not missing out on the massive price leaps.

  23. I don’t have the Gaz conundrum. I went against the great man at the start of the season. I have a Beams conundrum though, I didn’t see the game but I gotta assume he’s taken Rockliffs tag. I’m also questioning a few of my defenders. I’ve got:
Mids: Fyfe, pend, neale, beams, Griffen, CEY, heeny on field. (Vanders, miller, smith)
Def: shaw, lumumba, newnes, hibberd, Macintosh, saad down back.

Is it worth dumping beams and one of my weaker defenders to bring in Bonts, Rance or someone I can rely on for 100+ Scores? Or stick fat with my current crop?

  24. Out Ablett and T.Lamb.
    In Sloane and Bont.

Only concern I have is having Danger and Sloane.
Wondering what peoples thoughts are on that?

  25. Please help, unsure what to do with this team atm?

DEF: Smith, Shaw, Saad, Lumumba, Newnes, Oxley (McIntosh, Hamling)

MIDS: Gaz, Fyfe, Pendles, Beams, Griffen, Yolmen, VBerg, Heeney (Anderson, Miller, Cripps)

    RUCKS: Goldy, NicNat (Read)

FWDS: Gray, Martin, Swan, Salem, Hogan, Clark (Lamb, Lambert)

1 Trade left, 140k in the bank

  26. Only considering 1 trade this week…Cripps out – NVB in, more upside to NVB with a few weak fixtures with Melbourne and Doggies coming up for Adelaide and then the local derby…

Have Parker in my Mids as well, but thinking of holding him – two games 30+ disposals (concussion effected score on the weekend). Low scores so far in the first 2 rounds, so will drop in value – but could go big against GWS this week – my instincts say hold!?!

  27. Thinking
    Gaz –> Bont / Shiel &
    Goodes –> rance

If I go Bont it will leave me $140k to upgrade KK to smith the next week, assuming smith doesn’t play this week and avoids a pay rise

  28. I’ve gone
    Ablett to Bont

Need to improve somewhere on defense
Geary, Newnes or KK to who? Rance? Smith?

  30. G’day all.

Feeling like I have nailed most of the best cash cows – except for maybe Van Berlo (and possibly Sinclair).

However, am currently running 4 rooks in my mids (CEY, VBerg, Sheed, Newton), so am thinking to strengthen my mids by either:

KEEP ABLETT, and go Ibbotson – N Brown (will sit at D8) and Sheed – Bont (who will go forward later).

OR TRADE ABLETT, and go Ablett – Wines, and Sheed to Bont

Both options leave around $30k in bank.

    Would appreciate any thoughts!! Thanks.

  31. Didn’t see any games on the WE but assuming you guys are all correct and Gaz can’t tackle and shake tackles, so I think JPK or Sloane to replace him. My other trade will be forced I believe as it looks like my DPP experiment with Simon White and Missy is only working at one end of the ground to injury. The obvious swap there is to Bonts.

Beware everyone wanting BONTS, as soon as I trade him, he’ll get nothing LOL!!

  32. PLEASE HELP ME ON THIS ONE, Im sure most of us are faced with the Gaz conundrum…
What would you do with this team? Trying to climb the overall ranks (currently 27,000ish)

Which of the 2 following do I focus on?
    1. trade out Gaz to a top Premo Mid/Fwd (I like Shiel, Sloane, JPK, Treloar, Jack, Buddy, Pavlich)
    2. bring in cashcows NVB or VDBerg for Cripps (I have all of the cheap Cashcows bar these 2, and I view Shiels, Docherty and McDonald as $50,000 cashcows next week anyways…..)
    3. upgrade Goodes to Savage/McDonald/Doc in the backline
    4. bring in Goldstein in the ruck

Capital Letters indicate players Im convinced I need to move……

Shaw, Lumumba, Newnes, Saad, Oxley, McIntosh (Brown, GOODES)
ABLETT (?), Fyfe, Wines, Dangerfield, Rich, Beams, Heaney, Ellis-Yolman (Miller, Smith, CRIPPS)
    Bellchambers LEUENBERGER (Cox)
Bont, Gray, TexW, Swan, Bennell, Hogan (MClarke, McGrath)

  33. Conundrum.

    Hey guys,

I require some advice. Need to make some changes in mid and fwd.

    As it stands:

MID – ablett, pendles, dangerfield, selwood, fyfe, van berlo, vandenberg, cripps (cey, miller, krakouer)

FWD – gray, swan, martin, salem , clark, hogan (lamb, lambert)

Now, I’ve decided ablett has to go. replacement will be 1 of sloane/kennedy/wines.

But what other change do i make. Bring in rich or bont for cripps? Or do i address the issue of some low scoring rookies.

I wish I’d made some rookie changes last week.

22k in the bank at the moment.

Let me know what you think ๐Ÿ™‚

  34. Clem Smoth out for Hogan via Lambert moving to mids might be my only change this week. I’ll have the top 8 averaging rookies under 200k.

  35. I’m pretty happy with my squad at the moment but think I need to drop Goodes. Problem is – with not much leftover cash – there isn’t a lot of upgrade options.

What are Grundy’s longterm prospects holding his spot at the maggies? I want to drop Maric for him (given the dodgy ruck scores) and then upgrade Goodes to Tommy Mcdonald.

It would also leave me with a spare $72k for later on in the piece.

    Thoughts?

  37. Lads, do i need another rookie ruck 3? I picked Cox from Collingwood, hasn`t played yet. Who would i choose? thanks

  38. B Goodes to go for Oxley

    But then:
    Van Berlo in for Cripps/Sheed
    Or
    Hogan in for Clark/Lonie/McGrath
    Or hold the second trade?

I have all the other top rookies. I’m not sure on the second trade as all of those players are currently looking to make a little cash – but I wanna get rich quick, so happy to use a trade here early.
(Annoyed as I had both these guys and the preseason talked me out of them)

  40. Hi folks

Total score 4418, and total rank 1,115 so going for overall at this early stage like the other wannabes. Bearing that in mind, and only having $37K in the bank, I want to bring in D Rich and one of Rance or McDonald (def). Rich has burnt me in previous years – will this finally be his year?

Thinking about doing something from left-field and holding Leuey (along side Goldstein) and trading out Ryder instead to inject some cash (and I don’t see his value going up at any stage). Leuey can’t do any worse than he did on the weekend right?

Also need to trade out Cripps (if bringing in McDonald) or Goodes (if bringing in Rance). At this stage leaning towards Rance instead of McDonald, given Melbourne are playing Adelaide next week and Richmond have relatively softer draws. Leaves $1K in the bank. The pros for bringing in McDonald however are that it frees up more cash and obviously his value will skyrocket comparative to Rance.

Thoughts would be appreciated – Rance v McDonald.

  42. Does anyone know how long Cripps will be out for with his back? It seems like lots of people are jumping off the Cripps Ship already. I picked him at the start of the season on the view that he would be Carlton’s competitive ball beast. I know he had a bad first week, but so did the likes of Selwood, Dusty etc. Are people trading because of injury or lack of confidence in his ability to generate some high scores during the season?

  43. Looking to lose Goodes.

Rory Laird, Josh Bruce? Or stump the extra up for Rance, knowing he won’t average more than maybe 100ppg and you are paying 95 of that anyway.

  44. I’d be very surprised if Bruce has a better game this season HH. Did a great job on the weekend, but I am thinking he could be fools gold. I think he will float in and out of games. One thing I always look for in SC is consistency and I don’t think Bruce will have that.

then goodes to who? what’s the thoughts on Savage- two tons in a row looks like he’s pretty involved in St kilda set up, at $370k he seems like he could be a really good option. only 1.3 % of teams own him as well- thoughts?

  50. Hiya all, solid start for the Hired Goons with everything in place, but toying with this one:

Cockatoo out for Gregson, giving me enough cash to do Bellchambers for Bonts in the fwd line

Downside: 2 trades and no ruck back-up

  53. Having second thoughts about trading beams out. What does everyone think about:
    Cripps out for NVB
Clem Smith out for Hogan (via moving lambert to mids).

With this move i have these cash cows…
    Backs: Ox, Mcintosh, Saad, Goodes
Mids: AVB, Heeney, CEY, Lambert, Miller (not expecting much from him)
Fwds: Salem, Clark, Hogan and Lonie

  55. The Bont Ultimatum!

Alright, here’s my take on the biggest Fantasy question confronting coaches this week – to Bont or not to Bont? First of all, let me ask a rhetorical question; which current player most reminds you of the Bont? No takers……………………oh, that’s right, it’s a one way forum. Let me help, anyone familiar with

    NATHAN FYFE

That’s right, the Knife himself. Let’s take a look at the obvious similarities:

    – both very tall midfielders (Bont is actually 5cm bigger than Nat) that can compete overhead with KPPs;
    – both love the contest and are not afraid of winning their own pill;
    – both have elite agility and timing around the stoppages demonstrating their natural ability to read the play;
    – both love to hit the scoreboard.

In summary, both have every element that supports the CD scoring system. Enough of the subjective assessment, let’s look at the facts. These are the stats for both players:

    First year:

    – both played 16 games after interrupted preseasons;
    – Fyfe averaged 72.5, Bont averaged 79.1;
    – Fyfe kicked 14 goals, Bont kicked 15;
    – Fyfe made 54 tackles, Bont made 55.

    And here is the crux!

In his second year, Nat the Knife had a SC average of 108 over 21 games, including a 49, 58 and 71.

For those that had the foresight to buy him from the start, well done. Unfortunately though at $422K he will no longer be a POD.

  56. Looking to lose two of M.Hallahan (who looked a good POD in pre season), B.Goodes, P.Cripps or T.Miller??
Who to kick out first and why?

Players I want to bring in: Van Berlo or Wallis, T McDonald and Vandenberg

    0

  57. What do people think of ahmad Saad (st Kilda) scored 75 in a saints win but how many games will the saints win this year? Not many my guess
I started with him and wondering if a corrective trade is need
Already got Hogan, Salem, Clark and McGrath

  58. Not sure what to do this week… the idea of bringing in Bonts or Rance is enticing but not sure how it could be done. the glaring omission on the team is the lack of Vandenberg to bring in some cash and Goodes is an issue before the price drop! Ideas???

    Bank: $7,100

Def: Shaw, Lumumba, Newnes, Hibberd, Saad, Oxley (McIntosh, Goodes)

Mids: Pendles, Fyfe, Sloane, JSelwood, Lewis, CEY, Heeney, Anderson (MIller, Cripps, Lambert)

    Ruck: Godly, NicNat (Cox)

Fwd; Gray, Franklin, Martin, Hogan, Salem, Clark (Lonie, Lamb)

  59. After some thought, I’ve decided to keep Cripps and go
    Jong -> Van Berlo
    Goodes -> Bontempelli

I don’t like cutting Jong, but NVB is shaping as a far better cash cow and I think Lin is going to be playing a tagging role in the next few games for the Dogs. Plus I need the cash to get the Bont in. Leaves me with 40K in the bank.
Mind you, if Cripps gets left out again this week, I’ll be re-evaluating (again).

  60. Probably doing the gaz to Bont’s trade as I see him a being a forward line keeper.
Second trade I’m not sure on.
    H Goddard to Oxley or
    Cripps/ miller to NVB.
Any opinions on who out of NVB and Oxley is a bigger priority this week?

  61. Thinking Ablett to Wallis and Cockatoo – Swan. Leaves some cash for future upgrades but doesn’t get me the Bont. Thinking Wallis can play the Libba role this year and average around 100. Would see him rise to near $500,000 to hopefully jump to a Selwood/Beams type. Everyone on the Bont so kind of want to get a POD in there. Just get the Bont?

  62. Time for 2 correctional trades, on top of that cashing in on -BE’s

    Cripps > Van Berlo
    Lambert > Hogan

Costs me $30k but both these correction trades are at huge – break evens, so I’ll invest $30k for a return of $150k any day ๐Ÿ™‚

  65. Should always stick with you gut feelings. Didn’t touch my team for 3 days prior to the start of the round and ended up making 2 decisions throughout the rolling lockouts.
    1. Went Pendles to Gazza
    2. Changed Anderson to Cockatoo when Cocky was named as Sub in Rd1 and Anderson was named on field.

Would probably be making other changes but further behind the 8 ball than I would have been. Nonetheless, this week:
    Gazza -> Bont/JPK/Sloane
    Cocky -> NVB

Bont leaves me with $489k in the bank, JPK/Sloane ~ $300k

  66. Ablett to Sloane is my first trade.

Thoughts on the below for trade two:
    1. Bellchambers to Bont
    2. Goodes to McDonald
    3. Beams to Rich
    4 Beams to Van Berlo

    Thanks

  67. Hi folks,

    Gaz out for Sloane
Miller out for Bonts to be moved forward later

1 superstar out but 2 absolute keepers and plenty of other rookies to make cash (have Ox, Saad (GC), Heeney, Vandenberg, Cripps, Ellis-Yolmen, Salem, Hogan, Clark and Lonie.

Have Goodes but think he can wait for now…

    Thoughts?

  68. SLOANE, JPK, SHIEL, TRELOAR, LEWIS, PENDLES, SELWOOD……
These are the guys under constant debate (particularly Sloane and JPK this week). Who is the best and safest pick?

  69. Want to go Goodes to Oxley. Then it comes down to chasing after Bont or getting NVB. Cripps or Wells would be the options to go. Doggies have a tough few weeks so thinking Bont won’t me given the same opportunities against the better teams. Wells may not make his BE but he scored 63 and was subbed at the half last week. Also have Nath Brown plodding along down back to consider.

Thinking Goodes > Oxley & Cripps > NVB.

    Thoughts?

  70. Almost feels like a sideways trade Roo. Goodes and Cripps could well come good in a couple of weeks. Mind you i have traded Goodes as well to Rance (most likely). Also not sold on Oxley after one game when the game was played in the Magpie defense for the most part.

  71. G.Ablett to J.Kennedy is a definite for me this week.
    My other options are:
    B.Goodes > B.Smith
    P.Cripps > N.van Berlo
    K.Lambert > N.van Berlo
Thoughts on these potential trades? I still also have T.Lamb in the FWD bench, but he could come in handy for a loophole.

  72. What’s people’s thoughts on dangerfield, does everyone think sloane is the better option, who looks like getting the tag every week?

  73. G’day community,

Thinking Ablett – Sloane as Trade 1, last year I went to Sloane from Ablett after he busted his shoulder against the Pies, and it proved to be great in the long run. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! Plus the Crows upcoming draw looks appealing.

Trade 2 will probably be Cripps out for NVB (only if Cripps doesn’t get up to play this Round). If Cripps does play, then most likely Lambert – NVB then.

    Thoughts community?

  74. Gaz to Shiel (I can afford JPK, Sloane, Pendles etc, but am drawn toward Shiel due to his price and solid start).

    Leuen to Goldstein

  75. Gaz to Danger
    Goodes to Docherty

only thing that worry’s me is where Walker plays once he returns hopefully up front
