Trade Talk R20, 2012

by Motts on August 6, 2012

The Finals are upon us. Your team should be looking pretty ship shape by now. Nonetheless it could always be better. Who’s on the block and who’s coming in?

My backline has been by biggest worry this year. It has my two lowest priced players in Newman and Drummond both sticking it up back there. I have 3 trades left and I think one of them has to stay.
What do you guys reckon?
T/U Newman
T/D Drummond
P.S Went Newman over Deledio at the start of the year to save 40k. Bad Idea!

I wouldn’t be trading in Giles after one good game. I would be looking at getting a premium ruckman instead. You could also leave roughy in the ruck and upgrade Blaire to a premium forward/midfielder

Hi, I am thinking of trading out cloke in finals have 3 trades left and in top 4 so would like everyone’s advice. T/U Cloke for Pavlich T/D Cloke for Beams, or would you keep Cloke and trade Sam Shaw for Beau Waters instead. Thanks for help.

Well-loved. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 8 Thumb down 4

Reply

Drafter August 6, 2012 at 10:14 am

I think Cloke for Beams is the number 1 move. Sam Shaw seemed to have an ordinary game yesterday and still scored well which is a good sign.

Beams is such a gun he’ll consistantly get 120+. Pav is pretty much a key forward now and he has been playing well but if Freo get touched up this week against Adelaide he might struggle. I would always take a mid over a key fwd.

Ok I can make one more upgrade for the year.
I have to decide whether that is in the backline or Rucks. I have the money to get anyone in either line.

Backline: Deledio, Goddard, Scotland, Birchall, H.Shaw, Lake, Yarran (Newman, Spurr)
Rucks: Roughead, Giles (Stephenson, Campbell)

T/U: Newman > Waters/Carrazo (meaning full premium back line apart from Lake/Yarran but playing Giles.
T/D: Stephenson > Maric/Jacobs/Cox (meaning full premium ruck but have to play Lake and Yarran in the first final)

I have a feeling the reverse trade button will be getting a hammering this week! Cheers for any advice

I’d grab Waters or Carrazzo. They should outscore Newman easily

Giles has been tonning it up recently. You’d hate to have him on the bench and outscore your R1 and R2

Players to Look at in the 2012 Supercoach Finals.

Defenders:

Brett Deledio – $ 552, 300. Avg: 117.5 Proj 3 rd Avg: 119.

The best Defender in Supercoach by a mile; if you don’t have him, you’ll be torn apart. Averages 12.9 PPG better than the second best, Heath Shaw.

Brendon Goddard $ 445, 800. Avg: 101.6 Proj 3 rd Avg: 81

Goddard has turned a corner in recent weeks, and for averaging over 100 points, is an absolute steal at this price .

Sam Fisher $ 387, 900. Avg: 83.2 Proj 3 rd Avg: 86.

Has a 3rd avg of 97.7. If he continues to be played in the position he is now, he might continue averaging around 100.

Midfielders.

Gary Ablett $674, 700 Avg: 137.9 Proj 3rd Avg: 138.

The Little Master is a lock in for any team worth its gumption. A Perma-Captain option, Gazza has an astonishing 3rd avg of 162. Pure class.

Joel Selwood $550, 300 Avg: 121.3 Proj 3rd Avg: 107.

Ultra consistent, Geelong’s hard nut captain is a major boost to any Supercoach side. Love him or hate him, get him.

Marc Murphy $521, 900 Avg: 110.2 Proj 3rd Avg: 104.

With Kentucky Frying Juddy’s return just around the corner, Marc my words, Murphy will score and score well.

Rucks

Ben McEvoy $ 521, 500. Avg: 103.8. Proj 3 rd Avg: 107.

St Kilda’s only ruckman available, McEvoy shoulders the burden as the Saints try to keep pace with the top 8.

Jon Giles. $ 397, 500, Avg: 91.3 Proj 3 rd Avg: 93.

A lot of us (myself included) jumped off this guy when he went 54-73-51-51. Since then he’s repaid the faith of those who kept him by gaining a second wind and scoring 112 and a massive 177. Giles scores well in GWS victories, and with winnable games against GC and MELB to come, has certainly done enough to warrant a stay in sides who have him.

Forwards:

Matthew Pavlich $ 636, 600 Avg: 112.2 Proj 3rd Avg: 132

Look! Up in the sky! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? NO, IT’S SUPER PAV!

Freo’s captain fantastic has breathed in the Purple Haze and dragged his team into finals contention and Supercoach who have him have enjoyed every minute of the journey. Pavlich, in his never ending quest for Anchors, dead birds of prey and the Coleman medal has gone 175, 113, 160, 108, 179 in his past. He plays Melbourne in the SC final.

Patrick Dangerfield. $564, 700 Avg: 112.2 Proj 3rd Avg: 115

Quick question? Who averages as much as Super Pav and is yet 70k cheaper. It’s Dangermouse! Adelaide’s in form midfielder, while not quite in the stratospheric heights of Anchor-Man, has a 3rd avg of 132.7. Has Fremantle, Brisbane, Melbourne and GOLD COAST in the Supercoach Finals.

Paul Chapman. $ 468, 800 Avg: 103.3 Proj 3rd Avg: 92

I don’t know much about this guy, but Chapman sounds close to Champion, so that’s good enough for me.

So there you have it, a small sample of possible options to jump on in the Supercoach Finals.

Great write-up.

Just be aware with Fisher though that his score was only so high because it was a close game in the last quarter (so lots of points up for grabs). He only had 31 SC (34 DT) after three quarters but in the last he managed 73 SC (only 37 DT)! If the game hadn’t been so close, those points would have only been worth around 40, leaving him with a far less impressive 70-odd in SC. I’m in the market for a D7-upgrade and unfortunately, I’m not convinced

If you have the trades & money to upgrade to a Waters, Carrazzo, Delidio, Scotland or Goddard then go for the trade. But no point in a sideways trade as he is just as likely to score 80+ as anyone of similar price.

Question: Are emergencies scores only counted, if someone of the field doesn’t play, or are they counted if their score is higher than the on field player?

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 1 Thumb down 5

Reply

Eagling August 6, 2012 at 1:23 pm

If a player on field doesn’t play, then your lowest emergency in that position is counted. For example,

If you fielded Player A, who then missed the game, then if you had an emergency on Player B (in the same position, then you would get Player B’s score. If you had two emergencies in the same position, and they both played, then you would get the lower of the two scores.

When trading out the superstars of each position due to injury, I think you either have to do it immediately (as I did with Buddy when he first went down) or wait them out (Pendles). Unfortunately, I think that you’ve missed the boat on trading him. Remember, the guy is averaging a lazy 118.5 for the season!

don’t think Redden’s gonna play another game this year so you could downgrade him to no name (a rookie who hasn’t played) to stay as bench cover. that would give you a total of about 280k to do some upgrades.

Personally i think Redden will actually get a game this week now that Whiskers is in charge. A new coach always makes a few changes & he is likely to see that Lobbe needs a bit of a hand / or rest.
However, Tom may be onto something in terms of using either Big O or Redden to get in Roughie + Pattison.

Not a bad team at all Stoney. Probably DEF needs another prem so a Lake to Water or Scotland single trade is a good call.

Broughton out first. Shame you don’t have 40K so you could have went a straight Broughton to M.Johnson who could then act as a Def + swingman with Smedts. Broughton to dare i say it Buorgoune?? could also be a decent option as the Hawks have a very easy run.
With the injuries at GC you have to think that Hall should play the final games.
Gibson great mids cover, but if his price still goes up & you can do a Gibson + Hall to a Fyfe or Chappy + couch or similar it would add to your flexibility + give you another prem.
Also consider turning Kreuzer or Redden into a prem Ruck such as Maric or DPP Roughie & Pattison in for Kreuz & Hall.

Worry about the bench cover when you are facing a 0, however i think you will scrape through with your bench players as Gibson, Ellis & Sam Shaw should all play.

If Stants is playing, Ill likely keep him and trade out Porps.

T/D – Porp –> Fyfe

COLLINGWOOD has suspended Brownlow medallist Dane Swan over a night on the town on Sunday.

It is believed the Magpies will ban Swan from their next two matches, against the Sydney Swans and North Melbourne.

Fish – going to cost those who don’t have trades. Motts will be smiling though!!

A Magpies player challenged Swan about his condition at training on Monday, and a meeting with coach Nathan Buckley and at least two other players followed.

Recently, the club’s players pledged to refrain from drinking alcohol until the end of the season.

Swan is understood to have denied drinking alcohol on Sunday night, admitting he went out but only consumed water before getting home at midnight.

RB, until i rechecked my cheat sheets last night i was hoping that you had Swan (only 2 from 5 of my opponents have him). I think you will beat me by 100+ in LoEC1 even if i decided to trade, therefore likely to preserve trades for next week or the week after if i do fluke a few wins. Just glad i have the double chance in 4 of 5 leagues.

Anyone else holding back on trades as they have double chance? Normally i still have 6 trades for finals, will be interesting to see if any selection curveballs come up on thursday!

Lots of differences between the teams but the way i see it where it will be won and loss is:

Your advantages
Big Cox and Nic Nat against a depleted Geelong ruck division
Super Pav
Dependlebury (with Swannie out his scoring is sure to go up)

My advantages
Beams
Buddy
Greater level of depth in my backline

Plus i’ve got Swallow and Ward who can go massive … or not.

Should be interesting!!

Roo Bloke, yep, should be an interesting weekend. You have the points in DEF with POD’s of me having M.Johnson & Newman & you having Waters & Scotland. Similarly, you are at least a prem. up in the forwards with my Cloke & Hale v your Buddy & Roughie (with Pav & Goodes hopefully matching your Danger & Beams).
As you say I just edge it in rucks & possibly mids (depending who you get in), but overall i still reckon you are 3 true blue chip prems up on me. Been riding my luck of late through winning due to good team flexibility & depth so need the SC Gods to continue shining on me!

Dane Swan! Silly me for taking the gamble on him at the start of the year. Knew he would let the team down at some point. Ok so here goes…

In the top 4 in all leagues
3 trades
Have Pfiefer as bench cover in the Mids
Have Cloke and Smedts as cover in the Fwds (if Franklin plays)

So option 1 is trade Swan for anyone I like
Option 2 is swap a DPP fwd with Pfiefer and bench Swan playing Cloke or Smedts Fwd

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 3 Thumb down 6

Hale what to do boys, surprised me of late as per Giles.
Port and GCS next two games, was planning an upgrade, however think a Goldstein, Hale combination over the next two will not be bad, if I get through make the trade against Sydney to perhaps Nic Nat, or even Jacobs if he is playing round 22.

T/U Keep Hale next two then trade.

Shaw is worthy of a spot on the field above both Duffield and Newman considering his run home and his record for scoring well. Going to be a really good player for the crows hopefully GWS or GC don’t take him like they have taken there entire backline over last two years.

Keep Shaw as D7 the boy is averaging ok, would not waste the trade. Get rid of Newman doing nothing. Porps ok, but do you have enough cash to get Rioli, bit hesitant last week recommending, Geelong, but the boy is flying. Goodes against Collingwood hmmm not a safe bet. Rioli against Port lot better option. Rioli then has Gold Coast, pray Clarko does not rest him, should not had a few stints already.

Jimbo, i was about to go TU, however have not voted as i ended off going to the Crows game last weekend & Thompson looked flat as a tack for me. If i was the Crows coach i would certainly rest him in an easy game to freshen him up as he looks like he needs it to me. I would imagine that he will play v Freo but surely rested one of final 3 once Crows final position set. PS, i have him & rate the lad.
You got Watson, Selwood, GAJ and Pendles?

Ive got Watson, Selwood and GAJ was thinking about Pendles wanted him all year. I may end up with him, or else I may cover Swan for next two weeks by going Porps —> Fyfe allowing me to have Swan for last two games which he may go huge to pay back the club and could be massive POD. Im also top 4 in all leagues so if something goes wrong this week Swan will definately go.

Cheers for the reply Andy B your comments are always informative.

Jimbo and others. I know Fyfe was the Golden Boy last year but don’t you guys think it is a bit risky bringing him in now, price attractive, but the likes of Sidebum, Beams are better then you have all the other prem mids especially finals if you want a premium in, if it is coverage 440,000 is a bit to spend., don’t you have Zorko or Gibson for that task. With the GCS injuries there looks like a lot of our boys will be back in Kyal, Hall playing GWS this week you think they would be ok

Cheers Jimbo. Hawker talks some sense below. As i already have Thompson i did not realise how cheap he was at $511K – certainly good value considering his easy run. I still worry about him being rested though.
Pendles is certainly a great option for the finals. The bloke is all class & after GAJ is probably second on the team sheet which is why many of us held onto him for 5 or 6 weeks when injured.
Hawker could be onto something with DPP, if you could up + down grade mid pricers & get in a Prem DPP like Danger or Beams they will fill in for Swan & then add to your forwards when Swan goes 150+ in the final 2 SC games. Good luck with the decision!

Cheers guys Ill keep thinking about the trades. Dont really want to waste two trades to get 1 premo when I could use 1 to get a good POD who is a proven Premo and he has nice finals run. Already got Beams, Sidey and Danger. Gibson for cover but Fyfe is better. Porps has injury cloud over his head if I feel confident he’ll play the rest of the year then I won’t trade this week and hope to get the week off.

My other option is Ellis —> Browne then use that cash to go Porps —> Pav to cover Swan and obviously have the best form forward right now.

Fyfe is a little risky but to be honest if he gets me the win this week thats all I need from him. He is a proven 100+ player and with each week he gains fitness and his output will increase.

Won last week but got knocked out of 4th on percentage 0.07 mind you. Now in a do or die situation, you boys have been a great help, would like the opinion on what I face this week, Opponent named Second. The Differences per line. Providing no trades of course.
B: Carrots V Scotland, Goddard v Johnson, Birchall v J Gibson, Waters v Lake, S Shaw v Ellis
M: Watson v Selwood, A Swallow v J Kennedy, Mitchell v Goddard.
R: Goldie v Cox, Hale v Jacobs
F: Rioli v Sidebum, Steve J v Zorko, Martin v H Bennell, Goodes v D Smith, N Roo v A Saad.

T/U Should be safe and win
T/D Should be worried and hope for some injuries.

Hawker, if your players are named first then i think you will beat him by between 50 and 150 points. You probably have 3 prem’s more than him. Only line i prefer his players to yours is the Ruck, however i think you would be unlucky to get beat. Good luck & make sure you have your emergencies in the right spots as SC finals normally end off being eventful!

With Franklin not returning and Swan out for 2 weeks, I have some hard choices to make as I prepare for my elimination finals.

I’ve got this trade idea. (2 trades left)

Broughton – Beau Waters
Swan – Fyfe.

This will give me a team of

DEF: Goddard, Deledio, Scotland, Carrazzo, M Johnson, Waters, S Shaw (Ellis, Smedts)
MID: Ablett, Pendlebury, Murphy, Priddis, Dal Santo, Shuey (Crozier, Couch)
RUC: Cox, Goldstein (Jenkins, Campbell)
FWD: Fyfe, Zorko, Dangerfield, Martin, Hale, Goodes, Harvey (Franklin, Tomlinson)

This means that if Franklin returns next week, I can slot him in and swap out any of my forwards or midfielders for a FWD/MID DPP to sub or play on either line.

Thumbs up if it’s a good idea.
Thumbs down if it isn’t.
